TL Services

TL Services just completed an install of two furnaces and a duct system at my house. They were amazing, from start to finish. Yes, scheduling was a headache because of American Home Shield (horrible), which delayed things and put up hurdles for us. But The folks at TL Services are not to blame. They did everything possible to make the process go smoothly.
First, they were very responsive on the phone. The owner himself came out to give us an estimate. I shopped around, received 3 other estimates, and these guys gave me the most competitive bid.
Second, the installation went smoothly. They sent a crew that included an engineer to do our install! This gave me a lot of confidence– having a highly trained professional do this job.
Third, they were quick, and they were neat! My house was left sparkling clean. I’m very, very happy with this company and wish they didn’t get such a bad rep from other reviewers– who really have an issue with AHS, not the contractor.

I was worried after reading these reviews because I too have AHS who sent this repairman to fix our broken a/​c.
But my experience was good!
First, he arrived on time and he even called me to let me know he was on his way, which I liked. I didn’t catch his name, but he was polite (wiped his feet on the mat before coming inside). Looked at the thermostat on the wall and went outside. I left him to do his thing and about 6 minutes later I felt cold air flowing through the vents! He told me he replaced a part which he wrote on the invoice, I signed it, paid my co pay, we chit chatted briefly and he left. Great service, I am happy!

Don’t even consider reading more reviews. Just RUN. Same as every other 1 star review. Chosen by American Home Shield (also horrible, please don’t use). We had a terrible experience — over 1 week from original phone call to an available appointment. Technician led us to believe that the unit would be covered by AHS and while I know they aren’t responsible for AHS denying the repair, they gave us a tremendous lack of details or options or information that I’m stilling giving them 1 star.
I know you have no choice who AHS sends out, but please, DON’T buy American Home Shield.

TL services responded to our home when we asked for a 2^nd opinion from AHS, our home warranty company. The tech was supposed to inspect my AC ducts and report back to AHS as to the condition of my AC ducts. When the technician arrived, he entered my attic and took pictures of my ducts. He stated that my ducts were old, and falling apart due to age of the ducts. I advised him that the master bedroom ducts were non functional. He took photos of the ducts that did not even lead to my master bedroom. I asked for a report and the technician stated that he was not required to provide one. I asked him what he was going to report back to AHS and he stated that he was going to report that the ducts were falling apart due to age. When AHS called me to deny my claim, they said that the technician from TL services stated that my ducts that lead to my master bedroom was crushed and was denying my claim. They advised me that he verbally stated that they were crushed and the other ducts were functioning and in good working order. Wow!, I am appalled that he could even say that. The ducts were all rusted, falling apart, and leaking all over in the attic. I had my ducts inspected by San Diego Gas and Electric and was pressure /​leak tested. It was reported that my ducts were leaking over 40%. Really? Functioning and good working order? Wow. TL services do not know what they are doing. I will post pictures of what my ducts look like when Carini Air Conditioning pulled my old ducts out to replace them. TL services and AHS do everything they can to deny repairs to their customers even though the repairs are eligible for repairs under the contracts.

If you read my posts below, things didn’t start out great with TL Services, hence the 4 stars. After TJ called on the 23^rd, things have gone great. He processed the paperwork with my home warranty company, got the parts ordered and on 10/​16, Victor came out to install the new unit. He did a great job and, although it cooled off outside, I ran my AC and enjoyed it on Saturday. One thing that really impressed me was that when I went down to check in on Victor a couple times, there was a huge mess with parts and trash all over my carport. When he was done, I think my carport was cleaner than when it started. I also noticed he even sorted the recycling from the trash. Had it not been for the poor service from the answering service, I would give them 5 stars and i would certainly recommend them.

TJ from TL Services today called me in regards to my original post below. He apologized for the poor customer service I received on Sunday and advised it was an answering service. He also explained he did turn my unit off because he is required to since it is leaking freon, and apologized for not telling me he did so. He is sending me a detailed estimate to review for the replacement and offered to walk me through it, should I wish to have them replace the unit. I increased the review from one to three stars for his efforts in making things right and will update with a final rating after this is resolved.

NEVER, EVER, EVER use TL Services Inc!!! My AC wasn’t cooling quick enough, but functioned, so I put a work order in. The tech came out on a Friday and said it needed to be replaced and my home warranty company would be in touch Monday about the replacement. Since it’s blazing hot today (Sunday), I went to turn the unit on and now it won’t even turn on! I called them about it and they were immediately defensive, terribly rude and offered no assistance. Needless to say, they will not be getting my business on replacing the unit.

I had my doubts about my insurance ahs sending someone out after reading all the reviews on ahs. I was expecting the worst. Well, I was wrong. TJ was great and able to fix our ac within minutes. I asked for his card because I will use his services for future services. He was very nice and helpful. He answered all our questions since we had so many being new home owners.

First I would like to thank Anna for posting on 22 Sep asking me if I would like to have the technician come out on 19 Sep. I’ll jump in my Delorian so we can arrange that. Second, it is not very professional to use Unilocal for official correspondance to schedule appointments. You have your customers phone number… use it.
Finally TL Services cancelled my appointment. In American Home Shields notes it states that the customer was irate and they did not feel comfortable sending a technician out. Since there was no correspondace other than the phone calls 3 weeks ago to schedule appointments I am assuming Anna did not like my Unilocal review. *End Update*
I carry American Home Shield insurance on all my appliances to include my air contidioning unit. A couple of weeks ago I was getting a loud rattling noise when my A/​C fired up from inside the cielling. I called American Home Shield and the next day a representitive from TL Services called and we set up an apoointment for the end of the week. The guy showed up on time and took a look in the cieling from where the filter was located. He saw the cause of my problem was a motor situated further down and there was no access panel to reach it. He said he would go back to TL Services and get an access panel on order then call to reschedule installation.
After 3 days of not hearing back I called the company. No anwer so I left a message with my call back info.
The next day I called back and left 2 messages and on a 3^rd attempt got through and the lady said the technician would call me back.
The day after that I called and they looked at my info and said American Home Shield hasn’t authorized them to do maintenance on my A/​C unit beacuse there is no access panel. Well no kidding the technician said he was going to get one on order. I call American Home Shield and tell them I will pay for the installation of access panel myself. I call back and explain this to TL Services except it will be another week before the technician can come out.
Bottom line after 3 weeks maybe a technician will fix my A/​C.

BEWARE!!! I don’t know how to put in NEGATIVE STARS for TL Services so I’m giving them just ONE. I have AHS and called to have them check my furnace. Something came up so I called TL to cancel appt. and told them I would return call to reschedule. Tom (I think the owner) took the call and seemed confused but I told him I would call AHS about another issue and call him back to reschedule. Tom shows up anyway and is rude to me and my wife.
A month later I get a $ 75 bill from AHS for his «services.» I call to complain and AHS won’t do anything because TL says that they had an appointment and showed up. TL seems to have no record of my call. AHS doesn’t have my back because I need to call them to cancel appointments, no one ever told me that and common sense says I communicate with the company directly to reschedule. SUCH BS!!!

We had TL Services come out this morning to look at our Air Conditioner. It wasn’t cooling our place properly. No sooner than the technician arrived he became extremely rude and disrespectful to me! I started asking questions regarding the AC and all of his responses were hateful. I asked if I could see the filter he said this unit doesn’t have a filter. The filter is in our furnace area. I asked about the air flow pressure throughout the house he didn’t not answer that question. All he mentioned was the freon was low by 3 pounds. He also said that AHS would only pay $ 10 of the $ 65 per cubic foot of freon. Well that didn’t sit well with me cause the price would be $ 55×3=$ 165 plus $ 75 for the service call equals $ 240.00. I think not!!!
Because of the high cost we refused the treatment.
I don’t appreciate being ripped off especially by a company that doesn’t have any knowledge of their profession.

Twice in the last 2 years my AC has broken. Twice Total Heating & Air have failed me. Luckily, TL Services has come through both times. T.J. is a great technician and very knowledgable.

Zero stars. TL Services did me a favor but I owe you Unilocalers a review. After a long story with American Home Shield, I wind up with TL Services. AHS sends TL Services a dispatch and TL called me. I wasn’t ready for the appointment yet due to an issue with AHS; AHS issued a new dispatch, no charge to me, since I already paid the $ 75 to AHS and the problem I had was not diagnosed by a plumber who was sent out last week. I call TL Services back to ask for a Saturday apt, Mrs TL says «I don’t have that dispatch number, let me call AHS to confirm it and I’ll call you back.» Ok great, I wait. While this was supposedly going on, I forwarded her the dispatch email trying to help out (TL’s email is right on the dispatch). She didn’t call back. I call TL Services Monday morning to follow up on the non-​returned phone call and she says «American Home Shield cancelled your dispatch.» What she DID do, was call AHS on Saturday and (according to AHS) tells them «the customer wants the order cancelled since a different contractor has already come out to look at the problem.» Dirty trick but I can only assume they just didn’t want the work since they would be asking for their $ 75 from AHS not directly from me. Dirty game. I would have not added a negative Unilocal if the folks were straight with me, told me they didn’t want the work… and didn’t lie to AHS on my behalf. I’m a veteran with 30 years service completed and not much is worse than being lied to and falsely represented, but as a lesson learned I assume it is a trick of the trade. My view? It took me another 20 minutes on hold with AHS to get another contractor but TL Services helped me out by ensuring I don’t actually engage them in real business. I return the favor with this Unilocal review.

AHS sent this company to fix my gas forced air heater. I was worried because of all the bad reviews. T.J. got there within the appointed time, checked my heater and explained that there was a plate missing that allowed air into the furnace area and could have caused the pilot light to be blown out frequently. He didn’t have a plate but he did cover it with some aluminum tape. He then showed me how to properly light the pilot light. The Furnace works like it used to. T.J. was polite and helpful. He worked quickly and efficiently.
I am quite satisfied with the service he provided.

I had a good experience with this company. It appears to me that the other reviewers are mostly upset with their insurance companies, but not with TL Services itself. I have used TL Services on several occasions and this company never disappoints!

This company is underhanded, unscrupulous, and dishonest. TLS and TJ their technician are toxic, stay away from this company! Just like everyone else who complains, AHS sent these con artists out to fix my a/​c. From the first time the malignant TJ came out to check the a/​c he was rude and belligerent. To make a long story short, he tells the homeowner one thing, and then turns around and lies to AHS so they’ll deny the coverage. Apparently, AHS prefers to lose a client over this matter, and they are just as unscrupulous and dishonest as TL Services.

This company sent a service man who was 100% non professional. My Air Conditioning isnt working right. I have American Home Sheild and they sent this company to my home. I told him my system is old and not working right and really needs replacing. So for $ 75 I turned on my AC and he looked at my furnace. Then he walked outside to my condensing unit. Checked my gas level and told me that my unit was dirty. I llve on a hillside, so dirt runs downhill when it rains. There was about ½ inch of dirt on the bottom. He then wrote on his service tag that my unit was old and not effective and that my unit was in the dirt and not effective. After he left I turned off the power and took the hose to my outside unit. I cleaned it all up. I ran the AC and it still isnt working. We requested a return visit. He came back to my home turned on the AC and saw it wasnt working right. He NEVER even looked at my outside unit. Then he left my home, and did not give me a copy of the service order report or an invoice copy. Its over 92 degrees these weeks and I still dont have AC due to this incompetent jerk. I called my brother in law, a Union professional HVAC technition. He told me you need Discharge pressure readings, suction pressure readings, superheat readings, supply air temp reading and return air readings to properly diagnose problems with an air conditioning unit. This guy did not do any of that, and when I called him for the numbers he got defensive and would not give me the numbers and insisted I was trying to scam the system. He then insulted me further. Do not use this company. The service man they sent me is a guy just trying to get service money and do nothing but a dog and pony show. He didnt check my evaporative coil or clean it, didnt check any valves either. Do NOT use this company.

FRAUD, I have a home warranty through AHS. i called to have someone come out and service my AC unit as it was not working. This company came out to my house, and after arguing with him about what breaker it was, he finally agreed that i was correct. He then proceeded to tell me that i needed to add 6 pounds of freon and the cost would be $ 324.00. I asked him to hold, so i could call my warranty company and verify that i was responsible for these charges. He did not have the time for me to do this and he said he needed to leave. so that was that. I had another company come out and look at the AC unit, it turns out the only thing wrong was a $ 8.89 breaker. we changed the breaker and my AC has been perfect ever since.

AHS screws so many people by sending out these hacks. We had to get a new heater installed so AHS sent them out. Guy comes through and says that there are several parts that need to be replaced to make the new heater compatible with the original duct work. Cost me $ 645 out of pocket for the additional stuff. We did not get an itemized receipt with an estimate or after the work was done. Flash forward 14 months and we got a quote to have an A/​C system put in (by a VERY reputable, HIGHLY recommended, honest, family owned business, obviously I’m not talking about T L Services), only to find out that T L Services was supposed to put in a different heating register, one that was big enough to meet the airflow demand of our heater and should have made us aware that the heater was hooked up to an asbestos lined pipe, so our family was breathing in all the chemicals every time the heater came on for that 14 months! Turns out, the acid water mixture created by the condensation of the cold pipe heated up every time the heater kicks on can also damage the heater and void the warranty.
I called TJ about this danger and his initial response was, «I was only there to fix what was covered by the home warranty». After a while during our conversation he tells me that it was underhanded of the other company to bring the work that needed to be done to our attention. Really?! Underhanded to let a homeowner know they’re breathing in toxic air because you didn’t do your job because it wasn’t covered by the home warranty?! He did offer to come out and look at the pipe and give us a quote to have it removed — as if I’m stupid enough to trust him to do ANY work on my house! When I mentioned all the negative Unilocal reviews and that he should maybe reevaluate his business practices he said, «Anyone can write anything they want on Unilocal,it means nothing. We have an A+ BBB rating and that’s the only thing that matters». If you’re an avid Unilocaler like me, know that this guy basically said, none of you matter. As for those that have had bad experiences, file a complaint with the BBB, see if he changes his tune then!

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They were sent by AHS to service my HVAC system, which had a tear in the ducting. The technician came out and said that it would be covered, but unfortunately didn’t have the material and will need AHS to send them out again. I get a call from AHS saying that it’s not covered because TL services reported that the tear is not normal wear tear. Classic tell one thing to the home owner and tell another to the warranty company that other reviewers commented. This confirms that this is TL’s standard business practice.

We had a furnace in the attic that no longer activated through the thermostat. We have AHS and TL Services was sent. The furnace was in the attic so the tech had to go up there with a ladder he brought. Quickly determined that a main fuse had blown out. Replaced it and checked for other problems. Once the furnace was working the tech was courteous enough to test if the thermostat s in the upstairs and downstairs were working properly including the AC units which we leave off most of the time. A month later and everything is working fine.
TL did the job quickly and without any hassles.

The insurance company sent this company out to get a second opinion on our furnace. Apparently «TL» himself was the technician to show up. According to him, the heat exchanger was rusted and cracked, and the furnace needed to be replaced. SDG&E inspected the furnace a couple days later and said that everything was working perfectly right. Of course, if I were gonna replace the furnace, only one of these technicians stands a chance of making money…
