Sorrento Dental Care

I have been coming to Sorrento Dental Care for years now. I recommend Dr. Abassian to all of my friends and family who are looking for a new dentist. She is extremely kind and comforting and makes going to the dentist more relaxing than stressful. Her staff is also wonderful to work with as well. Just had to get an emergency root canal last week (no fun), but she and Caesar were awesome enough to stay late and make sure I was good to go and out of pain. Always a great experience — even when the procedure isn’t exactly fun. Thanks for being amazing Sorrento Dental Care!

I’m not the best person when it comes to enjoying the dentist. But my visit here with Shiva was the ultimate eye opener. She was so sweet and very smart. They actually did some checks that I have never heard of before. The staff was very nice to me and greeted me as I walked in. They play awesome music when you are in the chair so the instruments are not the only sound you hear. The facility is very clean and professional. The equipment is by far the coolest I’ve seen. They show you everything that you want to know about your teeth. Your gum lines, the health of them, and show you with a mirror what they are looking at and how to better your oral health. Simply the most amazing visit I’ve experienced. I’ll be going back again.

Dr. Abassian AND her team were amazing, I had to get a lot of work done and have had many bad past experiences many times with other dentits in the past where I gave up on them all together. Not only to you get the best personal attention but you get the best work by an incredible Doctor that cares about all the work that you would need. Most important you feel comfortable. Dr. Abassian and her staff are amazing! I was able to get a cleaning, xray, and exam as a new patient for a great price ($ 85!!) and would normally expect the auto mechanic routine where they try to upsell you on a bunch of service I didn’t really need. NOPE, didn’t happen, ended up paying just the $ 85 and took all 3 kids there!
I’m referring everyone I know to this office. great experience!!!

Dr Abbasian has been my dentist for 15 years. Her approach is professional and friendly, and she clearly has very good dentistry skills along with extensive experience. An example of her dentistry: I have one molar which probably would have been better fixed by a crown but I chose the filling option at about 20% cost. Dr Abbasian had told me the risks of a filling being dislodged by nuts etc but hers was not a «hard sell»; rather I believe an honest appraisal of cost-​effectiveness of each approach (rather than «pushy» as others have reported). The filling is still in place several years and hundreds of almonds later. Dr Abbasian’s hygienist staff have always been really efficient and effective at their removing tartar and stains with a sonicating probe. And it is really helpful to be able to review gum status surrounding each tooth every six months or so. The $ 89 current cost is an excellent price. So I do not hesitate in recommending Dr Abbasian to my friends. She is the best of the half a dozen dentists that I have experienced.

My experience here has significantly declined. I love the dentist but unfortunately her staff is not good. I have asked for all procedures to be pre approved due to a situation that occurred in 2013 with my husband. Her staff told my husband verbally that the procedure is necessary and the insurance would cover it. To our «surprise» the insurance said my husband did not have the disease that the dentist indicated and they would not cover it. We got a bill for around $ 325. This also happen to a couple of my friends who now do not go here anymore. I refused to listen and decided to trust the dentist. She said that the insurance companies are difficult and it is disease, however not severe enough for the insurance company to cover. I said its not fair to have a surprise bill of $ 325, that patients should be well aware and informed of any out of pocket charges and etc prior to the procedures and care. It should be the patients decision if they want to spend money on certain procedures, nobody else’s opinion or the decision should be made for them. I should get to decide. The dentist decided to waive this bill.
Now for any procedures we ask for pre approval and have requested this be on our account that no procedures or costs should be accumulated without pre approval from the insurance company without us being aware first. This was our action plan.
Several other small situations occurred since then and then finally I have a staff member that works here named Hazel. She is just unpleasant, unprofessional and today mid sentence she hung up on me. I was not going to post a Unilocal review and just let this roll off quietly, but not with the treatment I’m receiving. This is unacceptable.
In Summary, the dentist is sweet and good, however, the staff isn’t responsive to email requests, I consistently have to remind them to get pre approvals, or response to my questions via email. I use email with them because then everything is then documented and not «he said she said». They didn’t get pre approval on a visit I recently had and they sent me a surprise bill. I begin to fight the bill, but then decided to give up, pay it and request my medical records. I’ve been dealing with Hazel for my medical records. She has pushed and pushed for me to sign the Xray Release for my medical records. I said Xrays and the regular non-​xray records are different. Just sent my regular records first. She said sign the xray release. I said NO, send my records without the xrays. Finally I had to call her for her to finally understand that I don’t have to sign the Xray Release to receive my other records. She finally understood (i think) and said they would send my records to the address on file. Then hung up on me. Terrible, terrible, terrible. So disappointed.
At first I really enjoyed coming here and talking to the dentist and etc. But my experience here just has declined and I have decided to go to another dentist. This is just heart breaking since I use to really enjoy this place. But its not worth the «surprise bills» and poor treatment of the staff when I have to unfortunately tell them the errors they have made. Like not getting pre approval on a visit just recently and I was sent a bill. Hazel told me they didn’t get pre approval. So they must have forgot or just didn’t do it because they are sick of me managing my own account and ensuring I’m well informed of my out of pocket charges before a procedure. I get it, its extra work for them. But I’m a patient and I deserve to know my out of pocket costs before hand. I deserve respect and understanding. Not punishment from Hazel.
Just super disappointed and heart broken. :(
To also note, Dr. Abbasian’s email address is not specific for just her. Her email address is used by the office staff as well. Multiple staff members have emailed me from her email address. Her email address is misleading since it has her name on it, but multiple staff members respond using her email address. Just be careful when emailing/​documenting your conversations to Dr. Abbasian. Her email address is not limited to just her, its shared among her office.

I haven’t been to a dentist in over a year, so I decided to stop in to get some info. I was kindly greeted by Cory at the front desk and was made to feel comfortable. Dr. Abbasian and her crew (Cesar and Jessica in particular) are all extremely informative, friendly, and made for a positive experience. I was able to see an image of every single tooth during my initial X-​ray and consultation visit and was able to patiently ask questions. I highly recommend!

I’ve been going there for two years due to the close proximity to my work. I didn’t really have a lot to complain about initially, but sure enough, like the previous reviewer mentioned, they start asking me to replace crowns, replace filling, etc. After a few times of that, I decided they have just been way too pushy and decided to move on to another dentist. That was around May /​June of 2014.
Today, I got a call from collection stating that I owe Sorrento Dental $ 161 from a procedure done on 7÷1÷2014. I haven’t been back there since May, and I have ALWAYS paid in full after each visit. I have never received email or phone call from them about me owing them money. Now I have collection calling me.
I left them voicemails and sent an email asking for clarification but still haven’t received response. If I don’t hear back, I’m planning to go into their office and clear it up. Total BS and I don’t appreciate them ruining someone’s credit without reaching out first.
Stay away from them!

Very assertive. Will not take no for an answer. If you do say no to a procedure they will guilt trip you into getting it done. Went in for a follow up and came out 5 hours later with a $ 7500 bill. I explained I am not financially able to get this done. They said I can open a care credit. I asked will it run my credit score. Nurse said no. I think it did. So I said I need to talk to my husband about all of this and then dr. Comes in «what’s the problem here» I told her o need to talk to my husband because this is a lot of money we are talking about. Dr. Says «what do you think your husband will say? Do you think he’ll say no? So what’s the problem? You are the problem» no way was j getting out of their without opening a credit care account and getting all these procedures done that probably was not needed. Anyways, they will do anything to make money. They say it’s for your own good. But what good would it do if I am left with no money to provide for my family!
I was also offered a teeth whiten procedure which is normally $ 650 (said the nurse) and that he will cut the price in half to $ 350. I told him no. He said its for a lifetime. I said let me talk to my husband. When he left I looked on Amazon for the product he was talking about and it was being sold for $ 30. I am so mad at myself that I didn’t say no.
Update I checked the pricings for getting my procedures done and it was way less then what I paid for. I was overcharged by at least $ 3000
Update #2 they use to call for me to come in. Now that they’ve maxed out my insurance, they don’t call anymore.

Don’t be surprised if you walk out of this doctor with recommendation to take out half of your teeth and replace them with the crowns. It’s been almost 5 years after getting the full mouth overhaul recommendation from Dr. Abbasian. So far no problems at all.

Dr. Abbasian is one of the most courteous, friendly, warm, and caring dentists you will find in San Diego.
As a patient of many years, I have always been treated with much generosity, care & courtesy. Her work & skills are top notch, her attitude is of giving & caring, office is equipped with the latest gadgets, and the staff is well trained & friendly.
I definitely recommend Dr A. for minor & major dental work. You will like what you’ll see & experience.

After being a patient of 3 other dentists in the UTC area for the past 15 years I finally found that one that I’m really happy with — Dr Abbasian from Sorrento Dental Care! How does her practice compare to others: very high quality of service, nice and friendly staff, convenient location (that is, if you work at Qualcomm/​UTC/​Torrey Pines area). I like Dr Abbasian’s conservative approach to the more complex dental procedures (unlike other dentists I’ve used in the past) — but don’t take ‘conservative’ to mean old-​fashioned or the opposite of modern. On the contrary, Dr Abbasian seems to be stay abreast with all recent developments in dentistry, as far as a semi-​neophyte like myself can tell. I also like the dental hygienists that work at Sorrento Dental Care and there seems to be a lower-​than-​average turnaround of such staff in this office.
A couple of things to consider: this office is located in a small shopping/​foodcourt area that tends to get very busy around lunchtime. So if you’re thinking of getting your teeth cleaned during your lunch break you may have a hard time finding a parking spot. And, admittedly, a pet peeve: for pretty much all procedures they’ll have you wear these glasses with nasty orange colored lenses, I always feel dizzy afterwards. Last time I complained more vocally so they gave me these dorkish-​looking oversized gray raybans instead.

As I expected I did not receive a call back from the dentist and I never received the payment request that Cori said she mailed to me on December 19^th.
Again, I highly do not recommend this dental office.

I and my whole family have been seeing Dr. Abbasian for our dental needs for several years now, and we couldn’t be any happier! She has equipped her beautiful office with the latest state of the art equipment and she treats all of her patients with the utmost respect, compassion and dignity! But she is genuinely friendly and caring in her attitude as well. I can definitely recommend Dr. Abbasian to anybody looking for a top-​quality dentist!

I have been with her for about 10yrs now (she was my dentist at Gentle Dental). First dentist that I actually have felt comfortable with (I’m was deathly afraid of the dentist). When she left Gentle Dental, I actually looked for her online and saw that she started her own office and quickly made an appt. She does great work and you never feel like she is trying to be sketchy or dishonest (many bad experiences with previous dentists). She is always warm and willing to sit and explain everything to you. HIGHLY recommend!

I asked around for a referral for a new dentist because I felt like mine had been too pushy trying to «upsell» me. My friend referred me to Dr. Abbasian and I had a great experience. The entire staff put me at ease and the overall environment is very calming. I would absolutely recommend!

Dr. Abbasian is FANTASTIC! I have been going to her for years and I always leave with a smile (see what I did there). She is very good at her job and provides the very best care possible. Her office is beautiful and she is so pleasant that I feel more like I’m at a spa getting pampered than at a dentist’s office. I highly recommend her to anyone who is looking for a knowledgable, friendly, and honest dentist.

I don’t know anyone who ‘likes’ going to the dentist. Yet, after over 10 years, I look forward to seeing Dr. Abbasian and her staff twice a year (hopefully no more than that!). Her location is convenient, she uses state of the art technology in a beautiful setting. She is very thorough and thoughtful too. I love the consistency I have created by going back to Dr. Abbasian time and time again. She has digital photographic records of my teeth! Everything is computerized and state of the art. I am always comfortable and in and out. I rarely wait more than just a few minutes to see the hygienist and start the X-​ray/​Cleaning process. My only warning is to avoid lunchtime apts. The parking lot has several eateries that overwhelm the parking lot.

This dentist is amazing. She uses state of the art of technology to help her to deduce what’s going on. She found things that my former dentist just could not see with the naked eye or the pick. I knew there was more going on with my teeth and my former dentist would always tell me «you’re fine» and take my money. Thank you Dr. Abbasian and your staff for being so through and caring! The staff not only went over the cost of the procedures before they began but they also emailed me the suggested plan and allowed me to pick which and when to do each one. They use email to remind of appointments as well and since I am an avid smart phone user I really like this added benefit. Additionally, there was NO PRESSURE to do any of the procedures recommended. I truly appreciate that. For all of these reasons, Sorrento Dental Care will have our business for many years to come.
