San Diego Speed Boat Adventures

I purchased this as a groupon, so that my husband and I could have some fun and have an adventure in the San Diego waters. The groupon offered a great deal for 2 people and we decided to go on December 24, 2015 at the earliest reservation (9am) which was the best as far as the conditions. I was nervous because it had been raining earlier in the week, but it seems that we had gotten lucky. We waited to check in for the reservation we made. There was a an older couple and a family of four waiting when we got there. We had to pay an additional fee for the gas for about $ 10.60.
Once we were all checked in, we went down to the docks and our tour guide explained all the rules. You don’t have to know much, just stay safe and keep in mind of the distance and the speed between other boats. Our tour guide was great and explained the rules very thoroughly. She split us up into 4 separate boats while she was at the front in a boat of her own and we were off. She takes you around the harbor area and gives a tour. The whole thing was really thrilling. Eventually, when you get far enough from everything you can speed up to «full throttle» so you push your gear all the way up and follow her. Unfortunately one of the boats seemed that they were having difficulty as though it wasn’t as fast as the others. She kept having to go back and help them. We were the first ones behind the guide in the trail of 5 total boats, so we would just circle around a few times which was fun in itself because we were going so fast and the water was a little choppy at some points. Eventually, the problem was resolved somewhat and we were able to continue the tour around the area. What was great was that we were able to switch drivers! My husband had tried it first and it was fun to try it myself.
We both had a great time and I would recommend this experience to anyone. I want to take my family out here so that they can try it for themselves, but they’re afraid they’ll fall out of the boat!

Had a good time. Ended up buying a Groupon for the place. Only negative was that my girlfriend and myself got stuck with the crappy boat. I literally had to sit on the front of the boat to level it out. We even got left behind since our boat was so slow. We had a good laugh. If I paid anything more I would have been unsatisfied

How did I live in San Diego all my life and I’m just discovering this place! What an adrenaline, 25 miles feels a lot faster in water.
Take some sun block, shades and a towel, the boat we had was a wave rider.
145 dollars for 2ppl well spent.

San Diego Speed boat adventures is a must! Not only is the staff friendly but you also get to drive a 2-​seater boat! Kelly was our tour guide and she was awesome! She knew the balance between being a tour guide/​talking and letting the customer drive the boat. We were allowed to open it up, full throttle! I will differently be back! Thank you Kelly and the staff of SD Speed Boat Adventures!

Talk about an adventure!!! You are soaring in these speed boats across the San Diego bay at speeds between 30−40mph but it feels like 60! I took my dad here as a Fathers Day gift excepting to Putz around the bay seeing some nice San Diego sights but mostly having a semi-​dull experience. Boy was I wrong, I felt like James Bond at moments all while seeing seals, Dolphins, and San Diego oh my! The most fun I have had in a speed boat.

This is the real deal! These mini speedboats are a blast! Our tour guide let us go full speed to each destination throughout the tour! A great way to tour San Diego Bay.

So unexpectedly a great mid-​day activity! Our tour guide, Rob, was informed & pleasant. Got to motor small speed crafts through San Diego Harbour at a decent speed! Saw active Naval ships, dolphin training sites — for military purposes, seals sunning, but hands down the best part was floating right underneath the USS Midway Museum viewing it from underneath was magnificent! A little pricey but SO worth every $

What an awesome time! My boyfriend and i booked a Sunday 1pm tour and it was great! Kelly our tour guide was amazing she has a lot of patience and was very good at explaining all of the instructions to us. As 1^st timers I think we did a good job, we did get lost for a couple of minutes due to all of the boat traffic, But we were found immediately by the tour guide. I did not do the driving i was kinda scared but we got to go very fast and even stopped by to check out some seals and the Midway!
Customer Service was great as well i had a lot of questions via email and on the phone about booking issues and they were all handled perfectly with no problem! Thank You Speed Boat adventures for an amazing time. I definetly recommend this to everyone!

So much fun yet so scary bcuz we hit a massive wave and it went inside our boat and ruined my phone. But like the guy said its called speed boat adventures so your heart should beat a little faster at some point lol
Staff by far the best ever!!!

What a blast! My GF and I went here on friday of easter weekend which we thought was gonna be pretty full but it wasn’t only 6 boats went out on the water. (they said they have had up to 12 boats out there) our tour (ROB) i think? was amazing. He knew no one had any experience driving a boat so he was patient with us, but he showed us everything we needed to know so i never felt like I was doing something wrong. when we were out in the water it was super fun. thankfully they said it was perfect day to go out because the weather was perfect, there was little to no boat traffic out there.
When we were in the water we went pretty fast and our tour always kept an eye out for everyone. We were the fifth boat in line we were towards the back and our boat started to slow down for no reason and he saw that quickly and came to our rescue making sure there was nothing wrong with the boat and helping us restart it to get it back out there. To top it all off you get to see awesome things like the navy training dolphins and seals!?, the bottom of the U.S.S. midway, Cornado Island! and many other things.
overall it was a great unforgettable experience that I would do again.

Such a fun experience! You do not need any experience to drive the speed boats. The tour guide will give through instructions before heading out. It is a great way to see the San Diego bay, get up close to sea lions and the USS Midway.
They have a discounted online price as well but check groupon for better deals! I got mine for $ 86 for two. Call in advance for reservations as spots fill up quickly on the weekend. They’ll also have you bring in an additional $ 10 for gas. I brought extra money for tip as well since it was definitely well deserved!

Easy to operate boat and Rob was an awesome tour guide, explained directions really well and was a big help when my boat needed to be restarted.
You’ll get to ride around the coast see all the giant navy ships and sea lions! Don’t be nervous when other boats are coming ahead of you just weave behind them or let them weave behind you.
Overall great experience, hold on to your hats!

had a great time out on the water. Used a groupon special deal and really got the most bang out of my buck. A great slow paced tour that even a beginner could handle. We didn’t have the fastest boat but I rather enjoyed hanging back from the crowd a bit. I wont tell you to bring a bottle of wine with you because that is illegal but be sure to bring a bottle of wine with you to break up the boredom. I would totally do it again if they explanations and safety guidelines didnt take so long. It was about a half hour of instruction that I could’ve lived without. I do understand it’s a liability issue and there are plenty of bad boaters out there.

AN ABSOLUTE MUST-​DO! I found a Groupon deal for this event (speedboat tour for 2– $ 69). I wanted to take my mother who was in town to something fun and this was the perfect idea.
We arrived, signed a small disclaimer, got our life jackets and were on our way! Boats were very easy to manage and control, and they were FAST! Our group was super cooperative and our guide Percy was entertaining as can be.
Youre able to the see the whole bay, skyline, different naval ships, go under the Coronado bridge. He gave us free reign on the way back for about 40 minutes to cruise the open waters, to zig zag or catch air on the waves. I havent had this much fun in San Diego. Highly recommended for people of all ages.

My husband surprised me by taking me on my first speed boat adventure last weekend and we had an awesome time. From the moment he told me that he was going to take me, I was already super excited and reading all the reviews on Unilocal.
We made an appointment a day ahead for a tour at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning and were told to arrive 30 minutes early. We parked in the parking lot in front, walked upstairs and around the corner to their office, signed some papers, paid the $ 10 gas fee and got our life jackets. The tour guide told us to use the restroom since we wouldn’t be stopping and then wait in front. We waited with 2 other groups and had to wait pass 9 since a group showed up at 9 so show up early, you don’t want to be the one everyone is waiting on. The tour guide came down and went over some basic rules with us and then we were ready!
It was pretty chilly even though I was wearing long sleeves but that quickly subsided with all the fun we were having. My husband drove first and since it was our first time driving a boat, we were airborne quite a few times. Crazy fun but painful at the same time. Once we got the hang of it, we were driving parallel with the waves and able to get as close as touching distance to the sea lion and the USS Midway. We were out on the water early so we basically had the whole place to ourselves. Super fun and a different experience that is a must try.

scared! I do not know how to swimmmmm. yes I know life vest jacket. Husband was speeding .I FELT I was. going to fall off this boat. I rented two boats but, when it all came down to buckle up. I couldn’t do it by myself Lol… so after all that and we where done, I was kindly refunded for 1 boat rental… it was TONS of FUN… but water and me don’t mix… will do it again I suppose in another life :)

This felt like a kids adventure on a go kart track, in the water!
This was a great way to have a small tour of San Diego. There are some great historical stops along the way and that makes the trip even more fun.
The boats need a little TLC. But for the most part, are just all the speed u need on a loaner boat. I’m still amazed how much these guys let you do with theyr boat!
All in all it’s worth the money for you and a friend to hit the waters and have some speed boat fun.

Totally worth it!
Bought a group-​on and was unable to schedule until after the expiration date. So we had to pay the difference, but like I said totally worth it!
Tip: if you can, get a group of friends together to take the same tour (we got stuck behind slow people at one point :/​) And ladies bring a hair tie ;)
Lots of fun, make sure you hit a wake or two!

«Speed boatt. Woooooooo!» –you (as those will be the only words coming out of your mouth as you’re driving)
$ 59/​person to drive a speed boat 1.5 hours around the San Diego harbor. Unfortunately I was unable to find a B1G1 groupon/​living social deal, but I think the price is worth it considering when/​where else would I ever have the opportunity to do this.
There were 6 other parties of 2 on the tour. We followed the tour guide and each boat had a speaker/​walkie talkie so he could communicate to us about where to go/​stop/​speed/​what to see. We could not communicate with him though.
It’s pretty cool driving your own boat around the harbor. My favorite thing was cruising by the sea lions. We’re going pretty slow at this point and are so close to the sea lions we could have touched them. The sea lions were also bobbing super close to the boat as well… could have hit one of them with the boat. We also drove past this huge ship near the sailor statue.
Side notes:
— Call for extra parking: the parking lot was full and half of it was blocked off so we had to find street parking. If that’s the case, the speed boat girl said to call the office and they can let you in the back lot.
— Bring sunglasses and a windbreaker if you don’t want to get wet. Obvs it’s the ocean but I didn’t expect to get splashed so much in the face.
I would do this again and most def recommend it to anyone visiting the area. Search for deals online! (I used a $ 10 off per boat coupon on their website)
