History

Established in 2008.

The San Diego sailing yacht Jada is designed for blue water ocean racing. She was built over seventy years ago as a solid and fast passage making vessel, and even today with the advent modern fiberglass sailing vessels, Jada is still considered a fast boat. Her full keel and yawl rigged sails make her a very stable and safe vessel, even for crossing oceans on extended voyages.

Today it would cost nearly $ 2,000,000.00 to design and construct Jada to her original specifications. Below deck Jada’s interior was created by master craftsmen using the finest teak wood available providing a warm glow to all passengers aboard. Her cabin sole (floor) is also teak with gorgeous holly inlays capturing the quality of a bygone era.

Rare at the time of her construction is Jada’s hard-​dodger cockpit cabin, which keeps her passengers warm and cozy when conditions are less than ideal. Navel Architect: Philip Rho

I was looking for a fun birthday outing for my husband’s birthday and Sail Jada came highly recommended. As soon as I spoke to Carole about the details I knew I wanted to go with them! She was so helpful and made the entire planning process easy. Carole was also very responsive which is hard to find!
The day of the sail was a blast! We had 4 crew members who were all friendly and informative. We brought all our own drinks/​food on board and 1 of the crew members was nice enough to come around deck offering drinks and bites to eat. It was such a fun, relaxing day.
I would highly recommend Carole and the Sail Jada team if you are looking for a fun day on the bay!

We booked the whole boat for our party of 25.
It’s an old-​school wooden sailing boat sure to impress the whole party. Just make sure it’s not raining since you will be sitting outside the whole time.
They allowed us to bring beers and snacks to drink and eat.
I highly recommend if you want to try something different for a birthday or anniversary.
Warning: it will get 10 – 15 degrees colder because of the wind chill. Bring a jacket.
I wouldn’t bring your small children, since the boat can tip over 45 degrees at any given second because of the waves and winds.

I recently chartered the Jada for a memorial service and ash scattering after my husband passed away. The crew and the boat were amazing. Beautiful yawl and a kind and gracious crew! Everything was wonderful and came off perfectly. Everyone we invited complimented the crew. What a fabulous send off for my husband. Thanks to Carol, the owner, for all her help with the plans.

I never miss an opportunity to be aboard Jada whenever work takes me to San Diego. It’s so relaxing to be on the water, glimpse back at the gorgeous city skyline receding as we head out in search of whales and strikingly beautiful sunsets. Never disappoints!

Gosh, we had such a great time touring the bay on this ship. The crew was very skillful, and the owner (who was on board) was the perfect host. It’s amazing how fast this vessel goes with no motor/​diesel fumes/​noise. We are going out again for the whale watching version and are bringing out of town relatives with us.

If booze cruises and speedboats blaring techno music are not your thing, check out the Jada! It’s the real deal, and runs on wind power for the vast majority of the trip. Complimentary wine, beer and snacks are offered throughout the trip by a very pleasant staff. The captain shares just the right amount of history and fun facts along the way. It was a very relaxing, fun and unique tour. I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to tour the San Diego harbor.

Due to my previous amazing experience sailing on Jada, I wasn’t short of a fantastic idea when it was time to host a very special birthday party :) I and Carole exchanged numerous e-​mails to go over each and every detail for the party. I reserved the boat for 3 hours on a Sunday afternoon and our party of 15 had an amazing time!
Carole is a wonderful hostess. We had discussed and I had taken a bunch of appetizers, she asked me what order I would like them to be served and kept the food coming. Beer /​Wine is included and she was kind enough to serve the birthday boy’s favorite beer. We had an absolutely fantastic time and would highly recommend Sail Jada for a private party!

Had an amazing time. Great to take anyone of any age and for any type of occasion. Staff is wonderful and does their job well. I’m considering going back with my 6 yr old daughter some day. Very peaceful and relaxing if you know San Diego well and yet if you don’t they will tell you all about the Harbor and it’s history. I had a great time.

Great crew, fun day sailing. Actually for me, the most fun was motoring out in the large swells. The Captain found the whales quickly and we got to follow along a little more closely than I have on the larger boat whale watching tours. The boat was amazingly smooth while we were under full sail. You might not get as good a view as on the larger ships because you are only a few feet off the water but you get a closer view. Also, having 10 – 20 folks with you always seems nicer than having 50−200… Don’t expect a gourmet lunch, it’s a nice sandwich, chips, beer and/​or wine as advertised. Bring whatever backups you need as far as clothing if you just can’t stand be wet, but you don’t get much of a splash unless you want too. Also, remember it gets cold on the water this time if year. Good friendly service and a fun experience.

My significantly lovelier than I, partner bought this for my birthday and we had a wonderful time out on the Bay on Saturday (21 Sep) on a great day for wind.
Carol was very welcoming and a lovely and generous hostess. David, the captain, had a tireless stream of quips and jokes. Jokes aside though, this is a captain who knows his business and his craft, love of sailing and expertise shows.
I would recommend you eat a light lunch before boarding (we left at 1pm). Snacks ARE provided but they are things like nuts, pretzels, crackers and cheese. You really should put down a foundation so you can enjoy a glass or two of wine on the high seas. We arrived a little early (miracles happen) and had a drink in the hotel bar right by the dock — but they don’t serve food outside. There are two restaurants inside the hotel that do serve food.
The Jada is a well-​cared for treasure: the teak, the smell, the history; this boat reeks of class. She is fast too, as David was happy to demonstrate, and we had a blast sailing to Cabrillo Point and a couple of circles of the Bay downtown near the Midway.
A wonderful and much enjoyed time. Can’t wait to go back.

If you buy from goldstar, it says that you will enjoy light snacks and limited beer and wine… even on the goldstar site. When I researched before I bought, all the reviews said there is plenty on board so don’t worry about bringing any. Well… it was an awkward moment when I got to the boat and they said if you bought from goldstar, you aren’t supposed to get the whole experience with drinks and appetizers mentioned on their website, goldstar website, and in all the comments about the experience… so let me be the review that forewarns you… make sure to consider that when doing your research before you buy. Spending $ 756 on the 12 of us, I just thought we’d get the full experience still. But make sure you take your own snacks/​drinks if you decide to buy. Other than not knowing that and not being prepared for that, it was a good time. We had 12 people out there and we would all love to sail again. The crew was friendly and knowledgeable.

If you can get a booking, you must do this! First time I tried sailing and it was great! From departure to the end all was perfect. Great boat, friendly crew members, delicious refreshment and the beautiful blue sky made the stress I have in me go away with the wind. We had a great few hours sailing. The crew members were fantastic, very knowledgeable, confident and relaxed. Everything was perfect to enjoy this new experience of Sailing for me. It was my lucky day. I live in San Diego and never done that and now I recommend everyone to try it! And thanks a lot to all Sail Jada crew for this great moment, I really appreciate it.

Sailed on Saturday with a good friend. We had an outstanding time. The boat is just beautiful and the sailing was smooth. Any worries I had about getting seasick were soon put to rest. Very pleasant sail around the harbor to view the beautiful San Diego skyline, Marine Museum, beaches etc.
The crew was excellent. Very competent and friendly and shared a lot of information about what we were seeing. Plenty of beverages and snacks were served throughout the sail.
Very comfortable and enjoyable experience. I would highly recommend them.

This is a must do activity in San Diego for a sunny Saturday. This is the most relaxing experience as the bay breeze hits your face and the sun warms your body all the while you feel the quiet natural motion of the water. The crew is very nice and knowledgeable of the marine life, military and the ships that are around. The crew comes around with snacks and drinks frequently so you will not go hungry on this ride. This is a must do activity for everyone solo, family or couples.

4 of us (2 couples) did a whale watching/​sailing trip yesterday on Jada. Got tickets through Goldstar. We had an amazing time. Weather was perfect. Found whales and the whales seem to put on a show for us. Three times they jumped out of the water. Too bad you have no warning, so no one got pictures. Did get plenty of pictures of whale backs and tails. Also saw dolphins and sea lions. Crew was just wonderful keeping us comfortable and entertained with drink, food, blankets and interesting facts. This would have been a great trip even if we didn’t see any animals. Just so nice being on this beautiful yacht.
While this is more costly then the average hornblower trip, it’s well worth it. This is the «adult» way to see whales. Small, intimate (only 9 people on our trip, owner said they usually have around 15, and that would have still been a nice amount in the boat), great food and service.

My nephew and his girlfriend were visiting from IL — when I asked them what things they would like to do while here, they said their personal goal was to see a whale! I found the Jada and saw an opportunity to not only make their dream come true, but to do it in style! We had a wonderful time! The crew members were friendly, the weather was sunny and beautiful, and Jenn’s knowledge of sea mammals and her willingness to share it was priceless! Then there was the unexpected and much appreciated offering of food and drink! The whales cooperated, the sea lions were in evidence, and the extra sight seeing tour of SD bay was magnificent. Dave shared lots of information on local ships and Brad shared much about the art of sailing. What a day! To say we treasure the memories is just not adequate! Thank you for a wonderful experience! I can’t wait for the next one!

We finally had our first experience sailing the harbor bay of San Diego with Jada Yacht Charters. I can honestly say this was the best experience we could have had, bar none. The Jada sail boat and its amazing sailing team were an extremely fun, polite, entertaining and professional group to be with. We highly recommend this sailing experience to anyone, couples, families, or just an individual who is looking for a fun and adventurous day on the beautiful ocean bay of San Diego.
