Quality Inn San Diego Downtown North

I stayed in the room which was the most uncomfortable stay I have ever had at a hotel. The room was ridiculously small, my bedroom at home was larger than that hotel room. It actually felt as though the room used to be a utility closet that was renovated to be a room. The sink actually had a garbage disposal in it. The floor really needed to be vacuumed as there were a bunch of crumbs all over it and was filthy. I actually would use the lobby restroom during my stay because I felt it was more well taken care of than my room restroom. It was also incredibly humid and stuffy, which made it feel like a sweat sock and smelled. I would’ve liked to open a window but I would literally be at eye level with people’s feet. For $ 150 for one night, I feel as though I definitely didn’t deserve to sleep in a «basement» of a hotel and can find a better deal for a nicer room elsewhere. It just made me extremely claustrophobic and made me feel gross to stay there. I definitely do not recommend this stay to others. It really put a damper on my vacation to San Diego.

The entire staff is great, from the concierge all the way through to the maintenance staff. Excellent continental breakfast! Check in was quick easy, the rooms were immaculate, there is a very small gym (unexpectedly cool touch though) and a little patio of sorts. The showers are awesome and the beds are amazing!

We have stayed at this property numerous times when it was the America’s Best Value Inn. They were acquired by Days Inn and did a renovation so the rooms all look brand new. The furniture is all new and the property is extremely clean. The lady is at the front desk has been there for at least a few years. All of the staff is accommodating and friendly. The continental breakfast is much upgraded from when it was America’s Best Value Inn. There were two kinds of cold cereal, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, toast/​muffins, meat, juices, and make your own waffles, as well as coffee, tea, and milk. It was a perfect start until we could get cleaned up and check out. The only negative we have ever thought about this property is that there’s only street parking and it’s hard to find a spot that isn’t metered without panning out a few blocks. We pull up and unload luggage in the 30 minute parking outside the front door, then one of us checks in while the other scopes out parking. The second thing to note is the hotel is in the flight path of the airport so you will occasionally hear a loud plane noise from incoming flights. Neither of the negatives are a big deal. There are tons of restaurants, shops, and entertainment places within a short walk down 4^th. We even walked to and from Petco Park. The area has a lot of homeless, but so does all of downtown. We’ve never felt unsafe walking around the area at night.

You definitely get what you pay for here which, depending on how you look at things in life, can either really good or really bad. Being as close to the Gaslamp Quarter as this place is (15 minute walk /​$ 6 über), it was definitely the cheapest option in town given the proximity (everything else was $ 300+ /​night). That being said, the rooms were not bad at all! Our only issue was that our toilet did not flush on the very last morning; otherwise the bed was clean and comfortable, the room was fully equipped and the place itself was safe.
There is no parking lot for the hotel so plan on parking on the street and feeding the meters until six. They do serve breakfast until 10 as well. If you’re staying in town for just a night or two, I definitely recommend staying here given the value. I also want to note that my reservation was for a group with five rooms (booked through booking) and the front desk did a great job in handling the check-​ins and payments. Would consider staying here again if there aren’t any better options.

I got what I paid for and more! The front staff, in particular Bobby, who exhibited tremendous customer service during my stay at the quality inn.

THIS HOTEL IS UNDER RENOVATION. I understand that properties need to be renovated to occasionally but it would be nice to have a heads-​up before booking so the consumer can decide whether they want to deal with this or not. The construction started at 6:50 AM on Saturday morning and continued all day and also all day Sunday. They were even Working on the room directly above mine at 9:00 AM on Sunday morning. I find this lack of awareness and consideration astounding. Other things to note… There is a metal security door from the lobby to get to the rooms that slams shut and shakes the whole building. I was in room 301 (which is actually js the second floor, not 3^rd) and from about 6:30am — 9:30am– the heavy traffic times) it sounded like a a cannon going off every 2 – 3 minutes when someone passed through this door. Needless to say I didn’t get any sleep all weekend. The WIFI network didn’t even show up on my Ipad, it appeared on my phone once, but I was kicked off after signing on and didn’t bother to go through the hassle of logging on every time I wanted to use it.

The room was luxurious. The only bad part was the parking. The hotel does not have it’s own parking. You have to park out on the street. Which can be very inconvenient. Majority of the TV channels were HD. The breakfast was good. Scrambled eggs and sausage etc. The staff was cool.

Location is great. Complimentary hot breakfast. Decently renovated rooms. Great customer service. Internet did not work the entire stay but the gentleman and lady at the front desk exemplified their customer service and made the situation fair. Overall great experience.
