Four Points by Sheraton San Diego Downtown

Not a good experience at this hotel. Arrived late with the kids tired after a long day at Legoland only to find that they are a valet only facility and on top of the room rate we would also be charged $ 32 dollars additional per night to park the car! Whatever, I was exhausted so I paid it. The hotel itself was whatever, nothing overly nice but decent. Got to our room, tucked the kids into bed and went to shower only to discover the shower didn’t drain! Went to call front desk and low and behold the phone doesn’t work! Walked down to front desk who said they could send someone up to fix it but it would be really loud and my kids were fast asleep. Option two, move rooms but again my kids were sleeping and we had already taken everything out. Option 3, go shower in another room but that just seemed weird and inconvenient. Ended up just saying F the shower as by this time it was late and I was exhausted. Not what you want to deal with when checking into a hotel for the night after a long day. The hotel was also near and airport and very noisy. I thought they might offer some kind of comp. for the bad experience, maybe even for the ridiculous parking fee, but no. Next time I’m in SD I will definitely pass on this hotel.

So the only thing that upset me about my stay was the fact that I could not get a roll away. I called prior to arriving and was told that they were based on availability so sure enough when I checked they were out. So the following morning I stopped by the front desk and requested one and told the agent (whom was kind of unapproachable) that it was ok to place it in the room because I was going to be gone most of day. So I returned after a few hours and still no roll away. I called and they said they would check and they were still out. Other than that if you’re booking a handicap accessible room be aware that room 1404 is haunted. Not kidding around. The over night staff was really nice as well. Also if you’re not lazy there is plenty of street parking if look around and don’t mind a little 2min walk. I work in hospitality and its either you pay the charge or go look why fret over it.

We stayed here during the weekend of West Coast Weekender, which is one of the official hotels for the event. My friend Chuck and I shared a room with 2 queen beds and the accommodations were decent. We didn’t park my bimmer at the hotel since we found an affordable parking lot across from the hotel.
Bed and pillows were plush and comfortable. Despite the early morning noises from someone working on the plumbing, it was a good stay. We did have linen service every day and maintenance came by to fix our tv as soon as we called it in.

My overall experience was horrible. The hotel itself would have gotten a 2 star but it’s baker service was extremely terrible that I have to give it a 1. Guilty by association. I’ll start with the hotel. First of all there’s no parking on the premise, it’s either street parking or valet for $ 32/​day. We were staying for 1 night so didn’t mind forking up $ 32 but imagine being here for like 3 – 4 days, the valet fee could have been for another night. The room we had was on the 6 floor and it wasn’t much sound proof. I can hear the next door neighbor quite clearly. When we entered the room, the fan was blasting which I think was unneccessary. Here comes the part why this hotel got a 2 and not 3 star. The lotion bottle in the restroom was completely empty. I was so grossed out by it. I can’t believe they didn’t throw out that used bottle when they clean the room. It’s okay if I don’t have lotion but to see a used bottle of lotion in the restroom is a big no no. In addition, maintenance didn’t bother refilling the tissue and toilet paper. Not cool at all. I was sick and ran out of tissue in the middle of the night.
Now the reason why the hotel deserve a 1 star is the valet service. The valet people ruined my friends car gear board. When we asked to speak to a manager or supervisor, the supervisor tried to rush us out and further breaking the plastic cover of the gear board. He blamed it on wear and tear when it was clearly him doing in since I was sitting right nice to him while he tried to fix it. The supervisor was irresponsible and did not know how to handle the situation. We asked to file a complaint and in his defense he doesn’t know what the process is since he’s never done it before. That’s just a lame excuse. You’re a supervisor for a reason. You are trained to handle escalated situation. He wasted an hour of our time and we were late for our lunch. Use valet at your own risk. If your car get damaged, they won’t take any responsibility for it.

Ugh. You know it was a horrible experience if I have to start my review with an «ugh». The horrible, stressful experience was because of valet. First off, it’s ridiculous enough that valet parking is 32 dollars a night. Valet is the only option; you can try to find street parking but it is very limited so goodluck with that. Valet is managed by a different management company and so when an issue occurrs, management at the hotel cant do anything to help you. but it’s fine, not their fault so not extremely mad at them.
First off, the valet manager, Daniel Neill, is the most useless person on this planet. When he was called over to see the damage in my car, he made it even worst (will post pictures). Then he tried to say that his employee did not cause the damage and that it’s because my car is old. Mind you readers, I drive a 2009 Lexus IS with only 81,000 miles. He didn’t know how to file and fill out a claim form, said that it’s because he’s never done it before. Well you’re a manager, you should’ve been trained for it, if not, learn, plus it’s pretty self explanatory and common sense!!! Wrote down the wrong Vin number, luckily I double checked. Went back out to my car to take pictures but never did so had to go back out again to do it… then what the heck did you do when you went out the first time? Once he completed all the paperwork, he went and chit chatted with the front desk people, never once told me he was done and that we we were good to leave; I had to hunt him down. He didn’t even ask for my claim form, I had to give it to him. He didn’t even give us a carbon copy of his form… literally had to ask him for everything. He was rude, useless, inadequate, was not apologetic at all for the damge and did not know how to do anything. I might as well run the valet service for you! My friend and I literally had to ask for his manager number and name, a copy of everything we documented. I’ve never had to file a claim either… but it’s just common sense stuff, dude! This happened on 4÷26÷16 and I never once got a phone call or follow up email from valet management or hotel management.
I finally got an email this morning from valet management saying they’ve reviewed the claim and there is not enough proof and that Towne park will not be liable for this. First off, what kind of proof did Daniel even submit? Second, if I brought my car in and the plastic part in my shift gear was perfectly fine, and you bring my car back out and it was messed up, whose fault is that when the last person to drive the car was the valet driver? You bet I will respond to that email to get to the bottom of this.
This was such a horrible and frustrating experience. Do not stay here because their valet service is horrible… worst customer service ever! It’s been a week and I’m still fuming with anger as I write this! Ugh ugh ugh!!!

Very attractive entry and décor. The room was very comfortably equipped and smelled and looked clean. The white linens and beds were very nice with 4 pillows each .
Based on location, you will be hearing constant traffic .
You HAVE to valet your car. So plan on that added expense. Also you will not get a free breakfast if you choose /​qualify for the AAA Or Gov’t rate.

The hotel staff is nice, they were as accommodating as possible to my needs (moving my room, I will get to that again later). That said … there is nothing special about the hotel overall.
Aside from a valet only parking (at 30 dollars a night). There is just so much noise on anything near the elevators or facing the freeway. Seriously, you will be lucky to squeeze in five hours or more. The elevators seem to quiet down around 2am and freeway traffic picks up at 5am.
This hotel will be only for the super deep sleepers until some serious sound proofing gets put in place.

I was excited that this was located so close to downtown, but of course, it wasn’t picked by me personally. It was automatically chosen through Expedia with one of their flight+hotel package deals. Meh, how often would we be in the room anyways right?
We checked in around midnight because we flew in pretty late Friday night. The night audit obviously hated her job given she had an attitude problem and was not afraid to talk back. Way to make a welcoming impression… rude.
First thing I noticed in the room when we dropped off our stuff… this dark, medium sized stain by the tv desk. Gross. I told the night auditor lady about it too just to be safe so they don’t try anything shady like blame it on us.
The room itself was very outdated and didn’t seem to have anything! The bathroom had no ventilation so if you took a hot shower, all the steam lingered for awhile. Good luck taking a shit in there too. No fridge, no microwave, very basic room. One of the nights, we got back around 5pm and found a dirty ragged towel in the sink probably forgotten from the housekeepers! If you’re going to leave your dirty cleaning supplies in our room, could you at least replenish us with new towels and toiletries?
There is also a homeless shelter or camp literally right across the street from the front of the hotel. The only separation is a thing fence. Not sure what the architect was smoking when they designed this hotel, but it was pretty whack.
FYI — Parking is $ 32 for 12 hours and is Valet only. They recommended that if you want to park your own car, it would have to be on the street somewhere, but I don’t recommend it… we saw a bunch of glass along the roads so I’m sure break ins happen frequently.

Their whole «text to get your car» thing does not work… which is great when you’re trying to catch a 6am flight and after 12 minutes, the valet hasn’t even shown up, much less gotten your car. At 4:30am when there are no other customers around. And the front desk gal says, «I’m sure you’ll be fine.» Great — so if I miss my flight, you’re giving me my room back, right?
This SPG platinum guest won’t be back.

My stay here in June 2015– I’d chosen it specifically for location — walking distance to Little Italy, the trolley stop, as well as Balboa Park (and sure, starpoints sound good.)
Perfectly adequate –three stars –though I’m not a huge fan of the round building. (Last one I stayed at was near Mile High Stadium when it was Mile High Stadium… the «V» hotel or something.)
That fourth star is for the service — professional front desk! Not only that… way early check-​In and late checkout was much needed and appreciated.
I prefer a room away from elevators and ice. Tricky, since ice machine here is every «even» floor. Likely quieter is «odd» floor. So you want odd floor, away from elevator for max quiet.
There is an outdoor pool. Don’t know if it’s heated. Does have the «roadside» feel as it is located «roadside.» Don’t come here for the pool, I’d say. Freeway noise outside but not in the room as was the case on the 11^th floor.
Complimentary morning coffee and tea in room & lobby. There is a restaurant in the lobby that seemed to do a healthy business. Nice shuttle drivers and complimentary airport to/​fro. Reasonable room rates.
I’d stay here again if I desired this location.

We stayed at this hotel on a whim when our other plans to stay at a Navy friends house fell through. We booked a room online and showed up to the location within 10 minutes. The man at the front desk was a little slow, but he was very nice so nothing too bothersome. The room seemed clean and the bed was very comfortable. We stayed 2 nights and were close enough to most downtown locations we walked everywhere we wanted to go so that was nice. We really did enjoy ourselves for the time we were actually in the hotel.
My only complaints would be the noise and parking…
$ 32 a night for parking is damn rediculous. We should have parked just a block away for MUCH cheaper, but no one told us it cost anything until we checked out two days later. That needs to change. For as much as you usually charge for those rooms, you need to offer free parking or at least tell people what it costs so they can choose to refuse your valets.
Also the noise was rediculous in this place. Any time the people on either side of us or above us turned on the shower or flushed the toilet, I thought I was in the bathroom with them. And the hotel is RIGHT next to the intestate and those windows do not do much to block out the sound. Traffic did die down at night though and we were able to sleep comfortably.
All in all, I wouldn’t rule out staying here again, but I would do a few things differently.

When I visit San Diego I usually look for a nice affordable place. Luckily I had found your hotel and that has been my go to spot for a couple of years. This last time I visited your hotel, In December 2015, I forgot a personal belonging of mine at your hotel. I didn’t realize it until I arrived back home.
I called your hotel to speak to your lost and found department. I left a voicemail, hoping I would receive some kind of response. My husband and I called numerous times. We kept being transferred to Sadie, the head of housekeeping, and she never seemed to return my calls. After about a month, trying to get a hold of someone, I got tired of waiting and decided to speak to your General Manager at that location. I called and Ali, a customer service representative, answered my call and said that he would be able to help me. He did apologize that no one had returned any of my calls and said he would investigate the problem. I gave him my information and he said he would call me back. I never received a call.
I called again the next day and spoke to Ali, and told him that he never called me back. He said that the lobby was really busy and he didn’t get a chance to call me back. He placed me on hold for about 10 minutes, another representative said that Ali, was busy, but that she would be able to take down the information they needed. I gave them my email, phone number, and full name, and was told that Sadie would be emailing me information on how to get my item shipped to me.
Two weeks passed and I never received an email. I called again asking for Ali, and he said that he had given the information to Sadie. I was put on hold while he went to see what was going on. I got tired of holding so I hung up. Sadie finally called me back and said that they did have my belonging, which I already knew, and that I could have it shipped or pick it up, which I already knew as well. Ali had explained all this to me since our first conversation. I told Sadie that it is ridiculous that I have had to wait almost 2 months for her to call me to tell me things I already knew. I told her I was over this and I was going to have to drive an hour and a half to San Diego to go pick up my belonging because she couldn’t take 2 minutes of her time to pick up the phone and return my calls. She didn’t seem to care. I received no apology, all she said was that she would leave it with Ali in the front. The fact that she didn’t apologize or care at all bothered me the most.
It’s a shame that such a nice hotel could lose business due to your customer service personnel. Having to wait almost two months for one phone call is ridiculous. Unfortunately, I was never given the information to the General Manager to speak to him directly. Customer service is the face of every company, it reflects your entire business. Truthfully, it felt like the customer service at this location doesn’t seem to care about their guests.

Downgrading my review. They no longer offer us discounts or complimentary breakfast at their restaurant. The hotel has gone downhill. Sad ’cause it used to be one of my favorite locations.

This place is full of lies!!! I made reservations on their local number and got nothing but lies!!! It’s old okay… But to tell me you have a rollaway that sleeps two and is better then sleeping in a palace. Front desk does not have a clue. They blame it on central reservations. Even after I told them I needed two rooms to sleep four in each no problem they said!!! What a joke!!! Their are eight of us this is the first review. Never again!!! We will all make our own reviews!!!

Good staff. Good views. Scuzzy location. Although the homeless man alongside the parking lot was very friendly and helped me find my way to Little Italy, which is walkable. That is the good. Bad– no fridges or microwaves. Small rooms. Older building. Really weird driveway to enter and leave by. But the price was right, hence the «okayness». We slept. We had an overpriced buffet n the morning. We conquered.

What a dump. AVOID this hotel, there is a Motel 6 next door that can do a better job on all fronts.
The photos are deceitful showing «City View», the free continental breakfasts costs $ 15.00 per person… WTF?! The dirty swimming pool is in the parking lot.
Carpet was dirty and stained, tub was clogged and not draining correctly. You wind up standing in 6″ of water when you are finished with your shower.
Valet is mandatory $ 30.00 per night, EVEN for handicap placard holders, in the handicap spaces. Per CA DMV, this isn’t even legal. What are these people thinking? They use the handicapped spaces for temporary valet parking of vehicles.
The valet parking attendants are incompetent, rude and think it is funny when your vehicle is damaged due to their ineptness.
These guys will gouge you, and trick you into paying for stuff on every possible opportunity.
They pre charge your credit card for incidentals that you may or may not use. Every day was another charge on the card from $ 100 to $ 275 in addition to your room rate, EVEN when you are not adding any services, or incidentals. WTH?! Who does business like this?
The hotel staff, and the valet staff will go to great lengths to shuck responsibility of anything to do with the service, and their errors. Incredible.
One ray of light in all of this is the professional and understanding efforts of staffer, Kailey. Thank you. You deserve better than to deal with the crap from this dump.

I want to start off by saying that I can’t compliment the staff enough at this hotel. They were beyond awesome and made us feel right at home. Everyone that worked there was very friendly and constantly displaying positive energy. The employees of this hotel looked happy to be there and seemed like they actually loved their job.
The breakfast was really good and when I wanted to sleep in, the person working the breakfast area went out of their way to find my husband a box so he could bring food up to our room to me so I was able to have breakfast after they closed it down.
The ONLY reason I didn’t give this hotel 5 stars is bc the pool was small and misleading from the photos and my husband wasn’t a huge fan of paying $ 30 a day for valet parking but it was convenient. I do wish that they served food later than 9pm at the downstairs bar too but other than those 3 things, this place was EXCELLENT and we will be going back and staying there on our next visit to San Diego.

This hotel is completely adequate. I would stay here again if the price was right but I can’t say it wowed me.
High points: staff friendliness & helpfulness, very comfortable beds, free wi-​fi, clean room, shuttle to and from the airport, close to Little Italy, and we happened to catch their once-​a-​week free apps and beer in the bar.
Low points: located right off a highway ramp, small workout room, no hot tub. One of the elevators was down for maintenance so there was a bit of a wait, but the staff communicated well about it. I can deal with those things because the essentials were all there!

Nikka you are awesome (supervisor), and to all the staff here at Four Points Sheraton in downtown San Diego, you are all Rock Stars! I can’t thank you enough for your gracious hospitality, and for your WORLD CLASS SERVICE during our business stay with you. You’ve made us all feel at home.
This Sheraton has an in-​house restaurant with full breakfast, dinner and full bar. They also provided room service, and the staff here are genuinely very helpful. I really love how it feels very homey. There is fresh coffee available at the lobby till noon or in your room, complimentary water bottle, and valet parking is just fantastic. Rooms are spacious and very comfortable, and if you happen to be on the 15^th floor, you will get an awesome view. Location is right next to Little Italy (downtown), and only a quick 10 minutes walk. Best of all, they have a complimentary shuttle to and from San Diego International Airport.
This is by far, the best customer service (phenomenal service) that I’ve traveled and stayed in during my business trip so far this year. If you get a chance to stay in San Diego, ask your company or book your next stay here.
