Specialties
Pure Flamenco teaches Classical flamenco, which is the style most frequently performed by Spanish flamenco dance companies. It is danced largely in a proud and upright way. Unlike the more gitano influenced flamenco, there is little movement of the hips, the body is tightly held and the arms are long, like a ballet dancer.
My main focus is technique. Once you master your technique, you can easily pick up any choreography. I strongly believe that there is no point in learning choreography, if you are not prepared to execute it properly.

History
Established in 2014.
Flamenco has been a part of my life since the day I was born. I come from a Spanish family, (you can tell by name: María del Mar) and Flamenco is a passion I inherited from my mother and her mother. I started dancing when I was 12 and have not stopped since.
After being a student, teacher and Company member of Instituto Real Flamenco in Monterrey, México for more than 20 years, I have now my own Flamenco dance studio in San Diego.

Overall experience: 24 years of training and 17 years of teaching Flamenco.
I started my dance training in 1992 at the age of 12 under Betty Villarreal at Instituto Real Flamenco in Monterrey, Mexico. By 1998, I was already teaching beginner flamenco classes, and became a member of the Institute’s Company.
From 2006 to the present date, I have continued my formal training by studying with masters of flamenco in order to offer the best flamenco classes to my students.
