Planned Parenthood Kearny Mesa Center

This location is the absolute best. There is a usual long wait time but what do you expect? Less than an hour in and out. The staff is always respectful and treats everyone amazing. I wish more people understood what a blessing this place is. Keep up the great work!

Had a great experience at this location as well as Mira Mesa here in San Diego. Wonderful staff; very kind and patient; ask very thorough questions to make sure you get the best care possible. Unfortunately sometimes I call to schedule appointments and I get the rudest receptionists from different areas which then transfer me then to the nice people in the actual clinics. I just got off the phone with this woman named Kimberly and she gave me such an inaccurate information claiming that all clinics close at 3 o’clock. Which is absolutely so far from the truth, I just don’t understand why these people work to pick up phone calls if they’re going to treat people like shit. Absolutely inexcusable behavior. I definitely recommend the online option to make appointments, DocASAP. It’s fast, efficient, and thorough. 100% recommend!

I have never had to wait longer than 15 mins past an appointment time at any other PPH medical office. I waited over an hour and a half past the time I was scheduled and I find that impressively ridiculous, specially since all I needed was a birth control refill. When I inquired at the front desk why everyone with an appointment had been waiting over an hour and a half the lady at the front desk she stated it was due to a «new flow system» they had started. The front desk should advise patients of the wait at their check in time. When I was finally called to the back I asked the MA why they had such a long wait time. Her response was simply that they were just really busy at that location specially after lunch. So what was the front desk talking about. I will say the MA and the PA were fast and efficient. But do not go to the PPH in Kearny Mesa with an appointment unless you have time to waste since they have no obvious sense of how to make a medical office run smoothly.

I used to go to the Broadway Chula Vista pph & it’s horrible the workers a rude. This is my third time coming to this location & I love it ! They have snacks, movie playing, and water! My check ups are pretty fast I hardly have to wait. Katy I believe her name was amazing she helped me get in & out. Didn’t have me waiting or having me go back to the lobby! I recommend this pph it’s pretty fast or maybe you’ll have a little of a wait but hey everybody has to wait ! I definitely will be coming back to this location. :)

This place takes forever!!! All of the clinicians are behind the counter talking about their personal lives! So unprofessional. You’d think if they got to actually working, I wouldn’t be in the waiting room STILL after 1.5hours after my appointment time. Would recommend another location for sure. Not a way I wanted to spend my weekend

Honestly I’m not sure why there are a lot of negative reviews but I can say when I went, I had a very great experience ESPECIALLY since I am used to going to the Chula Vista location. By the way, the Chula Vista location is the WORST planned parenthood ever. It is poorly operated, super ghetto, and the wait lines are soooo long it’s painful even with appointments. This clairemont location was very clean and everyone was very friendly. There was of course a wait time but it was not painfully agonizing like the Chula Vista one. Anyways the doctor who helped me was a Filipino lady and she explained my new BC pills I was switching to, which I am NOT used to btw. (The Chula Vista location never explained shit) I’m definitely glad I discovered this PP, even if I have to make the drive out, it’s worth it.

You know, I wanted to think Planned Parenthood is an amazing place to go for support and women’s health issues.
I’ve been to Planned Parenthood twice with serious complaints about right abdominal pain and they have done nothing besides a cursory pelvic exam.
First time it was «everything looks normal, just take some ibuprofen» and they didn’t bother to call or send me notice of my pap test results. Second time it was «oh, women are supposed to get pap tests only every 3 years now.» And concerning my pain and bloating I was basically told, «I’m not going to do an ultrasound today. Maybe its a cyst, but thats normal because all women get those at some point. Maybe you have IBS. A lot of women get IBS. Are you eating right? You’re too skinny. Maybe you have appendicitis even though you don’t have a fever. Just remember to go to the ER if the pain gets worse. » The pain didn’t get worse… it went away and I was largely asymptomatic.
Three months later, I suddenly bled out internally and collapsed unconscious within minutes from a large hemorrhagic ovarian cyst. At that point I did go to the ER. It was the most painful experience of my life and put my life in danger.
Thanks Planned Parenthood… zero stars for you. The doctors in the ER inquired about my medical history and suggested you were irresponsible for not throughly examining my abdominal pain and at least doing an ultrasound.
Furthermore, I had complained about feeling like I had a systemic infection and you ignored it and refused to do a blood test. First thing they discovered in the ER was that I had an infection… by taking a blood sample.
You simply were not there for me when I needed your services and you made me feel uncomfortable about my body.
My suggestion to Unilocalers is to do a little extra work and look up a real women’s health clinic. There are some really good ones out there that actually care and don’t have ridiculous waiting room times.

This place sucks. I have been going to PP since I was 16 because I believed in what they are trying to do for women but I have had enough. Not only did I get the worst treatment from the male nurse that was working there that OBVIOUSLY didn’t want to be there. I also got shitty shitty service from the male worker checking me in. ON TOP OF THAT, ever since I have gotten insurance I have been treated like trash by everyone that works at PP. It should not matter if you have insurance or not going there was nice for me I enjoyed it and the PP schedule better a-​lines with my work schedule. I went in the weekend to get an implant and after a couple of weeks getting my authorization together by my doctor I went in Saturday to find out that PP didnt have it on file. The worked then convinced me that if I was sure I got it that it should «all be fine» and told me that it would be ok to get the procedure still. I am now trying to figure out if in fact all is well because after dealing with that man I dont think I trust his judgement for shit and should of never done the procedure. This place blows and I am never coming here or any other PP again.

There are two aspects I’m reviewing… The Planned Parenthood center at Kearny Mesa and the nurse practitioner, Stephanie Adamson, who works there — both 5 stars.
I’ve been to a few Planned Parenthood clinics over the years and this one is by far the cleanest, most organized, polite, informative, and helpful of all of them. There are times I’ve waited a half hour past my appointment (when it’s busy), however, in light of all clinics out there I’ve learned that this is to be expected with the increasing influx of new patients.
I have been helped by several people at the clinic and I have always felt at the very least, respected and more often than not, find that they are eager to help in any way possible. I’ve been seen for my annuals, suspected pregnancy, a UTI, and they were also the first to detect a fibroid tumor. All care has been professional.
In particular, I want to highlight the care of Stephanie Adamson, an incredible nurse practitioner who came to my rescue when I was struggling to get the referral I needed to be seen for my fibroid condition. Previously, I had been referred out to another clinic and then a specialist at a different clinic but when it was clear that I’d need an expert at a hospital for surgery, I needed a referral to go to UCSD.
I tried getting all my medical records from the various clinics but found the process extremely convoluted, experienced several mix-​ups and delays… And all this just so I could wait two more months for an appointment at my assigned medical provider, Linda Vista Health Clinic (a terrible clinic), to see yet another doctor to finally get my referral. But while at Planned Parenthood Kearny Mesa, I learned I could potentially go straight to UCSD without any further mess. Stephanie Adamson was the person who made it happen.
Stephanie diligently made sure I had all the right forms, double checked them to ensure they were properly completed, confirmed that they had been faxed and received, sent all my records to the medical director for review, received permission to make the referral, checked for insurance authorization and sent it over to UCSD.
To keep me updated on the process, she didn’t hesitate to call me and worked over the phone to complete everything. She was very exact about what needed to be done, patiently listened, answered all my questions and her positive attitude brought relief and assurance that I had a pro on my side. Medical stuff can be a nightmare sometimes but this lady is amazing and she got the job done in very quick time.
In summary, people that love their job go above and beyond the call of duty and this couldn’t describe Stephanie Adamson at Planned Parenthood Kearny Mesa more — thank you, thank you, Stephanie… I could not have done this without you!

Very nice facility with a great staff! They are really there to help and want you to feel as comfortable as possible when you’re there.

In November, I got pregnant. My body was not cooperative and a pregnancy test didn’t show anything for three weeks. Before that time, though, the stress and wonderment was killing me, so I went to Planned Parenthood for a test. I waited exactly 18 days, as my Fertility Awareness Method book suggests, so I don’t feel I was being impatient or over-​eager.
It came back negative. No huge deal, it happens, right? Well, I asked for a blood test and they refused.
Why would they refuse me though? It says specifically on their website for Kearny Mesa’s branch:
«We will only draw blood for a pregnancy test if it’s medically needed or upon patient’s request.» See below if you don’t believe me:
Well, I DID request. Per their website, they should have done it, but they failed to do so.
They were also incredibly disrespectful, because I WANTED TO KEEP MY CHILD. They looked at me and spoke to each other like I was some kind of glowing, radioactive unicorn and whispered to the other nurse, «She does NOT want to terminate.» The other nurse turned and scoped me out from head to toe.
From what I’ve heard, abortion is not /​that/​common, is it? Did I look to be an unfit future mother, with my messy bun and Ugg boots? Goodness forbid.
I felt their treatment was unjust, rude, and completely against what their own website states. Waiting to find out that I was indeed pregnant were some of the most stressful three weeks in my life. Thankfully now I am 19 weeks pregnant and am benefiting from good care through the military so I don’t have to go back and deal with these guys.
I added one extra star because they were playing The Princess Bride when I waited.

No respect for the patient’s time whatsoever.
Moreover, patient’s comfort and dignity either.
You arrive on time and then you spend an hour just to be called in. Next you’re asked by the nurse to undress and wait another 45 minutes to be seen by a doctor… Naked…
Shall I mention the extra charges they add up beyond those covered by insurance?

I love the staff here. Very concerned and helpful group of women that are knowledgeable. They’re caring, understanding and patient with women under stress or unsure of their concerns or condition. I recommend this location over all others any day. This will be my permanent location to come for any of my womanly needs.

I had no Idea there was a PP clinic literally 4 minutes from my house.
A. Thank you PP 1800 number
B. Tho I have Kaiser insurance and the website said the pharmacy was open Saturday mornings and was not… id much rather use PP for any and all services I can.
C. The morning after pill I just purchased OTC with a super kind, helpful and patient (with my 2 kids being mildly boisturous in the lobby, playing with other waiting patients who were also sweet) staff was not only LESS than the last time I bought from PP MV, it was less than closed Kaiser and HALF what it would’ve been at CVS.
D. LAST, but certainly not least, Goonies was playing in the waiting area. I said to the kids, just sit and watch this… it’ll change your life.

My appointment was at 12:30, waited for 45minutes but thats okay. Because this location is very clean and staff here are very sweet & professional. The other locations are ghetto and some staff are very impolite.

I adore Planned Parenthood.
That being said, I hate this location. I make an appointment every time I need a visit, and they keep me waiting between 30 and 90 minutes each time. This does not include the time I spend waiting in the exam rooms.
The worst is when I make an appointment, arrive there before many more walk-​ins show up, and end up being the last person to leave with all the staff sitting in the front office and waiting for me to leave. This specifically has happened twice out of the maybe dozen times I’ve been to this location.
I live about 5 minutes away from the KM location, but I now prefer to drive up to Mira Mesa, where I wait at most 20 minutes for an appointment or 40 minutes as a walk-​in.
If you need to know about how good their services are and how they treat patients, they are excellent at asking the right questions and keeping everyone safe with confidentiality and giving a bunch of helpful information.

Personally, I’d like to consider myself a free thinking, open minded individual who isn’t afraid to assert her sexuality, but most slighty misogynistic guys with inferiority complexes and egos would prefer to objectify and label me as an «submissive and easy Asian babe cum slut to throw away after the first use even though it was hinted at a potential friendship» and call it a day.
That’s what I appreciate about Planned Parenthood. Regardless of the number of sexual partners, interactions, and labels imposed, everyone deserves to get treatment in a non judgmental, attentive and informative way. (Did anybody hear the joke about someone asking if women can orgasm from tampons? Sounds like a Mitt Romney diary entry.)
Hopefully, Planned Parenthood will be here to stay. I certainly like them better than how UCSD Medical Center makes me feel.

Came here yesterday. Made an appointment the day before for 3:50. I was out of there by 4:15! They were very fast which was surprising. And all the employees were friendly.
Very convenient location for me.

I never thought I’d be writing a bad review on Planned Parenthood simply because I’ve always admired their work and thought they were the best thing that happened to this country. I’ve been going to this particular location for many years and even though there’s always waiting (after all it’s a free clinic) it’s never been as bad as it was today. And to think I was planning on giving them a big, fat donation.
My appointment was at 12 o’clock, I went in earlier hoping I’d get in earlier because I had a LOT of things to get done and was already in a rush. I was INSANELY stressed out. After I checked in, I took a seat — about 25 – 30 mins my name got called and I ended up with a medical assistant who was new and still training which is usually fine but for someone who needs to get in and get out that day I didn’t have time to watch the other more experienced medical assistant go over the new employee’s mistakes step by step in front of me.
When they were done with the questions they told me to go back out in the waiting room til one of the rooms open up. It was already 2 o’clock when they called me back in (do the math, from 11:45 to 2:00 sharp — I’m not even exaggerating!). They put me in a room, told me to strip from the waist down. At 2:40 I’m still in the room by myself, no doctors, no nurses letting me know what’s up and why the long ass wait. At first I thought they forgot about me, then I thought is anyone even working today? And lastly I thought the doctor probably wasn’t even in the clinic at that point, otherwise I have no idea what that whole thing was all about.
I was so PISSED OFF, I put my clothes back on and left. Two of the medical assistants that were just sitting outside the room and giggling looked at me like I was crazy. This whole experience to me was so HORRIBLE, I felt like I was in HELL being punished for all the bad things I’ve ever done in my life. I was absolutely starving, I was thirsty (they should at least offer you water for waiting your life away in their clinic). This is what people who have no money have to put up with.
The people working there should communicate with patients more. If someone would’ve just explained to me there was only one doctor or the doctor went to lunch or whatever, I wouldn’t be as upset as I was. Sure, it’s a free clinic and they don’t necessarily care about the people coming to get help but hey, we’re still PEOPLE. My experience with this clinic was so bad, I’m not looking forward to going back any time this year. But when I do come back, I’ll be trying a different location.
