Horrible service from Dentist, very nice staff. Stay away from this office, why risk your dental health.
I went for the possibility of some professional dental work based upon a recommendation. As it so happened, I went to the wrong dentist, my mistake. I had a more immediate need which would have instilled confidence prior to more extensive work.
I had several new crowns which had been dislodged/​fallen off due to circumstances.
I Requested that they be re attached/​glued back on if possible during my visit. The Dentist complied and re affixed them.
I was at the front desk making payment when I felt something unusual with my tongue. I asked for leave to go to the bathroom and look into the mirror. I was aghast at what I saw. My two center front upper teeth were completely misaligned, not even close to where they should have been placed.
I then went back to the front desk and asked to speak with the Dentist. He said/​insisted that he positioned the crowns as there were originally designed to be placed. I asked how that could possibly be since with what he had done would be extremely embarrassing, socially or just generally in public. The teeth were placed in severe misalignment. I insisted that the crowns be removed immediately so that they could be properly installed. The dentist took me into the room and managed to remove one of the crowns, the other wouldn’t budge and there was concern for loosening the tooth by exerting too much force. He said that I would just have to wait until the crown just came off and then re attach. I was upset and went not the front desk and stated that I wasn’t going to pay for the work. The girl agreed and said my card would be credited for the charges. The Dentist continued to persist with positing his position of non fault and that he had aligned/​installed the crowns properly. I stated there was obviously no constructive dialogue forthcoming and that I should just leave and so I did.
I’ve had several other Dentists evaluate the problem and all concur that the crowns were obviously installed improperly with severe misalignment. The only solution now is to cut the crown off and have a new one made.

Great dental office with modern equipment and friendly and professional staff.

I must say, I have never been so pleased with a dentist office. Not only professional but consistently professional. This office and their staff are so welcoming every time. They are genuine, knowledgeable, friendly and diligent. They have taken care of my dental needs in more than a few emergencies and every time they take care of me. I don’t have to come back a zillion times just to get a few things done. They work with you financially and don’t charge an arm and a leg. The office is always very clean and while waiting you are entertained with an abundance of up-​to-​date magazines and your own TV to watch while in the chair. I will never go anywhere else. Thank you PB smiles! All my shopping around for the right dentist office has finally paid off!

You know that uneasy feeling that washes over you when a cheesy car salesman tries to sell you a lemon? Or that nagging feeling that something is quite not right? Those are the feelings that I get from PB Smiles Dentistry. They upsell you on everything, and they make it seem their recommendations are the only options, or all your teeth will fall off. I went there twice, and both times, I left feeling very unsettled and perturbed.
Once they finish taking your xrays, they send the dentists in to reprimand you for not taking care of your teeth. I felt like a child being scolded because the dog ate my homework. Once they finish telling you what you are doing wrong, they send in the billing specialist, who gives your option. Yes, just one option. She smiles at you and doesn’t really offer alternatives to their pricey, highly «recommended» procedures. You’re left there awkwardly to either choose their option or leave. She gives me the heebie jeebies.
Once you have no choice but to pick this option, they send in the hygienist, who seems a bit nice. Once she starts cleaning your teeth though, it hurts like hell; she is not gentle at all.
My insurance is supposed to cover all my bi-​annual dental cleanings, but because they charge x, y, z for medically unnecessary procedures, you’re left paying $$$.
I found a much better dental office in place of PB smiles. The dentist told me that all those procedures were not necessary. The hygienist was super gentle. I twitched a bit when she started cleaning my teeth because I was expecting the worse, but she was awesome! I left not paying a cent because they billed it to my insurance, and I still had clean teeth.
PB Smiles is a rip off! Stay away!

Hands down the best dentist group on the coast! I spent the last 5 years with (un-​named dentist) who has a 1.5 star rating for good reason. This entire office, from the dentists to the hygienists to the assistants and front office staff are by far the nicest, most professional group of people in this industry. I got turned on to them by a colleague, and was about to start a pretty intensive maintenance program when I got hit by an infection in a molar. Got me in asap, no judgmental BS… just straight from the hip conversations about what was needed now, how it would help what the long term plan was… and NO pressure or upsell. The dentist isn’t always most folks’ first choice to spend an afternoon, but if you must… you can’t go wrong.

Best experience ever. Easy going fit me in for an emergency and took care of me. Front office and auxiliary staff is great ! Would recommend and what a life saver.

I hate the dentist. I had A LOT of work done when I was younger and now that I’m an adult every time I go it always seems like bad news. The last dentist I went to wanted to replace ALL of my fillings, needless to say, I never went back. So I’ve been putting off finding a new dentist for probably over 3 or 4 years now. (Yikes) I was referred here by a friend who sells dental equipment and he visits tons of offices all over the west coast, so I trusted his opinion. I had a great experience with PB smiles. First off, the staff are great and the dentist I had was very clear, knowledgable, kind and very respectful to his staff and myself. They’re open on Saturdays which is awesome. They explained all my options and pricing for different treatments and didn’t pressure me either way. We settled on a couple necessary procedures and even did a few of them on the spot that same day. It seemed very quick and painless, I couldn’t believe how it just seemed very routine and no big deal. Plus, they have directtv and you can watch whatever you want the whole time. Haha the doctor even fixed some of my old fillings free of charge as they had changed shape a bit and we’re not level with my teeth anymore, he was honest in telling me they were still fully functional and did not need to be replaced. I scheduled my 6 month cleaning with them before leaving, I finally found a dentist I will continue to go to!

I usually hate going to the dentist but Dr. Arian made the process incredible, better than my previous visits with other dentists. He commits to making your appointment as comfortable as possible as well as making sure your never in too much pain. The work done on my teeth was priceless. Definitely referring friends and family

I am Irish and new to San Diego I didn’t have dental insurance. I woke up at 5am on Thursday morning with a severe throbbing in my tooth. I knew I needed to see a dentist. PB Smiles was the third dentist I rang but the most receptive to my situation. I explained that I needed an emergency appointment, the receptionist was really helpful and said to come in straight away. When I arrived she quickly got me set up and explained each of the forms and why I was signing them.
I was then assigned a dentist, I’m unsure of his name but again he was incredibly nice and made me feel at ease.
The lady who took my X-​rays was very accommodating when taking the X-​rays as my mouth was pretty sore.
I have now gotten the pain in my tooth sorted and gotten dental insurance. I will make sure to return here shall I need any dental assistance!

I was looking for a dentist after starting to experience sensitivity in the upper-​right portion of my mouth. I found this place through my insurance’s website, and after doing some research on Unilocal and Google reviews I decided to schedule an appointment.
During my appointment, it became clear I had some extensive dental work coming. It wasn’t a big surprise, as it was time to replace some very old and large fillings I had done almost 20 years ago (those normally start to fail after 5 – 10 years). This is something I had already done on some other teeth at other places (I have quite a few fillings), so I was quite familiar with the procedure.
I won’t lie — Initially, the cost seemed high compared to previous work I’ve done. However, the staff was extremely accommodating, and after talking to my insurance and discussing the various options with the staff, we found a plan that was very agreeable with me. Yes, as others have mentioned, they do try to upsell some of their branded stuff that costs more than the standard solutions. Those are not things that you don’t need, but they are pricier than the alternatives. As a small business owner myself, I completely understand. You just have to be aware of your options and be willing to explore the different products they offer in more depth.
As for the actual treatment — it was worth every penny. I was treated by Dr. Salehpour, which was extremely personable and professional. I had 2 crowns, a filling and microbial decontamination (deep cleaning of the gums with high pressure water and laser) done, all in one 3.5 hour long session. I had staff rotating on me, taking x-​rays, doing prep-​work and the additional cleaning. Since preparing the crowns takes around 1.5 hours (which they do onsite, in a very cool machine you can see in the hallway), they planned it so there was no down time and everything went by extremely smoothly.
As much as no one likes to get any dental work done, I experienced the least discomfort of any dentist visit I ever had (and I’ve had quite a few). This mostly thanks to the skill of the staff, but also thanks to the cutting edge equipment they have. No expense was spared on this office, and it shows in the actual treatment. I can almost say I had the «pleasure» of visiting.
I’m writing this review about 5 hours after the end of the treatment, and I’m already completely pain and discomfort free, even after having had such extensive work done. I have nothing but good things to say about this office, and feel like I’ve found my dentist for years to come.

I found this dentist through my dental insurance and called them right after I read all the Unilocal reviews.
I am very, very impressed with this office. The office is very clean and the front desk staff is personable, respectful, and extremely kind. I showed up early for my appointment expecting a lot more to-​do work on my side of things but realized that all was electronic that I had previously completed when they emailed me the appointment confirmation.
I’ve only had one dentist my whole life outside of PB Smiles so I was nervous going into the office. I was able to sit down with Dr. Luu and we discussed my dental history. He is very kind and we got along so well! I was led into the X-​Ray room where the tech was gentle with the whole process. Dr. Luu was there to watch the x-​rays and took additional pictures to assure that the cavity he saw was actually there and it wasn’t a mistake on the scan.
Dr. Luu walked me through the whole process of the cleaning (although very familiar with this portion) and the filling/​potential root canal. He brought the receptionist in to walk me through the financial aspect of what was to be done so I was fully aware of what was to happen between insurance and personally. He took pictures of my teeth along the way so I could see the process and his actions and to know I was getting the best care. He was gentle, respectful, and kept me calm when he noticed I was becoming tense.
My care at PB Smiles Dentistry has been incredible and I can’t say enough positive things about the staff and facility. I will continue to receive care here and will refer friends and family to this same business.

Things they did well:
–Staff was very nice. The receptionists, dental hygienist and dentist were all very friendly.
–Very clean office and exam rooms.
–New technology. The x rays they had apparently emit 90% less radiation, which is cool.
–They are open on Saturday! This is huge for me, since it’s very hard for me to get off work.
–The procedure was very quick. I had an appointment at 9 and the x rays, consultation and wisdom teeth removal was all done by 10:30. Hopefully that doesn’t mean they’re less thorough! But it was nice to not have to do a lot of sitting around an waiting!
–I came in for a consultation and they were able to fit in a surgery that day, which was really convenient
Areas of improvement:
–I wish someone had sat down with me and gone over the effects of the nitrous oxide, what to expect and answered any of my questions. They just came in and put the mask on me.
–The woman in charge of benefits put in the wrong code and tried to charge me over $ 800, luckily I brought my benefit pamphlet with me and was charged the correct amount of $ 470. I would suggest doing the same, so you can match what they’re charging you with the correct amount.

Staff is kind but their first priority is to make money and not necessarily help the patient. I had indicated that its been a few years since my last checkup and that is where i went wrong.
All of a sudden, I needed an appointment to get 3 cavities filled and possibly 2 crowns and a possible route canal. Not to mention I had to remove my wisdom teeth (which all had came in)… Again, I had just came in for a cleaning…
According to them, I was in the medium stages of gingivitis and they tried to charge me $ 600+ dollars for a deep cleaning with some fancy laser irrigation. Insurance covered NONE of it. I opted out of the laser irrigation after fighting with them over it and just got the deep cleaning because the hygienist really looked worried. $ 225 later, I was left with all 4 sides of my mouth completely numbed up and a cleaning that hurt like a mother****** … The hygienist wanted me to come back for the irrigation later and the hygienist was amendment afterwards about putting me on a regimen when I see her every 3 months.
This place is very modern and very nice but somebody is paying for it all … that someone is you. Beware…

Let me preface this by saying my beloved dentist of many years sold her practice which is how I ended up here…
The first time I visited PB Smiles I was impressed — the staff was extremely nice and the equipment was state-​of-​the-​art. They took A LOT of x-​rays (and my blood pressure) and I admit, I was a bit worried about who was paying for all of this latest and greatest technology. Was my HMO going to cover it?
Well, yes and no. My belief about this practice is that they UPSELL you on things you may or may not need. That visit they got me out-​of-​pocket for a pre-​cavity that needed to be filled. Pre– cavity, eh? Well, perhaps… But I have been getting bi-​annual cleanings my whole life and floss every day so usually I get a lot of praise from my dentists regarding my dental care. Not from these folks.
Fast forward 6 months to my next cleaning…
This time they wanted to upsell me a Fluoride Rinse at the tune of about $ 40 out of pocket. I declined and bought ACT and Crest mouthwash at the drugstore afterwards for $ 10. I also had the most aggressive cleaning by the male dentist that day. I have never had a painful cleaning like that. I was not happy. And now I am on to them, because I’ve been visiting dentists my whole life without all these out of pocket add-​ons and upsells.
So, they lost me as a patient and I just found a wonderful new dentist I can TRUST in Kearny Mesa! (and guess what? No issues at that cleaning! Just praise about my healthy gums. And a normal amount of X-​rays without all the bells and whistles!)

You will get the A-​Team at PB Smiles Dentistry. The staff is completely amazing at what they do, and also they are so friendly. It was my first time going to this location. I was in there for a few hours to get my metal fillings replaced with clear fillings, along with a deep cleaning. Within those hours, it felt like a PB happy hour socializing with the staff while they work.
THE ATMOSPHERE:
Inside the office is huge with state of the art technology. Very clean and bright unlike other dentist offices I’ve been to where it’s dim, small and claustrophobic. There are TVs (with DirectTV) in every patient room so that you can watch shows while the staff works on your teeth. This is way better than staring at a poster on the ceiling or a waterfall/​jungle/​beach wallpaper! For new patients, instead of filling out paperwork of your personal and insurance information, you can complete that info on one of their computers. This location is so high-​tech! :)
THE STAFF:
Dr. Maysam, my dentist, is very personable, and I can tell he likes to get to know his new patients before getting to teeth business. He asked about my teeth history, and also what I do for living. It’s great to have a dentist establish a good relationship with his/​her patients right from the start. During my teeth filling session, there weren’t any awkward silence. We both joked around how hungry we were and talked about food as I was watching the Cooking Channel while he worked. Dr. Maysam did a terrific job on my teeth as I didn’t feel any pain or discomfort.
Dana, my hygienist, was very gentle when cleaning my teeth. She made sure I was comfortable throughout the process. During that time, we talked about family, life and joked around which there was a lot of laughter coming out of my room along with the cleaning tool noises. Dana was very helpful in demonstrating how to floss correctly and also the importance of gum health. She is very passionate of her profession and strives for her patients’ teeth and gums live a long an healthy life!
Jessica took my x-​rays and help assist Dr. Mayson with my teeth fillings. She is an absolute joy to chat with while I was in complete awe of all the cool X-​Ray technology around me.
Kimberly was a huge help in getting my insurance situated. Apparently, there was a mix up on my insurance’s dental plan. Kimberly was so patient as it took me awhile (and a few calls and a quick drive back home) to gather the information she needed to set my insurance correctly in the system. In the end, we were both relieved that I didn’t have to pay out of pocket and laughed about the whole situation.
OVERALL:
PB Smiles Dentistry is now my go-​to dentist, and I will recommend my friends to get their teeth worked on here. I won’t be dreading to go to future appointments because I know I’ll be taken care of very well and have a good time seeing the staff again. Not only do they provide excellent service, the team will make your dental experience an enjoyable one.

I did a bit of research before scheduling my appointment. I wish Unilocal told the truth though… Walking into the office everything is very clean with new equipment and a friendly staff. The initial x-​rays were fine, but the sit down with the dentist is where it began. I was curious why they were asking if I was financially stable and what my occupation was… I immediately thought they were going to suggest out of pocket services to make more money.
The dentist came in after reviewing the x-​rays and suggested additional services for the day, which I agreed to one but declined the more expensive.
During the regular teeth cleaning the dentist slipped with the drill, not once, but 3x and punctured my gums. I have holes to show for it now, along with sensitivity. No sorry or anything, just more water spraying into my face. It was very uncomfortable and days later still does not feel right.
I would never go back, let alone leave them a positive review. The only reason for 2 stars is the friendly staff, and modern equipment.

PB Smiles is the SHIZZ! My experience here far exceeded all previous dentist visits and I’m glad to finally have a dentist I can trust.
Dr. Maysam was very straightforward and professional. No hidden agendas or up-​selling. He told me exactly what was up and took the time to go over each option and cost comprehensively.
After my previous experience, I had lost a lot of faith in the integrity of dentistry. Dr. Maysam restored that. My invoice was ¼ the amount I would have been billed had I gone with the other dentist at La Jolla Dental Arts. On top of that, everything I wanted done was all done in one sitting and it was pretty painless. No need for multiple appointments!
I no longer fear going to the dentist. Thank you PB Smiles for making me smile for the first time after leaving a dentist office :)

PB smiles was great to me today. The office was beautiful and new. There is off street parking in the back for free.
I saw Dr. Woo (Loo? Unsure, he isn’t on the website). He was polite, it seemed like I was talking more with a friend than a dentist. It was nice to have everything not be so clinical. I recently moved to the area and need an implant. I let him know that I was looking at price options here and back home, and he was very understanding. He gave me an estimate and did not pressure me to make a decision at all. His exam was thorough.
Dana was my hygenist. She was hilarious! Both her and the dentist gave me a mirror to look at what they were doing so they could explain things in detail to me. Due to some mild gum disease, Dana explained the very best way for me to floss.
Corinna was the X-​ray tech. She took her time and gave me breaks when needed. She was as personable as the first too. Again, it was like hanging with a friend rather than getting X-​rays at the dentist.
Kimberly was the receptionist/​finance person. She presented me with my price options for different cleanings, a retainer, and my implant. She offered me a print out so I could keep the prices for my records, which I appreciated.
Overall, they make an awesome team, you can tell they all enjoy working there and enjoy working with each other. Though the dentist office isn’t my favorite place to visit, they made it as enjoyable as they could have.
