Nobel Court Apartments

It could be worse. and it’s certainly better now than it was in January when I moved in.
I wouldn’t call this place «luxury» (it calls itself that), but it’ll do. The worst part about living here is the awkward students I run into in the hallways and elevators. If you want to share a cordial «Hello» with your neighbors then live elsewhere. No one says hi back. It isn’t air conditioned, and living on the top floor is a bit rough in the summer. Be prepared to buy an AC unit and pay the electric bill… or be prepared to sweat. The prices are astronomical, but this is UTC… that’s to be expected.
The best part about living at Nobel is the people who work here. Most of the leasing agents are disturbingly nice (I’m looking at you Courtney, Carlie, and Maranda). Carlie and Sherman went above and beyond to help me find a parking spot that I can get my car into (perhaps I’m a remedial parker). The maintenance team is awesome and quick to respond. These fine people almost make me want to renew my lease. Almost. Leaving will be bittersweet.
Live here if you like to keep to yourself, sweat in the summer, pay a lot of money, have a pet or two, and if you own a small car.
Don’t live here if you like hardwood floors, want upgraded appliances, like to chat it up with your neighbors, or own an SUV.

I rented with girlfriends. It was awful!
FIRST and FOREMOST this apt complex will BURN DOWN TO THE GROUND!!! Many lives will be lost because the leasing office policy on smoking.
There was a fire just before we left. It had 4 fire engines so it was really bad and the smoke was terrible. There is FIRE AND SMOKE DAMAGE so you do NOT want to live there. I thought the whole building was going to burn down.
It was very SCARY, people were running, screaming and crying.
The leasing office allows people to smoke inside and outside of the apartment, balconies, patios, etc… There is a constant flow of cigarette smoke especially before you go to sleep.
Then there are the falling cigarettes below in the dry brush. California is in a drought! It’s super dry! This whole apt complex will go up in FLAMES because the leasing office allows smoking and the smokers drop the lit cigarettes off the balconies and patios into the dry brush/​grass.
TRUST ME NOBEL COURTS will BURN DOWN TO THE GROUND if the leasing office continues this smoking policy.
Ok, let’s get to the nasty leasing agents that LIE! The agents told us they were full and could not show us an apartment and that we had to rely on the brochure they had. DO NOT BELIEVE THIS LIE!!!
They have PLENTY of empty units! And when we came to sign the lease we wanted to get a look inside but they told us that they could not do that until we signed the lease and gave them the first month’s rent. ANOTHER LIE!!!
We are all young and inexperienced so we got SCAMMED! Lesson learned! You can look at the inside of an apartment even if you have not signed the lease.
The leasing agents did NOT even show us the underground parking. They said it was just normal parking spots. Then we found out the reason they did not want to show us.
The parking spots are tandem not side by side so there is no way in heck it’s easy to go in and out of the garage without all sorts of headaches. COVER UPs and LIES from the leasing office.
The rooms are super small except for the living room.
If you enjoy bugs crawling on your face and in your ears from time to time you will enjoy living here.
The building is very old from the 1970s and has asbestos falling from the ceiling in the hallways and the units themselves. I hope I don’t have cancer from breathing it in my lungs all these months. It’s really scary. I am reporting this to the health department.
Then there is rotting garbage coming out from the garbage shoot. The sides of garbage shoot have a bacteria laden film that smells awful ²⁴⁄₇ and when it heats up the smell gets even nastier.
Your throat will hurt from breathing the toxic fumes from the garbage shoot. Have they ever cleaned it in 40 years! NOPE!
BTW many smokers throw out their lit cigarettes in the garbage shoots. You can smell them smoldering. Again, this place will burn to the ground sooner rather than later because of the leasing office’s smoking policy.
The elevators break down so get used to using the stairs. If you are the first floor that’s ok but… well you know.
There is no insulation in the building so enjoy the summer if you live on a top floor because you will burn in a hot box. The A/​C does NOT work! They will NOT fix it!
Our refrigerator/​freezer did not work about 30% of the time. Our food would rot because the temperature would drop for no reason. We lost over a thousand dollars worth of food living there over the year. We complained that it was broken and they did nothing!
The leasing office does not care about your experience. The leasing office is not there to help you in any shape, way or form.
There were more than 15 empty units available and that was before the fire. People do not renew their lease after living here, too many problems with the leasing office and the living environment.
I also think people do not want to be burned alive because of the smoking policy. Fires are not fun people!
The leasing office lies about refunding your deposit. Lies about waiving the cleaning fee if you sign a 13 month lease, lies about painting the walls, etc… They will LIE about everything and anything in order for you to sign the lease and to STEAL your money.
Luckily, renter laws favor the renter so go to small claims court to get your deposit back if you got scammed like us.
The leasing office will lose your monthly rental check and say you did not pay your rent then charge you a late fee. SCAM!!! I talked to other neighbors and they all have had it done to them as well. Do NOT fall for their SCAMS!
The leasing office STEALS your packages. UPS or USPS will send an email notification of package delivery to the leasing office, when you go there you find out from them that nothing was delivered. They VIOLATE federal law and STEAL your MAIL!!! That is is F*CKED UP!!!
BTW read the 4 & 5 star reviews with a careful eye. There are tail tell signs that they are FAKE!!!

The only pros are good location and our apt happened to be pretty quiet. Eventually though, the negatives outweighed the positives: We had a few random solicitors knock at our front door, which was worrisome since the building is supposed to be locked. Also there was a car break-​in problem as of last March/​April. Our car was broken into, we saw another car that had just been broken into (glass everywhere) and heard of a third break-​in, all within the span of two weeks. We reported it to the building and heard no follow-​up. This was a few months ago so maybe the problem has cleared up. Lastly, the mail! If your name is not on the lease, your mail will mysteriously vanish and never be delivered, which seems to be a violation of postal service regulations.

I lived here for one year, and the only reason I would give one star is that it has a in-​unit laundry. That’s it, the only good thing here!
Bad things:
1. It was so noisy living here because there is a road literally cutting through Nobel Court, and cars and trucks stop by everyday. Besides, they blow/​clean the leaves early in the morning when everyone is still asleep!
2. There are so many bugs! I’ve lived in other apartments before and I’ve never seen so many bugs! I don’t understand how can they hire people cleaning the corridors everyday but no one killing the bugs?
3. There are molds on the windows. So disgusting!
3. The Property Management Company is so bad. Before we moved out, we talked to the lady in the leasing office, and she said that if we could clean the apartment, then we didn’t need to pay for the cleaning fee. We spent two days cleaning the whole apartment and she kept pointing out some subtle places where we need to clean. Thanks to her «carefulness», we went back and forth to clean this unit three times! Could you imagine how much time and effort we spent on cleaning it? However, it ended up that they were still going to charge us. What’s more ridiculous is that they promised that residents who signed a 13-​month rent won’t need to pay the painting of walls. We did sign a 13-​month rent and paid all the rents before we moved out, but we moved out 6 days earlier than the contract ended. As a result, they said that we were not qualified for the waiver of it. Are you kidding me? I’ve paid all the 13-​month rents! Anyways, I’m not going to live there any more.

Very disappointed in the Property Management Company for Nobel Court. Most management companies know that when you issue a check to all roommates, it can be a headache to get the check cashed or deposited. Multiply that headache by 10 with this situation.
By the time the check was received, all roommates had disbursed accross the county. When I asked if there is a solution to this, the answer was «no, our hands our tied.» I even offered to have all the roommates mail in a notarized letter stating they approve of the check being reissued to one person, but they still didn’t accept.
I understand that rules are rules… however, it seems to me that if this is a reoccuring issue, that they should come up with some kind of addendum that can be signed or an alternate solution, rather than continuing to rob young adults of the minimal money they already have.
If it were my choice, I would find another place to rent from. The president of this management company is just not helpful, compassionate or understanding of uncontrollable circumstances.

I have been at Nobel Court for 1 year. I strongly recommend crossing this one off your list if you are looking for somewhere safe to live. The underground parking garages are really shady. My car was broken into by a drug addict who was later found by the police in a stolen car. There’s a remote control gate but it’s really slow and there are no cameras so don’t be fooled into thinking it is secure down there — it’s much the opposite.
If you’re willing to live with that though, well, the in-​unit laundry is kinda nice.

This place has been nothing but a headache for me. I understand that there are a lot of students who live here but if you are a working professional who works the standard 9 – 5 shift be aware and warned of plenty of noise all night. I have been here for a very short period and have had to call the police on 3 occasions, I called the security and security is 3^rd party who did NOTHING. The apartment/​unit itself is great no issues, very open spacious and clean however, the dissuptive noise that carries on until 3am is a big issue. Drunk UCSD students come stumbling t hrough the apartment at late hours of the night and are beyond loud waking people up from sleep. The worst part is that my car was vandalized and windows completleyu broken into and this is a gated secured garage supposedly. I overheard other residents mentioning random car break ins but this was bad. Of course the people at the leasing office just passed it on to corporate and assumed no liability nor did they offer any kind of help. I spent $ 385 on trying to repair a new window of a car … so far this place has caused me nothing but headaches sleepless nights and now a vandalized car. I am hoping I can break out of this lease and try to find a better living situation. I am so shocked that an area so nice as UTC with mostly students can be such a terrible environment for working professionals.

I’ve only been here for less than a month, but I like it so far.
Pros:
1. Location. There are so many things within walking distance — there’s a Ralph’s about a half a mile away, open 24 hours! Lots of stores and restaurants in the nearby shopping plaza and about a mile away from UTC.
2. Washer and dryer. To be honest, it’s pretty small. I have to do my laundry more often now because I can’t fit as many things, but I can’t complain about the convenience of having one in the unit.
3. Lots of counter space in the bathroom. I love having a big mirror and lots of counter space for all my make up and other toiletries. The vanity lights above the mirror are cute, but it does get pretty hot and i’m pretty sure it uses a lot of electricity.
4. Parking. We only get one assigned parking spot in our one bedroom, even though we both have cars, but I haven’t had problems finding parking in the street or in the open lot. Some spaces in the garage do seem small, but ours is next to a pole and we don’t have to worry about bad parkers on one side, so it was pretty spacious for us. I think you can also buy an extra spot (there are lots of unused spaces) but I don’t think it’s worth it. There are always plenty of open spots around the complex.
EDIT: I guess school is back in session now, and it’s a lot harder to find parking. I’ve seen cars pull up and park on the street and get on the bus ! So now people are taking up parking spots during the day which really sucks.
Cons:
1. BUGS. Lots and lots of bugs. Now I don’t know if it’s just because it’s Summer and there are usually more bugs out, but we’ve gotten at least 20 bug bites between the both of us in the short time that we’ve been here. Our dogs are both on flea meds, but you can always see the little fleas jumping in the grass and its disgusting.
2. Closet space. The closet itself is a decent size, but its the shelving that makes it difficult to share space. It’s probably big enough for one person, but with two people, the space is kind of limited. The shelf itself is made of a cheap wire rack that extends to only ¾ of the closet. We have to keep our clothes in hampers because there’s not enough space for everything.
3. Tiny refrigerator/​freezer. I think I’m as tall as it (I’m 5 feet tall). There’s not that much room to organize things and our freezer didn’t even come with a middle shelf, so we had to buy our own to maximize space.
4. No mail. This probably isn’t a big deal to a lot of people, but I like grocery shopping and flipping through store advertisements every week, and we don’t get any of that here. Of course, we still get our normal mail but what about my coupons?!
EDIT: After posting this, we started getting store advertisements and coupons !! strange coincidence ?! Yay.
Some units are better than others. Ours isn’t upgraded at all and the kitchen needs some major upgrades, but the layout is nice. There are big windows in the living room that give us a nice, cool breeze and our unit is on the first floor so we have a HUGE patio. We honestly don’t need that much space, but it’s nice for our dogs to have extra room to play. We also have a corner unit, so we don’t get as much noise, except for the people upstairs. We can hear every step they take and what they’re watching on TV. We don’t mind it so much, but my dog hates it and he’ll bark every time he hears a step. I can tell you they wake up at 6am everyday.
It’s good for the price. We’re only paying $ 1305 (plus $ 100 each month for pet rent which is stupid because a deposit should already cover it) but they’re increasing our rent at the end of the lease by another $ 150, and I don’t think it’s worth it for any more than what we’re paying now, so we won’t be staying. If you can get a good unit for a good price, I’d say go for it. Anything more, I’d look elsewhere. It’s definitely not «luxury» though.

I lived at Nobel Court for 5 years and had a great experience. I read through some of the other reviews and, fortunately, I didn’t have similar experiences.
There are little things that are annoying about this complex, but nothing you won’t find anywhere else.
PROS:
— Close to A LOT of things: beach, mall, PB, Del Mar, UCSD, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Von’s, Ralph’s, and Bristol Farms for groceries.
–VERY close to the 5 fwy
— Management is pretty hands off. Pay your rent monthly and you may never hear from them.
–Quick turn around for repairs. I would get things fixed the very next day I made the request.
–Relatively quiet community.
–VERY dog friendly
–Well maintained landscape
–Locked building doors for security
–2 pools/​jacuzzis/​gyms… residents don’t realize they have access to the facilities across the street too.
CONS
–Fire alarm goes off way to much
–The post a lot of notices on your door… many things which aren’t even important.
–Elevators in my building (building#1) were very sketchy
–If you make a noise complaint to the ²⁴⁄₇ security… they don’t really do anything about it.
–Parking spots for residents are tiny
It’s a pretty expensive apartment, but given the area — it’s worth it.
I recommend living there.

I moved in here 2 years ago and it was an unforgettable experience. I’m glad I moved out last year. It’s a good size apartment, the first floor inside apartments lacked sunlight and barely had any windows. Depressing. I agree with most reviews that the walls are paper thin. Woken up a few times by upstairs neighbors and their cheap bed. In addition, they tow cars regularly here too and management doesn’t care if your car is accidentally towed. I would advise not to get packages delivered to your front door. I had two packages stolen. Finally, i don’t advise living here if you sleep during the day. Landscaping noise is loud and unbearable, especially from the inside apartments.
Pros: It’s close to everything in UC; right next to the interstate; a bbq grill.

My family and I just moved into these apartments almost 3 weeks ago and so far so good. I have not had an issue with the management thus far. They have been very accommodating with our needs and wants. We stay in a furnished 1 bedroom, but there is plenty of room for us. My daughter has enjoyed the pool and hot tub very much. I love that our parking is under the buildings and you need a controller to access it. Also to get into any building you need a key so not just anyone can walk in. We have also been enjoying the location. I was afraid to live in a college town at first, but we have not had a noise problem yet. There is plenty of shopping and restaurants within walking distance including the UTC mall and a few movie theaters. So far I would recommend this apartment complex to anyone!

Money hungry place that takes every advantage of to take your money. Hidden fees, hidden terms, pay to park, extra monthly fees. HUGE hassle to live here. Keep your money hidden and your wallets safe. Do no live here.
As a UCSD student there are way better places to live nearby.
NOBEL CROOK!

This place is the worst complex I have ever lived in. I have lived in maybe a dozen apartments in four states and nowhere has ever compared to this.
The construction of this place is awful. You will hear every word and step of the people who live above you. When they walk around, you will think the fans in the ceilings will fall off.
I lived in the party dorm at Arizona State and it was quieter than this place. There are drunk people at all hours of the night seven days a week shouting outside.
Security is not ²⁴⁄₇. It is part time. When my wife called when I was out of town, the man asked her repeatedly which unit she lived in and if she was alone and then kept calling her back. But even when they pretend to do their job, they demand to know the exact apartment number before they will respond. And they still do nothing.
The gardener seems to be on a one man quest to annoy everyone. From 9 – 3 you hear nothing but power tools and air blowers. If you are on the first floor he will spend hours a week right outside your windows working. He doesn’t do anything wrong but its still incredibly creepy.
This place is incredibly cold and hot. There is absolutely no forced air of any kind here. They have heaters in the wall but they are expensive to run and don’t work well. It is more efficient to run the oven in the winter and you had better have a ton of fans in the summer.
Nobel Court was not that bad when we moved in. However, they appear to have completely given up since the fall term started and no it is functionally a fraternity house. So if you want to pay 1800 bucks a month to live somewhere where you hear people screaming, fighting, partying, standing outside your window talking for an hour at a time at 4am, and, on one occasion, having screaming sex on a balcony at seven am then this is the place for you.

The hallways always smell like urine… how many suits does it take to figure out that they need to at least put in the air fresheners that they have on bathroom walls… come on… they even have them at the zoo. There are even some large stains in the carpet, that never get removed or replaced with new carpet. The stairwells are really bad, they have dog urine all over and when it rains, the carpet at the bottom of the stairs that meets the courtyard gets completely drenched, so not only does it for sure cause mold that we all have to breathe in, but you can’t dry your feet before walking up the stairs, by the way the stairs are rubber and get slippery. the elevators don’t have the correct inspection certificate posted either. It clearly states that it needs to be posted, to show that it has in fact passed inspection… sketchy right? There are never any resident appreciation activities or anything like that, which sucks because everyone pays grip to live here. I have been in contact with the manager several times and I do mean several times about the landscapers coming so Early in the morning, since I work nights and usually sleep in through the beginning of the morning to actually get almost 8 hours in. I have probably had to call back in at least 5 – 6 times to remind him to remind the gardeners and that is not even calling in every time it happens. Obviously my problem doesn’t mean a darn thing, I have lived in many different luxury complexes and never have I felt like the leasing office didn’t appreciate me. until now.
The grounds staff is great, very polite and positive despite everything else. I feel very sorry for the one cleaning lady who has a ridiculous amount of space to cover by herself. That would explain the lack of detail in the cleanliness of the place. even the elevator’s nooks & crannies are filthy. For the amount of money you pay here, you could be in a larger apartment, in a complex that has fun things going on, on a regular basis & walk through clean hallways. I have since moved on to a complex that has Free fun activities, a larger, better kept apartment and grounds and pay the same in an area that is just as nice, if not nicer. I am so glad I chose to leave.
p. s. If you are new to the area and are looking to make friends or even have a conversation with someone, look elsewhere. I am not exaggerating when I say this–
I had more conversation in passing moving into my new apartment complex than I had in an entire year at this place. Most of the people who live here are either new to the country or just plain awkward. I don’t know why, but this place is a magnet for the unsocial.

Yes, the noise is a bit much but that is to be expected in an apartment complex. Sometimes you get quiet neighbors, sometimes loud ones. Unfortunately, you can not fault the management for that. The pool area is nice and is rarely crowded. Some of the gym equipment was recently upgraded (though I am not sure why they got rid of the elliptical machines). There is a huge park nearby with walking/​running paths and pull-​up bars/​squat bricks, etc. The neighborhood is nice — I rarely feel unsafe. They do not allow BBQ’s on your patio, so you have to use the communal one at the pool which is mildly irritating.
The reason for 1 star:
1 — Our apartment flooded a month after we moved in due to a faulty plastic piece behind the toilet which the management freely admitted breaks all the time. We were given no compensation for the days we were out of the apartment, and they re-​laid the same carpet that had been soiled… gross.
2 — Management gave away our underground parking spot because they apparently never made note that they had given it to us,. Because of this, we had to find street parking late at night when we got home from work which was not always close.
3 — It took the better part of a month for them to handle our bug issue — with me contacting them every 2 days on average. They never contacted me back; it was always me having to follow up with them. I even wrote an email to the management company, but of course, no reply there either. Do not expect any kind of reasonable turn-​around time on requests.
I do not recommend this complex.

Everyone that I have encountered at this apartment complex was extremely standoffish and rude. For example when some one is waiting by the gate, motioning «can you open the gate» open it. The elevator is awkward when you say «hi» and no one responds or they just say «sorry». Im glad my sister moved out.

After reading these reviews it just shows how stuck up people are who live in La Jolla. I just moved into a 2bdrm apartment here in October and other than the freezing temperature, but what can the management do about that?, its great.
Yes you can hear people above you, but uh that’s an apartment for you, have you not lived in one before?
They have stacked washers and dryers in your unit, hardwood floors, HUGE living rooms, allow pets, a gym, a onsite salon, bbq areas, ²⁴⁄₇ security, pool and a spa. The new management is awesome and will always help you with anything.
I would say stop by here yourself before making any decisions. The stuck up posts from below don’t know what its like to live in an apartment.

I’ve lived here for 3 months now and am paying $ 1300/​mo for 650 square feet. I have to say it seemed SO nice and appealing when my fiancé and I can to see the model. The kitchen was beautiful, white cabinets, new appliances, the bathroom had great matching countertops to the kitchen, bedroom had a walk in closet… it was pristine. We were told we would not be able to see our unit until we got the keys, so I made sure to ask 4 or 5 times «Our unit will be EXACTLY like this, correct?» I was told over and over that yes, this is exactly what our apt would look like but a bit bigger for our floorplan.
The day we got our keys and I walked in the door, I thought I was going to die. Countertops were a mess, cabinets were some old gross fake wood paper covering, appliances are older than I am (and I am 25), washer dryer was from the 80s, flooring was different, bathroom was gross, carpet had stains, no walk in closet, and everything was clearly shoddy work. They fixed the countertops (which is just like paint, and they made a mess and got it all over the walls but didn’t bother to repaint the walls). We also weren’t told until lease signing that we couldn’t use our garbage disposal. I love to cook so the fact that NOTHING about the kitchen was as advertised is a major problem for me.
Parking spots are too small for even my Jetta, I hear every step my upstairs neighbor takes, we share a wall with a stair well and I her every footstep taken up the stairs and anytime the door opens and slams closed, I know it.
Basically these places are cool and have a TON of potential. Sadly, cheap, classless, and clueless management have ruined them. I can’t wait to get out.

Nobel Court has misleading advertisements! They will advertise on craigslist, saying that their 1 br units are available for $ 1200, but when you actually take the time to go there and look at the complex and units, they say «oh no, the market has changed and the rates are now $ 1350 for the 1br unit.»
How do rental rates change by +$ 150 within hours?
On top of that, Georgette, in their leasing office is rude and mean. She raised her voice and snapped at us because we expected the rates to be what was advertised.
BEWARE!

I’ve been living here for almost 6 months now. As a UCSD student, the location couldn’t be more perfect. It’s right across from a shuttle stop, along with other bus stops, and right down the street from La Jolla Village Square. I can even walk to campus when I’m feeling like getting some physical activity in.
I’m in a 2br corner unit. The size of the apartment is great. Massive living room, decently sized kitchen and bedrooms. Love that there’s lots of storage, washer/​dryer in unit, and I get a balcony and a patio. However, during the month of December, when it got actually cold in San Diego, it was like living in a meat locker. I swear, there were a few times when it was colder inside than outside. I tried the heater… one of those mini personal fans would have done better. I noticed there was quite a draft coming in from the windows and the doors to the outside. Which is fine during the summer when I don’t want to turn on the AC, but not during the winter when I literally feel like I’m freezing to death.
On the noise issue… I’m lucky that I’m in a corner unit, so I don’t really hear my neighbors on the other side of me, but jesus, I think my upstairs neighbors might be giants or WWE wrestlers or something from the noise. You can hear EVERYTHING. You can hear every step they take, everytime they flush the toilet or run water, phones vibrating, what they’re watching on TV, when they’re playing video games, the few times they have sex… etc. I also get to hear garbage trucks and loud engines from La Mirada every morning. Other than that, the complex is relatively quiet, I don’t know any of my neighbors, nor have I even seen them. I think I’ve seen maybe 5 residents the whole time I’ve been living here.
When I moved in, they said that my unit had been renovated. I could see that by the fresh paint and extremely linty carpet, however, they told me they had put in granite countertops, when it was very clear they were simply formica counters, which suspiciously had scrapes and knicks already. Paint job around the doorways was shoddy. The flooring in the kitchen and bathrooms had black marks. The oven doesn’t heat evenly, but at least the plumbing in the kitchen seems to be working well. The bathrooms are another story. Judging from all the leaks in the garage, the pipes are pretty old, and that means not very good drainage in the bathroom. Also the fan doesn’t work very well so you have to be careful about mold.
Garage spots are tiny as hell, and mine is next to a giant pole, making it difficult to get into a spot even with my tiny little car. The whole garage is also very narrow, with no mirrors, which means lots of close calls and backing up and maneuvering. Guest spots are just as bad, but good thing is they only fill up sometimes.
Gym is decent, never really crowded. I like that we have a sand volleyball court and some barbecues. The leasing office people can alternate between friendly and kind of bitchy, but hey, they always have fresh baked cookies!
Obviously, everything in La Jolla is ridiculously overpriced, and as a UCSD student, I pretty much have no choice but to suck it up and deal if I want to live near campus, but I feel this place should be about 400 dollars cheaper in rent.
