Was the best Mexican food around. They would deliver to the school. San Diego high school for anyone that would order it was honestly the best place

I like the food here. I’m not going to say this is the greatest small business Mexican joint in san Diego, but I would recommend them if your in the area. Good student specials, good food, good price and from sitting here people watching. a really friendly staff. I love the feel of a family owned business. I had the special which was tortilla soup and I added a Chile relleno, which ended up being a good amount of food. however I was a little shocked that there was no ‘meat’ in the soup. Mainly because the soup is offered as a full plate and not a side… so it was mostly tortilla strips, advacado, and broth with a side of rice. Good for vegetarians bad for me. My rating is based on the fact that this place is across the street from city college, and you can come in here grab a bite the go back to class in less than an hour. Also I love the outside dining area in the back.

R.I.P. La Casita. It was a gem during the time Eddie was running the place. Sort of pondering why it got a terrible review 2 weeks ago when it has been closed for months now. And why is its closure not indicated on Unilocal?I miss you, La Casita. It’s no surprise you did not survive without Eddie.

Meh. The caldo de pollo was pretty gross, that’s kind of hard to mess up, but the tacos were ok.
The outside seating is nice.

I was great while it lasted: cheap, delicious, fantastic patio covered with fabric palapas, college atmosphere and an anachronism in the evolving and modernizing East Village. La Casita no longer exists. Closed, with everything half dismantled. It was so charming, and so close to that big Chinese restaurant that was so iconic and also gone. I wonder how long will take for the Chinese dry cleaning just close by to go away as well. La Casita rest in peace, you were liked and had so many loyal fans for so many years.

Best carne asada tacos in San Diego! And I absolutely love the freshly made fruit drinks! The watermelon is my favorite! I recommend! The service was great. Both gentlemen were kind and friendly.

I’ve worked in the East Village for about 9 months and I can’t believe it took me this long to find La Casitas! Flavorful and impressive versions of taco shop classics. Great location across the street from City College and a wonderful outside patio.
I had a California burrito, one of my favorites at other tacos shops as well. The French fries here are still a little soft in the middle, adding a smooth texture to each bite. The cheese is expertly melted and doesn’t crowd the burrito as filler. Guacamole was tangy and the crane asada really pulled it all together. Lots of classic flavors with a presentation that shows they put a little more love into the experience. I would recommend the red salsa over the green, has a bit more spice and depth of flavor. Other menu items looked equally tempting, more to try in the next visits.
I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing that I work within walking distance. I’ll be coming here more regularly for sure!

Hey !! the the people there are just plain awesome and the food there is just Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrate I rate them on a scale from 1 to 10 I give them a 15 !! and I don’t want to for get about the music it goes well with the restaurant my favorite dish that I love having there is there fish taco’s. they have 2 big pieces of fish and that’s what’s good about it I been to other places and there fish is skimpy and little and they call this a fish taco. what ever. so I am telling everyone this is the place to go and have lunch. it rocks down town.

I come here pretty much everyday since I go to school at city college right across the street. I really like the good and it’s pretty authentic. It is privately owned and so they hook you up when ever they can. Like it was a cash only place and one time I only had my debit card and had already ordered then noticed I didn’t have any cash and she hooked me up and of course later that day I came and paid it back but like it’s something you only get from those mom and pops shops. They take debit and credit now. I always try something new every time I go until I’ve tried everything. I’m almost there though. I recommend the casita bowl though it is my favorite so far.

I just love this place!!! I attend city college and I eat here at least twice a week if not more, the staff is great and the food is amazing! One of the best places in SD to get a great California burrito!

We were very excited to come try this place because its right by our house. Unfortunately it was a miss. It does have a Hispanic mom and pap feel to it, hoping it was traditional Mexican food and not Americanized. It has a little charm and a nice patio during warm weather. The food was very bland and no flavor. I was hoping for a $ 3.50 taco that they would at least be flavor able and delicious, but no luck. The Horchata was pretty good, not to sweet. Overall was very disappointed and it was to expensive for the quality, which i can get anywhere downtown. It could have a cute little niche with its Casita Madra’s house.

I came here about 10 years ago and ordered a chorizo burrito while I was at SDCC. I got horrendously sick. Fast forward to 2013, the restaurant was remodeled and perhaps under management? I was optimistic this time and ordered a machaca burrito. It has now been three hours later and I am dealing with intense stomach pain and GI problems. Fool me once, shame on me; fool me twice shame on you.

The food here is not that great. I had the shredded chicken torta which was heavily layered with mayonaise on the bread. I’ve also had a couple other items including their pollo burrito. It’s just not that great in general. The chicken is bland and I had to add extra salsa to give it flavoring. I only went here out of convenience for food. Otherwise, there are plenty of places much better.

This place has my favorite Latin American food in the States. Coconut oil is used to cook the meat; plátanos are used in the guacamole; and sometimes there is amazing watermelon juice as a drink option, though the horchata ties with it. There is a nice outdoor seating area (which has been redone and is constantly being improved) with many spots to choose from and good music usually. The fish tacos are large and delicious; the $ 1-​$ 3 burritos and tacos are ridiculously generous deals for a quick meal (esp. if you are on the go); and I try to get the beans here every time I dine-​in. They can also serve alcohol now so you can enjoy a beer with your dinner. Love this place!

Since I don’t even like Mexican food I can’t give this place more than four stars overall. What I can say is that the food is really good, the folks that works there are great, the ambiance is surprisingly nice for the area, and the prices are awesome. I’m sure I will be back soon.

First I want to comment on a ridiculous comment by Donald O. I have no affiliation with La Casita nor the owner, manager, or employees. Next on behalf of every fan of La Casita, DONALD O, YOU ARE AN ASSHOLE!
With that said, I have only been to La Casita a few times. The last time I went the upper level of the outside seating had a bad slant. So it’s safe to assume it has been a long while.
Story goes, I was running late to get back to work and I was waiting for my wife so we could scurry a long back to my office. I then decided I wanted some great Mexican food from La Casita, where people can eat outdoors like an authentic Mexican style home.
Did I mention Donald O is an ASSHOLE!
I ordered a number 14 and my wife ordered a Machaca torta. I had one fish taco and one shrimp taco, rice and beans. I enjoyed the fish and shrimp taco and I could recommend one thing I would suggest adding a tad bit of salt or something just to enhance the flavors just a bit. I will say the last time I had a fish and shrimp taco that had a similar style, I was in Mazatlan! Just add the salt to enhance the flavor just a bit and PERFECTO!
Ok the Machaca torta is the star of the show. I have had many tortas from restaurant style to home cooked and DAMN!
THE MACHACA TORTA WAS PHENOMENAL! I bit into it thinking it would be a typical torta and I was expecting to experience some goodness but almost had an out of body experience! This torta has absolutely fantastic meat with beans and gucamole and egg and this combination would make me punch Donald O in the face and spend a month in jail just to get out and walk to La Casita to experience that Machaca torta again!
I don’t care what else you do in life but you HAVE to get that Machaca torta! I don’t want to say that is the only good thing on their menu but that torta is one of the best foods in the free world!
GET THE TORTA OR GO TO YOUR GRAVE KNOWING YOU HAVE MISSED ONE OF THE GREATEST FOODS TO EVER BE SOLD IN YOUR LIFETIME!!!
Can’t wait for the live music and the absolute great food in my opinion. All kidding aside I cannot wait to revisit La Casita to taste some more great food. I only hope I get to meet Donald O! bwhahahahahahhah!

I ordered many different items in order to give a more well rounded review. I do feel as though current management is trying and they have upgraded the restaurant a ton. That said, I must honestly admit that the food was sub-​par.
The fish tacos were really Talapia Jerky. And my Chicken Tostado was swimming in sauce, which I have never seen on a tostada. They also really scrimp on the cheese and lettuce. They do offer Aqua Fresco and I tried both, but they were sickening sweet.
I will give an ‘A’ for effort on what management has done to the premises, but it’s not enough for me to go back again. Especially with flies buzzing around my food inside the restaurant.

La Casita = SHIT SHOW!!!
Today, i order 10+ burritos for my office, $ 80 bucks worth of shit is what we got. I kindly called the «manager» Eddy, to explain to him that 3 of the 4 surf and turf burritos were disgusting and had hardly no meat and there was shells still on the shrimp. pretty much a shrimp shell rice burrito… mmmmmmm.
Eddy the «manager» asked if i wanted my money back and i said no thanks, its a corporate credit card, we are just hungry and would like something else, he takes our order for two carne asada fries, no big deal right… well until you get a call back from Eddy the «manager» saying his «cook» lol COOK was «pissed off» and went on questioning me about the burritos. First saying he made them and then jumping to his «cook» making them. I simply told him we weren’t looking for a hand out, clearly we just racked up $ 80 bucks worth of Mexican food on our company’s tab. I was a little taken back that he had the nerve to call me and question me on his shitty food.
TIP OF THE DAY… Customer is ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS RIGHT!!! DO YOU SEE THIS EDDY the «manager»??? You will not survive if you don’t listen, LISTEN, to your clients. trust me.

La Casita does, in fact, have an excellent carne asada burrito. So yes, this place IS perfect to sit out on their patio (
) while enjoying some great Mexican food. As an added boner, I mean bonus, you are given the opportunity (at least during the week) to ogle the college girls that walk by. But then again, they COULD be from the High School which is next to the college. Just be careful when you yell out that you want to hump them until they pass out.
Everything in the burrito (carne asada burrito # 22 —
) is good to go. The carne asada is made when you order it, the beans, cheese and tortilla were great, as well.
