iTAN Sun Spray Spa – Hillcrest

I really love this place. I only spray tan and they have two spray machines– mystic taj and versa. I RARELY ever have to wait and if I do it’s short. The staff is attentive, the facility is clean and they have everything I need: baby wipes for excess spray or blending cream and hair ties. I have grown to love it even more as I have gotten to know the staff. Kayla is great– she remembers your name, any tanning preference you may have, and any special events coming up. Lastly– she always works to find me best deal when purchasing a package. What more can I say? 5 stars!

I LOVE this Itan! I have been going here for about a month or so and have enjoyed every tan, spray tan, and service I have tried. I’m pretty busy, so each time I go I try to do a few services — I can always get right in and the waits have been either minimal or non-​existent. All the staff are fantastic, but I really love Kayla! If you are lucky enough to stop in when she is there, she will definitely take great care of you. All the staff are also really helpful when it comes to add ons or products, but they are never pushy. They really meant it as a helpful suggestion and I’ve never felt pressured. For the add-​ons or products I have purchased, I’ve been happy that they have all done what was expected and have been worth what I paid.
Overall, I really think Itan is the best tanning and spa chain in San Diego and this location is the best Itan! Go! You will be glad you did.

Love this salon. I was a loyal customer to Hollywood tan while they were in Hillcrest, but just started coming back here and couldn’t be happier with my choice. All the girls are incredibly nice and it’s always a pleasant experience. Oh, and Kayla and Brianna rock!

Well in theory it’s nice if you could just pop in real quick at any of their locations and pop out. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. I’ve had to wait a half hour or longer, leaving this as an hour long adventure for something that should take 5 minutes for a quick spray. Not so convenient. I’m a busy person on the go. The people there are nice, this location is clean, supplies in the room are often not replenished, but what kills me is the wait. Get another Mystic and I’ll be SO HAPPY.

If you can’t tone it, TAN IT.
Versa Spa spray tan is awesome! I’ve tried every self tanner lotion «under the sun» and this produces the best fake-​bake. I never use the beds, as I avoid any sort of UV exposure like the plague. (Wrinkles? Premature aging? Not for me… I don’t judge though!) The process only takes a few minutes and lasts a full week for me.
My skin is normally vampire-​white. And like a vampire might, I wear spf 2000 daily and avoid sun exposure in general. I envy those that can get away with having pretty porcelain skin. Sadly, I cannot. I’m so pale I have to «double-​dip» as I call it. I go in for a spray two consecutive days in a row and end up looking like I just got back from a month long Hawaiian vacation!
Minus one star because they don’t have the VersaPro, but not a big deal really.
This place is always super clean, and the staff is always super friendly. Love the central Hillcrest location. The tan really doesn’t take full effect until after 8 hours or so… but It isn’t sticky, doesn’t smell weird, and doesn’t turn me into a blonde Snooki!

Most of the employees here are great but beware when you are ready to cancel your membership. If you have «bonus bucks» on your account and cancel you lose all of your credit. I had $ 35 in credit but I was not alerted to that until I asked about it but by the time I asked the employee let me know she had already canceled my account in the system so I lost that credit. Shouldn’t she have let me know about my credit before she canceled my account? I would have kept my account another month to use my credit. I found this terribly unprofessional and disappointing. For this reason I will never go back to iTan and I was a loyal member for over 5 years. Very disappointed.
Update: Only two days after posting this review I received a call from the district manager of iTan inquiring about my experience and apologizing. She reinstated my credit right away and let me know that my credit would never expire. I am very appreciative and also impressed by how quickly iTans mgmt reacted to my negative experience and turned it around. I’m looking forward to going back and using my credit.

I have been coming here for one year and I absolutely love it here. I am always greeted with a warm welcome and the staff are so friendly and courteous…

I’ve been going to this iTan location for about six months and I’m a very satisfied customer!
The staff are amazing. Friendly, helpful, and best of all, knowledgeable. I have asked their advice on tanning on many occasions and they have provided me with great assistance. I am very grateful for all their advice. I’ve been able to get and maintain a great tan thanks to them!
In addition, the place is always clean and their beds are up to date and their bulbs fresh.

Super nice staff, really quick and clean. If you want to look like you go outside without the hassle of actually enjoying the sunlight, this is a pretty good cheat spot.

I wish I could remember her name, but whoever helped me was incredibly sweet and knowledgeable. She didn’t pressure me to buy any expensive packages but informed me of the good deals. I ended up getting a higher level package of 3 tans. The rooms and beds are super clean and I managed a tan in one session. I’ll probably be back for my next tan this week. Thank you!

Came in for the first time tonight (¹²⁄₂₉) and Kimmy greeted me as soon as I walked in the door. She was so enthusiastic and so very thorough explaining the spray tan process. She answered all my questions and eased my apprehension. All in all. She was awesome and made my first experience perfect. I did the mystic spray tan and it looks fabulous. Management please give the team working tonight props! They were all really great. Sorry I didn’t catch their names as well :)

Incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff. Clean location with plenty of beds and spray toons. I look forward to going back soon to get some color :)

BUYER BEWARE!!! Don’t go here if you Airbrush tan! I bought a $ 500 tan package under the false pretense that «they just hired a bunch more tan technicians» but then every single time I tried to to use it, they don’t have anyone that can tan me, no matter how far in advance I try to schedule… Simply because they do not schedule people to work at normal times (aka… After a normal office workday, like after 5pm.
Their solution was that I take a vacation day… Really? To get a tan sweetheart? Like every week? Clearly these people have never had a real job & don’t accommodate for people that do have real jobs.
Their next solution was that I tan at lunch… Right… So that I can go back to work when I can’t even wear normal clothes yet because I’m smearing color all over everything I touch. The only time that’s normal to tan is in the evening, & I told them that when I bought the package. They assured me it would not be a problem.
What a bunch of scammers.
$ 500 totally wasted. They won’t refund. They won’t let me sell the package to someone else. They won’t even let me let my friends use it, & won’t let my models for my company use it before photoshoots.
I own a company & I would never do business like this. It’s embarrassing how lousy they operate.

So there was a special for spa treatments for 50 bucks sounds good right? Wrong it was only for a week which the ad on Facebook said two they didn’t even offer all the items at one location so I had to make multiple trips out the way I was pissed and the front desk girl kept saying some of the things offer came with other items that I had to buy whatt a rip. They straight lied and then tried to milk me for more money by adding product to the spa treatments that were included with the 50.00 after all was said and done a person would spend aleast 170 dollars. No thanks

When I first walked in I initially came in for a body wrap, I’ve never been to a tanning salon ever, so I was amazed at the variety of options they had available. This place is super convenient for me, and the prices are reasonable. What keeps me coming back, are the results and the friendliness of the employees here. Sandra is my favorite, we always pick up where we last left off on our conversations and she is very helpful. I was like a deer in headlights when I first came in with no expectations, but thanks to the attentive customer service and comfortable environment I’m glad to say Im a member at I-​tan. They also have great deals going on all the time which is a plus.

I was on the search for tanning salons in the area, and I am so fortunate that this was the first one I went to! I was immediately greeted by Matty, and he was amazing at explaining all the packages, costs, and services… even gave me a tour of the place and explained all the beds and spa equipment!
I went back later to try the body wrap, and that is when Sandra took care of me. She was also amazing! I felt extremely comfortable asking her questions, and she made the process really easy!
Overall, not only do they offer amazing services, but the staff is fantastic! GO HERENOW!

Came here on July 3^rd to get a spray tan. I get my eyebrows done in that little shopping center (shameless plug – go to Aaliyah’s Beauty & Brows next door).
Pro:
the girls were friendly and helpful
the place is clean and looks nice
there is a free parking lot
there are multiple locations
they had a holiday package for spray tans which i took advantage of (originally 1 spray tan is $ 30 but i got a package of 6 spray tans for $ 88) which do not expire and can be used at any of their locations
i got really good coloring from the spray tan (almost too dark actually)
Con:
I wish they were more upfront with the additional costs. They made it seem like the scents and add ins were part of the pacakge, but when they rang me up it was about $ 25 more!
The wait was long, but it was 11:30am the day before a holiday, so that’s probably why
The versa spray tan booth was out at that location and a few others in sd
I will come back here, clearly, because i have a package and 5 spray tans left. I wish they had locations in LA (where I live) but I’m in SD every other weekend so it works out just fine.

By far one of the Nicest Staffs for any type of an Business, hands down!
Every time I walk in I’m greeted with Big Smiles & Hellos! It can make a persons day when you’re greeted with such positive energy!!!

I have been going to iTan in Hillcrest for at least three years and have nothing but great things to say about the staff and the salon. The entire staff is not only knowledgable and helpful but SUPER friendly. No matter what my mood is when I go in, I am smiling when I leave. Nicole, Matty, Corey, Laura and Sarah provide excellent customer service. I love the hydration station, the tanning beds and have gotten so many compliments after a mystic spray tan. Love this place!

Let me start out by saying… DO NOT let these bad reviews affect your decision. In light of recent events, another tanning salon had closed down and there is an unhappy taste going on about it from those members. However, iTAN is AMAZING! I am a resident of West Hollywood, CA and visit San Diego quite often.
On March 14, I walked into iTAN and was graciously helped by Laura who had an INCREDIBLE personality. Even though she could already tell that I tanned, and could assume I knew my stuff about tanning, she still offered to walk me around the salon and explain the beds. I accepted the tour. She was extremely knowledgeable of each bed how to tan and could tell immediately which level I would love and she was right. She immediately made me feel at home with iTAN. NEVER felt that way before at a tanning salon, even the current membership I have in LA. She sold me on an unbeatably priced package which only made sense to purchase. The value was too good not to. $ 99 for 6 tans in any level… I think so. OH, and they don’t expire.
Then, I came in on March 15 and this time brought a friend. Shawna, a manager from another location, was there and the customer service was even more incredible. Something you would expect from a manager if not better. She went through packages, deals, options, and could hold a conversation like we were the best of friends. I was THIS CLOSE to cancelling my LA membership just to sign up with iTAN because the prices are UNBEATABLE and for EVERYTHING you get… it was a no brainer. Not to mention this choice of beds, levels, and the beds are NOT old. Bulbs are strong and they even have spa services. And again, the customer service is an 11. I was TOTALLY sold but I do live in LA and so that was what prevented me from signing up with a membership. She reassured my feeling in loving iTAN and being a lifetime customer.
She explained with true depth and genuine feeling that iTAN is 100% about customer service and it shows. Thanks ladies for the AMAZING welcome and I can’t wait to see you again. We already love you.
