After hearing so many good things about this place, I thought I’d give this strip-mall burger joint a try. I mean, if the homos like it, you know the straight folks will soon follow suit in hordes. $ 9 double cheese burger with bacon. $ 6 large fries. The burger was nothing special. I feel that I would rather pay three to four dollars more and get a decent, hearty, beefy, meaty burger from a proper restaurant. It felt cheap… Tasted cheap too. The fries were really good. Best part of it all. But don’t think that you and your Bae can split a large size… No. It’s way too big. Stick to a small or medium of you’re looking for some freedom fries. Service was ok. Either I was too stoned or the guy was too stoned to figure out what was happening at the register… But in the end and order was placed and there was a monetary exchange. However; were I sober, I’d probably be bitching about how stoned the guy behind the counter was. This is quite possibly the worst branded chain I’ve ever been to. Red and white tile themed. So boring. It was like visual klonopin. It’s one way they save money at corporate, I guess. Pro-Tip!: peanuts in the shell are offered as appetizers! But the floor is too clean to just throw the shells down with little to no disregard. So keep your mess contained you filthy animals.

Had a regular cheeseburger. Pick your toppings. I chose lettuce, tomato, raw onion, pickles and mayo. Two patties that are only cooked well. I was assured they are juicy. They were. Bun was toasted, mayo on both sides. Two juicy patties nestled with two slices of american cheese, perfectly melted. Seems about 1⁄3 pound of meat. Very good burger. Fries were hot, crisp and adequately salted. Good job on having malt vinegar. Staff are excellent and friendly. Eat this burger. Price is a bit high at over $ 14 for burger, small fries and drink.

I love being able to custom order my burger. They have plenty of options to create your burger just the way you want it. They also provide you with a plenty of french fries. One order is enough for two people.

Honestly, I think this place is overpriced. Which would be perfectly fine if the burgers had something to offer, but they’re just okay. It’s nice you can have an unlimited amount of toppings & literally just put whatever you want on the burger, but if it’s $ 10 for a burger WITHOUT the fries or drink, I’m sorry but I’ll go elsewhere. But hey, at least you get free peanuts.

I have eaten here a bunch and in fact, have friends from out of town that demand we get burgers at this particular location because the food is so good. I love the bacon cheese burger with the seasoned fries. Keep in mind the sizes of the fries are really way bigger than what they advertise. They put all the food in a bag, they put the fries in a cup then put the cup in the bag, they then dump tons more fires in the bag. The fries are also the best I have ever had at a fast food joint period. They are thick but not to thick(that’s what she said) and seasoned well. I would go here again and suggest this place to others.

Average. Expected better! I have gone to other locations and the burgers were good, fries hot and tables clean. Not here! They got my groups order mixed up… Asked and paid for bacon on burgers. When spoke to manager, they offered to give us 8 bacon strips on the side… REALLY! They did not offer to correct, but in the end the refunded is our meals. I hope they get more organized the MEX time I come to San Diego!

I was surprised to see that they have a veggie option which is basically like the burger but with no meat. It was pretty tasty and big. I thought it was a good value. There was also peanuts that you can grab and snack on while you wait for your food. I would definately eat here again. It would be nicer if they had more sauces like ranch, thousand island, etc. they have some appetizing shake options I want to try. Also it is disappointing that the fries have transfat so I won’t be ordering them until that changes…

Not long ago, Men’s Health Magazine included Five Guys Burgers and Fries in their lists of «Worst Burgers» and«Worst Foods in America.» Men’s Health Magazine can bite me. The publication’s beef(sorry, it couldn’t be helped) was that both Five Guys’ Bacon Cheeseburgers and their French Fries are too large, and that they contain too many calories. In their comments, Men’s Health glibly disparaged these foods while making no representations regarding either item’s quality or taste, all while neglecting to speak to the excellence of the company itself. So, while Men’s Health Magazine is biting me, let me tell you how their snarky, we-know-what’s-good-for-you attitude did a disservice to Five Guys. I’ve been eating at Five Guys since they opened down the street from my girlfriend’s house in Arlington, VA, in 1986. The menu has changed only slightly since then, and at whichever Five Guys I’ve patronized, whether in the DC area or here, in our beloved Hillcrest, I’ve found the food they serve to be consistent; always fresh, always gratifying, always an excellent version of what it is. Like every Five Guys I’ve visited, the University Avenue store is generally clean and well-stocked, and the efficiency of its service fluctuates with the length of the lines out front, just as it should. More important, every Five Guys meal I’ve eaten has left me feeling that I gained value for the money I spent. The basic Five Guys Bacon Cheeseburger includes two fresh — never-frozen — hand-formed 3.2-ounce beef patties that are cooked to order. The meat is 80⁄20 ground chuck that’s juicy, flavorful and uniquely… beefy. The patties are laid onto a fresh-made bun and dressed with two slices of American cheese and crispy, applewood-smoked bacon from Wisconsin’s Cudahy smokehouse. The unadorned sandwich is a delicious, high-end version of a fast food classic. It’s Northern Virginia’s answer to In-N-Out, the answer being, precisely, «You wish.» Ever the overachievers, Five Guys further distinguishes itself from its competitors with such a long list of free toppings that patrons can customize their burgers over 250,000 different ways. And then, though it’s hardly necessary, Five Guys serves boardwalk fries, which, it must be said, are God’s way of giving purpose to the potato. I’m pretty sure that the five guys who founded the chain grew up eating fries from Thrasher’s in Ocean City, Maryland, same as the rest of us Northern Virginia boys who lived at the beach, come summer. I say so, because Five Guys’ fries have the same superb twice-cooked edge, the same toothsome interior and potato-to-salt ratio as the fries I grew up eating on the boardwalk, just after body surfing and just before kicking ass at Skee-Ball at Marty’s Playland. All Five Guys lacks are seagulls, dive-bombing the fries of inattentive customers. If you’ve misplaced your taste for great French fries in vats of duck fat, under piles of cheese curds or amid the acetone whiff of truffle oil, then come, my friends; come remember quality; have a greasy paper bagful of Five Guys French fries(and a Bacon Cheeseburger), as Men’s Health Magazine gingerly bites your buttocks. And as you do, and as they do, bear in mind that, of course, Five Guys Burgers and Fries are fattening. Aggressively so. They’re 920 calories for the sandwich and 1,474 calories for the large fries. But this isn’t diet food, and if you’re dieting, what the hell are you doing, ordering a Bacon Cheeseburger and a bag of fries? ****************************** Men’s Health — 11 Worst Burgers in America: — 20NEW Worst Foods in America: Patrick Cudahy: Marty’s Playland: Thrasher’s:

Five Guys, how I love you. I don’t go to Five Guys often, and I’m not sure why… Aside from the fact that the closest one is about 10 miles away. The only other one I’ve been to is the one on North Island base. I forget there’s a Hillcrest location because it’s in a small area, but the Five Guys itself is huge! I don’t know if they do this at all Five Guys, but they offer free peanuts that you pour yourself as you wait for your food. The food is pretty pricey, especially for a damn burger, but it’s a damn good burger. Every single element about it is perfection. I don’t do vegetables when it comes to burgers, so I taste that delicious bacon and BBQ sauce to the extreme when I eat. Their bacon is very crispy, and I do not let a single piece go to waste. My boyfriend wanted to order the Five Guys fries as opposed to the popular Cajun fries. At the North Island location, I always get the Cajun fries because it the perfect amount of *kick*! Their Five Guys fries are still good, though. I had to use ketchup, but for the Cajun fries I let the seasoning speak for itself. I love places with soda machines that offer a million different drink selections. Not many places do this, so I applaud Five Guys even more! Customer service is on point at both locations I’ve been to so far. A+ food.

I been here a couple times, it’s good but every time I feel like I could of ate like 8 mcchickens at McDonald’s, crazy burger, or got pizza for much less and the soda machine does not have dr pepper.

A familiar spot from my home states of Pennsylvania and Delaware, and just as good as always! The burgers are amazing, and as always one order of fries is actually two or three! I highly recommend going with Cajun style for the fries, truly delicious. I place an order online, which was super easy, and made me feel confident that I would get exactly what I ordered. I drove over to pick up the order, and got a text from the misses exclaiming that she forgot to select bacon for her burger, a true crisis in my book! I was a few minutes early and noticed they had not completed the burgers yet, so I asked if they would be so kind as to add bacon, and that I would happily pay for it. The were more than happy to add the bacon, and to make it even better, they would not let me pay them for it! That is how you handle customer service, they earned a customer for life with such a small gesture. The staff was also very friendly as a whole, and really seemed to care about what they were doing. Restaurant was clean, and everything was stocked up and organized. I will certainly be coming back here again in the future.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries is my guilty pleasure of burger joints. I can taste the extra fat, calories and cholesterol that comes with it but wow is it a good burger! This is a small location but with a terrible parking situation. Customer service was pleasant and professional. Prices are fair and I you definitely get what you pay for. I really like the options they have available(make your burger 99 different ways it seems like). My only complaint with this Five Guys is my complaint with the whole company in general, the food is too fattening! As great as it is to eat here, I would very much appreciate healthier ingredients and/or options. Overall, I like Five Guys. I typically only venture here if I’m on a «vacation diet» but if you enjoy a good tasting burger, then definitely try it out! Good luck with getting parking at almost any time of the day for this location though.

Overall I think there are much better places for a burger. 1.(-) Over-priced. Rocky’s is cheaper and better if I am looking for a burger with adults. 2.(-) The bacon always tastes over-cooked. 3.(+) Grilled mushrooms and onions are a plus. 4.(+) Coke Freestyle machine is a plus; I do like vanilla coke. 5.(-) No Ranch dressing… you have so many other choices, you should add this one.

I LOVEFIVEGUYS — do you like burgers with more than just lettuce, tomato, mustard, ketchup, mayo and cheese? Yeah so do I! Here they make burgers to order(literally) and add all sorts of yummy toppings — bacon and EXTRA bacon, green peppers, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, onion, jalapeño peppers, A-1 sauce, bbq… the list goes on and on… I loved them before when I used to eat buns… NOW I love them more — they have bunless protein style(wrapped in lettuce) and the burger bowls(comes in a tin container like a burger salad)… I am addicted to the bowls! YUM! The meat is always cooked right and the toppings(all of which I get grilled except the lettuce) are awesome! Fries — they are good but don’t expect crispy… they are almost baked potato inside with a firm outside. Yummy — and the CAJUN is fantastic — if you are eating alone get the LITTLE size. If you are eating with two get the small and if you are eating with four get the bigger. They serve a HUGE portion of them. The service at this location is outstanding and employees are always helpful and friendly while also seemingly enthusiastic about their jobs! Parking can be a pain but at least they have a lot. LOVE the Coke drink machines — they are light a playground in a restaurant to drink-aholics like myself. Try making a fruit punch with Fanta flavors — oh yeah! The restroom is a single stall but it is almost always clean!

After a day date at Balboa park we wanted FOOD! Not a $ 10 pretzel from a cart at the park. Five Guys is only minutes away. We ordered, no line. Happy employees. I prefer it to In n Out because I do not eat beef. Here I can get a grilled cheese with the veggie works and it is HUGE. A full meal. The fries were piping hot and fresh. Please let their be a Five Guys in heaven. One note-Parking is AWFUL!!! But I do not blame them, I blame the poorly designed lot.

Veggie sandwich, little fries, large drink = $ 10.12. It’s a ton of food though! There was only one guy working when I went on a weekday afternoon. He was handling the register and the grill like a boss though! The veggie sandwich is enormous, and messy. The little fries are plenty for at least 2 people, probably more like 3.
