Hydrex Pest Control

My father died last year. He left me his Vietnam War area combat boots. I now wear them when I ride my Harley.
Well my mother hired Hydrex Pest Control to treat our house for termites last Wednesday (6÷8÷2016). While Hydrex had the house to themselves one of their employees stole my dead father’s boots. This Hydrex employee also riffled through my mother’s pill bottles and messed around with her bed. Hmm… I wonder what he was looking for? We paid $ 4000 for their pest control service. Did not know their service included stealing our personal property. I want my dead father’s boots returned.

I have been a fan of Steve at Hydrex since he first came out to my home in North Park many years ago. Recently when my grandfather was having a flea issue at his home, I knew who I’d call due to his thoroughness, dependability and always punctual arrivals. We requested for Steve to come out in the wee hours of the morning before I and my grandfathers neighbors left for work…(you know, to keep the bug problem on the DL). Those lil varmint pests never stand a chance against Steve and his bug cocktails or spray pack. I am no longer the only one in my fam who uses Hydrex, to keep the creepy and pestie critters away. From the Gramps and I, thank you for always being reliable, dependable and always getting the job done right, the first time. Happy to be ant, flea and moth free again and again.

Abel came and repaired some wood damage.. He was pleasant, very professional, and made sure the job he did would exceed expectations. He knows the meaning of added value, and is an asset to Hydrex!

After something like 12-​years with Hydrex’s annual service contract for termites, when we went to sell the house, their own inspector (different from the guy that came annually to look for termites and do spot treatments) found about $ 6K in termite damages, and proceeded to tell us we would have to pay them for the repairs. What a racket. Buyer beware.

Found Hydrex a couple months ago when we walked into our backyard to find out fleas had taken over. Signed up for their monthly plan and had them come back a few extra times until we were sure the fleas were gone. Josh did a great job spraying the property to insure we would get a handle on them. Not being able to go outside when you have a toddler is miserable he made sure he did everything possible to get rid of them. I appreciate the extra work and putting up with my frustration. Just had our first monthly service and so far so good.

My grandmother has been using Frank Dickerson for years and enjoys his quality of work very much. It’s so nice to have an someone we trust into our home for inspection every year. Frank is amazing and always offers us great advice.

Steve is the man! The guy does such a good job with my frequent sprays around our house! Definitely someone you can trust to not only do a good job, but a quick one as well. Also someone you can trust to have in your home just in case! Thanks Steve!

We have used the services of Hydrex since 2000. They have handled ants, rodents and bee removal for us and we’ve always been highly satisfied. Vance is the technician who has serviced us for all these years. He is very knowledgeable, professional and reliable.

I was having some problems with ants, and mentioned to an friend in my neighborhood, so she recommend Jesse from Hydrex I called him and I have been using him for years, didn’t have anymore problems with ants or anything for that matter. Jesse is also so friendly and makes a point to greet me if I am home when he comes. I have been so happy with him and his good service

I had a rat problem that continued for a YEAR. Never got rid of them. Their service person for a monthly insect control needs some PR training. Very costly for extremely poor service. Beware!

We bought a home in Escondido that was inspected by Hydrex. They found termites in the back patio, and treated and cleared the home. They also provided a 2 year guarantee for their work. A few months later we saw evidence of termites in the outer walls of the actual home. Hydrex came out and confirmed it was termites. They offered to spot treat for free, which included drilling holes in the walls, but would not offer to fumigate the house for free.
I called the pest board and they explained that a pest company like this needs to guarantee their work. Because we asked Hydrex to spot treat the patio they are only compelled to spot treat on their guarantee. If we had insisted they fumigate the house the pest board would have been able to compel them to re-​fumigate. Knowing this, I have learned there are 3 rational options if termites are found on a home inspection: fumigate, fumigate, fumigate.
My main complaint is that Hydrex did not find termites in the actual house structure when they were clearly present. Had they correctly identified termites in the walls of the home we would have asked them to fumigate and it would have been done right the first time. Since they did not find termites in the actual home but only the back patio we incorrectly chose to spot treat.
To Hydrex’s credit they did offer a discount on fumigation, which we eventually accepted. The fumigation scheduling was done poorly as they showed up late and then did not communicate when the fumigation was complete.
I would not use this company again.

Lousy service from office staff, technicians and managers.
I’ve been doing business with them for five years. The office people are not pleasant on the phone. On a couple of occasions I’ve asked for a different technician than the one they always send me — someone who doesn’t scrape up my walls and poke holes in my screen door with his ladder and who doesn’t reek of cigarette smoke.
A manager called me back and said he would not change the technician because of fuel costs, their routing system and their commission structure. And told me most of his technicians smoke and «that’s just the world we live in.» I don’t see how any of that is the customers issue. I do see how it is lousy customer service. I was also informed that with their 15 000 customers they can’t make accommodations for any «special requests.»
Terrible overall experience — no matter how long you are a customer of theirs.

I wish I could give Hydrex Pest Control negative stars! One of their technicians did a termite inspection for the house we recently bought. First of all, he did the job later than the date he supposed to do; and second, there are false statements on his report. I called him several times until I could talk to him today; basically, he did not have any explanation about false statements in his report and why he did the inspection in a later day. He asked for more money to come and give me some explanation! He hung up the phone on me; he was not courteous and co-​operative at all; he asked me to do whatever I can! I will follow this matter by all the options that are available legally; unless, he wants to resolve the matter professionally.

TERRIBLE! Our home is under construction and this company came onto the property (unsafe and unauthorized!) to do an «inspection» then billed us! We never agreed to this, never asked them to do this, have no idea who they are and they have the nerve to bill us for trespassing on our property! If we see them again, we will call the police.

Mixed bag with this company. I think they know what they are doing in terms of termite inspections, but their reports are hard to read which isn’t exactly helpful during an escrow.
I used them because the HOA used them for their maintenance program on the complex. Figured there would be less dispute on a problem as you will find significant variances in treatment/​repair costs from different termite companies. I think that was the case here and they did take care of the treatment that was needed as part of the HOA’s contract with them.

We moved into our first home in San Diego county a few years ago. The previous owner contracted this company therefore we basically inherited their services. The company solicited us to continue service for a discounted price. Wife and I obliged considering house seemed termite free, therefore, felt we needed to protect our investment. So, they show up every now and then but we NEVER saw technician conduct any type of prevention of any sort. He assured us we were all good! Due to financial hard times we had to cut our services for a while. Well, things financially got better for us and we decided to call Hydrex back.
Hydrex sends the person over to our home and basically says we have termite damage here, there, everywhere! I told him that its hard to believe since we obtained there services a short time ago. He asked me to describe technician. I describe to him the person and he basically through him under the bus! Whatever, that’s on them. Inspection is complete and he determines $ 1800 and some change to get me back up to par.
I thought the dude was full of you know what! I told him his company serviced my house and basically let this happen to it! He said he would talk to his managers and he would immediately get back to me… five business days past, no call! I decided to call him, no answer! I call company some confused guy answers tells me that he would have a manager call me back in a few minutes. Once again, nothing! I called again, so rude lady answers but I do get a returned call.
After several excuses, guy claims management feels its my problem because I paused in my service. They can’t do anything for me but charge me to start services all over! I repeated to him several times that HYDREX had my business and didn’t keep their end of the bargain to keep my home termite free! Had they been doing the preventive maintenance in the first place, my home wouldn’t have been as bad! Then the Buck started to get passed around!
Hydrex really doesn’t care about your home or you!!! It’s about all about them!
Don’t waste your time or money!

I basically only write very positive reviews. If a company is average, or not great, I normally just don’t bother saying anything at all. However this one is different. I could write a non-​fiction, coffee table-​sized book about how, in my personal opinion, Hydrex of San Diego County is a terrible company — but what’s the point? They’ve already caused me considerable financial expense, wasted time and stress — and they nearly derailed the sale of my property, which I had paid them to service for the better part of 10 years. The fact that they took my money and didn’t do their maintenance work well is the least of their sins.
It’s been my experience that most incompetent, unprofessional companies like Hydrex of San Diego County only passively or unintentionally hurt their customers; mostly through carelessness, ignorance, or a lack of organization. Hydrex of San Diego County does those guys one better. They can, if you make them angry, actively and vindictively try to hurt you financially; such as in my case, when I insisted that they perform per their contract as part of the wood and pest clearance required for the sale of property in California.
Bottom line, in my opinion these guys are evil — no other word better describes this company. If you have the misfortune of finding yourself in a business transaction with Hydrex of San Diego, run in the opposite direction. This review is entirely my personal opinion, so take it for what it’s worth — and good luck.

I hired them because they do termite elimination using an electro gun rather that poison. They came in, did an estimate, and had someone out the following week to do the job. It took a while (three or four hours), but there was no poison involved, which was good for me and my animals.
In addition to the initial service, for $ 275 a year, they do annual inspections and spot treatments, plus if any signs of termites appear in between they will come out free of charge and do spot treatments. I have not had to do a whole-​house treatment since the original one. They are A#1 in my book.

We had been putting off fumigating our home for termites for the past two years because of the hassle of moving out for a few days and all that goes with tenting your home. But it was time, it had to be done! So I got a recommendation for Hydrex, and for Darryl Hargett specifically, and let me just say that Darryl is THE BEST! He’s prompt, courteous and friendly, and he made tenting our home as easy as it could possible be. He delivered extra bags to our doorstep because we had so much to bag in our kitchen; he took care of arranging for SDG&E to switch off/​on our gas; and his crew came exactly on time to tent, and exactly on time to remove the tent, and the crew took a lot of care to ensure our plants weren’t mangled during the tenting process. For a service that’s usually an ordeal to go through, Darryl and Hydrex made our fumigation experience as pleasant as possible!
