Awesome experience! I went to see Dr. Matson today and it was a very pleasant experience. How often do people say that about the Dr?! I was seen on time (which rarely happens at Dr. offices) and the staff was extremely friendly. Excited I finally found a Dr. in SD!

Nothing but positive stuff to say about Dr. Matson.
Front of office staff very flexible and responsive, both with me and my pain in the rear insurance.
I’ve never had to wait more than 5 minutes for my appointment.
I do not feel rushed at all during the appointment and have actually had a relaxed conversation with Dr. Matson, something few doctors will allow in their schedules.
He caught something my G.P. missed, and saved me months of mismanaging a sprained wrist that turned out to be torn ligaments.
Plenty of free parking!

I have to admit. Dr. Matson is a true professional and I’ve had a great experience so far. I’ve been dealing a few troubling issues with my knee/​MCL and Dr. Matson was great with giving me care. I also was given Xrays, physical therapy, and anti-​inflammatory medication. Some of which were done with a 3^rd party but still, their offices made sure I was covered properly and not once did i have to pay all of these separate co payments. Their offices were very clear on all of the instructions I had to take and were right on it whenever they received anything from me. Wait time has never been more than 5 minutes and everyone in their staff is knowledgeable and caring. I highly recommend Dr. Matson as your primary care physician.

Pros:
* Appointment started only 1 min late. I get the sense that they generally keep a strict schedule, which is awesome.
* His staff printed out pages from
relevant to my concerns. This was surprisingly helpful because I’m sure I read more since it was handed to me on paper than I would have if he’d just said «Read XYZ article on the Mayo Clinic website».
* Upon my request, his staff mailed me my blood test results very quickly.
* Free parking.
* Short drive from my place in PB.
Cons:
* Patients are required to sign away the right to sue. (What a wonderful way to start off a relationship! «Here, promise you won’t sue me if I hurt you.»)
* The faucet in the exam room was the most disgusting I’ve ever seen. Something seemed to be growing on it so much that I wouldn’t be surprised if no water could come out… it looked plugged up. Why would a doctor tolerate that filth and unhealthiness?
* He told me that he didn’t care that my insurance company said that he should charge me a lower rate for preventive aspects of my visit. So, the fact that I asked about pain that I’d been having (i.e. that I couldn’t tell him «I feel totally great») hiked up the cost a LOT even though most of the visit was preventive in nature, and that portion should have been covered completely by my plan. The way Dr. Matson billed me differs from the way my insurance company *said* he should have billed me, and I’m the one who suffers. That’s not a very classy or caring move (and especially to then call me «dishonest» on Unilocal). I was just trying to navigate the complicated world of healthcare and insurance with him, and he became abrupt and cold.
* Their forms ask for lots of irrelevant sensitive info (driver license copy, mother maiden name, social security number). That’s annoying and doesn’t help anything.
* They don’t accept American Express.
* They give you papers that look like they are photocopies of photocopies of photocopies from the first printer ever invented. None of his staff can just re-​type it and save the document digitally and then always print out a fresh clean copy? Not a positive indicator.
* UPDATE: I just got a bill 73 days (!) after my appointment. A very confusing bill with no explanations of anything that happened and why the amount I paid at the office (which was a lot) didn’t cover everything. I’ll pay it, but that’s just plain annoying.

Yes, Dr. Matson is the best doctor I’ve ever had. I been a patient since 2003 and he’s really kind and very attentive. The staff is wonderful and caring as well. The office is small and personable, unlike the huge corporate medical offices. I don’t have any insurance right now but they gave me a discount since I’ve been a patient for some time.
Give him a try if you’re looking for a doctor!

Have used Dr. Matson for about 2 years. The office is very helpful and responsive, and I agree I never have to wait. Also they have been very accommodating about finding an appointment slot for me very quickly when needed.

I have had Dr Matson as my DO for over 20 years. He is outstanding and has always done a professional job and evaluation of my medical problems. He is on time and I never have to wait very long to see him, maybe 5 — 10 min’s at most. He is very friendly and easy going! I highly recommend Dr Matson to all! Lt Col Brooke

I’m not removing anything and I’d appreciate if Dr Matson wouldn’t try and put bad reviews about my business on Unilocal unless he plans on coming in and actually shopping here. I don’t care if he reviews my business but I’d appreciate it if he has actually been here before he decides his opinion on it. As you can see Unilocal was notified of his dishonest remarks and his reviews were flagged and removed for violating the Terms of Service. My reviews are still up btw because they are actual opinions and true statements. If he wants to preach about business ethics maybe he should look in the mirror first. I’m not a bully, I’m a customer who had a bad experience. Is that such a crime that he needs to attack me personally and professionally? I’m always reminded of a scripture when people overlook their own actions and judge others. Matthew 7:3

Based on the reviews, I called Dr. Matson and was shocked that they scheduled me — a new patient — for TODAY. I figured it would take two weeks to get in and I would have to go to urgent care today. So this is a good start for a new doctor/​patient relationship.

If you have any kind of back pain Dr Matson is your guy. Aside from being a family doctor, he is an Osteopathic doctor who offers prolotherapy and prp therapy.(Thats the treatment Tiger Woods used to fix his knee)
I have never had to wait more than five minutes to see him. That is rare to see. Most doctors try to squeeze in as many patients as they can. Its nice to see a doctor who really cares about his patients and who personally returns calls.

I had my first visit last week and am stoked to have finally found a doctor that I like.
The office staff is friendly and efficient. The wait time was minimal.
Dr Matson is personable and seems very competent. He gave me sound health advice, wrote me a prescription that took care of my issue, quickly responded and cleared everything up when I had an issue at the pharmacy, and followed up with me after my referral appointment.
I chose him because of the other Unilocal reviews and am glad that I checked they steered me the right way. Thanks!

Small practice, shares an office with an acupuncturist. Very patient oriented, never feel rushed during appointments. Doesn’t over book, never had to wait more than 5 minutes for an appointment. Very helpful office staff.
