American Cancer Society Discovery Shop

I am a big thrifter. My first visit here and wow great brands. Yes higher than say Salvation army or Goodwill BUT I got some super nice items including winter boots from Lands End and some other designer brands. Definately will return when in area. Excellent presentation, especially at the holidays.

Been coming here since they first recently opened the store. Prices have gone up ever since! It is a thrift store so it shouldn’t be so pricey for used clothes, jewelery, furniture, etc.

Such a friendly staff! The ladies that were working when I decided to come in for a quick stop were very pleasant and welcoming! Not only was the staff top-​notch but also the quality of the items sold here. I scored a pair of black Tahari slacks for only 7 bucks! What a steal! This was my first time coming here and definitely not my last. And what a great cause to support!

#1– rather difficult to find with less-​than-​stellar signage.
#2– very meager selection (almost nothing in the men’s clothing section) and I find that perplexing because I know that lots of people donate to the American Cancer Society, therefore someone is dropping the ball somewhere.
#3– the women’s clothing items are all things that I, personally, wouldn’t wear myself, but I could picture on my grandmother. I’m guessing that the items in the store have been chosen by women «of a certain age» and therefore they are choosing what appeals to them
#4– Most items are entirely overpriced. I understand that all of the proceeds are going towards the ACS, that’s all well and good, but this stuff was donated to you all and you’re asking top-​dollar used prices here like what a delusional consignment stores want. With the location and selection being what it is, I see this as counterproductive if the goal is to sell things. Between you and me I’ve found better stuff for free in the alley behind my house– just sayin’.
the good? store was easy to get around in– a meager stock meant plenty of room to flip through the racks in comfort, god-​willing that you find anything worth taking home.

Best location to buy clothes, furniture and jewelry. You contribute to the cancer society, and you buy good quality clothes at great prices. I love this place, the staff is always friendly and willing to help you. it is a small store but you always find a wonderful piece to take home. Take a look and you won’t regret it!!!

Today I spotted some great Red Wing vintage dishes for a very reasonable price. I would have grabbed them but I’m on a dish hiatus… well more like a sabbatical. I digress…
Instead I picked up a gigantic cherry red squatty lamp with black or navy shade for $ 16. It was sold «As Is» and needs some hardware fixings but is a total steal! Maybe needs about $ 10 worth of repairs.
I saw the SAME one sell on Etsy for $ 145 ON SALE during Xmas time, it was normally $ 175! Eek. Hipsters with high prices are scary!
The women running the shop are sweet and helpful and the store gets very nice donations of all kinds all the time. They have dressing rooms and ocassionally mark down their items.
This is basically a womens store so sorry dudes and brosephs, you’ll have slim pickings for clothes… However, the Discovery Shop has something for everyone– Man or Woman, Young or Old, Rich or Poor.

Best thrift store around! Totally organized! High-​end brand name designers offered!

Sometimes to get a deal, we go to the deep dark dregs of the earth in our quests to procure seemingly unattainable delights. We don’t mind pilfering through rubbish in a bin while we sweat it out reaching for that Tupperware green «2 piece numbah». The one with the cheese shredder on the top that mom had when we made those 70’s tacos at home the nights dad was out. We shredded a little lettuce, and cheese and cut up some tomatoes and we shoved some ground beef in a crispy taco shell and we called it «Mexican».
I’m a seasoned wizard when rummaging through vinyl remnants in pursuit of hot guitar licks. Often record covers are so bloody filthy it calls for the «double squippee squippee» cleansing hand method. If you’ve shamed yourself in those sloppy little stores like myself, you know the sound that comes from a vigorous hand scrubbing.
You will not need the «squippee squippee» cleansing hand method at The Discovery Store.
It has to be the most untrodden garden variety thrift shop I’ve seen. We have here a well detailed store you might find things like old Jazz 45’s, stylish clothes from this decade, miscellaneous rarities, and kitchen appliances you’d ONLY give away to an organization that you felt really deserved an almost brand new toaster.

Warren Zevon had a wicked wit which was silenced by lung cancer when he was 56. Cancer is America’s number 2 killer and sadly, almost everyone knows someone whose life was cut short.
While, you personally may not be able to find a cure, wield a scalpel or donate huge scads of money there is something that you can do, «shop». The Discovery Shop is a thrift store run by the American Cancer Society. When you spend money there you fund cancer research, education and provide services for cancer patients. Every woman has had a clothing crisis, «Like, Oh my Gawd ! I have nothing to wear to the High School Reunion.» The clothing, of course must reflect the lofty area in society that we exist in with our Mercedes, Louis Vuitton purses, Jimmy Choo shoes and designer clothing. We think this, as we exit Payless Shoe Stores clutching our Merona purse and jiggling the keys to our Hundai Sonata. This is where the Discovery Shop can help you with their sale of high quality, gently used clothing. For $ 25 you can purchase a Diane Von Furstenberg silk dress which retails new for about $ 300. They also have had Coach, Prada and other designer bags at a decent price. So you may not have a million dollars but you can show your smarts, by paying a lot less for some fine captalistic goods.
They have furniture, books, pictures and jewelry also. The prices are a bit higher then most thrift stores but about right for a «Boutique» thrift store. The store hours are M-​F 10 – 6, Sat. 10 – 5 and Sun. 12 – 4. Warren Zevon prior to discovering that he was terribly ill wrote, «Don’t let us get sick. Don’t let us get old. Don’t let us get stupid, all right? Just make us be brave and make us play nice. And let us be together tonight.» Words to live and die by, which Warren Zevon did. A better picture is him strolling into the sunset warbling, «I saw a werewolf drinking a piña colada at Trader Vics — His hair was perfect… Ah-​ooo, werewolves of London…»
The staff is really very nice but one woman was rather disturbing when she complained about how the seals at the Children’s Pool were bringing down property values… huh?
