The Cake Queens

Wow, the cake was Amazing!!! They are not only bakers, but they are artists! It was my son’s 5^th birthday and we had a Star Wars themed party. The Cake Queens created a stunning cake. The cake had R2D2, C3PO, Yoda, Darth Vader, and Luke. The party guests were very impressed. And to top it off, the cake was yummy! If you want a spectacular cake, go to the Cake Queens.

I usually don’t write reviews for many places or any places for that matter. But I was so impressed at how beautiful my sons birthday cake and my daughter’s baptism cake came out I had to write a review. I truly appreciate the hard work and amazing artistry that Tara and the team at the Cake queens have. They truly are the Queens. bravo!

This review is well overdue.
Tara and Jade made two cakes for me — one for my younger son’s 1^st birthday last summer, and another for my older son’s 4^th this spring. Both cakes were delicious, well made, on time, and absolutely beautiful. Not to mention that we never manage to finish them, so I just freeze the rest as a memory (usually the cool decoration part)
For the baby cake I brought a photo of my son’s favorite lovie — a stuffed giraffe, and they recreated the toy on top of the cake 1:1. I trusted them with the design as I wasn’t sure how exactly it will work or look like in terms of creating a giraffe out of fondant, and I was very pleased to see the result. I only gave them my preferences for the color scheme and flavor, which was followed correctly.
The second cake was superhero themed, for which I brought the party invite and they recreated two of the «off-​brand» superhero characters on the side of the cake. It was super yummy (the fondant is so thick and rich) red velvet with cream cheese and vanilla filling. The only thing I can point out as a flaw was that the layers were a bit too thick and slightly dry, so the pieces sort of fell apart as we cut the cake. We didn’t really care (the party was loud and fun and we didn’t look at the cake, we ATE it) so I can’t complain and I will order from them again.

There’s no doubt this place is talented with the cakes they make. My baby shower cake was made here, looked and tasted amazing. (Attached) the other day I went in myself to order a cake for my dads surprise 60^th, and the lady seemed very rude, very cold. Was not welcoming. If I didn’t know the quality of their work I would’ve walked out. Maybe she had a rough day.

I got my son’s second birthday cake from here and this was the best cake ever. It was the most beautiful barnyard theme cake. They replicated my sample design perfectly and my guests were just amazed at how beautiful it looked. The best part is it also tasted awesome. We had three favors — red velvet, banana caramel and chocolate Oreo and all were great.
The customer service was really good. Jade promptly replied to emails and Tara heard all my concerns and promised that the cake would satisfy my expectations. Well, it did and I am surely going back for my next cake order:) thanks so much.

I am really impressed with the cake that The Cake Queens made for my baby shower. I had given them a design off of the internet with a few customizations that I requested, and it turned out to be better than what I had expected. The flavor I had asked for was red velvet and cream cheese frosting and I am very happy with that choice. The taste was perfectly balanced — not too sweet and the design came out to be amazing. Would definitely order from them again. Thank you Cake Queens for making such a lovely cake!

It took me a year to write this review because I really liked the women that run this place, but I finally need to air my bad experience with the actual cake itself .
It was for my wedding last May, and we had gone to the tasting and it went great. I had sent them a picture of what I wanted and it was a super simple hobnail .
But when we had gotten the cake on the wedding day the design was off to what I had asked for .
The cake itself did not taste anything like the samples .
The middle was suppose to have the lemon curd and instead only had a little and the rest buttercream. The other chocolate part had hardly any filling too. Instead more buttercream. The cake was not even close to being moist and was hard.
I was supper disappointed and sad on my wedding day. The cake was the only thing that I really wanted to be great, and it was not even close. The taste and texture was so off from what we first sampled.
We payed really good money for the cake and it was a huge letdown.

My sis plans to get my nephews bday cake from here. Yesterday we tried some samples here. We got the banana, Oreo, strawberry and red velvet. The portions were huge. 5 adults and a kid could try the cake. Loved all. So excited for the actual bday cake.

We got our wedding cake from here… Hands down, one of the best cakes we have ever seen! Our guest told us the cake was delicious! And loved everything about it. It was perfect! We are extremely thankful and happy with their work. They are very talented! :)

Tara made a beautiful cake for my parent’s 50^th Anniversary Party yesterday and it turned out beautiful. Tara charged reasonable prices for really beautiful cakes for those special occasions. For milestone celebrations, I would definitely go back to her. We worked with Jade to figure out the details. The design of the cake was based on previous cake that Tara made. We needed gold with the beading. The cake was yummy and I definitely have a sweet tooth. I would say that the only thing is that if your family is used to the Chinese bakery cake sweetness, then you need to let Tara know to take the sweetness down just a tad. But I like it more on the sweet side.

Cake queens have definitely earned their name!
I ordered a cake from here for my sons 1^st birthday party. A friend of mine recommended them to me. I must admit, I was a little apprehensive only because I’ve had cakes that were beautiful but completely lacked in flavor, and the baker I normally go to was on maternity leave.
But I went ahead and ordered and it was the best thing I could have done!
Jade was completely helpful from the very beginning, was very prompt in responding to my dozens of emails regarding changes on guest count, budget and such!
They exceeded my expectations! The cake was incredibly detailed from the scales on the dinosaurs to the fern leaves, magnifying glass and every change that I requested! They were incredible!
And that was only the outside.
The cake itself was the most delicious cake I have ever had. Our cake consisted of 3 tiers, first tier was marble cake with cappuccino filling. The cake was moist and held together so well! The cappuccino filling was amazing and not too sweet at all. Even the buttercream that glues the fondant to the cake was tasty! Yes, tasty buttercream!
The second tier was red velvet with strawberries and whipped cream filling. Again, moist cake and delicious filling!
Now, the last tier was a chocolate cake and an Oreo filling. I can not possibly put into words how amazing this was! I was in Oreo heaven! The cake was literally melt in your mouth delicious and the chocolate flavor was incredible, nothing like any chocolate cake I have ever had! The filling tasted like Oreos dunked in milk, AMAZING!
I have already recommended so many people and I know where I will be getting all my future cakes from now on!

After researching for a local baker for my husband’s 50^th birthday, I narrowed it down to 3 bakers and decided on The Cake Queens. I’m so glad I did.
The design was exactly what I wanted for him and even more! Angela came up with the great idea of adding flames for my football loving/​old school rocker husband and even made a guitar that looks just like his! THE CAKE was the talk of the party. The cake itself was superb, everyone wanted to take some home to have more later. Most fondant does not taste good but even this was great.
It was well worth the money and he said it was the BEST BIRTHDAY EVER. Thank you so much Cake Queens. You guys ROCK!

I found The Cake Queens through Unilocal and their tons of 5 star reviews and great reputation. After searching many cake places for a Lego theme party I decided to make an order. It was a convenient location with friendly staff. My sons Lego cake looked and tasted amazing! Everyone was so fascinated by it. It was beautifully done! We ordered Strawberry Cake with fresh strawberries and Nutella buttercream. (No joke) I kept eating it! The portion was also a great size. I thought I would need more cake but we had a lot leftover! I DEFINATELY RECCOMMEND this place if your are looking for not just a pretty cake but one that taste good as well, let me tell you that could be hard with fondant cakes! Looking forward to my next event and custom order by cake queens!

Not only was I accommodated last minute, but the thought and execution was perfection! My rat cake was created for my Naked and Afraid premier of «All or Nothing» season 5. I was blown away at the crunch it had (like bones) with red velvet in the center and raspberry jam like blood. I will only use Tara

I went to the Cake Queen’s, based on a recommendation from another vendor. I wanted to do something different, instead of the traditional wedding shower cake, for my nieces shower. I decided on a candy table, with the addition of cookies, cupcakes and cake pops. Tara and Angela were wonderful. I explained to them that my niece’s shower colors were Mint Green, White and Gold. «Country Chic». They may these amazing cookies, three dozen of them, shaped like wedding cakes, decorated beautifully. So beautiful, that it was a shame to even eat them. But they were absolutely delicious tasting… I received so many compliments on how good they were.
Now, let’s move on to the cupcakes, I ordered five dozen, chocolate with a white buttercream frosting. OMG ! the best cupcakes I’ve ever eaten… The cupcakes were rich and moist but not to sweet, chocolate flavored. Topped off with a very high quality and delicious buttercream frosting, decorated perfectly…
All and all, there artistry made my nieces wedding shower candy table a big success, complements all-​around. I would recommend the Cake Queens to anyone, no matter what the occasion.

It honestly took me MONTHS to write this review because I honestly don’t like to give folks bad names when it comes to their livelihood and business. However, being that my wedding was Aug 16^th and multiple people encouraged me to write a write, as well as for my wedding I personally counted on reviews when faced with a decision between multiple vendors…
I decided to write this review after all.
Upon initially contacting The Cake Queens, Tara was so sweet… I was able to send her photos of types of wedding cakes I liked and she sent me photos of cakes she has made in the past. AWESOME!!! I was excited… she could do exactly what I needed done, at a fraction of what others were charging AND HER WORK WAS FREAKING AWESOME!!! I figured by her photos I was working with a professional so at a time with high stress levels, I thought I could count on my cake (at least) looking just as flawless as I was on my wedding day. WRONG!!!
Tasting went well… LOVED LOVED the work she was showing me… Deposit paid no questions asked.
NOW for Aug 16^th (day of my wedding) Tara the shop owner of «The Cake Queens» met to drop off the cake so it could be transported to my venue. Not even 15 mins after the cake exchange THE FREAKING CAKE (reminiscing make me actually want to say a cuss word) starts to melt… YES MELT!!!
OMG talk about people being in complete chaos… MY PLANNER, MY MOTHER, MY SISTER, MY MAID OF HONOR… ALL RUNNING AROUND TRYING TO FIND A REPLACEMENT ON A SUNDAY… BEFORE THE WEDDING STARTED IN 3 HOURS…
Ill include photos of what my AFTER was of the cake… being that It was only in our possession for mins… I have no idea what it looked like before…
for anyone who may want to know, we found a fake cake to take our photos with… my wonderful florist was bale to make a disaster into a beautiful ending…
Tara… she offered me $ 100 refund which I feel i should get all back other than the travel fee… being that I was not able to use the cake at all during my wedding… Because of the way this all ended I could & would never refer this company to a friend… BAD BUSINESS

Since starry night is my favorite painting I decided I needed that type of cake for my flirty 30! I knew I could count on the cake queens after having their cupcakes at a baby shower and seeing the pictures on their website of their wonderful work.
Sure enough they went over and beyond my expectations and my cake was unbelievably beautiful! Everyone was ooh-​ing and ahh-​ing. Thanks so much cake queens for making my flirty 30 cake as fabulous as me!

Working with Tara and Jade was a joy from beginning to end!
They patiently and promptly answered all our questions and concerns, and made a fantastic cake that was one of the highlights of my big birthday celebration! Not only did the cake look great, it tasted great as well — even several days later!
If we ever need a cake for a special occasion, there’s no doubt that we will contact Cake Queens again!

This review is definitely long overdue. I cannot even begin to describe how amazing Tara is at what she does. I’ve ordered three cakes from her already, one for my husband’s 30^th birthday, one for my nieces 1^st birthday, and one for our wedding, and all of them have been absolutely beautiful. Not only do her cakes look awesome, but the actual flavor and the taste of her cakes are to die for. She really pays great attention to detail, and definitely exceeded my expectations and more.
I also have to give credit to Jade, her sister, who handles all the emails. Thank you Jade for all of your timely replies and keeping on top of everything! You two make a dynamic duo :)

The Most AMAZING cakes I have ever seen! I’m obsessed with the cakes they make! My husband got me a Mac cosmetics cake for my birthday and everyone was taking pictures of the cake and forgot all about me lol I didn’t want to cut my cake! I didn’t want share! All I wanted to do was stick in the freezer and save it forever!
This weekend I got my second cake from them. It was for my cousins babyshower. Everyone was amazed by the cake AGAIN! This one looked so unreal the mommy to be didn’t want to cut it (btw both parents got very emotional when they saw the cake). The flavor was incredible top tier: tiramisu Middle tier: marble and custard bottom tier: red velvet. The cake was so moist and not too sweet like other cakes I’ve tried! It was just perfect!

Update: This was my second cake from the cake queens. So awesome! Detail in every aspect of the cake which is perfect for someone like me who notices every small thing. Angela again was great from the beginning with all the details to the end with the cake being picked up. The cake was packaged up nice for transportation from San Carlos to Sacramento. Very sturdy and most of all very delicious. Thank you!

There are a few moments of childhood that one will remember… Birthday cakes should be one of them!
Tara never ceases to amaze me. Not only are her cakes beautiful but they are also delish! We have been ordering cakes from Tara for going on 5 years now. She is the best, and people are always amazed by her work.
Our kids are sure to remember their birthday cakes for years to come!

I’m pretty picky about cakes and upon opening it up, proceeded to inspect for any lumps/​bumps but couldn’t find any. Work is super clean and symmetrical. That’s skills!

I’m a little Type A. Ok, more like A LOT…
If I’m on time – I’m late, I would be lost without my to-​do list at work, and in my eyes, e-​v-​e-​r-​y-​t-​h-​i-​n-​g is urgent so I often attempt to juggle 3 – 4 things at once. Except at [most] times, I’m not very successful. Oppsie, did I sent that «TMI» text to le boss? Yep, I did. Now, let me spend the rest of the day obsessing about my phuck up. *le sigh*
Three years ago, when I was planning Mr. NSS’ first group birthday dinner, I was determined to find a kick ass custom cake. After going through about pages upon pages of Unilocal listings from San Francisco to San Jose and contacting five, I was in despair because these places wanted a $ 250 minimum for a freakin’ custom cake… that fed 10 people!?! Luckily, I found Tara from Tara’s Piece of Cake:
. She’s a complete god sent and has put my Type A ass to ease in the last several years.
Mr. NSS’ birthday was rolling around again in May so I contacted Tara in March. Come to find out from her sister who assists in answering her emails that Tara now owns and is partner of her own bakery: The Cake Queens. I’ve never met Tara but through our email exchanges and phone calls over the past several years, I know she was baking cakes as a side job because she was working full-​time AND is a full-​time mommy. I’m so happy that she can now fully commit to her passion because she’s amazingly talented.
As mentioned in my review of her old business, I suggest contacting her at least a month’s in advance for a custom cake order. Wedding season is rolling around so I suggest contacting her even earlier. Have your sample pictures/​sketches ready to send two weeks prior to when you need the cake. Delivery is available (quoted $ 40 to SF). Below is a list of cake flavors:
*Red Velvet with cream cheese frosting
*Vanilla or chocolate w/​fresh strawberries (also fresh strawberries & bananas combo)

Tara made a Giants themed cake the first year and a 49ers themed cake the second year for Mr. NSS’ birthday. Being a huge boxing fanatic, I thought a boxing cake would be appropriate this year. After several weeks of looking for sample boxing cake images, I settled on two. I sent the images and requested that certain components be taken from each image. Being a cray cray, Type A, I, of course didn’t like some of the color schemes from the pictures, so I requested that they be changed to a different color.
Not only did Tara deliver (again), she made birthday boy incredibly happy:
. Mr. NSS can often be a man of very little words and he even commented that it was the «best boxing birthday cake» he’s ever seen. We had his group birthday dinner at Kokkari in SF and our waiter said, it was the best cake he’s EVER seen that someone brought to the restaurant. This is coming from a restaurant that has over 3,200 reviews on Unilocal!
Rest assured that the cake tastes as good as it looks. I’m not a fan of American cakes because they tend to be too dense and heavy but Tara’s cakes are light and moist, and the cream is not overwhelmingly sweet. I’ve tried about 5 different flavors (several of my friends also ordered a cake from Tara after I raved about her) and Tiramisu is my favorite.
That night, I posted a picture of Mr. NSS’ Birthday Cake on FB and one of my high school buddies contacted me and said, that coincidentally Tara was also baking his wedding cake!
Me: «I can’t wait to see J’s wedding cake in August because she’s totally going to bake ours!»
