The supermarket was quite nice and the service was good but the food court really was nothing to desire at all especially the Chinese food was horrible the worst I’ve ever eaten in my life. But other than that it was ok

I haven’t experienced any issues at this location, but the store is a dump. The produce department is the only part of the store that looks fairly decent. This store is definitely due for a remodel. I hear it’s supposed to have one within the next few months, I would suggest they get on it.

I really wanted to approach this review from a place of rational thought, like «What can I say about a grocery store? Certainly I’ve been to hundreds before…» but really, given the experience I just had in the five minutes I was in this store, I can’t.
I am working up at my organization’s San Carlos location today and really just wanted to get a frozen meal to microwave in the breakroom. The store is a pretty standard Lucky and the frozen food section is somewhat expansive real estate-​wise but I found it hard to pick something to purchase because the selection of everything was limited. Quantity over quality, eh? There were maybe 3 different types of Amy’s brand meals, and everything else was a small variety from brands I am totally unfamiliar with. The whole shopping process was just a frazzle dazzle of hectic sensory stimulation.
When I was ready to check out, 3 other shoppers approached the registers at the same time and we all found that absolutely NONE of the registers had employees at them. Checkstand #2 had a light on, but no one was home. I opted to do self check-​out because I really just wanted to leave, but behind me it sounded like the staff was fighting amongst themselves about who’s on first.
Needless to say, I’m kind of glad this isn’t my friendly neighborhood grocery store.

I have been shopping here at least weekly 20 years for a family of 5.
The past couple of months my husband was saying he thought the employees were bringing the company down. I did not agree. Some people I have known for years.
But the last few times I went there. I was treated like crap. When I complained the manager looked at me and walked away.
The last straw for me was the nagger put my vegetables in with the cleaner. When I said something he asked if anything was broken??? I said no he walked away. I walked out. I have been trying the different Safeway’s even though the are farther away. Very nice people.
Not sure if I will go back at this point.

Went to buy some steaks and couldn’t decide which one to get. Luckily juan carlos was at the meat department he gave us some recomendations on meat and spices. We did what he said and i gotta say it tasted a whole lot better then espensive steak house meats. Thanks juan. Excellent costumer service

How rude! I was just checking out while a manager was walking in and out of the check stand next to mine in order to get cash or something. In order for her to do this, I had to move my cart each time for her to squeeze through. I finally decided to move my cart out of the aisle because the person behind me was almost finished as I was still waiting for my grocery bagging to finish. As I moved out of the aisle she was also moving out and the fact that I was following her apparently annoyed her and she looked up and me and then shook her redhead in disgust! Seriously? What happened to customer service? I will talk to a manager about her attitude if I see it again!

Lucky rocks! Would I buy meat here? No (quality questionable)! Veggies? No (overpriced). BUT I would buy Walden Farms chocolate and maple syrup ALL the time! This stuff is a godsend for anyone doing a pre-​contest diet or just trying to lose a few pounds. Hint hint: calorie free is the key! Thank you for stocking this. I’ll be coming here often for this stuff.

I have been in this store twice and I am new to the Bay area. I didn’t know about getting a «lucky you card» and was refused member prices when I checked out on the first occasion. The second time I came in was today and I spoke to a manager about signing up for a card.
This is how the conversation went:
Manager, «A card?»
Me, «A lucky you card.»
Manager, «You can only sign up for that online now.»
Me, «What if someone just stops by the store and wants to sign up for one?»
Manager, «You can’t do that anymore. You should still be able to shop and check out with club prices though.»
Me, «Really, because when I was here last week I was overcharged and refused access to use the store card for deals.»
Manager, «No, that’s not how it works.»
I actually told him today that «it’s okay, I will just shop somewhere else,» and left because of the attitude I was receiving. I also felt like he didn’t know what card I was talking about (a manager should know what a store card is, one would think). This was my second and last time in a Lucky chain grocery store. Customer service here, from a managerial standpoint, is not to serve and help the customer, but instead to argue, debate and defend. Real customer support is to make the customer feel welcomed and right, as well as to serve them in a genuine, helpful way. I felt like he was challenging my previous encounter and experience shopping in this store.

I swear, the Bay Area really needs to step up their game when it comes to grocery stores. You’d think that chains would be just fine but I find myself thinking that most grocery stores in the Bay Area are just not that pleasant to shop in.
The interior is clean, but it feels slightly dated and there is not that much variety in its stock (especially in produce).
I also got back and found that the cheese I purchased had a sell by date of May 2015, and now it’s well into June. I thought it was illegal for grocery stores to sell products by the sell by date?
Also the self checkout is limited to 15 items or fewer. What kind of restriction is that?

This Lucky’s blows. San Carlos Lucky’s, why u so BASIC? Selection is super limited. Don’t waste your time. Stick to Safeway in RWC.

This is my neighborhood grocery store, but I use it only for canned goods and similar items that don’t have to be handled with care. The prices are reasonable for those things. Most of the time when I buy «fresh» food here, I end up regretting it.

Lucky’s here has a bakery, sammie section, and Rice Garden (chinese food to go)
beers not so much, mostly six packs, micros and such.

I hate to give such a bad rating but something needs to change at this Lucky. This place appears dirty, I can never find someone working that can answer my questions, there does not seem to be any order in the store and the prices are way too high! Come on this is San Carlos. Spend the money update the store, smile and try to act like you want customers!
I’ve never heard anything but bad things about this store, so I really think it’s time to change! For now I will not be shopping there!

I purchased some crabs here that made me and my girlfriend very sick! We ate them the day after purchased and should not have eaten them at all…
Not only were they foul tasting, but smelt of ammonia. Guy working behind counter said he had only been working there two weeks…

NOTE TO THE STORE MANAGER: I was buying Belgian Endives (I’m from Belgium and I love them) and the posted price was $ 3.99 per pound. I was going to splurge so I filled two plastic bags with the endives and after completing my shopping went to a checkout station. The checkout person informed me that the endives were $ 3.99 EACH! I told her that she was incorrect. And since she would not believe me I went and retrieved the posted pricing tag, which clearly read $ 3.99 per pound. She then went and spoke to another employee (presumably a supervisor) and that lady came out and told me that she would not honor that price for all of my endives. She would just give me a pound for $ 3.99 and for the rest I would have to pay $ 3,99 each. I argued with her that the price posted should be honored but she stood by her offer and would not budge.
PLEASE BE ADVISED OF THE FOLLOWING: A price tag on a shelf is an advertisement of the price for the item and charging a different price or giving you a different item than the one advertised is a type of fraud called «False Advertising» and may fall under «unfair and deceptive business practices.» Some states have laws that require the merchant using a scanner to honor the lower of two disputed prices or face administrative penalties from the AG’s office of consumer protection (or the like). Lucky’s staff needs lessons in the law and better customer relations.
I will not shop in that Lucky market again..

I am going to give you 4 Stars with your Option to improve it to a 5 on this Review.
I was in The SC Lucky’s last Sunday to grab a couple of Bottles of Wine and some Kitty Litter. I had just grabbed the Wine and was on my way over to the Pet Aisle when Eureka! I spotted some Jars of «Small» Pacific Shucked Oysters.

I love Oysters and do buy the Jolly Roger «Mediums» when I need a Fix. There are usually only 3 to 5 of those Beasts per Jar which I cut into 3 Pieces each to simulate «Smalls» or better still «Extra Smalls».
Lucky’s had The Pacific Seafood «Searock» Brand «Small» Oysters in the Cold Case. I grabbed two Jars because I knew that one would just not be enough.
I was visiting my Mom in Tigard Oregon in February and found «Extra Smalls» in there Cold Case. I bought 3 Jars & my Mother and I enjoyed a great Mess of Pan Fried Oysters for Dinner that evening.
Last night I prepared Oysters 2 ways. If I can figure out how to post some Pics to Unilocal,I will.
One Jar was made into some Sunny Select Panko Crumb Crusted PFO’S & the other Jar became a cross between Oysters Rockefeller & Florentine.
I was in Heaven and the net result of my eating 16 ounces of Oysters made my Girlfriend pretty happy as well.
Smalls cost more than Med’s and Extra Smalls cost more than Smalls.
Lucky’s Seafood Buyers especially in our area here in San Carlos should understand that people will pay a little more the the Best in Quality! If you stocked Extra Smalls I would be your Best Oyster Buying Customer. Along with that I would Tell & Sell all of my Friends on Smalls and or Extra Smalls.
I am pretty good at promoting Products that I like. Ask the Wine Buyer in San Carlos what has happened to the Sales of Concannon Vineyards «Crimson and Clover» Red Wine Blend in the last several Months…
Though I had as yet to prepare the ones that I had bought last Sunday the 23^rd I was ready to reload and get 2 or 3 more Jars for my Stash.
Alas, they were out! I asked the Seafood Guy if they had anymore in the back. He told me no, but he thought more may be coming in next Week.
I hope so to say the least.
Throw the Dice and see if you end up having a hard time keeping «Extra Smalls» on the Shelf.
A promotion with some Sunny Select Panko Crusted Pan Fried Oysters would blow a whole shipment of Oysters let alone a bunch of Tarter & Cocktail Sauces out the Door.
Pair that up with a Wine Promotion and your «Star» Count averages on Unilocal will be on the Climb.

Ugh. I live down the street from the place and STILL go to to the next town over to Safeway. This place is so old and their fresh produce is not fresh at all. I was shopping for grapes one day and wanted to try it but then around 20 fruit flies scattered into my face instead. Yuck. I only go here if i REALLY need something and don’t want to drive all the way to Redwood City, but for fresh produce and breads and such I would recommend going to Bianchini’s. The store hasn’t been updated in so long and it really isn’t pleasing at all. I used to go here all the time with my mom for groceries, but for the past 5 – 10 years we switched to Safeway and have been happy ever since.
GOOD:
–Convenient location
–Good variety
–Always parking available
–Self-​checkout area
BAD:
–Fresh items not so fresh
–Outdated
–Does not come close to surrounding Safeway stores

Easy to order party trays. Store opens at 6 am. My Unilocal review is for the deli department only. I had a potluck luncheon for my fellow softball teammates, so I needed to decide the most convenient & semi-​filling lunch to serve. The ladies at the deli were very accommodating & incredibly nice. They were patient with me as I decide what party tray to order. You could either pay on the same day or when you pick-​up your order.
I finally decided on the pinwheel sandwiches. It was a big hit with my teammates! I ordered the large tray of the roast beef, ham & turkey wraps, that were cut into finger-​sandwich size. It only comes with a medium and large trays. I opted for the large tray which was reasonably priced at $ 29.99.
They have many selections of party trays, such as cheese & veggie trays. Perfect for those potluck luncheons or hosting a party.

This place feels a little outdated but when Safeway doesn’t have what I’m looking for, Lucky always does!
I couldn’t find almond butter at Safeway and before driving over to Lucky, decided to call first. The woman who answered was very sweet and after confirming, she said «we have it but it’s ‘chunky’…is that ok?» YES! It was already pretty late and also pouring rain out so I was happy that the trip was well worth it.
To make the story even better, I had texted my Mom while at Safeway saying they didn’t have almond butter. She said she’d stop by Lucky on her way home. Somehow she didn’t get my reply saying I’d go to Lucky myself. She ended up going to Lucky anyway and sure enough the same woman who helped me helped her and made a comment about someone else just coming in for it. They put 2 and 2 together and my Mom said «that was my daughter!» Glad we didn’t end up with 2 jars of almond butter!
