Wyndham San Antonio Riverwalk

This place is a mash up. It has a lot of potential but really needs to make many improvements to get there. Pretty much all the other reviews are right on point. I stayed her for 1 week. The only deal on
was a switch and bait once I arrived. It cost $ 35.00 extra a night for Valet or $ 26.00 to self park. The area can be pretty shady with greyhound bus station and a lot of homeless people camping out of the streets. It is on the riverwalk but very far from any restaurant or business with no direct access to the riverwalk from the hotel. Here are some of the issues I encountered:
1) you have to pay for everything (WiFi at 1 mbps, Bottle Water, Parking, Breakfast, Coffee, etc…)
2) No shuttle service to the convention center or direct access to to the Riverwalk
3) The staff never cleaned the room they cut corners by putting a note on under the door saying we see you did not want to be disturbed so if you want your room refreshed or fresh towels just call the front desk when there was never a sign placed on the door.
4) My first room the tub would not drain and their was black mold on the wall and ceiling in the bathroom. They did give me an upgraded room but that is still unacceptable.
It seems that Wyndham has bought out this property and is slowing making upgrades by nickel and dimeing the current guest in the transition. It does have a full service bar, restaurant and front end staff but just does not deliver with full service amenities. It seems if they shut down for a couple of months and updated the entire hotel, offered shuttle service, remodeled to offer direct access to the river walk to avoid the sketchy street walking to could be a much better hotel… I am here 4 times a year for conferences and businesses and most likely will never stay here again.

Great hospitality. Excellent detailed attention. We stayed at Wyndham for 5 days at the end of January and I’m in love with everything they offer you at this hotel. We ate at the bar a couple of times and honestly, no need to step out and look for any place to drink it or eat; thank you Rick and Rene for the memories and for feeding us and for the nice experiences. We will be back and we hope to see you there when we are back to the city of San Antonio. Wyndham riverwalk you rock”

Well, where to start? Would I stay there again, NO. First room A/​C not working despite the fact the front desk said it was repaired well I was out to dinner. Moved room. Next room the toilet would not shut off. Moved room. Next room worked fine. Next issue was the clean up of the room — not till 3:30 pm. Unacceptable.
This hotel I believe was a Crown Plaza before changing management. Wyndham needs to improve upon the infrastructure of this property.

After reading all of the terrible reviews, we also were prepared for the worst. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and were greeted with the most friendly, helpful bell hop I’ve possibly ever met. Front desk staff were fast, accommodating, and very polite. The room was clean and up to standards. Our A/​C was not blowing cold air around 9:30pm so I called down to front desk and they had maintenance to our room within 10 min to have it fixed. The reason for the 4 stars is the hair in the shower kind of creeped me out, but I can get over that. Be prepared to pay $ 24 for self park as well. Overall, great experience.

So many horrid reviews, left my husband and I second guessing our Groupon purchase. We were truly prepared for the worst as we pulled up to the hotel to check in. Upon arrival, we followed the recommendation of a fellow Unilocaler and requested a room on the 15^th floor. Apparently some floors are more updated than others? In any event, we were completely pleased with our room. It was a little bit larger than the room we had originally booked, but the reservationist gave us the upgrade at no additional cost. The room was modern, spacious, and the bathroom was updated and clean (unlike many of the complaints we read). The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable, and we did indeed have a view of the Riverwalk. We enjoyed not being close to all of the restaurants and action on the Riverwalk… it gave us the opportunity to walk and explore the non-​touristy areas that are quite scenic and not teeming full of crowds.
Our only complaints? The morning front desk gentleman gave us totally wrong directions to a restaurant we were searching for. He seemed so confident he knew where it was, when in fact it was in the opposite direction of all the touristy areas he oriented us towards. Thankfully we figured it out early on. Next time, just admit you’ve never heard of the place.
Second, the hot water ran completely out on Sunday morning, close to check out. I understand this is a busy time, but it’s the first time we’ve experienced this at any hotel. It made for a quick and cold two minute rinse.
Was it enough to rate the hotel poorly? Not at all. We will definitely come back for another visit in the future.

The only reason I’m giving this place 1 star is because you can’t give 0. They hide expenses and the hotel really is not that nice. Like who the hell charges for wifi? They have outrageous parking charges for guests and even make you pay for breakfast.
Where to begin… The receptionist never greeted me. That’s a pretty astounding thing here in Texas. Then they tried to overcharge me for my room. Then once the transaction was completed they never directed me to my room. I just had to wander the place until I found it. When I got to my room there was left over food out, and the bed was dirty, along with used towels in the bathroom. It took them almost an hour to correct. The only reason I didn’t leave is the man who fixed the situation, seemed sincere. I would certainly not recommend going back.
The shower head sucked, there’s no mini fridge and the ice is hard to find. Even the bathrobes aren’t nice.
The number of TV stations is relatively limited.
The hotel is not worth the price you pay. It’s basically a overpriced ramada inn with really cruddy customer service.
I’d like to add that I was there for the marine corps ball and as a venue its not really that great. The space downstairs has horrible visibility, and the bartenders they had were slow as hell. Also during last call the bartenders left the bar to go dance. WTF is the point of last call if there is no bartender?! Seriously…
They also catered our event and the food was really good… But the portions were horrible.
Moral of the story,
This place is cheap and doesn’t put the customer first.

Got bit by bugs, parking in their garage is the most challenging thing in the world plus it’s 23 dollars after u already pay like 200 for a shitty room that doesn’t even have a fridge. Other than the parking issue and bugs and no free breakfast, hotel is nice I guess. I will never choose this hotel again because it’s literally the worst. There are also no vending machines. What hotel doesn’t have vending machines and no free breakfast. They have a gift shop that has snacks and drinks though but their 3.50 for a bottle.

I would just like to thank Genaro Rocha for taking such good care of my mother on her recent stay.
Me. Rocha walked her to the bus station and pushed her heavy suitcase the whole way, so she would be safe. He took her inside and showed her the line to stand in to get her ticket, because she was unsure what to do.
My mother tried to tip him and he wouldn’t take the tip.
Thank you for being so nice to her! She was really worried about getting stuck in the rain this weekend and needed to get out of SA before it started.
She is very grateful for his courtesy and I am so happy he helped her when she was traveling alone. Thank you, Mr. Rocha!!!

Attended a conference here this weekend. It was a great weekend. Rooms were great, conference area was great, and the bar was AWESOME! From my front desk guy at check in (Bryan) to the barterers (Rene and Rick) I was impressed with the whole experience!

So I booked this hotel from a Groupon about 2 months ago. Closer to the travel date, I decided to check it out on Unilocal (Don’t know why I didn’t think to do it sooner) After reading review upon bad review, I’ll admit I was a little bit terrified!
Seeing horror stories about bed bugs, ants, maids who steal and unfriendly service, I totally would have cancelled had our reservation not be nonrefundable.
I am SO glad that we didn’t. I’m thinking that previous reviews may have been slightly embellished or the hotel got the message and quickly stepped up their game.
My fiancé and I arrived on Friday at about 4:30 from Dallas. We decided to valet because it’s only 5 more dollars than self park and we wouldn’t have to lug our things down the street (the parking garage is just shy of a block away). We were waved in right away. The bell hop quickly got all of our things out of the car and even went to go fill up our cooler with ice while we were checking in. I wish I could remember his name because he was great!
The front desk had 2 gentlemen working and there was only one other couple checking in so there was no line. Our guy was very nice and worked quickly. The bell hop met back up with us and took us the the room. Not only did he put luggage on the rack in the room he was also telling us fun things going on and discounts that we should take advantage of (I REALLY wish I could remember his name so I could give him credit).
The room/​bathroom is a little on the smaller side but it’s very nice and clean. It takes a little while for the water to heat up in the shower though. I read a review that said there weren’t even closets, not sure if it’s different in other rooms, but ours had one. We put the do not disturb sign on the door so house keeping never came, we usually do this because we aren’t that messy and there we plenty of towels for the two of us so we each had one for each of the days we are here. We met the house keeper on our way out one day and she seemed very friendly.
Breakfast was great but a little pricey. Our server was SO nice. My fiancé is allergic to peppers and was asking what they use to make the Bloody Mary’s. Our server said it comes from a mix so he went and personally made him one using tomato juice and doctored it up to taste great. Food was good, standard breakfast buffet, but there is also a menu that you can select from.
We got a call from the front desk in the morning telling us to make sure we come down and get a coupon book for the river activities.
The only downfall we have had so far is that it’s a little bit of a hike to get to the Alamo and the busier part of the river. There is an access point right next to the hotel for the riverwalk, and you can use the river taxi for $ 10 a person for a 24 hour pass.
All in all, it has been a good stay. I hope that if they are trying now because of all the bad reviews, that they can keep the momentum up.

I’m in the airport, and couldn’t be happier to be leaving this atrociously managed hotel. All of the 1 star reviews below (and I’ve read them all) are accurate.
My mom and I stayed here for Labor Day weekend hoping to spend some quality time on the Riverwalk, but mostly spent time worrying about when we could go places just the two of us because the area around the Wyndham looked extremely sketchy. Homeless people everywhere (not to say they’re dangerous, but you never know what to expect), empty and deserted parking lots surrounded the hotel, a greyhound bus stop view from our window, and no hotel security.
First impression: we get into the lobby at about 10pm, which looks quite fancy, and wait in a line to check-​in. There is one staff member at the front desk (this was like this almost the entire HOLIDAY weekend) and there was a line forming behind us. I felt bad for the guy working, as he seemed flustered– understaffed, and probably over-​worked and underpaid.
Then we get to our room: DISGUSTING. Worst house keeping service I have EVER experienced. Mirrors were smeared with who knows what, there was black hair all over the floor, water spots all over the shower knobs and sink knobs and then as we are getting situated, I find a dirty shirt on the floor from the last person who stayed there (or maybe someone before that!). Basically, they half-​assed everything and that made us question whether or not the bed sheets had even been changed.
House keeping came in one time in the three days we stayed and turned our air down to 65° (brrrr), didn’t make our beds, didn’t empty our trash, and didn’t replace any soaps, shampoos or conditioners. They did, however, manage to toss the dirty pillow I left on the floor back onto my unmade bed-​thanks! They did replace our towels, but they were poorly folded. Again, worst housekeeping I’ve ever experienced and I’ve been to some poorly rated hotels.
View: The front desk staff said we had a view of the Riverwalk… Ok, well yeah. There was a teensy part of the river we could see out the window, but it was surrounded by all those empty parking lots I mentioned earlier (pics below).
There are safes at the front desk instead of the room, but everyone and their mom can see them, so with one person working the late shift, I wouldn’t count on your belongings being 100% protected.
Last but not least, parking was ridiculous. $ 24/​night to park in a structure that is a block from the hotel. Wouldn’t complain about the short distance normally, but being two women alone at night in a creepy area, we decided to valet for $ 28/​night as a safety precaution. The front desk later mentioned we could have asked for an escort, so do keep that in mind if you end up being stuck in this hell hole and don’t feel safe walking alone or in a small group.
*Only pros:
*$ 15 breakfast buffet (pretty decent, but same food every morning) & our server, Mo, was very friendly at the buffet
* The valet and front desk staff was very nice, although under-​staffed.
I know the review was long, but all of this is good information to have before booking here. I wish I had read these before booking.

Pulling into the self parking garage for Wyndham, I had to triple check on the map to confirm I was in the right place. I was certain the hotel I booked was on the Riverwalk and I was nowhere near the Riverwalk. Riverwalk is in the *name* of the hotel, and that is as close as it gets.
The parking garage did not feel safe and we had to take an elevator down to a hallway that appeared to be a part of the hotel. After a long walk to another set of elevators we took another elevator ride to get to the hotel lobby. Upon check in, I was told the room had a view of the Riverwalk. I was relieved to hear our long walk took us within viewing distance of the Riverwalk. When checking the view in the room, I was disappointed to find that we were not in fact anywhere near the Riverwalk, the hotel staff is in denial. The room does have a fantastic view of the Greyhound Bus Station. Once we dropped of the luggage, we hiked back to the parking garage to move my car to the hotel valet parking. The garage did not seem like a safe place to leave my car.
We walked about six blocks to the Riverwalk and decided to cut our time short after witnessing several arrests on the street and a homeless person snatching things from occupied tables at the Riverwalk. Since Über is banned from the area, we knew we would have to walk back through the questionable area to the hotel in the dark. Upon our walk back, a lady of the night was conducting business a block from the Wyndham Hotel.
Sleeping was pretty tough due to traffic noise, clanky pipes, misaligned doors that shook the building when slammed, and noises that sounded like explosions in the hotel throughout the night. Rough night, so happy to leave!
A breakfast buffet was included with our room and the breakfast was the most enjoyable part of our stay. The restaurant has a menu or buffet option available. The buffet features eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, and an omelette bar. All of the continental breakfast options as well. The service was nice as well as the restaurant.
This was my first visit to a Wyndham Hotel and hopefully my last. The experience was bad enough to sour me on the entire hotel chain.

I’m pretty happy with what I received for the price I paid.
I thought since the parking garage was across the hotel we would have to cross the street but it’s connected underground. Self parking is $ 23 a night which was a bit steep but going in and out the garage was pretty easy.
Our room was spacious, comfortable, and clean. Bathroom counter was big so I got to spread my makeup out. Shampoo/​conditioner, soap, shower cap, even hair tie is all available in the bathroom. Bed makes noise every time you get off or on it but it was okay. The hotel seems to be renovated so it’s a lot more modern.
The location of the hotel is more towards the end of the riverwalk. You’ll have to walk down a bit to get to the heart of it. For us it was a 10 minute drive to the Rivercenter mall. But at least if you’re looking to relax it’s definitely further from the hustle and bustle.
I wouldn’t mind staying here again but this wouldn’t be my first choice.

Complete false advertising by their site’s pics. Location is on the far East end away from everything. The neighborhood is shabby and dilapidated. Not to mention, parking is an ADDITIONAL $ 25.71 per night, which was not mentioned when I booked the room online. The only nice thing I can say is that the bed was a nice size and firmness. However, after parking and 16.25% tax, I HIGHLY advise going elsewhere!

The staff at the front desk for the restaurant are avoiding eye contact so that they not need to help you if they don’t look at you.
The first room was spacious but funky odor from the bathroom. It’s warm even though the bellboy already turn the air-​con on. The view was not good because this thing (I don’t even know what it called)#see picture. So moved to a higher room.
The second room is slightly smaller, bathroom and the room is clean.
TV, 2 queen size bed, coffee maker, towels all good.
No refrigerator, no couch and no USB port.
Thin wall, we can hear bang or knock from other room as well as flushing toilet. The bed is comfortable but OMG, it squeak badly. Air con is alright.
Location, it is on part of the riverside alright, but far from the actions and fun place, you have to walk far. The walking took about 15 minutes yeah it’s not too bad but seriously not going to walk alone or without a crowd because lots of homeless hanging around after 6−7pm. Can’t imagine what if I walk back to the hotel at 10pm or later. The walkway towards the hotel is creepy. So, the next time I visit San Antonio, I would definitely not want to stay in this hotel. I would rather pay the different to stay in Marriott or Hyatt. For the free breakfast, free parking, free internet and not have to walk so far and trying to brave the aggressive homeless. BTW why no police or security patrol?

Beware of this hotel-​we thought we got a good deal on this hotel on Priceline, but after the stay I think we overpaid. Old and outdated, the bathroom was the worst, the toilet seat cover was completely stained yellow from urine stains, the tile on the floor was chipped and old. They don’t wrap the blankets in sheets and still have a comforter on the bed.
The absolute worst part is the location. I was so afraid walking through all the homeless and scary people in that area. We walked by a guy who was passed out on the sidewalk and watched another guy steal his «cigarette» from his pocket. It was about a 15 minute scary and dangerous walk to get to any tourist type business on the river. You may as well not stay on the Riverwalk and get a nicer room.

This place is somewhat on the riverwalk but you need to walk to it. The problem is it is located in an area my girlfriend was scared of walking
If you want to get something within walking distance near by well forget it because you won’t find any
What added up to my unpleasant exp staying there was that my online booking messed up but I showed up and stayed there, still they charged me for two nights while I stayed for one.
I can understand why they don’t have a good biz and they want to get everyone anyone they can.
You think they care about the customers, then find out if they do…
Heck I would never go back to this location and I will watch out for his chain as well

I stayed for a work conference and found the lobby and valet staff friendly and very courteous.
The room was your typical average room. The bathroom door was a little too close to the toilet. The maid service was lacking as they only made up my bed and didn’t clean much of anything else… Good thing I’m pretty tidy on my own.
I liked that the air conditioner was a very soft yet consistent fan which kept the room at a nice comfortable temp.
The Lobby staff was very courteous and would stop what they were doing just to say hello and/​or offer assistance. The distance to the Riverwalk and the Alamo is just a few blocks up the road which was great. I enjoyed walking around the area and I hope we decide to hold a conference here again.

Riverwalk? Riverwalk? Really? You may technically be on it, but being half a mile away from the closest business on the Riverwalk is beyond false advertising. This hotel isn’t close to ANYthing remotely tourist related (dining, landmark, etc)
Wireless Internet. You keep using this phrase. I do not think it means what you think it means. I was there for 6 days and connected ONCE in the lobby. The Internet also went down for TWO days. DOWN. Like, didn’t work for anyone. I couldn’t connect from my room. I couldn’t connect from the Executive Meeting Rooms at the conference. I simply couldn’t connect. And while the wired connection worked in the room, my cell phone didnt. So that was fun. Downstairs to make calls, upstairs to use the Internet. At least they refunded all the charges for internet access during my stay. But a business hotel without Internet? Nope.
Daily Room Servicing. Do they offer this? My room was serviced ONCE. Instead, every day I was left a little photocopied note under my door that said they were sorry they couldnt service my room because the DND sign was out. What DND? I hung it from 2am until 7am when I left the room. HOW did you miss me? I called twice a day and still couldn’t get someone to come up. Had to personally go downstairs for kleenex, toilet paper, towels, etc.
While the room did come with two free waters, it was missing everything else. No coffee, only some decaf tea. No magazines, hotel info, or room service sheets. Had to go downstairs to get those. See a theme?
Convention Space. Not «in the building». Rather, take the elevator down to the substructure where you take a couple hundred yard meander under the street to the basement of the, yup, you guessed it, parking garage. Seriously??? Almost a 10 minute commute from the 5 conference rooms over to the convention space.
Thankfully the shower pressure and pillows were amazing. They really were.

Stayed here for a small conference, was pretty underwhelmed. There’s nothing upscale about this place, but it’s not dirty, it’s just really really generic.
To wit: when I was looking for something to drink in the afternoon (like a Starbucks kiosk), they legit said there’s a Keurig in the gift shop and we can sell you a paper cup. Otherwise you have to sit down at the bar or the cafeteria-​style lobby restaurant. Even the Hyatt place has brewed coffee and an espresso machine!
Beth nailed all the logistics about this place. I did see some interior decorator mood boards by the front desk, indicating planned upgrades to the furnishings, but it’s an older property. Old bones, at 18 stories, yield loud toilets, lame showers, and no in-​room safe or in-​room fridge.
Parking was AWFUL. Valet if you can afford it, otherwise you have to park a block away and lug everything through the garage, two elevators, and a long tunnel! Not cool.
Exhibit and meeting rooms were fine, no complaints. Staff were all super nice. Don’t come here for a girls or romantic weekend, but for business it’s an ok 3 stars.
