We cater to the individual consumer so we have no shop minimums and we can handle most jobs big or small from car parts to patio furniture!

History

Established in 2010.

Powder Keg Custom Coatings was originally started in the Twin Cities in 2006 by a pair of college friends wanting to learn how to powder coat to customize their own cars. What started as a hobby in a garage turned into a passion and a dedication to change how consumers are treated in the powder coating industry.

In our experience, Minnesota powder coating shops catered only to large batch companies looking to do thousands of pieces and individuals were left to figure it out on their own. Most companies wouldn’t even respond if you just wanted a valve cover coated and those that did would reply with their spending minimums or part total minimums. We made it our goal to completely change this process and be geared exclusively to the individual. We require no minimums for spending or parts!

Business Owner

Tim is the owner and founder of Powder Keg Custom Coatings. Tim and his best friend that he met in college who shared a passion of cars and motorcycles started powder coating in 2006. What started out as a garage setup to coat their own parts quickly began to evolve as friends they had developed in the car/​bike community saw some of the work they had done and wanted to have theirs done as well.

Tim and Brad began coating during college and tried to keep up with demand, school and jobs as best they could but school had to come first so they decided to put any growth on hold until after college.

Tim studied Business & Entrepreneurship at the University of St Thomas and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 2009. Starting a successful small business had been a lifelong dream of his since he was a teenager.
