Good food, reasonably priced. Service was unbelievably fast and friendly. Eggs Benedict was very good.

I had the Classic Eggs Benedict. It was pretty good. The highlight was the hollandaise sauce. It was quite good. The ham was a little below average and the English muffin was fine. The coffee wasn’t particularly good.
It was a nice little neighborhood diner.

I’ve ordered breakfast here a handful of times and each time my plate is delivered with blazing speed. The food was not exactly «hot off the grill» which leads me to believe this restaurant operates like a fast food operation where they prepare plates ahead of time. During my last visit I found a long strand of hair beneath my toast. I’d steer clear of the Grandview Grill.

Recently I ate a late breakfast here two days in a row (a Thurs. and Fri.) while a friend was visiting from out east. We came here because it’s just a few blocks’ walk form my house and we were fixin’ to fill up our tanks before going out and about the city to be tourists.
One day, I ordered Crab Cakes Benedict, and the next I ordered the eggs/​hashbrowns/​sausage/​pancake plate. Both entrees are huge, heavy portions, and very tasty, too. Coffee is good, and so is the service.

So the food is really good but the service is not. We sat down at a table and waited for our server to order something to drink. About 5 minutes pass and we just think they’re busy. No big deal. But then we would keep seeing servers walking past our table not acknowledging us at all. It seemed like they would pretend to not see us. We obviously had no drinks or menus. We tried to get people’s attention but no one would even look at us! We waited a couple minutes and then I turned on my watch and it got to 18 minutes. It was busy but I don’t see why it could take 20 minutes to get water. Seemed like no one really wanted to take care of us. Every time I would go there before this time I really had no intention on tipping the waitress. It was always what do you want to drink. Take our order and bring it out. No smiling or asking how we are. On the bright side the food is really great but the service will make me not return.

So bummed right now. I woke up early and decided to take my daughter out to eat so my husband could sleep in without noise in the house. We decided to go to the Grandview Grille because it is near us and we had never been there and they have pancakes and my daughter loves pancakes so yeah. ANYWAY,
We get there and I stand by the Please Wait To Be Seated sign while my daughter sits on the bench. Lots of employees walk near but never help or even acknowledge us. I start getting irritated but figure they are just really busy or something. NOPE. Next people who come in way after us are two well-​off looking dudes. The hostess immediately stops what she’s doing and goes to help them. Well I wasn’t having it so I said Excuse me, we have been waiting a long time so we will be going first. I didn’t say it really rude but I was clearly unhappy. The hostess gave no f*cks clearly but sat us anyway and then the guys.
So then we wait for a server and the guys get helped first of course but then our server helps us finally. She was nice enough, average restaurant waitress on a Saturday morning. Our food comes pretty fast. We start eating bacon, corn bread, eggs not too bad, average breakfast restaurant. Then we get to the pancakes. Oh, the pancakes.
I bit into mine and was immediately disgusted. I thought maybe it was a bad bite so I took another one and nope. It had the texture of dirt or something, just gritty as hell. I didn’t want to discourage my daughter from eating hers in case it was just mine so I didn’t say anything. As soon as she bit into hers, however, she got a disgusted look like she barely wanted to swallow it. I asked what was wrong and she said It has a bad texture, like dirt. If you knew how much my daughter loves pancakes you would know how bad that is.
I asked the waitress for the check, which she brought quick enough, but after we waited a while for her to come back I had to stop her from standing around and chatting with her waitress friend to come get it.
It was definitely not worth 18 $ for the amount and quality of food and bad service. I only left a 3 $ tip I was so mad. That’s unheard of for me, seeing as normally we probably would have tipped 5 – 10 $ for that amount, depending on service. If I tip under 5 $ at a restaurant you know sh*t is bad. I even tipped more yesterday at a place where they don’t serve you, the coffee was awful, and I am pretty sure I got food poisoning. LOL.

Mediocre at best. Great service though!
Had the Veggie Tex Mex. Came with a side of hair. Garnished with a raw mushroom. Didn’t get that. Salsa on it tasted like Tostitos canned.
Overpriced too I wouldn’t return.

Love this place! I had the Cajun breakfast and my boyfriend had the breakfast burrito and chocolate chip cookie dough pancake. A little pricey, but super yummy!

We love the breakfast menu items that you wouldn’t normally make at home, like the carnita benedict, and possibly the best country fried steak and eggs I’ve ever had. They’ve really perfected those dishes.
There’s usually a whiteboard special like johnny cakes that’s not on the regular menu.
Never had a problem with the service or the food. Maybe it’s just with the sheer volume of people who are often dining here, there’s bound to be a slip up here or there. I hope that will explain the one or two lesser reviews, because I want them to be in business until I can’t eat gravy anymore. Service has been great every time we went.
Grandview’s emphasis is on the not-​overly-​healthy breakfast items, so you’re not playing to their strength if you order a cheeseburger.

I’ve gone here for breakfast a handful of times, and haven’t been disappointed. A couple of weeks ago, I tried the grilled cheese. A. Mazing. The best bread ever, and perfectly grilled (crispy, but not too greasy, and just the right amount of cheese). The waffle fries are also really good.
If you are looking for a great ‘diner’ meal with attentive service, check this place out. There is some parking in the back, but not a lot. Be prepared to look for a spot (as with any place in St Paul :)).

My sister and I ate breakfast there last week. Though Grandview has been there for years, something really needs to change. I ordered the Cajan Breakfast. I’ve ordered this before and it’s been ok. This time, it looked absolutely inedible. You hardly noticed the eggs and hash browns underneath the swamp of sauce. It was nauseating to look at. When I tried to send it back, I was given an attitude by the waitress. In my experience with eating out, as long as the service is friendly, even if the food is sub par, I’m more likely to return. I think I’m done with Grandview. And as I notice the other reviews, it looks like others are too.

The service was pleasant but very slow. The food was unimpresive, burnt bacon, eggs overdone, pancakes were dry and required way too much effort to swallow.

A-​OK! Came in for breakfast on a Sunday morning around 11. Grandview Grill was pretty busy but still had space for a friend and I to sit down at a table right away. There is one large open dining room filled with large booths around the edges and two and four top tables filling the insides along with a breakfast bar facing the kitchen. The menu included a variety of classic breakfast food along with some creative specials including cookie dough pancakes, and a handful of unique eggs benedicts.
We were greeted promptly, I had a craving for french toast and decided to go with the «Simple French Toast.» Simple it was, 4 pieces of large sourdough bread cut into twos to make 8 pieces, doused in powder sugar. It tasted great and fulfilled my craving. I do love French Toast with sourdough bread it makes for a great flavor. The one drawback here was the prices, everything seemed just a bit on the pricey side. I couldn’t find much on the menu that was under $ 10. The Simple French toast was $ 7.99 but along with a side of sausage pushed it up to $ 11. Great local spot if you are looking to grab some breakfast.

Standard diner fare, but prices are too high for what you get. The serving staff were very friendly (aside from a very loud argument we overheard in the kitchen between the cooks), but our order took a long time to get to the table.

My husband and I took our son to breakfast for his 18^th birthday. He chose the restaurant, Grandview, close to home.
Our bill for three of us was $ 46 not including tip. The coffee, $ 2.75, is what I like to call «Lutheran brown water». Should have brought in my own coffee. The traditional eggs benedict was not good. The poached eggs were overcooked, the ham was two large slices, and the hash browns were boring. The birthday boy had cajun benedict, one pancake and an ice tea. His bill alone without tip was $ 18.00. I will not return. I feel ripped off.
I want to like it because I love my neighborhood.

In my insatiable quest for great breakfast spots, I’ve come upon yet another solid MSP diner. Grandview Grill is one of the handful of diners belonging to the local chain that owns Uptown Diner and a few others. The menu is solid with a good selection of classic greasy breakfasts, eggs Benedict, omelets, pancakes, etc. Its a big dining room with plenty of open tables on weekdays (haven’t been on weekends). Coffee is decent. Prices are better than a lot of breakfast joints. GG gets an extra point for a big jug of siracha sauce on every table; eggs are simply inedible to me with out it!
A few small complaints. They’ve tried to squeeze too many parking spots into their tiny lot, making for «creative» maneuvering in and out. You’re given only one small napkin with your silverware and if you’ve ever seen me consuming a plate of biscuits and gravy, you’ll know how inadequate this is. And finally, while most of the food is pretty good, the hashbrowns just aren’t up to snuff. Swap ‘em for another piece of toast or something.

While I have my neighborhood loyalties to the Neighborhood café — this place is totally legit too!

Portion sizes are brunch-​worthy (2 meals in one).
This is a large establishment, but there can sometimes be a short wait for larger parties for Sunday brunch rush.
A brief observation: is somehow expertly run by extremely competent high-​schoolers.

The Grandview serves breakfast. And it does a decent job. But it really is just kind of decent, and there are a lot of things about the operation of this business that do not make it my first choice, even though it’s maybe the closest option to my house.
So first the food — it’s solid breakfast. You want eggs, bacon, caramel rolls and coffee served in heavy white mugs? This is a fine place to serve that need. I wish there were a few more items on the menu (I find the lack of any kind of corned beef hash kind of odd for a breakfast joint), but overall it’s fine. I like the eggs benedict, which is a perfectly passable benedict. But it’s also not anything that I’m going to be writing home about. My husband has had the biscuits and sausage twice now and says it’s just ok. Coffee is good.
The hashbrowns are really thin shoe-​string type potatoes, which are normally my favorite kind. But the way these are grilled, they don’t develop that really nice hard brown crust on the outside. Essentially it seems like the grill is turned up too high and so the hashbrowns are cooked until they are as brown as they can be before there’s burning. If they just turned the heat down and cooked them a little longer, it would be much better. Sorry for the hashbrown diatribe… but hashbrowns are an essential part of breakfast to me. moving on.
The place is popular and gets really crowded on the weekends. This is fine but there are a bunch of kids running the joint and often not an adult to be seen. On our last visit, we walked in and were promptly ignored for about 5 minutes even though several employees came to the front counter for various needs. No one even bothered to say «We’ll be with you in a second.» Finally a young man who looked like he was about 12 came to seat us. We asked for a booth. There were two open but needing to be bussed. He wandered off, grabbed some dishes off the one booth table and went back to the kitchen. I watched him do about four other things, including change a roll of paper towels, before he remembered he was supposed to be seating us and came back.
We were also pretty irked to see lots of food flying out of the kitchen but sitting on the pass waiting for wait staff or runners to pick it up. We waited more than 40 minutes for our food to arrive, and I suspect that this time could be cut by at least 5 minutes if people were paying attention or there were more people to run food at busy times.
Parking is hard, they have a small lot but it quickly fills up when it’s busy. And I am personally irked by the sign out front that advertises «Breakfast all day» when the place closes at 2:30. Also, you are promised specials for following the restaurant on Facebook, but the offered specials are not really anything that people might want to order. Most recently it was a BOGO deal on an omelette. Sorry, but when was the last time you and your spouse went out to eat breakfast and ordered the same exact thing? Doesn’t happen for us very often anyway.
So, long-​winded way of saying, yes, this place does decent breakfast. It does seem popular. But really, there are better places to get breakfast around here with more professional service and fewer frustrations.

Once again, you can’t tell a book by its cover. I had expected a greasy spoon joint with filling bland food to match, but the interior was well-​kept, retro yet clearly newer furniture, light fixtures, etc. They had prints signed and numbered by the artist on the wall (and they didn’t seem to be for sale either). But the biggest surprise was the menu. Fresh and creative takes on old classics. I ordered the carnitas eggs benedict, and it was very good. The pork was juicy, the beans and hollandaise sauce tasted freshly made, and salsa was had fresh red onions, tomatoes, and cilantro. My husband had apple pie waffle, which he enjoyed. We also considered trying the new items, dulce de leche waffles and johnnycakes with honey butter.
The service was attentive, and someone drew a funny cartoon character of himself on our bill. (Perhaps it was our server, but I wasn’t sure.) I also did not expect to see both Tabasco and Sriracha sauce in addition to the ketchup on the table.
It’s pretty rare when we see so many interesting items on the menu that we are thinking about our next visit even before we leave, especially in a non-​ethnic restaurant. This place seems to know how to make ordinary breakfast interesting, so it gets four stars in my book.

A very nice little diner-​style restaurant in a great part of Grand Ave. This is my go-​to spot for breakfast after noon (all Benedicts are to die for). Also a great spot if you’re looking for a pre-​movie meal or snack.
Service is sometimes a bit slow, but I’m willing to overlook the laid-​back pace in exchange for great food at a great price in a great location. I’m a fan.
