St. Louis Muttropolitan

I loved the cut and wash that they did for my St. Bernard yesterday, but I wasn’t made aware that they were going to cut his nails.
I asked for a cut and wash, described how I wanted him to be shaved, and left him there at 10am. At 230, I called to check, and they told me (nerviously) that they were running behind. I found out later why they sounded so nervous when I called. They must have been still trying g to stop the bleeding from more than one of his nails. Almost all of his nails were cut past the quick. If they had asked, I would have to them his nails get grinded, not hacked off.
I called last night, after my husband texted me that Matias was whimpering. The woman who answered the phone didn’t know what to tell me about the situation, so she told me to contact my vet. We gave Matias some children’s ibuprofin. Today, I called them back, after they called and left me a message checking up on Matias, and the woman who answered had no idea what I was talking about. I would’ve liked for someone to handle this with a little more compassion. It was my first visit and overall i was happy, except for my dogs nails. Some type of compensation would be nice. I have pictures of his nails.

Had it not been for a personal referral, I would not have known this place existed. It’s tucked in a quiet area of South City right off Macklind, and I don’t think they do much in the marketing department. I am sooooo glad I heard about this place, and I will never take my pooch anywhere else!
Why? They are CHEAP! I was taking him to another daycare close to my office that was charging $ 30 a day and I’m pretty sure they didn’t have the resources to watch the volume of dogs that would arrive on the daily. He’d drink water till he barfed and would sleep the rest of the day. Here, they’re incredibly attentive, have a web cam and charge almost half as much. They’re incredibly attentive, know us by name, sometimes feed him if he has to stay a little late AND he comes home tuckered out. When I say tuckered out, I mean sleeping in the car for the 7 minute car ride home. Their hours are also generous. Late meeting? No problem. I just have to be there by 7. I had to be at the other place by 6 before they started charging by the minute — no joke.
He’s a beagle mix so grooming isn’t a word in our house. We have, however, dropped him off for daycare and asked them to give him a bath. They waited until late in the day to lather him up and made sure he didn’t roll in poop before we got him. He even left with some blue feathered collar bling. Now that’s service.
This place may not have the frills of some other establishments but they’ve won our trust which speaks volumes. Drop off your dog with the peace of mind they’re having fun and being cared for!

I’ve had my doubts about this place since the first visit. I have kept my dog there 3−4x. The first time, they never gave me back her 3 toys, so I had to drive back to get them. This last time, I took 3 toys and never got back any, but I knew to look. I got 2 back. Don’t know where they retrieved them. They did not go to her cage for them. They said she must have eaten and/​or destroyed the other one. That is unlikely, as she has her first squeaky toy from 10 years ago. She doesn’t destroy toys. They looked confused when I asked for her Travel bag. I had to get the dog a day early, and had individually bagged and labeled food for each day. I didn’t get back the 3 cups in 2 bags that should have been unused. I did get a bottle of doggie prozak pills. They were NOT mine and I hope they are not giving such things to her without my knowledge.
Pretty disappointing, considering the cost. Guess I need to look for another place.

Mary Catherine is the best groomer in town! She is wonderful will all breeds of dogs, no discrimination here. Also she is a cat whisperer. No one can groom a cat like she does. If you bring your pet here you will not be disappointed. They always leave smelling super fresh too!

Found my new groomer! I was embarrassed to take my Maltese/​Lhasa mix go a groomer because I let her go too long. From the moment I walked in there was no judgement. Just dog-​loving employees. Mary Catherine took great care of my girl and was really cool. The fact that they have appointments on Sunday too really made me feel at ease as it is my day off. So from here on I won’t slack on my dog’s grooming because I found the perfect groomer. Easy parking. Super nice employees. Great location.

I took my dog Sally here. Mary Catherine did an amazing job! Sally came home smelling great and so soft! She even had a cute pink feather on her collar. We we definitely be coming back. Thank you STL MPG!

They did a terrific job taking care of our two boys! We were visiting St. Louis from Chicago for the holidays with our 1 and half year old schnauzer, Otto and our 7 year old shih tzu, Wolfgang. My boyfriend’s Dad recommended this place where we could place them to be watched for a few days while we were visiting family and still be close by. They’re very friendly when we dropped them off. And we got a great deal as well with the haircut included with the boarding which is a plus! Usually we are very cautious about where they get groomed but they did a great job! Not only that the boys got plenty of play time and we’re happy! They didn’t have any separation anxiety at all and seemed to enjoy their vacation from Mom and Dad too. We highly recommend them after our first time using their boarding and grooming services! We definitely be coming here when we’re in town! Great place and our boys were well taken care of!

For grooming of 4 months old, fridgity Malshi puppy, they were able to complete a summer cut! Amazing. My complaint was that it took them 5 hrs instead of 4 hrs which they predicted. My puppy weighs only 4 lbs…

They do a really good job with my kitties. We’re not fans of lion cuts so they just go in for a regular grooming. The people here have always been nice to us and the prices are not too steep.

I bring my young dog in for grooming every few months and sometimes doggy day care. No complaints & my dog is always excited when we pull up!

Had a great experience a few months ago: dogs were boarded and when we picked them up they were happy and clean so it was without hesitation that we booked our dogs to be boarded here again. HUGE MISTAKE!
When we dropped off our dogs, we told the owner that one of them had major allergies and required a certain dosage of benedryl to keep his allergies at bay. When we picked the dogs up, it was apparent that he was not treated properly. He came home with his face caked in eye mucous. The fur around his eyes is completely gone and his face has been rubbed bloody raw. When we called back and talked to the owner it was apparent they never wrote down the correct dosage and had in fact given him half of what he needed! Despite the obvious pain the dog was in, we never even received a phone call!
As soon as the dogs got home, they ran to the water bowl and immediately drank 3X their normal daily amount in a matter of minutes! The dogs were completely dehydrated, not to mention completely and utterly disgusting. They smelled like urine and it was apparent that the bath we requested upon booking was never administered.
If you care about your pet DO NOT bring them here. I’m not quite sure how someone running an animal boarding business can watch a dog suffer for 4 days and not even bother to call the owners… I would never trust them with my dogs again.

As first timers things seemed a bit disorganized. But overall had a great experience and Roxi looked & smelled awesome! Will b back in a few months for our next shave!

It is not easy to groom a cat. Their skin is thinner and more delicate than a dog skin, and tears easily. Mary Katherine is a talented professional who did an excellent job blending the head (which does not get shaved) into the neck and body. She also is able to do it without showing tracks of the clippers. I would prefer they called my pet by name rather than «the cat» but that is such a minor thing I will definitely be back!

I love Muttropolitan and take my dog Chester there at least once a week for daycare. They also have a camera where you can watch your dog. The only concern I have is that someone isn’t always IN the yard with the dogs. They are close by, but not actually in the pen which would make me feel a little better. I also use them for grooming and they do a really great job, but it can get costly. Overall, Muttropolitan is a great place for dogs to play! I completely trust Gary and his staff.

Seriously, they did an amazing job — I literally don’t know how they got it trimmed so perfectly, she even has little boots and her little tail is divine. Supposedly it’s good for cats to get shaven every so often, especially if they are ultra furry like mine. And I’m sure it’s great for a these hotSTL summers.

The Reverend loves this place! Always comes back happy. Used to take him to petsmart and he was a different dog for a day or two. (So was my wallet!) They have no problem feeding him while getting his nails done, which shows they will go out of their way for a dog to be comfortable. Great with American Bulldogs and seem comfortable around all big dogs whenever I am in there. Messed up once on his nails, but partially my fault for letting them get so long. They didn’t try hiding, bs’ing it or even placing the blame on me. came straight up to me and told me what happened and gave me some powder to stop the bleeding.
Sometimes it does take a while for them to groom your dog, but what are you people complaining about?! Here’s your chance to finally clean your house that smells like a dog!

I have used this place for years now I think since they opened on southwest. We have had two cats groomed and shaved (yes I know the joke here). And three dogs groomed and shaved. One dog has passed since but she was a big black lab. To say the least fur every where. We tried every de-​shedding there was they recommended shaving. Well years later every animal gets shaved about once a quarter. Our allergies are better and takes no time to clean the house. Great price they do great on the nails. Even on the black nails they get them short.
We also use their day care. If you have a dog that is cooped up all day this is the place. Cheapest I have ever found. They have small dog and big dog areas. And a great out side area with a pool. My large dog if we don’t burn his energy he eats the house. This is not a metaphor he has eaten throw a wall. But I take him to day care he is happy and tired.
Good prices on boarding too. Same thing as day care always watched always taken care of.
The staff is always nice. They might seem ruff at times but they work long and hard to care for our pets. And they always do care, if one has to walk away they always have some one watch the dogs on the grooming stand.

Took my cat for lions cut today and he looks great! Will be going back! Place was clean and staff was very friendly. Highly recommend

I am really shocked to read the bad reviews of this place on here. I have been bringing my two long hair cats here for about a year, and my standard poodle for about 9 months. They have done a wonderful job each and everytime.
I wouldn’t call the staff full of sunshine and light, but they are always polite. They don’t have many people working there, so it understandably may take them a minute or two to get up to the counter.
They always give me a time estimate when I drop any of my pets off and if I haven’t heard from them by that time, I usually call to check on my pet. Sometimes they are just finishing up and sometimes they ask for a bit more time. Not a problem. They usually ask when I drop them off if I need to pick them up by a particular time. I have never run into a problem with them.
To the woman who left a review about the length of time required to groom a cat, three hours is to be expected in a busy grooming shop. The animal has to be bathed, dried and groomed. At the same time, they are probably going to be handling other animals. Also, from my experience there, only one groomer handles the cats, so its understandable that it may take longer.
As to the quality of their work, I am always very pleased. I am very particular about the way my poodle is cut and they always follow exactly what I request. They go over her carefully to check for mats and trim her nails well.
As to my two cats, I notice a remarkable difference in their shedding after getting groomed. One time they had just finished up my cats and put them into their kennel to call me, and one of the cats had an «accident» in the crate. They re-​bathed her without extra charge or complaint to me, only mentioning it to me in case I wanted to further clean the kennel (they had already cleaned it out though).
When I drop my pets off here, I always feel comfortable and know that when I pick up my pets, they will be bathed, groomed and happy.
