I’ll keep this short and sweet and free of snark(I have a headache). Sabu’s is pretty decent. I’ve never been wowed by their lattes, but the Goshen coffee is always good and strong. The staff is VERY nice. The owner especially. I always feel very welcome here and you can tell there’s a lot of passion in this little place. Plenty of parking, a little pricey but nothing terrible. I like the food more than the coffee, actually. It might be my favorite Greek salads around, though it’s not really a traditional one. But anything that includes mushrooms is an instant win. They also have a panini with a fig spread that is great, though I honestly think the sandwich meat is Oscar Mayer or some other packaged lunch meat. I could be wrong, but I eat plenty of circular slices of meat and it’s eerily reminiscent of the Louis Rich turkey variety pack. They also have a basket full of day-old baked goods for $ 1. If you’re too good for a $ 1 day-old baked good, well buddy you’re too good for me.

We arrived during a rush on Saturday morning, so our food took 20 minutes to arrive, which is a longer than I expected for a small coffeeshop. We received our coffee(above average, but nothing exceptional) within 5 minutes. The fully loaded breakfast omelette is quite good, just a touch salty. The panini is smaller than what you’d expect, given the price. Overall, a safe bet if you need to grab a bite. Wi-Fi code is on your receipt.

Right after my last visit, I saw a Groupon for Sabu and jumped on it. This time I took the hubby out for lunch with the pups. The hubby went with the Chicken Panini and a Greek salad combo. I went with the Vegetable Panini and the Baby Spinach salad. The food took a little longer to come out than the last time… but they were making for two. We enjoyed their shaded patio while we waited, couldn’t have asked for a more gorgeous day either. The hubby even commented on how nice and quiet of a location it was. Perfect for a peaceful lunch getaway. The food arrived with smoking hot panini’s so we dove into the salads first. My spinach salad was a mix of red onion, mandarin oranges, goat cheese, toasted walnuts tossed in a raspberry vinaigrette. The hubby’s was your basic Greek salad. Both were good. My Vegetable panini was filled with spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions and provolone cheese. The vegetables were somewhat al dente. I didn’t enjoy this panini as much as the turkey panini. There was no special spreads or sauce, just veggies and cheese; and vegetables give out a lot of moisture when they are cooked in the panini grill so the bread lost a lot of that toasty crunch and was more soggy than crisp. The hubby’s panini was exactly the same as the turkey one I had on my last visit, only with chicken. It was nice cut up pieces of chicken with spinach and the super yummy fig & Brie spread. When I was ordering, I noticed they had a variety of «day old» cookies, 2 for $ 1. I had been thinking about the cranberry oatmeal ones, but by the time I went back to get them there was only one choice Peanut Butter, it would have to do.

Now we’re talking. A couple good red-eyes and capps along with a number of quality omellete’s has turned Sabu’s into my breakfast joint. Friendly staff, many regulars from the attached office building.

SABU! I went here the first time the other day, and I’ve gotta say, this has to be my new favorite little coffee shop. I hate that it is so random in an industrial park by Clear Channel. This place has all the nics to the naks that you would want for a coffee shop. It is a small place, quaint, not a huge variety, but just enough variety. It is about the quality of the products they sell and make. Everything is 100% organic. Their coffee beans, turkey, salads… everything! I ordered the half turkey sandwich and salad. What I was not expecting is the portion of both. They do not over indulge you, but they do not give you something that is going leave you feel hungry an hour later. Plus they add a side of fruit with it pro bono! All of this for $ 6. This amazed me considering I would go to St. Louis Bread Company and pay almost $ 10 for the same portion size, and not as good of quality. Mind you, this is coming from someone who is addicted to Bread Co. So, not only am I saving money by eating here, I am eating healthy(portion size and for the lifestyle), and I am not left feeling overindulged or hungry. It’s just right. They have a decent coffee selection. Pretty much the standard you would have at a Starbuck’s, but again, without the pricing. Really awesome place. The staff are very accommodating as well even after the order, and you sitting down to eat your food. Even when you are sitting on their little patio outside where you get to watch traffic fly by on 64⁄40. Again, I think my only downside is where it is located… if it was not on the bottom floor of a busy industrial area, I would visit more frequently. I would love for them to open up another location in a more residential area. But I guess we can’t have everything we want, right? Hopefully, the employees who work in the area take full advantage of it on their lunch breaks!

Cood cappucino and a yummy spinach, mushroom and cheese omlette for a nice and cozy breakfast. The staff is very friendly and it is very much like walking into«cheers.» Sat at the counter and just chatted it up with my dinning companion!

Oh Sabu, it was all going so, so well! We pass by this place pretty frequently, so hubby and I gave it a shot. Twice. Now the food gets five stars, but why a total of two? Let me ‘splain. We figured it would be just a few pastries, but they have a very nice little menu. Hubby got a breakfast panino that had eggs, cheese, bacon, peppers, etc which he loved. Good sized sandwich and it came with a bowl of fresh fruit. Prices were not bad at all. I had a totally kickass fruit and yogurt parfait. Fruit is indeed fresh and not frozen, and they drizzle honey on the granola to mix in. Love it. Free WiFi with purchase and putting internet access info on the receipt: brilliant. So how did you go from five to two? Your espresso. It was barely drinkable. Drip coffee was not a problem, but I got a doppio espresso and it was so incredibly bitter, I gagged. Because I was in a hurry and they were busy with a weekday morning rush, I didn’t say anything and choked it down. Tried it a second time… same thing. If your espresso is this bitter, then any of your mixed drinks are guaranteed to be sub-par. I want it to be better because of the food, but the espresso should be the foundation.

Sabu’s Coffee looks like a really unfortunate corporate generic chain coffeeshop. From its strip mall location off of Highway 40 next to a hotel and Jimmy Johns, to its coffee cup as the letter«u» in the logo, it seriously looks like it belongs in the opening credits of Weeds. I would not have dreamed of stepping foot in this place(especially since the original Kaldi’s is just an exit away) until I read a little blurb in St. Louis Magazine. Turns out that they use Companion Bread, Goshen Coffee, and that the in-house baker used to work at Bailey’s Chocolate Bar. I have to admit I was intrigued. And then there was mention of famous gooey butter cookies. I was sold. Trying hard not to judge a book by its cover, I decided to check it out today. They serve breakfast all-day(+1 star), but it was the turkey panini that caught my eye. Turkey, spinach, tomato and a fig/brie spread all toasted up and melty on Companion whole grain bread. This was a big sandwich too, which made the price(a little high) seem a bit less painful. Two meals for the price of one. And it came with fruit(a pretty decent selection) or chips. The sandwich was very good. The woman behind the counter told me it was her favorite and asked if I liked it. I told her I did, but thought it could use more brie. She said she would make the suggestion. Wow. Cool. Any place that values customers’ opinions is a-ok in my book. Now I know you’re all wondering about the gooey butter cookie. It was tasty, buuuut, I think I prefer my gooey butter in cake form. The other goodies all looked very yummy and anyone with Bailey’s Chocolate Bar on the resume certainly has my sweet tooth’s vote of confidence. I do wish they had made the place more homey and less soulless looking, but get over it and give em a try. You may even be inspired to want to check out«It’s a Grind!» Or not.
