Pets in the City

I am so happy I stumbled upon Pets in the City! I had been purchasing some fantastic yet crazy over-​priced cat food for my fur babies on Amazon, and was getting sick and tired of not being able to purchase the product in stores. Until, I happened across this cute little place and found their food right on the shelf for about 10 dollars cheaper than I’d been paying! Talk about a breath of fresh air! Not to mention the staff is super friendly, and there are some furry friends lounging around inside to love on while your browse. The only downside is I always have a hard time finding a place to park and turning onto the street I need to because of the traffic on Grand (that’s not the store’s fault, obviously). I’ll continue to be a customer here for as long as my fur children need this food. Great, local business!

Great place to get specialty treat for your pet, and the self wash can’t be beat either. They have plenty of shampoos and conditioners for your dog to use, and for only $ 12! Employees are really nice too.

Brought in our Golden Doodle based on the good reviews and were very upset by the results. She had visible razor burns on her stomach and butt, cuts on both ears that bled and quite frankly seemed traumatized even now 3 days later. Essentially paid $ 90+ to have a dog in so much pain she can’t walk or lie down normally or play.

I truly wanted to love this place. It was recommended by my son, is very close to my house and from what I could see has neat and carefully done product lines, however I will not be back. I wanted to get three dogs bathed, nails clipped and summer shaved. There were no mats but it wouldn’t be a consideration anyway if they were being shaved, right? The rate after I checked them in was about 30% higher than what was quoted on the phone. But the deal breaker came when I was required to sign a paper agreeing that if they injured my pet they would not be liable. So nope, no one gets a license to do that. So the second paragraph was as far as we got. The critters got sprung from their cages and we went wagging back home — still with no mats.

Friendly folks gave me some dog food samples to try since they didn’t have our food. Loved the vibe inside.

I brought my long haired cat Penelope in for grooming because she had gotten terribly matted and I could not keep up. Rebecca was amazing! I was a little nervous about it all but she totally eased my nerves and I felt good leaving Penelope in her hands. Rebecca truly has a gift… shaving a cat cannot be easy. Penelope came home with a sweet lion cut and we are both very happy that she is mat free! Thank you Rebecca!

Pets in the City is one of those great small business finds in St. Louis! I originally came in over two years ago looking to switch my cat to a more natural or raw food. Everyone in the shop was extremely helpful and gave me samples to make sure my spoiled kitty was happy!
I always look forward to going into the store to pick up my cat’s food and treats. They know me by name, and we always take time to chat. They always make sure to let me know of any new products they think I will be interested in. Also, they have a pretty great rewards program!
I will definitely not be going anywhere else in St. Louis for my pet supplies!

New location, same great service. My cat Yuri went yesterday for his biannual lion cut. He was pretty scared when we got there but seemed quite happy when I picked him up! He loves Rebecca and his new hairdo!
Also regarding the other review giving a one star for pricing, Pets in the City is reasonably priced and you get what you pay for. It may not be the absolute cheapest option in town, but I’m always happy to pay a little extra to make sure my pets are safe and treated well!

I LOVE Pets in the City! (and Kramer, too) I shop here frequently for my dog and my three cats. In addition, I shop here for my clients. Pets in the City has dog and cat food that some other reviewers call «High end» but I feel that is somewhat derogatory. The food that Pets in the City sells is better for your pets because it is food that has been carefully sourced by the owners and staff for quality: quality protein sources, no additives or preservatives, no extra dye in the food, no extra fillers, quality carbs, raw diets if that’s what you prefer. Many of the foods are grain free, novel proteins, or low in phosphorus (for kidney failure patients). They even have vegetarian food that is low in protein (also a plus for kidney failure patients).
They have quality toys for cats and dogs that don’t fall apart in a week. Everything in this store is QUALITY, which means you might pay a little more BUT it’s going to be healthier for your pet, or last longer. You get what you pay for you know.
Since Pets in the City moved from Soulard to Grand/​44, it is closer to my house in Tower Grove South. The parking has never been issue for me. I simply park on Castleman and walk around the corner. No big deal. If I have a lot to carry back to my car, a staff member (even if it’s the manager or owner) will offer to help me out to my car with my purchases. The staff has always offered help, even when they were located in Soulard — so this is nothing new. The staff has been great: helpful, knowledgeable; even comic relief at times. Kramer, the shop cat, can be a little sassy, but he’s old so I let him get away with it. :-)
There is a bus stop right in front of the store, so if you are one of those wonderful people cutting down on oil use, you can rest assured that you can get to Pets in the City with ease. It’s right off a major highway (44) as well.
I love supporting small businesses, especially a business like Pets in the City. I recommend them to friends, neighbors, and clients all the time.

This is the same pet store that was formerly in Soulard. I’m curious as to what necessitated the move, but it’s nice that they’re closer to my house.
They have a more-​than-​reasonably-​priced dog wash ($ 10/​wash, w/​6^th — i think — free). I wash my dogs here often. It removes the need to clean my own tub (or give them a hose bath in the yard in the dead of winter) and keeps their hair from clogging the plumbing.
Their supplies are a bit on the high-​end of prices, but I’m eager to see what sort of increase in stocks they have now that they seem to have a bit more retail space to work with.
