i recently lost my job and was(thankfully) able to find work out of state. Although a «lease-is-a-lease»(legally), Saum/Hutcheson management did everything they could to rent my apartment as soon as possible and minimize my legal obligations to finish out the lease. They did not have to do this, but they did. I also just have to address some of the negative reviews I have seen posted. 1: «Things went „missing“ during my move.» Well, you’re in the city. The Big City… Saint Louis! You need to keep an eye on your stuff. if you leave things sitting around, unobserved, while loading in and out of the building… guess what? Sometimes bad people take rhem. This is NOT the fault of the apartment management. 2: «Plumbing problems… Crud, hair, urine, semen(??WTF??) backed up into my tub.» Okay…I won’t even delve into how that person performed the detailed forensic analysis to determine the individual constituents of the«crud» that backed up into their tub. But, this can happen in apts, especially high rise buildings. The Saum/Hutcheson are beautiful, historic buildings. Old buildings have issues on occasion. It happens… but maintenance has always responded promptly to any issues, plumbing ir otherwise. ALSO: Old buildings in the city use window unit air conditioners. Just a fact of life… everywhere. And if you let it run when its cold outside, you destroy the compressor. My unit went bad, and it was replaced without question. Why? BECAUSE I DIDNOTRUNITWHENITWASCOLDOUTSIDE! Plumbing: My(two) plumbing issues(kitchen sink and bathtub) were handled immediately, professionally, and had rapid responses at very late calls in the early morning hours. Make no mistake… apartment life in a high rise building built in the early 20th century requires a certain amount of understanding on the tenants part. But I have witnessed management replacing hundreds of feet of vertical piping… tearing out and patching plaster walls in multiple units, at what must have been considerable(necessary) expense… and FIXING the problem! Just to resolve my kitchen sink backing up. I was grateful and impressed. So. .if you want a plain, crackerbox, beige, boring apt with a dishwasher, garbage disposal, a postage stamp«patio» and sliding glass door… look elsewhere. But if you want to live in a building with history, character, a staff that truly cares and wants to help fix any issues… on SOUTHBROADWAY!!! With window views of the Arch, close to everything cool in STL, in Tower Grove Park, spending breezy summer evenungs with your friend just looking out your window at the city, way up in the sky… then this is a place to consider. (I miss it already…)

The management is so great and really take the time to get to know you. I’ve lived here for almost a year and we just signed our contract for another year! We love it here. The apartment is beautiful. It has this gorgeous ceiling and wall molding and has a really classic vintage 20s feel. The location is fantastic. It’s close to the interstate, the fabulous Fox theatre, and so many delicious food places in the Shaw area. We love living in the city!

Building has since changed management. HORRIBLEEXPERIENCE. In short liars and thieves. Expensive items«disappeared» during my move out without explanation. Management was not cooperative whatsoever. This place is going down and fast. Buyer beware!

Worst management I’ve ever encountered. I’ve been having plumbing issues since I moved in 5 months ago that still hasn’t been resolved. About once or twice a week I come home to «crude» in my bath tub. This«crude» consist of hair, shampoo, rusty goo, probably someone’s urine, and to top it off, a good possibility of semen. Description of place in Craigslist ad described Internet, cable tv, a/c, heat, and water. Heat worked great after they fixed the valves on my radiator and basic cable is nice. Internet is only in the lobby, not the entire building. A/C is window units that are very outdated and will probably burn out soon, only to be blamed on the tenet that they were run when it was too cold outside. Don’t move here.
