History

Established in 1984.

Don Upton started the business back in 1984. He operated the business with unparalleled integrity. His philosophy has always been keep prices low and do what needs to be done to make the customer happy. If the customer is happy with you and they are not over charged they will tell others about you. This business model helped to make Upton Heating and Air Conditioning a successful company for 30 years. We are a small company but if success is judged by happy customers then we are a very successful indeed.

At 85 years old Don finally went into semi-​retirement this year and turned over the reigns of the company to Matthew Hegenbart. Don said in the 30 years he was in business he never met anyone who he would trust with his customers until he met Matt. Matt has been in the heating and air business since 1997. He has vast experience in both residential and commercial HVAC. According to the customers who have been with Upton since the beginning Don couldn’t have made a better choice.

Matt graduated at the top of his class from Capital City Trade and Technical Institute in Austin TX. Upon graduating Matt went to work in commercial and industrial Test and Balance where he worked for Dell Computers, Texas Instruments, Motorola and other high tech companies working in their clean rooms. Matt then went to work for Honeywell setting up load shedding pilot programs for utility companies across the country to help control energy demand during peak use periods. Longing to get off the road Matt returned home to northern California to learn the in’s and out’s of residential heating and air conditioning. Upon moving to Sacramento in 2006 Matt entered the commercial HVAC field becoming an expert in the most up to date commercial controls and variable refrigerant flow systems. Matt had always wanted to be in business for himself and after years working along side Don Upton Matt finally got his chance when Don decided to go into semi-​retirement. Matt is now owner of Upton Air.
