A little piece of Pacific paradise on J street. This spot offers unique clothing perfect for Sacramento summers or your upcoming beach trip. The prices aren’t cheap but you’re obviously paying for quality and I was able to score my Cuba bound father a classic rayon dress shirt. The gentleman that own this spot is a delight to chat with and I’m so glad we have local gems like Swambergs… shop local!

Older person working was very very rude. Did not feel welcome at all in the store. I wanted to get a Curtis Park shirt but after walking in I wanted to leave right away, and so I did. Never going back to this place.

Very unique shop. In fact, I would say, this is Lauren’s shop. Everything in here seems to be stuff he enjoys, from the top-​of-​the-​line Hawaiian shirts, to excellent sandals, to tiki mugs, to vintage-​style baseball t-​shirts and baseball gear. That’s the kind of shop I really enjoy, where the owner’s personality and likes are really on display, and everything in the store is something they’re passionate about and know a lot about.
He also makes local-​themed t-​shirts and sweatshirts which are awfully cool and use great material, too.
Lauren is a great guy and will not hesitate to help you out, tell you all about what he’s selling, give you recommendations, and even let you know about cool stuff going on in the community.
Great store and a really unique part of Midtown!

This is as good as local can get.
Came here to buy the BF an Hawaiian shirt as a gift. The owner was super helpful and friendly. Also got a few other local t-​shirts.
They have selections from Kauai’s Island Soap and Candle Works, including lots of Surfer’s Salve – Burt’s Bees has NOTHING on this stuff. Lotions, soaps… good stuff.
The Hawaiian shirt didn’t fit the BF, and I had to do an exchange, and it was no problem whatsoever. The owner helped point us in the direction of brands and sizes which would work.
There are sandals, t-​shirts, Hawaiian shirts, baseball shirts and also baseball shirts from older leagues.
Great place to pick up a gift for a Father’s Day or Christmas.

I don’t see many clothing stores in midtown where something in the display window always appeals to me. Swanbergs, however, has an extensive if not larger selection of clothing for the male population, making them one of my first go-to’s when seeking out something fun and casual for summer fun.
I should note that they specialize in sports-​themed and Hawaiian-​themed clothes, so don’t come in expecting top of the line fashions. The whole shop is about casual living. I’d wear something from here to a barbecue, beach or baseball game, but that’s about it. If you’re a baseball fan, they have the best selection of shirts (for men and women) I’ve ever seen. Just be prepared to pay a pretty penny because nothing here is particularly cheap.
Besides some inflated prices, this is a one-​stop shop for the flip-​flop-​wearing-​casual-​beach-​bum-​warm-​weather enthusiast. In other words, it’s right up my alley.

It’s not often one finds a retail business which prides itself on building lasting customer relationships anymore. You will not find a better example of true customer service in a highly relaxed atmosphere. I often come in during lunch or between errands just to look around. Lauren will answer questions, or catch up with me about local happenings, or the last Giants game — it’s never a pressure sell.
Of course, the main reason I go here is for the selection. Swanberg’s is pure, authentic Aloha — they stock a complete range of Hawaiian shirts, from the beer-​swilling beach party look to upscale evening resort shirts. Great local-​themed wear, too. A couple months ago, Lauren turned me on to Olukai beach sandals; they’ve been the most comfortable sandals I’ve ever owned.
The store is packed solid — I’m not kidding, you’d be hard-​pressed to find a wider variety of shirts with so much character.

For anybody who has known me for a length of time they are probably well aware of my dislike for clothes shopping so this spur of the moment experience I had at this clothing store was quite the rarity.
I had walked the stretch of J Street from my hotel near Old Sacramento up to 20 something street to a running shoe and apparel store to pick up my race packet for the half marathon I was in town for, and having done so I was simply checking out local businesses for a nice place for a sit down lunch when something hanging in the window of this store caught my eye, stopped me dead in my tracks and without hesitation brought me inside this store.

The store specializes in Hawaiian shirts, and the friendly young lady behind the counter told me these had arrived quite recently and were already a popular item of sale. Checking out the shirt racks I found one that was in my size. I didn’t pass on it either as I looked it over and took it straight to the counter. Quick and painlessly I paid for my brand new San Francisco Giants authentic Reyn Spooner Hawaiian print shirt (
), and I was, like Giants announcer Duane Kuiper might say, «…outta here!»
My previous Reyn Spooner San Francisco Giants Hawaiian shirt was from way back in 2000 when Pacific Bell Park (now AT&T Park) was featured on the print, but this one has both the Giants’ recent World Series Champions logos featured on it. I’m ready for the 2013 baseball season now! Thank you Swanbergs!

Loren the shop owner is awesome! He carries an eclectic selection of men’s shirts – from Hawaiian to rocker – so you can find anything you need. Really helpful and knowledgeable. Bought a cool shirt for a good friend and he loves it!

Way cool place for some really cool shirts! If you can’t find exactly what your looking for, just ask Loren the shop owner. He knows his stuff, so if he doesn’t have it, he most likely knows how to find it.
If you see something you like, make sure and get it, cause it will probably be gone the next time you stop by. The inventory changes frequently, so there’s always something different.
This place is going to keep me looking good!

Proving that shopping local is fantastic…
Knowing about this little gem, seems to run in my family. Maybe its the plethora of Hawaiian shirts… maybe its the SF Giants shirts… or maybe its the SF Niners shirts… or maybe it’s just a great, local company.
Its as if the 808 threw up in here. Hawaiian paraphernalia lines all the walls, every rack, every INCH of this place. However, if you’re in the know then you know they hold some of the most sacred shirts here — sports themed, Hawaiian shirts. A niche market, I’m guessing, but one that my family fully supports.
My last interaction with them was fabulous. I needed a birthday present for my dad, who is a rather hefty guy, so his size isn’t that average — 2XL. So I went on their Unilocal and found their address. Promptly contacted them via email. Shortly thereafter I heard a response. Not only did she have what I needed, she was even willing to hold it for a week — even though this was a hot commodity. Literally, she had a new shipment in when I called and when I went into pick up my hold, I was told people had been calling to try and buy my shirt from them.
True to their word they held it for me. I walked in bought the shirt and know my dad will be ecstatic with this one of a kind gem. Sometimes shopping local isn’t all its cracked up to be, but Swanbergs reminded me how novel and awesome of an experience it can be.

Swanbergs is the best place in Sacramento to find Tiki and Tiki-​inspired gifts… Lauren the owner is incredibly nice, helpful and knowledgeable… When I was shopping for gifts for my husband’s birthday, he gave me advice and bits of info on the collection of Tiki mugs that he had available… very cool! :)
And of course, as other reviewers have mentioned, Swanbergs has lots of Hawaiian shirts and Island-​inspired clothing (mostly for men, but there is a small collection of women’s dresses, shirts) in addition to all the gifty items. Just a fun, unique place… there are also little Tiki events from time to time.

B G. I agree with you, this all that is Buffett. I was looking for a perfect pair of Reef’s and with help from another Parrothead I was told to go here. If your looking for fashion that is everything Summer come here. They didn’t have the exact pair of sandals I wanted so, they gave me a catalog and said we’ll order anything out of there. So after getting a basic pair of Reef’s (which is part of the midtown must have attire) I ordered thee perfect pair of sandals to be in stock in 2 days. Don’t walk by, step in and get a perfect Tiki, Hawaiian, Beach loving attire or kitchy mai tai glass. Keep small business alive in Midtown.

We previously frequented Swanberg’s in Curtis Park and Swanberg’s on X Street across from Home Style. Swanberg’s on J is the new, old Swanberg’s for Men. The current space features a roomier layout, more products, and a great feel that’s at home on fun and funky J Street.
I found a perfect gift on Swanberg’s sale rack, but also took time to peruse the moderately priced racks and shelves of Sacramento, vintage (looking), and mild-​to-​extreme Hawaiian shirts — plus a ton of tchotchkes and kitschy bits.
I recommend Swanberg’s for Father’s Day gifts. I scored a subdued Hawaiian shirt for $ 45 in a gift box.

Walked in this store looking for a Father’s Day present. Mentioned to the owner (who was working the store at the time) that I had seen a shirt in the window a few weeks back and vaguely described it to him. He instantly knew what shirt I was referring to and knew that he had the size I needed stored away! He pulled it out and even showed me a couple other options/​colors. VERY friendly guy, even gave me a card to put in and carefully boxed it in a USPS box and gave me detailed instructions on how to ship it using the self-​serve kiosk at the post office! Recommended shipping options too! Truly the best service I have had in a while, I will surely be back to select Christmas gifts for my father as well! Can’t wait to tell all my dad’s friends about this store too as they are all into the Hawaiian/​Tikki style shirts and accessories!

Yikes — this place is like being thrown into a Jimmy Buffett concert with all the Hawaiian shirts and beach paraphernalia
Easily overlooked are the true gems of this store: the Sacramento neighborhood shirts/​sweatshirts. They have a few in stock (Midtown, East Sac, Land Park), but they are available to be custom made. The salesperson told me that they’ll embroider any neighborhood on a variety of clothing items (hoodie sweatshirts, zip sweatshirts, long/​short sleeve tees, etc). I think the price is about $ 25 for a short sleeve tee. Definitely worth checking out —- when I was in there they were just about to update their website with the neighborhood options.
Now I’ll finally be able to represent East Sac in a peaceful, non-​destructive manner (unlike my current habit of tagging public and private property).
