So far all of our service has been reasonable and good. We’ve never been overcharged in our minds. We keep coming back so that says something. They are very convent with easy drop off and pick up before and after work.

They always do a great job with my car — fast. Good communication throughout the repair process. I’ve never had the slightest bit of trouble with their work and will continue to bring my vehicles to them.

I stopped by here as I took my car to another mechanic and was not happy with my quote ($ 710). I stopped by Fort and spoke to Nick (the owner) for a quote for the same job without telling him my original quote including parts and his quote was $ 450. He informed me how much each part was and how much labor should be and that it was a routine job. The labor cost at both places where the same (around $ 90 to $ 100 an hour). I will take my car here from now on, as it is hard to find a good mechanic. I would highly recommend. Daniel and Kristina

This place is the best. I bring my 2007 Subaru and 2006 Toyota here whenever it needs work or regular maintenance. Nick, the owner, is rare breed of mechanic, one who knows what he’s doing, is able to explain it to me, and stands behind his work. He’s always stuck to his estimates. All that, and the shop is a short walk from the 16^th Street light rail station, too. Can’t ask for much more.

These guys rock! The most important thing about a mechanic is integrity. Im somewhat familiar with mechanical needs and I’ve never had any doubts about what they are telling me regarding their suggestions are nor the estimates. The work is timely and effective. I highly recommend!

Took my car here when Tom owned. Now New owners.

I’m driving up to Seattle in a few days and wanted to get the fluids and tires checked. My stepfather suggested that I stop by Fort Sutter Automotive. They were quick, friendly and honest. I would highly recommend them.

Tom, the owner at Fort Sutter, has been our trusted family mechanic for many years for all our cars. He is honest and reliable and very knowledgeable. The responsiveness is great. I have stopped in multiple times with problems that need a quick look and he will always help me out. If there is an issue that requires a dealer, like with the hybrid system on our Prius, he will refer me without any thought of keeping the business for himself. Plus Tom and Eric and the other guys are always nice and very patient. We have referred many friends there and have always gotten great feedback.

My husband and I have taken our cars to Fort Sutter for 11 years. Tom, the owner, is the most honest, nicest, and knowledgeable mechanic on the planet.
I’ve been to many repairs shops and mechanics in my life, so I know a good one when I meet one. He always tells you the truth, the least expensive way to fix the problem, and when you can let a problem go for a while longer before getting it fixed.
We both recommend Fort Sutter whenever the opportunity arises. We also give him Christmas fudge or whatever we’re making during the holidays. Tom and his crew are Sacramento treasures.

My little 1994 Subaru Legacy with 212,000+ miles is thankful for Tom and Fort Sutter Automotive. Yep… he did it all for less. Long list of much needed repairs but my darling Sub is driving like a new girl. I had estimates at other places but Tom came in under the wire. And today when I had some issues with a little bit of a shake he got it out on the road, made a few adjustments, and she’s back with me. There are other great auto shops in Midtown, but check out Fort Sutter and get roaring down the road.

I adore Fort Sutter Automotive. One day I left for work and this awful clicking came from under the hood. It was super loud and wouldn’t stop no matter what I tried. I turned around and went back home to have the hubs start calling around for a mechanic. Tom’s and Paul’s both had like a three-​day wait to even get my car in there. Well, that wasn’t going to work with this loud sound shaking throughout my vehicle.
Finally we called Fort Sutter Automotive. The owner, Tom, was able to fit us in right away and said to come by anytime that morning. We brought the car in, quickly described the issue, and were off. He called me a little later to explain what they found (broken A/​C compressor) and offer an estimate. It was a whopping $ 800 or so because of the serpentine belt work. My husband, little shopper that he is, called around quickly to other shops. Most estimates were about $ 1100 for the same job. We called Tom back and gave him the go-​ahead.
Unfortunately since we brought the car in on a Friday they couldn’t quite finish it up that same day. They were closed Saturday and Sunday but first thing Monday morning I got a call saying they’d just finished and my car was ready for pick up. I paid for the parts, labor, and diagnostic and I’m pretty sure I heard my wallet crying. Still, it was an expensive job to be done and Tom offered me the best price.
Also, when he found out I’d walked 11 blocks to get there to pick up my car he said he was so sorry and next time to let him know and he would pick me up. Now that is some old school service right there. Now I guess I should take my car back in to him for that sputtering and squeaky brakes…
Edit 7÷19÷11: I had my brakes fixed with Fort Sutter for another reasonable price and speedy work. Just recently, a few months after the A/​C compressor fiasco it crapped out again, this time on the freeway. We called Tom and mentioned he’d fixed it in March and he told us to come in right away. He explained it wasn’t grounded and after a few quick tricks, it was all better. He said this was just the first try in fixing it and to drive around for a few days to see how it was.
It blew cold air but gave us a little scare and warmed up a couple times so we brought it back in a week later and he assured us he’d fix it. He recharged the freon and voila, it’s working like a charm. Fort Sutter STANDS BY their work and makes sure you’re issue is resolved. That is some old school business practices right there, in a good way.
