My 2^nd job ever was stocking shoes at a shoe store in a large mall. The assistant manager noticed how hard I worked and asked me to clean windows and carpets for him. Not long after being trained he sold me the window cleaning part of the business and moved out of state. The business consisted of 3 store fronts in the same mall as the shoe store earning $ 100 per month. I would spend a ½ hour washing windows on my lunch hour one day a week. It took me one month to realize I was earning $ 50 per hour washing windows and $ 1.90 per hour stocking shoes (remember it was 1979). 33 years later my equipment has greatly improved but it seems my hourly rate has not.
