Brower Mechanical

September 21, 2015. 3:30 pm. They had us wait for four hours for a service appointment only to discover they wrote the incorrect phone number to let us know they were coming. Not even an apology.

I received an AC service from the government rebate program and called Brower, having done an earlier AC service by Bell Brothers. Brower rep wrote down a laundry list of itemes that needed repairs totaling $ 1K and future repairs of over $ 1K. However, some items said to be problem areas were checked fine or were already cleaned by Bell Brothers, such as the coil but was marked as «Very Dirty» by Brower rep and estimated to cost $ 358 to clean.

Buyer Beware!
I purchased a 15K+ energy upgrade package from Brower which included blown in insulation, sealing vents and canned lighting, high efficiency water heater, and complete Trane HVAC system through the state’s energy upgrade promotion. From my point of view, they sold me an AC that is either a lemon, or the system was not properly installed because I’ve had a refrigerant leak in my system within months of its install.
You decide, but if you pay Brower to fix a refrigerant leak last year, wouldn’t you expect NOT to have any more issues with a refrigerant leak? Especially since it’s a Trane product, and «Nothing stops a Trane,» right? So again, did I get sold a lemon, or was the install/​repair faulty?
Brower originally wanted $ 1100+ to replace a leaking coil in my system so again, I argued that either they sold me a lemon or was there a deficiency with the install and repair? Finally, after about a month of back and forth with the management, we finally came to an acceptable shared price for the repairs.
We were told by the last technician who diagnosed the coil leak to not run the AC, so we’ve been without AC since May and throughout all those triple digits days in the Sacramento area. When I finally reached a VP the week before, he said there was no reason for me not to run my AC. Unfortunately, because it’s been so long, there was not enough refrigerant left in the system for any effective cooling.
Then last week, Brower finally called to get me scheduled for the replacement of the old coil and new coil install. I was told potentially last Friday (⁷⁄₃₁), but definitely Monday (⁸⁄₃). There was no confirmation email or phone calls either way about whether they were available for Friday, so just in case, I cleared my schedule for the day. They didn’t show up or call. My wife cleared her schedule today (⁸⁄₃) for Brower, and they never showed up either. Finally I called back Brower’s scheduler and was told that it must have been me who misunderstood her. I agree there was obviously a miscommunication, but it was presumptuous that I am the one who misunderstood or misheard her versus her misstating the time/​date or being originally too vague and ambiguous.
So consider my experiences before you go with them. Also, if you live further away from Rocklin/​Roseville, it’s likely that Brower will factor in the drive time/​mileage into your bill. If that’s the case, you might ask yourself if it’s worth it to go with them versus another reputable outfit that may be located closer to you.
The last shady experience I want to relay is that last year, Brower called me out of the blue and told me as part of my state energy upgrade purchases, they were «required» by PG&E to take check my system and take some readings to make sure it was working within the energy efficiency parameters. It was suppose to be «at no charge» to me was what they said. After they showed up and spent an hour poking around my system, they confirmed it was working within normal parameters, but that there was still room for improvement. I was then told if I didn’t go forth with these recommended upgrades that PG&E again, would rebate, then I would owe them the cost of them poking around for the past hour as their «service» charge. However, if I agree to their UPSELL of a new, more efficient blower motor, then the overall cost would only be about ¹⁄₃ of the original cost, especially AFTER I purchase their Residential Service Agreement (RSA) up front. Unlike an outfit such as a Greiner Heating & Air, which I subscribed to up to that time for their seasonal maintenance plan and paid on a monthly basis, I was required to pay for Brower’s RSA up front. I believe there was another Unilocal review from almost 2 years ago which documents a similar experience by another person.
I know, «BUYER BEWARE» right? I have met some nice people within the Brower organization and this feeling of familiarity is probably what caused me to set aside my good judgment in spending so much money with them. All to have them deflect responsibility at every opportunity, from the mechanical issues with my AC system, to today, with the scheduling no-​show.
You may never have any issues with your Brower installed system and be limited to seasonal maintenance visits by your super friendly AC/​furnace technician, and be completely satisfied with them and give them a 5 star review on here. If that’s the case, consider yourself lucky. However, if you have any problems with your system, I hope they don’t give you the same obstructionist run around as they did with me. I don’t believe it is unreasonable for me to expect a higher level of service and accountability from them, especially considering the amount of money I have spent with them.

The last three days, Richard and Ian were in our palace to install our new HVAC system. They arrived each morning on time and ready to work. Richard and Ian were personable and put us at ease while working in our house. They both wore booties while walking throughout our home and made sure that drop cloths were placed everywhere they walked. At the end of the day, they thoroughly cleaned up and left our house better than when they arrived. In addition, it was over a hundred the last few days… making it well over a hundred and forty degrees in the attic. The men never complained and worked through it. Thank you Richard and Ian for installing our new HVAC system and being respectful in our home.

Mark Ross helped me out when I was buying a home and needed a HVAC unit inspected right away and it was found to be a defective unit. We found out the HVAC was an issue at the last minute from the home inspector and most companies will not look at the HVAC, unless you own the home for some reason. I was told the estimate given was a good deal by people in the construction field.

Brower takes great care of our 15 heat pumps. Professional and courteous. Thank you for all you do!

We had a very good experience with Brower Mechanical.
We had a lot of work done and added Solar. They were here for a week and did a spectacular job. They were always here when they said they would be and did more than they were contracted to do. The Solar and attic upgrades all passed city inspections with flying colors. The Sales Manager, Mark, was wonderful to work with as well as Kay in the finance department. The service technicians were neat and efficient and very pleasant to work with. They worked very hard, and took the time to answer all of my questions. Really wonderful! I would be proud to recommend them to anyone.

Brower Mechanical made corrective action & I can say that this company stand by their word. Because of what they did, I can recommend their service to anyone.

I have been using Brower since I moved into my house about 10 years ago and they are the absolute BEST! They lowered my air ducts, covered them with insulation, air sealed my home and showed me how to claim both energy rebates and IRS rebates. On top of that, my energy bill during winter and summer went down about 42%. Outstanding service, very professional and very serious about a job well done. I won’t use anyone else, ever!

2 times Brower has been out to our home. The first time was fine. The sincerest form of flattery for a service like this would be speed, efficiency and getting it done. They replace our fan the first time and when a few weeks later the unit was blowing warm air we called for a tech to come check it out. 8am Saturday appt was fine with us. The technician I guess called out sick so they had to send someone later in the day. 1130 am, No problem. Until the tech arrived that is. Everyone has bad days but our technician world must’ve been falling apart. I almost caught a case; Luckily, Jackie was at the office and was able to calm us down and handle our complaint with pride and amazing customer service.
CODY, oh Cody, you poor lost soul. How dare you come into my home and speak to me in the manner in which you did. Telling me that you took the service call on your day off «to be a nice guy». It’s not the message you relayed when you told me you needed to talk to the property manager before telling me what is wrong, It’s the manner in which you told me. Speaking down to me because I don’t own this property? I’m sure I pay more in rent than you make in an entire year buddy. We do indeed own 2 rental properties so when you said «if you owned a property; you would understand.» you were talking out your arse indeed. Then you left my ac unit filter door swinging from the ceiling and go dirt all over my floor. Cody, if you don’t like your job; quit. Don’t take your frustrations of having to come in on your day off out on your customers. Why should I even know this information you unprofessional twit.
Word of advice: Remember, when you’re in someone’s home to talk to them with dignity and respect or you may eventually find yourself in danger. I’m not an hvac specialist BUT that does not give you the right to talk to people like they are unintelligent. When I told you not to come back to this property, I meant it. I’m certain we have a service agreement with Brower. But agent Cody Wanks is not welcome. LoL
Ac unit 3weeks prior was blowing at 59 degrees with 102degrees outside temp. Now it’s blowing at 73 degrees at 84 degrees outside. thus prompting our call. 73 may be within the service standard but it was a marked decrease from when we had our fan replaced a few weeks ago. Cody stomped around our house with his piss additude and did nothing and recommended nothing to restore the units prior efficiency. He couldn’t tell us the unit was fine or not before talking to the property manager Wtf?
People do yourself a favor and if you use Brower. Call Jackie and ask for a rep other than Cody.

They installed my ac unit after it went out today. I must say that these are the most professional lot of guys ever. They are efficient fast and my AC works amazing. Thanks so much!!!

This was our first experience with Brower Mechanical, and my husband and I were thrilled with Jordan, the technician who rescued us when our HVAC system appeared to have died an ugly death on a very hot day. He probably could have sold us the sun, moon and stars, but he was precise in his diagnosis, described what he was going to do first, and then the next step, and was meticulous in his work at every step. He was able to repair the system with the replacement of one electrical part that had failed, the price was very reasonable (giant relief!), he showed us the failed part and stayed a generous amount of time afterward so the system could cycle on and off again 3 times… just to be sure it was fully functional before he left. Nice. If Jordan represents the Brower Mechanical staff in general, then we’ll never go elsewhere for HVAC repairs. We’ve already invited him to check our business HVAC system as well. Cannot recommend Jordan highly enough.

Great company!!! I have trusted Brower Mechanical over the years for maintenance as well as repairs and replacement. Fair pricing, knowledgeable technicians, timely service. Doesn’t get any better than this. Pete does a great job!

I received 2 bids on replacing my heat/​ac combo unit on my home. Brower was higher priced but I went with them because of the good reviews. They also were using a different brand of unit than the other place I received a bid from. I asked them if they could install the other brand of unit that their competitor used and they agreed to do that. They installed the unit and that night we turned it on and it did not go on. It took them 4 visits to fix it. We had no heat for several cold nights and I took off work several days to be here for the service tech. Come to find out their excuse for all the service calls was that they normally don’t install the brand I requested (which was a major brand by the way) and that they weren’t up on the latest training and service bulletins for it. But they did not tell me that when they agreed to install that brand. It finally was fixed and I called and talked to the person in charge of financial matters and said I was unhappy that I paid more for the installation of the same unit the other place would have installed for less given the fact that I had taken time off work (which is expensive for me since I run my own service business by myself). And would they at least consider matching the price of the competitor that quoted me the same unit and installation for less. I just felt shafted because not only did I pay more for the installation and the heating and air unit itself but I ended up paying even more on top of that when you consider work lost on those days I had to be there for the tech. They declined my request. I then talked to one of the owners and he didn’t even apologize for the inconvenience that this had caused me. He said he couldn’t match the price of the other company (C & R). He said he lost too much money paying the techs to come out (to repair a newly installed unit from THEIR company). Well what about my time and money? He was arrogant and didn’t seem to care about my side of it at all. He did offer a free tune up when it was due but why would I want them to come out if he already admitted that they weren’t up on servicing this particular brand? Amazing. I do NOT recommend.

Can’t say enough wonderful things about this company… My wife and I carefully researched 5 separate HVAC repair companies prior to narrowing it down to two, of which we received bids on. We were impressed by the professionalism and pricing of both, but are now absolutely elated that we chose Brower Mechanical.
We had a number of efficiency issues with our old heating and air system, as well as some general health concerns with regard to air quality. Mitch came to our home and stayed for almost 3.5 hours diagnosing various issues (Technically it took him all of about 30 minutes to locate the specific problems, but he took the time and care to spend the additional hours educating us). Mitch was extremely knowledgeable, patient and professional. He didn’t try to push any product or sell any costly overhaul package. The solution he designed was specific to the problems we were having and not some sort of bolt on solution. He gave us two great options, and we chose the one that was a little easier on our pocket, which was the one he recommended from the start (Who does that these days?).
The crew who came to our home to do the work were equally impressive (Bob & Chris). These guys always arrived on time, took the time to educate my wife and I on overall progress, answered any questions we had, and cleaned up to perfection. These guys even came back out to reassess a few items after the job was complete. Their home office even followed up with us after the job was complete to make sure we were happy with everything.
Now that the job is complete, the improvement is absolutely remarkable. It really has made our home a much more enjoyable place to be on both hot and cold days.
We are sooooo pleased that we chose Brower Mechanical. Mitch, Bob and Chris are amazing!!!

Brower mechanical was friendly … Professional… And did a wonderful job… They came out … Assessed… We’re very clear on the problems … Showed me pictures … Explained in detail about the problems… Made an appointment … They were very easy to work with my crazy schedule… And when they finished their work it was a top notch job. I have never used them before but I will in the future for sure

Bait and switch. I waited three weeks for the Roseville rebate program to begin so that I could have a free energy audit done on my house. I was told by Keith that they would come in with their infrared camera, blower door test, HVAC evaluation, look over my past 12 months of energy bills and give me a thorough energy efficiency report so that I could take advantage of the rebates and make informed decisions on where to spend my money. when their consultant showed up he says he is here to give me a quote for a full HVAC package that runs about 14−16k. I said what about the energy audit? Oh that’s not free and Roseville doesn’t pay us enough to make it worth our «office» time. If you want that it’s $ 199. What a scam. I have no problem on them trying to earn work but to blatantly lie to get their foot in the door is plain wrong. I would stay clear.

We found Brower through the State Fair where they offered us a free heating and air conditioning check up to see if we were eligible for state and utility company programs. They came out and ran the most comprehensive set of tests measuring the loss of heat, leaks for air to get into the house, Flow of air through our ducts and heading system, and used infrared cameras to find air leaks. It was amazing.
Our house is not old, it was built about 7 years ago as a tract home but unfortunately with very sloppy workmanship. Brower re-​ran all of our ducts placing them on the attic floor instead of up in the air where they would get hot or cold. They sealed all of the holes in our attic causing heat to be lost. They added an additional intake vent to improve the flow of air through our system, and they buried all of our vents in foam insulation that they shot all over the attic.
Today, we have had some very cool nights and our heater hardly ever goes on compared to hearing it run constantly before they did their magic. Several of the rooms upstairs were freezing and are now comfortable.
Even more amazing were Brower’s people. The salesman was a professional and never acted like a salesman. He helped us understand what was happening and why what they proposed would improve the heating and air. The office staff were excellent, and every single person who came out to do the work was just amazing in terms of their expertise and politeness and dedication to doing a great job and making us happy customers.
A totally awesome and 100% trust worthy company with magnificent employees.

Wow. HVAC excellence. I turned on my AC last night and hot air came out. It’s 100 degrees outside and its fast approaching 100 degrees inside. Not knowing who to pick from when looking at the long list of HVAC providers, i called a friend who recommended Brower Mechanical. I called them up and they had someone there; probably one of their best and coolest engineers, Josh, show up right on time.
Josh diagnosed the problem right away after looking at my heater (electric heat pump) and seeing that my thermostat was a gas heat. Big problem. The thermostat was telling the heater to turn and the AC was being completely neglected. This was done in about 2 minutes. Just to be safe, Josh went outside to check the AC compressor and found that the freon levels were fine.
Additionally, he advised me to insulate the cooling line from the compressor to the house. Good call! Lastly, I told him about a problem I was having with air circulation and he recommended a solution that would allow me to regulate the flow of air in each room. I even picked up some tips on installing more energy efficient windows to save money! Josh was definitely efficient and knowledgeable.
When I called Brower, the ladies on the phone were very friendly and courteous. This has definitely been my best experience working with a contractor to fix a problem on the house. I would and will reccommend Brower Mechanical to anyone who needs HVAC work.
