Illumination Dance Studio is a beautiful, safe space dedicated to art of bellydance and related movement arts. We provide a warm community environment where all are welcome. Students have the option to train in various forms of bellydance, with a focus on strong technique, fun and acceptance of all people, and an emphasis in personal growth and expression.

History

Established in 2009.

Illumination Dance Studio started out as a bellydance collective; a space for local teachers to conduct classes. While we still operate in this way, we also include yoga, swing dance, capoeira, and rent to other dancers in the community. In September 2015, we shifted to a full-​on sliding scale economy, with a focus on ensuring that students find ways to be involved and participate in our community if they cannot afford the full price of classes. We have also expanded our programming to include teen mentorship and a community garden, which will launch in the spring of 2016.

Business Owner

Khalima’s goal as an instructor is to provide a strong technical foundation while having fun, and allowing students to become better acquainted with their bodies, spirit, and individuality through dance, while staying rooted in the culture and traditions that are the foundation of bellydance. She is also a sought after nationally traveling performer and producer of events in Richmond, and enjoys the creative process with her wonderful students!
