History
Established in 1972.
Krause’s Chocolates is a third generation family business. As a young man, our grandfather, Alfred Krause apprenticed as a candy maker in Germany. When he was thirteen, he immigrated to the United States where he continued to study and perfect the art of candy making. In 1929 he and his wife Hanna, opened the first Krause’s Candy store. It has been a thriving family business ever since. Alfred and Hanna’s children, Ingrid and Manfred followed in their parents’ footsteps by opening stores of their own.
In 1972 Manfred opened his candy store in Saugerties, New York. In 2001 his son Karl took over the family business he had been working in since age ten. Karl’s many years of experience as a confectioner is evident in the superior quality of his chocolates. Based on his grandfather Alfred’s original recipes, he has added his own touches to create a hand-made, hand-dipped chocolate with no equal.
