I decided to try Tacos Los Gemelos for lunch a couple of days ago. Tacos Los Gemelos is located on El Camino Real opposite to BevMo in Redwood City. It shares a tiny lot with another couple of businesses so during the peak lunch hour it was completely full and I had to find street parking. The restaurant itself was about half full. This is a standard Taqueria like a ton of others in Redwood city so with a menu that is pretty standard across all of them and includes tacos, burritos, sopes, tortas, stews and meat plates with rice and beans. I decided to get the Birria de Chivo($ 11.50) which is beef stew to go. Prep time was under 10 minutes so I was off in no time. The Birria de Chivo was the consistency of a thin diluted soup instead of a thick stew. I’ve had Birria before so know that its not a thick stew in the traditional sense but this was outright watery. It had some flavor but it tasted mild at best. They do give you a red chili oil(like you get in Chinese restaurants) that you can add to the soup to make it more spicy so that helped a but I’d prefer not to depend on just heat to get any flavor out a of dish. The soup literally had 2 pieces of meat half of which were bones. The meat itself was way overcooked so it was chewy. The Birria de Chivo came with 9 mini tortilla’s. These were thin handmade and were the best part of the meal. I did not see a salsa bar, but I would have liked one as what they gave with the meal was grossly insufficient. Overall I did not like what I ate and felt that the Birria that I got from Chavez Supermarket and Taqueria was a 100 times better that this diluted stuff. Price-wise it was a tad cheaper that what you would pay for Birria at other Taqueria’s but the quality was really lacking. They are cash only so please remember to hit up an ATM before making a stop here and lastly the prices in store are more that the prices published on their website so don’t use that as a reference. Service was fast and the person who took my order was very patient with my general indecision while ordering so that was great. Overall I was did not like what I got but I may go back and try their Tacos as the tortilla’s were great but I’m not inclined to do so in a hurry.

Tacos Los Gemelos has SHATTERED the spell of my taco-prejudice! Redwood City’s tacos truly are as good and sometimes BETTER than Oakland’s. My 5-months-ago self would scoff at me for saying that, and for that I’d SLAP some humility into him for questioning his elder! 5 S T A R S ! ! * BESTCORNTORTILLAS _EVERRRR_ Somebody call Gabriel Iglesias and tell him that freshly made corn tortillas come out FLUFFY! Fluffy, soft, and moist with tiny injera-like air-bubbles on one side, elevating Los Gemelos’ tacos into the stratosphere! Bonus — the SOPES are just as delicate and fresh. Foodies, bookmark this restaurant NOW. * QUALITYTACOSFROMQUALITYMEATS Listed from the very best to the decent rest: : Birria — MEXTACY! Close your eyes and say my name as you gobble down the glorious, and gamy goat. : Cabeza — GREASEISTHEWORD. The most decadent beef they offer. Rub it all over yaself… : Carnitas — OINKOINK — This little piggy went inside my mouth. : Tripitas — HAPPYENTRAILS! Offal bacon – crispy, a little chewy, and all-the-way yummy. : Chorizo — WAKEUP to the home-cooked, skillet-fried flava! : Asada — A SOLIDOFFERING of flavor from the ground beef. : Barbacoa — PRETTYGOOD. Juicy! : Pastor — DECENT. Not particularly awesome, but not bad either. : Chicken — Bahaha, like I’d ever order chicken! * THEIRBIRRIAISTHE G.O.A.T. «Greatest Of All Tiiiime!» — or at least the ‘Greatest Of All Tried!’ Less than a third of taquerias even serve goat on the weekends, so the fact that Gemelos serves it DAILY is kind of a big deal. The goat at Tacos Los Gemelos is better than Chavez Supermarket in Redwood City, better than Otaez in Oakland, better than San Jalisco’s in SF. Even if you don’t like goat, spend the $ 1.35 and take one bite — VEGANS, I’m talking to you! * WELLCRAFTEDREGULARBURRITOS : Birria Burrito Regular — GREAT! The delectable goat meat makes for a fabulous burrito. Burritos are well executed, with smallish tortilla-spine(that annoying interior clump of flour tortilla), and even distribution of filling to the last bite. Not the meatiest burrito ever, but getting the flavorful birria solves that problem. #BURRITOTIP: Super burritos are usually too sloppy and soupy for me. Instead, I go for a regular burrito with a moist and succulent meat like cabeza or greasy carnitas that will not need extra fat. A regular burrito’s flour tortilla tends to stay dry and retain its firmness because it won’t absorb as much liquid from the guac and sour cream. Super burrito tortillas start turning into wet dough after 5 minutes. #ButWhatDoIKnow? * CHEAP, WITHPARKINGANDSEATING A’PLENTY The tacos are $ 1.35, sopes under $ 3, regular burritos under $ 7. Plenty of parking, and friendly vibes from the young staff. Lastly, there’s a BevMo across the street for following up that gamy birria with some smoky mezcal – hummm baby!

We were craving shrimp + Mexican food and Tacos Los Gemelos delivered on both. The tortilla used for the tacos was amazing– clearly homemade. The prices were good, and the service was super friendly. I was surprised that the guacamole was as skippable as it was, given how good everything else was. It was expensive, too, for the tiny portion size. That aside, the flavors in the tacos were stellar, the chips were surprisingly memorable, the shrimps were cooked perfectly… and did I mention the tortillas?

Looking forward to trying all of the Mexican mom-and-pop shops in RWC. Lots of legit tacos here that remind me of SoCal. Tacos Los Gemelos is a well-run, clean restaurant with friendly and fast staff. Tacos are $ 1.25 and small, three-bite tacos. I could probably eat 5 tacos and still spend less than what I would get at a less tasty place in the Mission. Carnitas was good, but al pastor was better. The spicy does pack a little punch. Other options like the carne asada quesadilla that my hubs got was not as good, but that’s his fault for getting a quesadilla to begin with… Horchata was good! No ice and doesn’t come out of those soda dispensers.

I have been coming here for over a year now and every time I’m here I’m pleasantly pleased with the service and the food. Their barbacoa is THEBEST in redwood city and maybe even the entire Bay Area. It’s soft, savory and tasteful. The pricing is reasonable and the best part is the customer service. Their welcoming, polite and friendly.

The best Mexican restaurant I’ve been to in a long time! Very reasonably priced, authentic, and tons of gluten free options. My friend and I split the carnitas plate, and it was more than enough for the two of us. We will definitely be back! P. S. Get the horchata. It will change your life.

Was in town for work from the city. I was looking for a good place for lunch. This place was recommended by the carneceria nearby so I gave it a shot. Drove by and saw a sign that said ‘fresh carnitas’. O. K. I don’t eat pork very often but I love carnitas so I gave it a shot today. The guys working this spot were coo’ One took my order and the other was working the line. I ordered a super burrito instead of a regular because I was told the super had guacamole sour cream cheese COOL! I was starving. Sounds great. I was able to pay w my card, not just a cash only place. Burrito was warm, not hot. O. K. Np I don’t like to send food back or complain. I worked as a server for years not trying to be that picky ass customer. I was going in on the burrito… But, wait. Where’s the crema, where’s the guacamole? The carnitas were pretty skimpy too. 7.99 plus add charge for carnitas=$ 9 dollar burrito. I don’t mind paying good money for good food however there were too many things wrong here not to mention it. Went to the counter and told the guy who took my order what the deal was. I think they should put somewhere on the ordering board or a sign saying up charge for carnitas. Anyway, He asked if I wanted a refund. I said no, but if you could remake it that would be great, thank you very much. He took it to the back and came back and said that they would remake it. GREAT! I’m still hungry, not starving but, you get the point. I get the burro and dig in. It was hot and carnitas seemed like a reasonable portion. About halfway thru or so, I noticed there was no sour cream or guac. *sigh* It’s just food I suppose. Oh well. The whole green Serrano peppers they buy and offer their customers free were bomb. This would of been 4 – 5 stars if it came back correct. Everything else was fine except the food at this restaurant ‘taqueria’. Kudos for them at least trying to make it right. Hope you get what you ordered. Probably won’t be back to eat here. This is the bay – these places are a dime a dozen to choose from. I’m Mexican. I know good Mexican food. Hope this helped you make a decision for lunch.

Super expensive! Not worth it! I order a burrito and a plain small cheese quesadilla no flavor. And a supposed imported coke, all for $ 15. Do not recommend! your better off and cheaper to go to chipotle.

Came out to Tacos Los Gemelos and we were very pleased given the many Mexican restaurants in Redwood City. They have been opened for a bit now but we never gave it a shot. After a quick stop over at Aaron Brothers we decided to try it. Super pleased! The food is very good, not greasy and very authentic. Super Quesadilla to really try out! The hand made tortillas are very good just like back home and the fresh toppings make it an all around great dish. Certainly will be back to try other dishes.

I love this place. I usually get a carnitas wet burrito(spicy) and it is definitely one of my favorites. The wet burrito comes with tortilla chips and pickled jalepinos and carrots. If you dont check out the gemelos, youre missing out!

I ordered taco meat(chicken and steak), and refried beans and cooked veggies on a wednesday before halloween. I wanted enough meat to make 100 tacos of each meat and 50 veggie tacos. I was referred to the person in charge of catering and received a quote of $ 80 per large meat tray which i was told i would need one of each.(i can’t remember how much for veggie/beans-that price didn’t change). I didn’t need any tortillas or condiments just the meat and beans; and I would pick up saturday the 10⁄31 between 1 and 3. Thursday i received a call back stating that the price had been misquoted and that was for a small tray and I would need 2 trays or the equivalent of $ 360 plus the cost of sauteed veggies and the beans. I figured this was still reasonable and gave the OK. Then Saturday morning on Halloween the caterer’s father who i believe is restaurant owner told me no dice-it would actually be more than double that-now the cost was over $ 720 plus. The owner couldn’t even figure out how much meat we needed for 200 tacos. I cancelled the order after the owner would not budge and therefore I was stuck-No tacos for the party. I called Chavez Super Market in Redwood City, they were extremely professional and efficient-told me exactly how much meat we needed, never changed the price and it was hot, delicious steak and chicken diced for tacos ready by 3pm. Total of cost of meat-was around $ 350. PERFECT! I will never go to this restaurant or recommend it to anyone for catering. Extremely unethical to call the day of an event and ask for 4X the original amount. And they completely miscalculated how much meat I would need: chavez figured it out within 5 minutes. I STRONGLY recommend Chavez.

Tacos Los Gemelos is a good taco place. It’s inexpensive and authentic Mexican food that’s easy to access(decent parking lot, right on El Camino Real). The staff is great! They make the trip a really positive experience. I like the chicken tacos(they are default spicy, so be warned). They started using EAT24 recently, though, and it is NOT working out well. It’s not the fault of Los Gemelos; I’ve seen with my own eyes, in person, the faulty equipment(owned and allegedly serviced by EAT24) fail to take and transmit orders properly. For example, I placed an order right from the Unilocal iPhone app for four items. This was about 1:45pm. I was right up the street at the time and I moseyed over to pick up my order(no delivery). Half an hour later, and my order hadn’t even transmitted to the touchscreen hardware; every time the equipment made a sound meaning«hey you have an order,» the staff is supposed to touch the screen to confirm the order and get it to download all the way. Well, I saw the staff try everything possible to get that order to come down and get charged, including watching them call and call(and call) EAT24 for help that didn’t come. Then EAT24 had the nerve to get mad at Los Gemelos for canceling that order and just sending me on my way with a NEW order I made in person. Yeah, see I already waited NINETY minutes for FOUR items. Countless patrons had passed in and out the doors during that time. Bad tech makes a bad experience, and who gets the blame? The restaurant. Tacos Los Gemelos! Dump EAT24 and go with GrubHub/Seamless — do us all a favor!

Honestly these are probably the best tacos I have ever had in the United States. I have had my fair share of great tacos but most of the time they have been in Mexico, specifically Ensenada. The tortillas of the tacos are hand made that is the star of the taco. I can probably eat these tacos all day long. Aside from the tacos they also have many other items on their menu that are exceptionally great. To be frank with you all all the other Taquerias can’t even come close to these tacos. Honestly ever since I’ve tried these tacos my life has changed I have been happier, more exuberant in my ways, and every time I eat tacos I am satisfied.

You’ll go hungry with the small portions, they are stingy with the meat. As far as flavor, they taste like every other taco, nothing to write home about. The service is good and it’s clean. First and last time here.

3.5 stars — so we rounded up since the staff was super nice and the handmade tortillas were delicious. We got asada pastor and aporriadollo(dry beef) The chips and salsa were tasty but the taco meat was lacking in that crispy exterior that I like in a taco. Plus the sauce they put on was lacking in flavor(I ordered the medium sauce). The hot sauce I asked for later tasted like Chinese hot sauce(tasty) but didn’t match the Mexican food. The tacos also were single tortilla — so it was lighter than other places. The meat also had grilled onions — we prefer raw onions in our tacos. The service was fast

Cash only taco joint. They’re quite nice actually. Their ENGLISH was actually pretty good too and I can’t say the same for a lot of taco joints. I tried three tacos: chicken, pork and beef. I couldn’t really taste the different amongst the three but I thought the flavors were decent. I would eat again. The tacos aren’t anything special but they weren’t bad. The horchata was good and tasted like liquid cinnamon crunch.

Wish I could give zero stars. Bring a food truck to a 2 hour event and run out of food. I’ll make a point of taking my business elsewhere. And sharing the shit experience of waiting 30 min in line to get told youve run out when I’m next in line. Terrible.

I live right near Gemelos, and love the homemade tortillas. Delicious. The various meats are also pretty good — nice flavor, fresh ingredients. Great price. We also hired the Gemelos taco truck for our wedding, as an optional pre-dinner snack. We anticipated 150 guests to partake, but more than 300 people showed up to the taco truck and Carlos & team were completely overwhelmed. Lines were long and they ran out of food — no fault of their own. Despite all that — the food that was served was delicious. Carlos gets an A+ for effort and a ton of gratitude for going above and beyond what was expected. I highly recommend Gemelos for catered events.

Excellent tacos/burritos… their Lengua, Al Pastor, and Chorizo are definitely worth trying. Prices are not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for in this case… quality meats and hand-made tortillas. I found their taqueria when I drove by it after moving into Redwood City. Impressed with their tacos, my wife and I hired them to cater for our wedding to provide a snack for guests between ceremony and reception. We grossly underestimated the number of people who would attend the ceremony but the owner, Carlos, was able to accommodate. He did more than my wife and I asked for and we are grateful for it. All our guests kept complimenting their tacos and asking where they were located.

Stopped by for a quick bite at this newer storefront restaurant to the original Gemelos on Middlefield. It’s a clean and convenient storefront with plentiful seating, a nice parking area, and located just off El Camino. Service was super friendly and I ordered a sampling of tacos and also ordered a cup of savory broth(tip from Kim N’s review). Tacos — $ 1.50 each for the more specialty meats and served on a small paper plate. Everything is cooked to order and tastes both natural and authentic. My chorizo taco was greasy and flavorful and the tripitas taco was as chewy, meaty and tasty as you would expect tripe to be. Savory Soup Broth — $ 2 for a large cup. Not on the menu but offered as a great companion to the tacos, this spicy and savory broth is like a consommé made from all the meat products that they cook here. It has plentiful pepper, onions, cilantro and is was just so great to drink. The real highlight for me. Overall, you can’t complain or fault a place that serves cheap food quick and deliciously. Service is friendly and there’s plentiful areas to both park and to sit. That’s a standout in this city known for their numerous tacquerias and a win in my book. I’ll have to be on the lookout for that savory broth at other tacqueries but for me, that puts this place over the top. Tacos Los Gemelos is cash only.

Most of the reviews have it right. Good food for a great price and the staff was really nice. I’d recommend the chorizo tacos, they were a little greasy but they were still really good. Make sure you order a half dozen of them if you’re hungry though. Bring cash, I don’t think they take cards.

If you stick to the tacos de chorizo and the sopes de chorizo, you can’t go wrong at Tacos Los Gemelos. My friends and I went to Tacos Los Gemelos around 9:30pm last Saturday(right before they closed at 10pm). We wanted to grab a bite to eat after we had spent the entire afternoon/early evening at the San Mateo County Fair. Our two friends that we were with suggested we go here to grab some late-night eats. My wife and I ordered a few different types of tacos(chorizo, al pastor, barbacoa, and chicken), as well as the tostada de ceviche. The chorizo tacos are $ 1.45 each while the rest of them were $ 1.25 each. The chorizo tacos are a specialty item there at Tacos Los Gemelos. My other friend ordered the Sopes de chorizo($ 2.85 I think). We were super impressed with the tacos de chorizo(I would rate them a 5⁄5), even though they were super greasy. Great taste and amazing flavors! The other tacos weren’t as flavorful(rate them between a 2⁄5 and a 3⁄5), and the meat — chicken and al pastor — were a little dry, so I would say stick with the chorizo tacos. The tostada de ceviche(~$ 3.00) was just ok too — I’d rate it a 2⁄5. We wished the ceviche was way more sour with much more of a lime-y taste. But it’s ok — we can get better ceviche elsewhere. The other pleasant surprise were the Sopes de Chorizo… AMAZING flavor! I’d rate these a 5⁄5 just like the chorizo tacos that I mentioned earlier I had never had Sopes before and my friend made me try it. Pretty awesome! And my friend is from Mexico originally, and she endorsed this dish. All in all, decent late night eats. Surprised that it was only open until 10pm on a Saturday night, but that’s ok. Also, this place is cash only, so make sure to bring some $$ with you. They have an ATM in there if you forget. Will probably be back to visit again if I am ever back in the Redwood City area. Remember — chorizo tacos and sopes de chorizo!
