Academy of American Ballet

I LOVE this school, my teenager daughter has been taking dance classes here for 2 years, the teachers are excellent and it is a nurturing and loving environment. Don’t get me wrong, they make the girls work hard to perfect their craft but in a way that is fun and enjoyable. My daughter has got into shape and has made great friends in the process.
The school has moved into a beautiful facility with more studios, fantastic flooring and mirrors — really professional and very exciting. Parking is still a bit of an issue but this school is worth the slight inconvenience.

These guys are great. beautiful, recently finished facilities and the teachers are very caring, professional and patient. My 3 year old really loves and I we highly recommend it for kids of all ages.

I love AAB! I take classes there and so do my children. Julia really makes ballet accessible to EVERYONE and EVERY BODY. I have utmost respect for the philosophy of the school.
Children’s:
My preschooler takes preballet with teacher Tanya. Not only in Tanya a skilled dance educator, she also holds advanced degrees in child development. So the classes are designed not only to introduce a child to the fun and beauty of dance, but are also are developmentally appropriate.
My older daughter took ballet classes from Basic 3 through Intermediate 2 before she needed to stop dancing due to an unrelated injury. This included the transition to pointe work. First, the curriculum is based in anatomically sound principles that stress natural body alignment. There is no forced turn out and the girls are taught body awareness so they can understand where the movement comes from and respond to corrections within themselves. All body types are welcomed and encouraged to dance. Pilates is introduced early to strengthen core muscles and help with body awareness. There are many extra classes and groups the girls can join as they move into middle and high school so it keeps them in studio rather than bored at home. The teachers understand the rigors of modern teenage life though and schoolwork always comes first.
Adult:
I have been taking adult ballet classes there for nearly 6 years. The classes are truly a learning experience rather than the typical Open classes at other studios. The instructors give corrections and work with you to improve. Adults are given the option to perform but not required. You can wear what you want, and the overall vibe of the studio is friendly, supportive and inviting. You can also drop in for classes anytime.
AAB is really a ballet school done right. Respect for yourself and others is underlying theme and it comes out in everything they do.
