It tends to get a bit busy, but I’ve always been able to find a table. GREAT selection of beer and the staff are pretty cool. It’s a go to.

Great service, the bartender gave me lots of samples so I could find a beer I liked.(it was the knickleback) The salad was good, pizza was good as well. Great place to stop after hiking all day.

Great beer selection obviously! Love the pizzas selections, great crust and unique toppings. Can’t wait to try the Jalapeño Popper pizza next time. I don’t the you can beat the quality for the price either, cool atmosphere and great service.

Normally I would give this place a high rating, with the exception of today. I and my family love to eat and drink at the independent ale house and have never had a problem bringing my 16 year old niece along, until today. I wanted to take my niece out for pizza and the red haired waitress asked us to leave because my 16 year old was not 21. I tried to explain to the waitress that I, being her aunt was currently her legal guardian(not that’s any of her business) and she still asked us to leave. I tried to assure her that we were only trying to have lunch with water and she continued to say that we could not stay because she was not 21. Very disappointed.

The pizza is awesome! I love the crust and the topping options I have to choose from. I also enjoy the(seems like a hundred) choices of brew to choose from. I’m a pale ale kind of guy and they always have something new and fresh to try.

Wide selection of beers. Pizza is good, not great. Reminds me of the pizza found at the new breed of fast casual pizza restaurants. Service was excellent. I’d go back for the beer, but not for dinner.

This place was recommended to us by our Enterprise Rental Car guy. Thanks, guy! As soon as we walked in I could see this place was awesome. We headed downstairs to the smaller bar and grabbed two beers– recommended by our bartender. DELICIOUS. Ended up having a few more and made friends with the people next to us. We tried the Deschutes Freshly Squeezed IPA, the Miner Mango Cream Ale, Crow Peak Eleventh Hour IPA, amongst others. Pizza was delicious. We had bacon and jalapeño. They’re small but were perfect to share. If you’re in town for Mount Rushmore(or really anything) and you love beer, this is the place for you.

We headed right from the RPD airport for lunch at Independent Ale House. They’d just opened for the day, so we were their first customers. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the beer offerings, and we settled in for a great lunch with a couple of brews(Green Flash Jibe for me and the Alaskan Amber for the spouse) and an heirloom tomato pizza. The tomatoes came from the owner/chef’s garden, and they were super-fresh and flavorful. They have LOTS of local taps, as well as a big selection of bottles and cans. Impressive, and a great welcome to the Black Hills area.

Great beer! Sizable selection. Great pizza. We did a veggie and a tomato heirloom. They were great — we couldn’t stop eating! The Odell lemon was a hit with everyone. It’s first come, first serve. We had to stand around for about 15 minutes before a table opened up. They said it’s always pretty crowded.

Get the heirloom pizza! It’s the best. I love the bartenders. I love the million beer choices! I wish they us more food choices.

Great pizza! Crispy and yummy. Oddly few appetizers. Sitting is tight if you have a group larger than 4, but we made it work. Basement has a definite college/frat house feel. If you are in Rapid City looking for pizza and beer, this is the place to go!

This is our go to place when we are in the Hills. We came here two nights in a row on our last trip two weeks ago. They have an amazing selection of beers. I had the Founders Oatmeal Stout from Michigan and I’m still thinking about it. I hope that I can find it here in the San Francisco Bay Area but I doubt it. If you are a fan of creamy stouts, this one is for you. We love the atmosphere, friendly service and overall cleanliness. They brought us the wrong pizza one night and the wrong salad the second night but we loved the wrong pizza so much that we kept our mouths shut. The server quickly remedied the wrong salad by bringing us the one we did order and left the wrong salad for us as well. As far as the food goes, we absolutely love it and cannot get enough. The thin crust pizzas come in one size and they are delicious and loaded with quality ingredients. Our favorite pizzas include the aforementioned, Lucky Luciano(Tomato Sauce, Cheese Blend, Sun-Dried Tomatoes, Crumbled Gorgonzola, Chicken & Diced Kalamata Olives), Spicy Chicken(Spicy BBQ Sauce, Chicken, Red Onion, Smoked Gouda & Cheese Blend with Fresh Cilantro) and Five O(BBQ Sauce, Cheese Blend, Crumbled Bacon, Fresh Pineapple & Fresh Jalapeño). Their salads are super fresh and lightly dressed. We tried the Caesar and the Mediterranean and both were very satisfying. You cannot go wrong with this place and it’s great value for what you get. Thanks Independent Ale House. You are always a highlight of our trip to the Hills.

This was my first stop after leaving the Rapid City Airport. It was a pleasant find with a great beer selection, good food and very nice staff. While we were there some musicians started playing outside. I’m not sure if they were customers or a regular thing, but it was enjoyable. If I find myself in Rapid City again, I will be sure to stop by here for some food and beer.

This place was a great treat after a long day of sight seeing! We were a little confused when we first walked in as it is seat yourself seating. If the seating is full upstairs, there is more seating downstairs as well as seating outside. First of all, our waitress was probably the best waitress i’ve ever had! I wish i would’ve gotten her name. She was very knowledgeable about the food menu, but more so about their beer selections. She really knew what she was talking about and gave great suggestions and let us taste as many beers as we wanted before making our decision. Now for the pizza… We had a group of 4 adults and 1 child. We ordered 4 pizzas and ended up only talking home about 4 pieces. They are small rectangle pizzas cut into squares. We ordered the Spicy Chicken, The Hasselhoff, The 3 Little Pigs, and the Five-O. They were all delicious! Very good flavor and plenty of toppings!

We were looking for a nice pizza place that had a great beer selection, The Independent Ale House fit the bill. The beer selection was fabulous and not all the beers were listed on the board. The waitress was very knowledgeable about the beer selection and made great recommendations. I tried several of the pizzas and they were all amazing. I highly recommend this place. The service was above average with the waitress we had. Fabulous beer selection.

Great spot in a cute town! We came here per the positive Unilocal reviews and were not disappointed. Huge selection of local and imported beers can satisfy all types of drinkers. There are drafts, bottles, and even six packs and growlers to go! We got the Mediterranean salad which was delicious and light and split the three pigs and veggie pizza which was the perfect amount of food for three people. There was ample outdoor seating which facilitates some great people watching and served as a nice respite from the busy interior. Our waitress was friendly, helpful, and efficient. Definitely worth the stop on your way to or from Mount Rushmore!

Get your pizza here! Its crispy, thin, and exceptional, the sauce is rich in tomato and basil and the cheese is so thick and stringy. We loved every bit of it. I’m a big porter and stout guy and they have one of the largest selections on tap & in bottles. Any beer that you like: sour batch, IPAs, lagers, ales, Ciders, etc. They have everything! We got the ceaser salad, 3 pigs pizza, and had the Breckenridge Vanilla Porter, Deschuttes Cutthroat Porter, Shiner Bock, and Guinness. Excellent. We’re definitely coming back.
