The Westin Mission Hills Pete Dye Resort Course

Great course for the recreational golfer, as well as for a couple’s getaway.
Don’t expect to be pampered at this resort.
We arrived early to have quick bite for breakfast (and to beat the June heat) and hit a few warm up balls. The staff sent us to the pool snack bar, which to our dismay wouldn’t open until after our tee time (I promise, I rarely complain, folks). We did figure out where to get a breakfast burrito, ordered, and ate on the course (life could be worse, right?).
The group ahead of us was very fast. We found out later they were regulars… and low handicappers… great group to follow if you want to beat the heat.
To make this very short review even longer, twice the marshal told us «You need to catch up to the group ahead of you».
Ladies and gentlemen, we were two holes ahead of the group behind us, and we finished in four hours.
I’m a single-​digit handicap, and understand the financial reason for fast play.
IMO, this is really a tactic to get the «out of towners» (who are nuts, I agree, to insist to golf in 100+ weather) to get the hell out of here.
To summarize this brief review, if you’re looking for a true, resort experience, this place may be perfect during the winter, when rates are a few hundred a night plus golf… I’m speaking to the more well-​healed here.
For those of us who simply want to play world-​class golfcourses, let’s prepare for and endure the heat. Just avoid this place when the weather heats up.
BTW, we were treated like royalty the next day at the Hyatt Indian Wells Golf Resort.

From the first visit we have never been as well taken care of as we have been at Mission Hills. Their service is consistently courteous and accommodating. As a female golfer, I find that a rare combination! I believe it all starts with the Director of Golf Jon Vesper. Nothing is overlooked and Jon is wonderfully personable. This course has just enough challenges to keep you thinking and is always in pristine condition! We will be coming back for years to come!

Wow mid January there was no one on the course! The course is very pretty with mountain views and wide fairways. It is a well maintained but not a «luxury» course; the price reflects that. It is a great value. I did not find it particularly challenging.
The staff is really good. The clubhouse café closes early, but the resort has a fantastic market with almost anything you could want. They shuttle you from parking to starter. It’s kind of fun fancy service; who gives a crap you cant drive your cart in the parking lot, lol.
Would definitely play here again.

This is about a 4.5 star affair.
Mountain view from the range. Today we golf with Rob and Tracy from Vancouver, Canada. On both of our golf days they have us begin on the back nine and finish on the front nine. Re-​VER-​sla!
The homes are often fancier on this course versus yesterday’s course (Gary Player). This is a pretty and enjoyable course but for some reason I had more fun on Pete Dye’s «The Dunes» course in La Quinta. These greens aren’t quite as challenging as «The Dunes» either but there are some pretty water holes here.
Tracy has an unbelievable knack for being only remotely near the green yet digging out a sweet high iron shot and placing her ball within 10 feet or so of the hole. Anyone whose played a Pete Dye course knows that the rough areas around the green aren’t easy to get out of.

A very challenging golf course. It appears easy but so many rolling hills and valleys!
Today it was very slow. The foursome ahead of us were very laid back. No sense of urgency. We waited at every hole to tee off.
We received a voucher upon completion for $ 4.15 towards buffalo wings or flatbread as a reward for completing 18 holes within 4 hours, 15 minutes.
And no golf carts allowed in the parking lot!

Course was in great shape for august and can’t beat the price ($ 41 and get $ 10 off merchandise in clubhouse)… Only complaint is that coolers have no bottled water, and players aren’t given towels. A few holes have water coolers (only 2 on back nine) but its not nearly enough. Come on guys — its 100+ out there!

I have to say that this is one of the best manicured courses I’ve been to in this area, then again I’ve only been at 3 course out this way. I was very pleased with the driving range as well. Nothing makes me smile more than hearing «free» at a any golf course. Bag drop and shuttle is a nice touch along with the starter giving this new guy a brief description of course. Cold water at 3 different holes, also free. Golf cart have power so the go a bit faster than I’m used to, nice. Overall I do recommend coming out to this course, just be sure to get an early tee time to beat the heat. I’ll be back as well.

PET FRIENDLY… out of all the hotels in the Palm Spring area, this place has NO CHARGE for pets.
The property is huge and contains many many walk ways that the dogs will appreciate.
The service is top notch. Everyone from the registration desk to the servers were very pleasant and accommodating.

I am not a golf connoisseur. I do not golf.
But I can drive the cart for my dad and I can be the club b*tch :-p
The Peter Dye course at the Westin is lovely. The staff was friendly and helpful, getting my dad his rented clubs and golf accoutrements.
On this particular day, they didn’t do so hot of a job spacing out the tee times and our group got backed up several times.
But dad enjoyed it!

I don’t really remember this course, so I don’t think it can have more than three stars.

I used some Starwood Point (I’m FINALLY platinum with all this gosh darn traveling — wooot!) to see my sister who was in town from Dallas to see the tennis tourney. I can’t believe I got a room because of the weekend and it was the start of spring break 2013.
The resort is really nice. The pools are super nice. The staff great. They don’t charge for parking, which is almost unheard of these days. The restaurants are nice.
I had a weird issue at the pool in ordering breakfast — but it was their first weekend with the new menu so I cut them some slack. They just kept bringing me a cold burrito and not what I ordered. Long story short — they were grabbing it from a room where there was a golf tourney, so they had been sitting vs ordering a new one from the kitchen. They made it up by giving me a free drink.
The only thing I find odd — they need a bar at the adult pool. I think you can order room service, but it would be nice to have cocktails handy.
The rooms are a tad dated — but at a resort like this, do you really want to spend time in the room? Also love the Westin order up the New Balance work out gear — didn’t have time cause I was there only one night. But very cool!

This is a beautiful golf course. The fairways are well maintained and the greens are smooth and slick. The staff was very courteous and friendly. Everybody we encountered was helpful and friendly. The pace of play was very good. The pro shop and dining area was a disappointment but overall it was an excellent day of golf. There are many great golf courses in this area but I plan to play here again.

This is a nice, well-​maintained course. When I played it in late December, it was in great shape. The problem is that it competes with so many others in the area at about the same price point.
What I like:
1. An open course that’s still challenging for different skill levels.
2. The greens roll fairly true, without much break and without confounding unforeseen gyrations. No one has to constantly remind you that «It always breaks toward Indio», which I’ve heard on other local tracks.
3. The Marshall pays attention to the pace of play.
What I don’t like:
1. The location. It’s remote, and not on the same property as the Westin resort and Pete Dye course.
2. Because of its location, it’s very exposed to wind, and can get pretty gusty. They’ve done what they can to give you some protection, but other courses closer to the mountains fair better during changes in the weather pattern (which are frequent).
2. No real clubhouse, just a beat up shack-​style hut. It may be part of Westin, but there’s nothing Westiny about the lackluster pro shop, food area and bar.
3. The lunch counter is slow/​confused. Nothing pre-​prepared, and no call box and menu to call in from the 9^th tee. It took 10 – 15 minutes to get some sandwiches to go, and the Marshall got pissed at us because we fell behind.
So while it’s a nice place to play, it’s not a place to linger after your game with your buddies and a beer, which can rob people of a complete golf experience.

4 ½ stars. I made a 7:26 am tee time on New years eve. The weather was perfect crystal clear and no wind and I was paired up with another two players. The course is Troon managed who operates some the the best courses in the world.
The Pete Dye designed course is located at the Westin resort and vacation club timeshare and was over seeded in September which made the course immaculate. Fairways were plush and deep green, sand traps in top condition and the greens rolled like I was putting on glass. The mountains make putting here deceiving and challenging
The service throughout the course was friendly and professional as expected with any Troon managed golf facility.
Finished the round in less than 4 hours since we were the first group off the tees and the current rack rate is $ 125.00 per player. I would definitely return here again.

The course is consistently wonderful. The management is consistently not. I have to remember not to expect to use a coupon and have it accepted without issue. They have complicated language on their coupons that they have to explain once you get there. That said, their coupons become near worthless.
Sprinklers come on pretty early. We got drenched at seven at night even though it is light for over another hour.
Even though it is my favorite course to play, I won’t be going back.

Great course. Great condition. Nice layout. Not the best club house but the starter and the pro shop was really cool.
Some holes lacked attention, while others where super pampered. Would be nice if all were equal in care and condition. Other then that can’t, complain.
Great green reading tip from the pro shop guy that helped a bunch.

Nice course, good shape, really easy course.

I am a member at a couple of country clubs in town and have played many, many courses in Palm Springs and this course is one of the most enjoyable! I was pleasantly surprised at the layout and how just plain fun it is to play. I’m a high handicapper but the course was «just right» — not too hard, not too easy. I’m always leery when playing a course by a well-​known designer since they tend to be «over the top» and too difficult for average golfers — read the reviews for something like the Nicklaus Tournament course at PGA West, that course is just brutal. Hats off to Gary Player for creating a course that is enjoyable for the average golfer!
As someone else already pointed out, the course is not immediately adjacent to the Westin so you shouldn’t expect a glamorous clubhouse. But if you just want to spend a nice morning playing on a regulation course without feeling like you got beat up, then this is an excellent choice.

I am not much of a golfer when it comes to a scorecard. But I have been on some nice courses in my day and this course is sweet. I got to play for $ 55 with my Rancho Mirage Golf Card and my guest played for $ 80.
The staff meets you in the parking lot and shuttles you over to the starter. They already have you on a list with your tee time which allows them to have your cart ready as well.
You are provided balls to hit if you are early enough and then you are guided to the first tee box where you are given more instructions about pin placement and so on. The course was immaculate with the greens playing a little slow early and a little faster later on. We tee’d off at 7:42 and it was a little windy but the day was enjoyable.
The drink cart ran into us twice and I ordered a breakfast burrito that came with a muffin. I also had a powerade and the bill was $ 11. Not too bad in price and the burrito and muffin hit the spot.
We enjoyed the picturesque fairways and we hit hit some stray shots but I’d love to come back every month to take advantage of such a nice place. To top it off the staff cleans your irons and jumps on the back of your cart to take you back to your car, They even unload the bag into your car.
I have never enjoyed what Pete Dye offers for $ 55. I can’t wait to check out Gary Player to mix it up.

Nice course but it is crystal clear that corporate cut backs have hit this course. Typical Pete Dye with huge bunkers that suck a golf ball into their depths.
Here is the problem… they have cut way back on the maintenance. Grass bunkers need grass in them not weeds and dirt. Ok track but in danger of becoming a waste land.
Staff are polite, speed of play is excellent but course quality has dropped like a rock.
