History

Established in 1986.

Painters Plus started out unofficially in 1982. Two college students worked on older homes in Michigan during their summer break. After finishing college in 1986 they decided to combine their new degree with their painting experience. They started in Northville, Michigan with just the two of them. After one year they had grown to more than 20 employees. In 1989 they had almost 50 employees and people competing to buy them out. They sold the business in 1989. Steve McFarland always wanted to live in Northern California –so he moved to Folsom and started Painters Plus up again in early 1991. Since then Painters Plus has grown in the area and has painted 1000’s of houses and buildings. They have painted large H.O.A.‘s, Arco Arena, lot’s of work for the State and several counties. Painters Plus remains one of the area’s largest and most trusted painting companies.

Meet the Business Owner

Business Owner

Steve McFarland started painting for a historic village in Dearborn, Michigan — Greenfield Village to be exact. He learned from journeymen painters, how to properly restore and paint buildings. He worked on Henry Ford’s house as well as Thomas Edison’s laboratory. He then, took his knowledge of painting to local residence’s homes. He began painting houses and buildings during his summer breaks from Central Michigan University. Upon graduating, he and his longtime friend Dwayne March founded Painters Plus in 1986. They grew the business to one of the largest in the Detroit Area and then sold it in 1989. Steve moved himself and his family to Folsom California in 1990 and founded Painters Plus of Northern California in 1991. He has been painting houses and buildings in Northern California ever since! Steve enjoys golfing in his spare time and being with his family.
