Wild at Heart is a full service dog walking and pet-​sitting organization dedicated to keeping Portland pets happy and healthy. We have over twenty years professional experience and are fully insured. We strive for an ethic of compassion in everything we do!

History

Established in 2013.

Wild at Heart’s founder, Amanda, has been working in the animal welfare field for over ten years. She began her career at the age of eighteen working for the Connecticut Humane Society. From there she worked at various other animal rescues and shelters in multiple positions including animal care, adoption counseling, foster care coordinator, volunteer coordinator, and training and behavior. After moving to Portland in 2011, dog walking and pet-​sitting was an easy transition. Wild at Heart loves what they do and is excited to continue caring for Portland’s pets!

Amanda has been walking our dog, Finn, for about a year and we love her. Finn is always stoked to see her! It’s not just a daily walk around the neighborhood; they go on fun adventures to Forest Park on the regular. Amanda is dependable and trust worthy and I would recommend her to anyone.

My dog is a bit of a handful since she is a rescue pup with some obvious abuse in her history so she doesn’t always trust people, but she absolutely loves when Jessica and the fun walks they go on. I cannot say enough how much of a lifesaver it is to find someone both so flexible and reliable when it comes to having both an ever-​changing work schedule and an anxiety filled pup. I’ve never had a single issue with Wild at Heart and would highly recommend them to anyone who needs a little extra help with caring for their furry loved ones.

My energetic puppy has loved walking with Amanda and her dog pals every day. Amanda has been always been dependable, flexible, and patient. She has a great understanding of dog behavior that assures a fantastic group walk. The texts and pictures after walks are also fun to get! My dog also seemed to enjoy her weekends with Amanda while I was away — and poor Amanda for having to put up with my dog chasing her cats all weekend long!

When we relocated to Portland, we left behind a fab dog walker, one who knew our dog from the time he was rescued. We were worried we’d never find a dog walker as caring and wonderful as our former dog walker was. To our great delight, relief and JOY, along comes Amanda. She is patient and kind with our dog who has some issues resulting from being a rescue from a bad place. She gets him. He adores her, as do we. And he is getting better with his stressy behavior. We are already entrusting her to dog sit while we are away, that speaks volumes to our trust in her as we have never done this before. Amanda sends us image texts of our dog with the others during in his group walk, that is the BEST. We want our dog to stay socialized in his new home and area, so having Amanda help with this by walking him in a group is perfect. Amanda also takes time to talk to us after the walk if we are here to share how Max did. Her feedback is helpful and accurate. We HIGHLY recommend her as your go to girl. Oh, BTW, she always shows up, is flexible if we have to tweak (we do our best to give her as much notice as we can with changes), and she works with us as she can. We are delighted to have her walk and care for our dog and have confidence in her skills with dogs and the humans, too! That’s talent.

So, I got robbed by my house sitter. So horrible, it sent me spinning. I couldn’t function. I was just sick. Still am, actually. When Amanda found out, she went so far above an beyond, it is amazing. She went to the store for me because I couldn’t function. She brought me ginger ale and chocolate out of her own money. She spent time trying to comfort me, and help me in the awful quest to get this thief. When something like this happens it wrecks lives, but the silver lining is people like Amanda and Daniel, who works with her. Support these good, decent people. Spread the word about them to everyone you know.

Amanda is wonderful! I came to her in desperation. I had a week long trip planned and a recently adopted fearful (especially of strangers coming into his home) dog. She worked hard at being his friend, although it seemed pretty effortless, being how she’s fantastic with dogs. She would walk him a couple times a week before I left so he’d know Amanda meant great things… treats and walks! I went on my trip with a peace of mind about my fur babies, which is a rarity for me. Her knowledge and love of animals shows when she’s around them. I came home to a clean calm house. I wouldn’t have even known she was there, except for the fact my animals all seemed happy and well loved. I am so happy I discovered Amanda, and so are my pets.

I have a bit of a high strung dog that needed more attention, so I am very happy I found Amanda and her services. After a few weeks of her walking him, he has mellowed out a ton. She has a wealth of knowledge, patience, and understanding for animals. She also runs dogs, which mine is too old, but I still think that’s pretty awesome!
