TriMet 4 Portland/Gresham/St. Johns

Travel in North Portland is made exponentially more efficient as a result of Trimet’s number 4 bus. It goes through some highlights such as the Rose Quarter and the Mississippi District. At times, it can get rather crowded. However, the yellow line isn’t up to everything in North Portland, so this bus will come in handy often. Also, it goes to not just one, but two Portland Community College campuses, using downtown and Division to go to both Cascade and Southeast campuses alike. And it goes through a lot of trendy Southeast Portland neighborhoods along the way.
I first discovered the four when I was going to Southeast from my haircut. The downtown placement is a bit confusing since it goes in a odd shape when it’s near Lownsdale and Chapman Squares. Be careful not be confused by that.
Then, I have discovered the magic of this bus as I have gone to Cascade Campus. This is actually a more scenic ride sometimes than the 72 along Killingsworth and 82^nd Avenue. I can very easily go to a very wide range of places.
4 is a lucky number for TriMet.

I simply can’t share all of Kerri’s enthusiasm for my dear #4 bus. Its my bus and my people so I suppose I have to love it. But it can be a straight out nightmare. Try taking the bus on some weekdays when the hordes of elderly are carting their private baskets to go to the market or food bank or whatever. They take up the entire bus, don’t move their carts aside, don’t even make way for their fellow old people and are generally uninterested in working within the system. I wish there were more buses, more room, shorter rides. That is all

TriMet Line 4 is another one of those routes you see all over town. Makes you scratch your head and say «but didn’t I just see that in downtown Portland?» It runs all the way from Fessenden in St. Johns/​North Portland to Gresham. It’s particularly great because it runs like clockwork (really every 15 – 20 minutes). I use it the most of all my bus routes because it’s just two blocks from home (score) and has a lot of points where I can jump off and catch other buses if need be. It travels through some beautiful old neighborhoods where I see some great homes and get ideas of where I want to go and visit for a Saturday of window shopping. The drivers are amongst the most courteous and friendly I have met in the system and often greet riders by name and chat with them as they go; it almost feels like a neighborhood shuttle than a major player in city transportation. Good old #4, you’re my go-​to for reliability and a great experience going to and fro.
