Danielle is an awesome hair stylist. She took her time making sure I got what I wanted. I even got a nice head massage along with my shampoo! I’ll definitely be going back!

Mara was fantastic to see for eyebrows! Being new in town, I noticed the waxing sign in the window since I haven’t been able to find my kit to do them at home.
Very convenient location for me since it’s next to the Fine Arts Bldg (where my office is). Mara was very personable and is a Portland native-​and the owner. We had such a wonderful chat & I would recommend anyone to see her for brows.
I know how important it is to find someone good since screwed up eyebrows are The Worst! I’m super happy with mine… It was a lovely experience.

Great location and atmosphere, Mara is so friendly and outgoing and had some tea and wine readily available :) I saw Jesse who did a fantastic job! I was there for almost 6 hours getting my hair done and I can honestly say I enjoyed my time there and the ladies’ company. I plan on returning soon!

Mara was great! Scalp treatment and massage was well with it. Finally found an excellent stylist who loves what she does and does it well.

I was just in town for a few nights and needed a blowout fast. I called 15 minutes before I came in and they were able to take care of me. Michael did my hair and did such a great job! He was so nice too. He took the time to see what I wanted, had a real conversation with me, and gave me a nice little scalp massage as he washed my hair! Not to mention my hair looks fabulous. Even a woman sitting in the waiting area complimented me. I’ll definitely be going back when I’m in town again.

I am a new stylist here and I love it! Atmosphere is incredible. Mara is the owner and awesome. Dani & Gina are the other stylists and amazing at their craft.

Being new to town I needed to find a new stylist which was a big deal for me since I’ve been seeing the same one for 10 years. A friend of mine recommended Gina at the Stylab so I went for it.
It was very reassuring that Gina took the time to listen during my consult and didn’t make me feel rushed. I didn’t have a difficult cut and just a root touch up but she made me feel confident in the decisions we made for It. I found Gina to be very professional but also personable. Sometimes during an appointment, especially with a new stylist things can feel awkward with silence or too much nervous talk. Gina was the perfect balance.
I was more than satisfied with my cut and color. It turned out just how I wanted and I may even try something new next time I visit Gina. I’m glad I found a stylist right away that I can trust.

Had a great last minute haircut while I was in town for just 2 nights. Super friendly and knowledgable staff and a great cut. Highly recommended.

I found this salon ironically on the web because of Unilocal reviews and I was not disappointed. I saw Gina who was great and she did a wonderful job. After 2.5 weeks I realized the haircut is just not for me and going back to a short near pixie cut looks and feels best. I called the salon to inquire about a touch up. Not only was I very fortunate to have them see me so late since my original cut (at no charge), but she nailed it! Gina is confidant, quick, fun, and brilliant at listening to her customer and giving them what they want even if they are not quite clear what that is. Salon is comfortable and clean. I’ve never waited. Prices are reasonable. I will recommend and be back. I LOVE my short haircut!

Was so happy that Mara could fit me in on Friday afternoon. Going in I didn’t know what exactly I wanted, but Mara suggested a few things and I let her run with it. She did an absolutely beautiful Ombré. I love Mara and Stylab, in my opinion you get what you pay for, and with Mara and Stylab you are getting the best!!! Thanks for making my hair look great!!!

My friend and I booked last minute appointments with Gina and a male stylist (whose name escapes me as he is new to the salon). They were gracious enough to take us in last minute on a Friday evening which I truly appreciate as we needed some relaxation after a long day. We received good service during our hair conditioning treatments which included full blow outs. They even gave us a glass of a very delicious blueberry wine which nicely complimented the evening. I would not hesitate coming here again if I was in the area.

If you have curly hair like me and have had not so great experience with hair dressers and product; I can assure you you will have the best experience here. Mara knew exactly what I wanted and needed for my hair. Mara is the hair whisperer. I left feeling absolutely wonderful. I have been through so many products and couldn’t find a single one that didn’t make my hair frizz. I absolutely love their product line. It’s paraben free, sulfate free, they reduce, re-​use and recycle. Love love love this place.

I have gotten my hair done by more than one stylist at Stylab, and I have yet to be disappointed. I love the atmosphere, the knowledge, and comradarie of the staff, and always my end result! Walking back to my car is always done with my head held higher, I always feel beautiful

After my appointment the salon owner Mara contacted me and offered for me to come in and fix my hair free of charge. She spent the entire evening fixing it and did the perfect bayalage, I left so relieved! Mara is awesome and I will definitely go back. She truly cares about her salon and making sure every client leaves happy.

They NEVER answer the phone! If you need an appointment, try making it a few days ahead of time, as you will most likely be playing phone tag. Other than that, the haircuts are good and the staff is friendly.

I had a Groupon for this place and after looking at their website I was a little apprehensive. Not only did the price I paid for the Groupon look to be pretty much the same price you would pay regularly, but it looked to be a little more «Progressive», shall we say, than I normally would do. I feel like I usually go to places that are a little more «soccer mom» like.
All said and done, Gina did a great job on my hair. I don’t think I would pay extra for the massage/​hot towel wrap, but it was included in my Groupon.

I guess I disagree with the reviews everyone else seems to have. I went here after buying a groupon and was suppose to get a 10 minute wash, 10 minute scalp massage, and a about an hour hair cut. The whole process took 40 minutes. I hate getting my haircut and would have been happy it was done that quick, if I had liked the outcome. She was a bit distracted, because she had to bring her kid that day, which I didn’t mind, but it seemed like she was trying to hurry my appointment along.
I told her I wanted her to cut my color out leaving only my natural color and she looked at me like that wouldn’t be easy to do. I also wanted longer, bangs, that swooshed to one side. Before I even knew what was happening she was blow drying my hair and didn’t even check with me to see if it was even or if I liked it, like every other salon does. Then she was styling it some weird way, by curling it into ringlets and putting powder in my hair to give it more volume without even asking. I don’t like product in my hair like that because it just makes it feel sticky and doesn’t even really work, for me anyway.
I left feeling like not much was done to my hair. It was a little bit shorter, but not how I wanted it and really no bangs at all. And it was curly.
I’m glad I didn’t pay full price and wish I wouldn’t have left her a tip on the full price amount or at least wish I would have said something for her to correct it, but I just didn’t feel like she would have made it better.
Definitely won’t be back here.

I got a Groupon to use here, and although I DREAD getting my haircut, I will actually be back!
Walking in felt great — the hairstylists looked SO GOOD, not bland or with hair that makes me feel that I’m about to have something frumpy happen to my head.
My stylist was Gina, who was, for me, the perfect mix of conversational and concentrated. As someone who falls on the slightly more introverted end of the spectrum, sometimes the salon atmosphere can leave me exhausted at the end — but she was energizing and down to earth.
I asked for «pinup bangs» and offered about half a dozen completely unreasonable examples from my Pinterest board, from girls who have drastically different kinds of hair than me. I also asked for help cutting off my damaged ends from my previous at-​home ombres — but to save as much length as possible because I’m growing it out. Oh and I like «big hair,» can that happen? Last but not least, I had no idea what cut I actually wanted, but could she make it totally sexy and glam?
Yes. All of that, somehow, yes. She gave me the ULTIMATE bangs that have been complimented non-​stop by friends and strangers alike, look good carefully combed or a little messy, and don’t have to be ironed to make them happen! I’ve been spraying in some texturizer, but the cut is so good they «curl» naturally. She even called another (ridiculously cute, ridiculously talented) girl over to consult, and redesigned halfway through when I asked for a curve in the forehead instead of the classic pinup point.
My ends are so much better, and although I still have damage, I can barely notice length came off. The cut is awesome. It looks wavy and incredible after just throwing it up in a bun for a few hours. She took my layers to a new place. My hair… its got… body! People have been complimenting my color again (now that they can see it!). It’s the low-​maintenance cut I need, with all the options for turning it into elaborate sexpot hair when I have the chance.
I didn’t think I would go back after my Groupon, honestly, I don’t have much of a budget for this kind of spending. It’ll be worth it! Gina says she does free bang trims for her clients, and I already feel so attached to this look, I know I’ll need that (usually I need a few weeks to talk myself into liking a hair cut). As for the rest of my hair, I feel confident I could grow my hair out with her help. She also didn’t give me any lectures for my at-​home coloring or at-​home cutting (a part of salon visits I always dread), and we even discussed how to go about lightening my hennaed hair (something most stylists will not even consider).
Their online scheduling also makes it nearly pain-​free to match a busy schedule with their openings, and they have options for specials and groupon scheduling, too. I don’t think this could’ve been any better.

Just happened to walk by this place while strolling downtown Portland and my friend needed a haircut badly. A really cute stylist walked up and said hi and was very accommodating. Super friendly and as I waited for my friend to get a haircut I was acknowledged several times to see if I needed help – great customer service indeed! As it turned out my friend had a great haircut as well. Thanks Stylab!
