St Johns Veterinary Clinic

So incredibly pleased with the care we received during our recent visit. We chose to switch veterinarians due to a terrible experience we had with another clinic in the area (I bet you can guess who!) and I think we absolutely made the right decision.
Dr. Davis took the time out of his day to call and thoroughly explain the results of our little Franky’s exam. He did not seem rushed during our conversation and answered all of my questions clearly.
I was sent home with meds and directions to call them back in a few days to report his progress. Instead, I received a phone call from them checking up on my puppy. They are really on top of it here!
Also, when I went to pick up my dog there was a situation going on where a guy had found a dog that was full of fleas and had clearly been neglected. The vet techs took him right in and cleaned him up and gave him a flea treatment. This is when I knew that I made the right choice. They truly care about all animals.
I am relieved to have found a vet who I can feel at ease leaving my dogs with.

My cats have been going here for about 7 years. I love this vet. I moved out of St. Johns two years ago and I still drive up from Beaverton to take my cats here. I wish it was closer for me now but overall I am happy with the service. I feel like I never see the same faces working at this clinic though.

One thing I want to add to my review is how much I appreciate that Dr. Davis takes the time to talk with me over the phone when I have concerns about our pups. I don’t know of very many vets these days that would take the time to do that so we’re thrilled to have found a vet clinic with a personal touch. Something missing in the business world these days.
We decided to use St. John’s Vet Clinic after realizing that every time we walked through the doors of our former vet (no names but begins with V) they seemed to try to talk us into, or insist on us paying for an added service. It got to the point that we couldn’t get out of there without a charge for under $ 90. We understand that Vetenarian clinics have to be paid for their service, that we have no problem with but when they want to do a bioposy and charge over $ 200 for it, that to me is outrageous! St. John’s took a sample from a lump in my dog, examined 7 puppies she had had, examined her, gave her medicine plus flea tablets, all for the price of just under $ 350. Pet expenses are beginning to be a bit pricey so we are happy to have found a Vet clinic that shows concern for our animals and isn’t suggesting this or that so they can make an extra buck. Our pets are our family and we are thrilled to find a clinic that has your pet at heart. Another thing they do is keep water in a bowl for people walking their pets on the outside with a sign offering the water! How considerate is that! Their coffee is delish too! We’re so happy to have found them. Only wish they had a clinic in the southeastern portion of Portland so we wouldn’t have to go so far… however, the trip is worth it!

Only had 1 experience here and it was not a good one.
Went in to buy some Flea Medicine for my 2 Cats. I simply wanted to get one package of Frontline in a size for a small Dog (Approximately equal to two doses for a Cat). The cost, roughly $ 18.00.
When these people heard how I wanted to use it, they and I mean all of the workers tried to lay a line of crap on me about how they were not allowed to substitute one package for two!
What they were really saying was that the extra $ 18.00 was more important. Every Vet I’ve ever been to has been absolutely fine with my way of trying to be practical and saving a little money.
These people will not see me in their business again.

Disclaimer: I have not yet taken my animals for medical issues to St. John’s Veterinary Clinic, but I will be doing so from here on out. They just rescued my lost 22 year old cat! A wonderful 12 year old boy who found him on the street brought him to them. They kept him overnight, fed him and gave him lots of love, and then an off duty staff member hunted me down and found my Craigslist add the following day and called the office on her day off with the information! They did all this out of their generous hearts and caring for the animal. They now have my business. And my undying gratitude.

I only experienced this place once, a pretty long time ago during an emergency. But due to my positive experience and as I’m getting around to my review writing, I thought this was necessary. One day my dog had the nerve to ingest an entire pack of gum. Upon realizing, I ran him here on a whim since it was the nearest vet to me.
Without having been here before or even having an appointment or giving them a call, they welcomed me and graciously accommodated my emergency visit. I was a bit of a wreck at that point and anxious to the point where I thought my dog was going to die. Luckily they were super understanding, did what they needed to do, and we were on our way within 20 minutes! They definitely turned a terrible situation into a positive experience and I don’t know what I would have done otherwise.

Loved this place. The front office staff were friendly and caring, and Dr. Blankevort did an amazing surgery on my little cat; the scar has healed beautifully. He was up and about right afterward and appeared happy and pain free. The vet called me immediately after the surgery to tell me how he was doing. I can’t thank them enough. This is my new vet now.

I just took my dog here for the first time. He had a cut under his eye and they fit me into the schedule without an appointment. The doctor and staff were very friendly and helpful and the price was reasonable. I will definitely be back.

I’ve taken my cats here for shots/​exams/​nail trims for over two years now. Everyone on staff is attentive, friendly. and professional. They always fawn over my cats a little, which both my cats and I enjoy, and my kitties are very happy and healthy. My cats don ‘t even mind going to the vet very much, because they are handled with care and affection by the vets and vet techs.

Do not take your animal here for any work involving anesthesia, especially if they are an elderly animal. My dog was in the clinic to have his teeth cleaned. He is 14 years old and they did not tell me what might happen when a dog that age is coming out of the effects of the anesthesia. When I went to pick him up at 5pm, the only thing the doctor told me was that «some dogs respond differently to it». She did not tell me that I may have to take him to Dove Lewis for emergency treatment. When I saw him, he did not recognize me and it took 3 of us to get him in the car. They had to support his hind legs with a towel just to get him to my car. Then when I got home, for the next one and a half hours, my dog was whimpering, not able to stand on his hind legs and was so out of it that he dragged his hind legs around the house until he was so exhausted that he collasped. Then he would wake up, start crying and drag himself all over the house again and again. After an hour and a half, I called Dove Lewis and they said to bring him in, that he was probably having an adverse reaction to the anesthesia. I took him in and they had to sedate him so he would settle down and rest. I had to leave him there overnight and when I picked him up the next day at 10:30am, he still did not have full use of his hind legs but was doing better. It was Saturday afternoon when he finally was able to stand up on all four legs and the teeth cleaning was on a Thursday. St Johns Vet Clinic should have kept him overnight but apparently they do not have the staff to do that, another thing I did not know about when I decided to have them do the work. I have nothing against the doctors, they simply did not tell me what to expect and did not follow through on the care of my dog like they should have.

I had went to this vet because my dog had broken her dew claw nail and was bleeding and in pain. They were open on a Saturday and were willing to see me. The front staff was really nice. When it came time to see my dog, they took her back without me, which made me a little nervous, but I trusted they knew what they were doing.
When they brought my dog back, the vet talked with me for a bit. He said he took care of the nail and clipped all her nails while they were at it. Then he started talking to me about what preventative meds I was using, etc. I said I had ran out of the frontline a couple months ago. The vet started talking about the horrors that could occur if I didn’t start using it again, including how my baby could get sick if she swallowed a flea (sensational much!!!).
I shook off the dooms day warnings and when I checked out I paid my bill and left. I noticed they charged me $ 24 for the nail clipping. I’d have no problem paying for a nail trim if I had asked for one or consented to one, but I was annoyed that they had charged me for it without asking me. I felt like I left a car repair shop that tried to swindle me out of money and tell me my engine needed repairing.
I’ve lived in several places, so had experiences with many different vets and this was the worst experience so far. A welcoming smile at the front desk doesn’t make up for shady service. Needless to say, I won’t be back.

After a couple of disappointing trips to my previous vet, I went to St. John’s Vet and I was blown away! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, the exam rooms were super comfy and they even gave my kiddos toys when we left. And, most importantly, they were able to give me some solutions for the issues I was having with my cat. Highly recommend!

We have two dogs, both Schnoodles. The St. Johns Veterinary Clinic was recommended to us by a friend so when we got our dogs we started taking them there. There are other vets closer to us, but we’re glad we made the choice to go to St. Johns. The staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The vets that work there, and through the course of taking our dogs there we have seen all three of them, know what they are doing and are gentle and caring when working with our pups. We have been very very happy with St. Johns.

I first hear of St Johns Veterinary Clinic when I was a nanny for a couple who lived in North Portland. They spoke highly of the St Johns Veterinary Clinic for there two dogs. So when I got a dog later that year I all ready knew a good reliable place to take my dog. The vets are great. Because Winston (dog) was a puppy he got all his shots and neutering done there. They even gave him a puppy welcome bag. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable.
