Companion Pet Clinic St. Johns

They treated my cat with the wrong meds and didn’t bother to do blood work. Now she is in worse condition. Terrible.

We have always had a great experience with Dr. Sonny Randhawa at Companion Pet Clinic. We had to bring our dog there yesterday after he tore his claw off at daycare. Dr. Sonny spent 30 minutes with our dog not only fixing his claw but explaining in detail what happened and how he would treat it but also answering the multiple questions I had about my dog’s general health (I had a bunch because I’m kind of obsessed with my pup). I felt as though he really cared about Noodles (our dog) and my boyfriend and I spent the entire walk home from the vet discussing how much we liked Dr. Sonny. I would recommend him to anyone. Seriously, I love that guy, heh.

Unnecessary tests, «intentional» misdiagnosis, add ons with no approval. Vet said my dogs umbilical hernia might be a TUMOR?! Mentioned other possible issues I know were wrong. AVOID

Still going to see this vet — it’s been 18 years already! Staff is awesome and the doctor is great. Happens to also have the best rates in town, which doesn’t hurt.

Have been taking my 2 cats to Companion Pet Clinic St. Johns since 2002. Never a complaint! Recommend.

Have been going here for years and years. With every visit, I find the doctor and staff to be highly knowledgable, friendly and treat my animals as their own. Sonny, the owner and main vet is loved by my kitties. They are very calm and let him do what he needs to. He has a very respectful and gentle attitude towards them. His assistants who administer shots and other procedural things are in the same vein. I find it to be a very good set up for Sonny to come in after the intake process completed by his assistant, go through whatever the issue may be and then exit allowing himself to go to his next patient while his vet tech administers what’s needed. This allows the tech who may be working their way up to vet, to have a more vet type role and Sonny to help foster them while serving efficiently more patients.

Sonny had to stick a needle in my kitties snout next to his nostrils to open up a puss pocket, draw out some fluid and prescribe the correct course of treatment based on what he found in the fluid. In and out took one hour. He drained the infection and had his tech administer a shot.

Wonderful clinic. Reasonable prices and full service… they do dental too! Doctors are willing to explain options and answer questions. I really appreciate their service.

Outstanding pet care and the staff is nice and friendly. The vets are smart and compassionate. They’ve been taking care of our cats for years and even helped one of our hens survive a raccoon attack this winter. Convenient location too, near the St Johns Bridge.

I had gone to Sonny for over 20 years. My dog got sick over the weekend and we ended up getting Xrays at the emergency vet clinic in Rock Creek. We took the films and our beloved family pet to Sonny early Monday morning he assured us our dog would survive the surgery to unblock his intestine and would have a good outcome for a cost of $ 1500.00 as he was only 8 years old and in good health. A few hours later he calls me at work and said they had an unexpected result our Newfoundland had passed away. He said our dog had survived the surgery but passed away in recovery. Instead of offering sympathy he got defensive saying something else was wrong with the dog. NOT TRUE what was wrong was they should not have done the surgery to begin with on a 160 pound Newfoundland as they were not set up for a dog that big. Sonny said he would only charge me for the supplies and not to come pick up our dog until the next day as it was late and getting dark. We were taking our pet home to bury him on our farm. The next day when we arrived, Sonny was still getting my bill together and did not even come out to offer his condolences to us. The very sweet little blonde receptionist was shocked when she saw he was charging me $ 800.00 for SUPPLIES ONLY and double checked the charges with him. She was clearly very uncomfortable and upset with what had happened. Our dog was not even kept refrigerated, he had started decomposing and the smell was so horrible my son and his friend who had come to help started throwing up in the parking lot. UNCONSCIONABLE ETHICS AND BEHAVIOR. Will be reporting this to the Oregon State Veterinarian Board.

We’ve had several cats and dogs over the years and although I live about 30 miles from the clinic, I take my pets to Dr. Randhawa for all things more than shots. He spends time figuring out and diagnosing the issue with blood tests, and exams, rather than making you run a bunch of extensive tests and X-​rays. I couldn’t say enough good about him. I suppose his ‘bed-​side” manner could be a little better… but he’s got a scientific mind, explains things and problem solves. That’s more important to me. The costs are reasonable here and the front staff has always been helpful, professional and caring and have gone out of their way to help us with a bunny that we had.

Companion Clinic is NOT open on Sunday! I have had extremely positive experiences here overall, but am annoyed that Unilocal has different hours posted that on their door and have an ill cat with me. It’s important to update all sources of basic info in this tech age.

I wasn’t sure what to expect after reading some of the harsh reviews, but it is really close to home and I needed to have our newly acquired kitty checked out so I went for it. Minimal wait and friendly service at a great price — I was happy I dropped in and will continue to do so! I hope that the St. Johns locals will support the clinic — it is nice to have this in our backyard. They may not have a great online presence or are up to date on electronic records, but I don’t find that as important as some other folks do.

This clinic refuses to write a prescription. They insist on filling all prescriptions themselves. The stated reason for this is so that they can be sure of the medication quality. This is a ridiculous excuse as there are many reputable providers of pet medications including pharmacies. While this is legal in Oregon this is illegal in many states and should be illegal here IMO.
I had to pay more money for my cats essential medicine. And I had to fille and pick up his medication during business hours which is difficult with my work schedule.
I do not recommend this clinic to anyone for this reason as I believe it shows that profit is more important to them then the welfare of the animal.

Good doctor but the staff lives in 1982. Absolutely unable or unwilling to email my records. I was in an emergency situation and they could only mail or fax. Refused to even try to help outside of their standard policies. Obviously, no one in the office has an email or smart phone either. I’ve been in some sort of customer service all my life. There are those who really know what service is and those who only know how to do what they have to. They lost me for life.

Dog and cat owner all my life. Been to many good and bad Vets. Dr. Sonny Rondhawa is the best I have encountered. I was a paramedic for many years, and when our miniature poodle was attacked by two pitbulls recently, we ran our injured little fella to the Companion Pet Clinic, thank God they were open. Dr. Sonny took him immediately into surgery, saving his life and limb. Another clinic would not have been able to handle it. Dr. Rondhawa is a past professor of veterinary medicine, a surgeon as well as a general practitioner. I rate him far above that other famous emergency clinic that does all the advertising and fund raising, having brought dogs in life threatening emergencies to both. And he is also always willing to prescribe less expensive alternatives.

I was nervous to bring our family Rabbit Joey in due to an injury. They don’t seem to have the greatest reviews. I called about 12 and they said they were walk in only and the day was pretty quiet. I brought our Rabbit in about 12:30 and got right in. The receptionist was very nice. Dr Sonny was great and took the time with Joey (maybe because it was a slow day) I thought our Rabbit would need to be put down but he reassured me that he was a fighter and not to give up yet. He recommended a cortisone shot and watch him for 48 hours. Hopefully 1 – 2 more shots later our furry friend will be back to normal. Kudos to Dr Sonny.

I simply cannot say enough about how thrilled I am to have found Dr.Sonny. I wish I had listened to my coworkers years ago & started taking my animals to him immediately upon moving to Oregon. However, I didn’t listen & learned the hard way that there are people in the world who will take advantage of the emotional bond you have with your animal. Dr. Sonny is NOT one of those people. I have never met a vet who has happily drawn me diagrams of my dogs heart on a napkin to better explain a medical condition in lay-​mans terms, I have never met another vet who took me back into his full laboratory to show me exactly where & how certain procedures will be performed, I have simply never met another vet who has so wholeheartedly taken an invested interest in my fur-​child & my concerns as an owner & worked diligently to address every concern & question I have. Dr. Sonny & his staff are the most compassionate, understanding, empathetic, animal loving people I have met. If you value integrity, honesty, intelligence & hard work ethic in the people you trust to take care of your fur-​children look absolutely no further than Dr. Sonny. He is THE best. I will continue to trust my animals in his care until he closes. Words
cannot describe how appreciative I am to have found a veterinarian of his caliber! James Herriot would be proud.

I hate to say it but this clinic has gone way down hill in the past year. I’ve taken my pets here for several years and typically had good conservative service. It seems the main guy has been out on leave for over six months and now they have random vets that come in to fill the role.
As my dog gets older, I really need one solid vet to help through the aging process. Unfortunately, I did eventually move on to another clinic who so far as been wonderful to work with.

We USED to be a long time patient of Dr. Sonny’s but no more, and I am following the line of customers out the door.
We have a Caviler King Charles Spaniel, a breed that genetically has heart murmru issues. Our dog was diagnosed after an emergency visit with Dove Lewis this last summer. Dr. Sonny brushed off the diagnosis after we went in for a check up so I didnt think it was totally that bad. I had been noticing some thing that other Caviler breeders told me to watch for but he kept insisting there is nothing wrong.
Our dog lost a nail on his paws which caused yet another trip to Dove Lewis because of the bleeding. The doctor there was shocked because the murmur has increased fast and can now be heard in both chambers. She said that we need to get him into a cardiologist as soon as possible. She also mentioned that there is no way that this should not of been caught earlier.
I admit, I should of been listening to the breeders instead of my vet, but I now do not trust Dr. Sonny in the slightest and am going to be taking my dog to another provider.
