Shift Vacation Rentals

We stayed in low gear, the downstairs rental. It was better than I can even describe. So chic and modern and amazing. The owners are so helpful and kind and approachable. The location on Alberta St. Was just perfect. I would recommend this place to anyone. I can’t say enough good things about our experience. It really made our vacation to PDX that much better and just so special.

This review is looong overdue. This past summer in late July, my large family (with 8 children) stayed at this vacation rental and we absolutely 100% loved it. The home is amazing, roomy, and it was perfect for us and our children. None of us wanted to leave, the children were hoping we could stay there forever! After a day outside and sightseeing, the children would always ask to return back to the house because they would rather play there instead of going to a park, museum or mall. They absolutely loved the play structure, the seesaw, the bean bag throwing game (sorry I don’t know what it’s actually called) and the swing set on the front/​side yard as well. And inside the home, the children loved the chalkboard and the space to play inside. It was a much better idea that we stayed there instead of a hotel. It was also in a great part of town, the Alberta District, and we loved the restaurants across the street (Tin Shed), many of the other ones that were walking distance (Salt & Straw-​we went there 3x, Petite Provence, Waffle Window, Little Big Burger) were amazing too! The community was so kind, warm and family friendly. Perfect for our family reunion/​first big family vacation. =)
To the owners, Michelle and Klass, thank you for building such a lovely home and vacation rental for my family and others to experience. It was exactly as described, actually even better in person than the pictures posted online and you delivered well above our expectations! We enjoyed reading your book about the story of how it was built. We can tell that is was built with hard work, determination, and especially love!

My family and I enjoyed our stay in Portland. Shift apt rental served our purposes well.
The facilities were clean and comfortable and we got the chance to stay in a Portland neighborhood instead of taking several hotel rooms downtown.
I recommend Shift apts to all who look to create a family style vacation.

We just spent 1 week in the low gear at Shift vacation rental. We had 3 generations staying together and this rental met everyone’s needs. The owners, Michelle and Klaus put such personal touches in the rental it felt like home. In addition, they were available to meet any needs we had. It is very important to reach the owners and have a timely response. Michelle and Klaus did not disappoint.
We have family that live in the neighborhood, but had we not, the book of neighborhood information provided would have been our go to source of things to do and see on Alberta St.
The beds were all very comfortable and rooms were not cramped. The kitchen had everything needed and then some. Modern full sized appliances with ice/​water on door of fridge and not only a coffee pot but an espresso machine. How appropriate in Portland. The patio was a favorite place with lounge chairs and plenty of seating. We were fortunate to have great weather and spent a lot of time outside.
We also had the opportunity to see the High Gear rental and in the event we had more people traveling with us it would be a definite YES. It is also beautiful and functional.
Both rentals have the bicycle theme running through the décor which reflects the owners passion. We will definitely stay here again.

5 stars all the way. I’ve stayed in VRBO’s, AirBnB’s in Paris, Austin, and now Portland — and Michelle’s residence is above and beyond. This place is spacious, located in a happening area, clean, in great condition and well stocked. I stayed here in late March 2013 for 3 nights, with a party of 8 in the High Gear (upper unit with 4 bedrooms) and we were all comfortable and very happy.
Location: NE Alberta St. — best location with Pine State Biscuits, Waffle Window, Barista, Salt’n’Straw Ice Cream, Radar, Helser’s, Petite Provence. Tons of great eats, drink and cute shops to check out. There is a Whole Foods and a Safeway within 5 – 10 minutes drive. This is a local, artsy area with tons to check out.
Condition: Very well kept — she clearly invests in all the furnishings, fixtures, etc. Nicest residence at a very reasonable rental rate. The kitchen has basically everything you’d need and it is in such great condition.
Space: We had 8 adults using 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms — enough space for everyone to do their own thing. If you had a couple kids with you, they would fit comfortably as well as there is a futon in the open area on the 2^nd floor.
I cannot wait to come back to Portland again and without hesitation, I will be staying here. And so will everyone else in my party whenever we visit again. Thank you, Michelle!

We recently stayed at this house on our Portland trip with a large group (9 people) and it was absolutely amazing! The house is newly renovated and beautiful. The location was perfect, right in the middle of some great shops and restaurants. Our host was very nice and very accomadating. She left us a giant binder full of tips and suggestions to make our trip as fun as possible as well as coupons to local establishments. To top it all off, the home itself is very reasonably priced. The only downside was that we had to go home and didn’t get to stay any longer! Would recommend to anyone and I hope we get the chance to stay there again!
