Caravan- The Tiny House Hotel

My boyfriend and I have been tiny house enthusiasts for a while now, so when I found Caravan online, I was so excited! Luckily they had an available night during our trip to Portland! We stayed in Rosebud, and it was so great. Beautiful, comfortable, and the perfect size for the two of us! We had an awesome time, I highly recommend staying there!

I loved my stay in Rosebud! What a fun, unique, comfortable and convenient accommodation. I would stay again in a heartbeat, but I’d stay longer next time! I highly recommend the Caravan Tiny House Hotel to anyone with even the slightest interest in Tiny House Living, but also to anyone who just wants a great place to overnight in Portland.

We stayed in the Kangablue for a night during a week long trip to Portland and Oregon. My only regret was we didn’t stay longer. This was a very unique and fun experience. The unit was more than enough space, fun to «live in“‘ and in a great neighborhood to explore. The staff was friendly and reached out to us in advance of our visit to make sure we would be welcomed. Your can make meals in your tiny house if you want — they have a tiny kitchen — but there are many fun places to eat within walking distance. We didn’t get to take advantage of the tiny courtyard and community setting because it rained during our visit, but that looked like fun. We’d definitely stay again during a future visit.

Kangablue was so adorable and cozy. We just stayed one night, since we live in town we were more interested in the tiny house experience rather than seeing Portland. It doesn’t hurt that it’s close to a whole bunch of fun restaurants and bars!

Only stayed for a night, but it was such an awesome and unique experience!!! They provide coffee, tea, soap, shampoo, linens, towels, all we pretty much needed! They also had awesome books for things to do/​places to eat in and around Portland, about their tiny houses, and others. I wish I could have stayed longer, because it was such a cool place! Planning on staying again for sure!!!

We loved it. We just didn’t want to leave! We stayed in the Caboose Tiny House and it was perfectly cozy and fun. Our 6 year old really enjoyed the stay and we especially loved the all you can eat s’mores with the vegan marshmallows. Maury was a fantastic host!
Highly recommended for those looking for an alternate place to stay and for those curious about Tiny House living.

Very cute tiny house experience! As a local, I have wanted to try this place out, and now I can say I see value in the Tiny House Movement. It was extremely comfortable, however due to very inclement weather, we were unable to have the campfire, smores experience. They certainly inform you about the noise in their website and welcome info, and do pay attention to that. There seems to be a house party that goes on very, very late in back of the hotel complex. Other than that, we were quite pleased with the cute Tandem tiny house and would recommend to others as a place to try when visiting Portland.

This place was amazing, it was so unique. We stayed in the Rosebud and could not believe how cute it was. I loved all the local Portland touches. The bed and pillows were comfortable and the place was very clean. I loved that we were able to bring our dog. Caravan is located within walking distance of (vegan!) bars and restaurants. We will definitely be back and can’t wait to stay in the other tiny houses on the property.

One of the best places I have ever stayed at in the world. Everything was amazing the location, décor and the very helpful people running it. We stayed at the Rosebud and just fell in love with it. Super clean and felt like home need to stay in the other caravans. Its a must

I stayed in the Skyline last weekend. The people were extremely friendly and the atmosphere was great. The experience of living small is invaluable and I advise everyone give it a shot. It is amazing how easily we can live yet still have all the comforts of home. I look forward to returning.

Horrible nights stay. They must have a marketing group writting reviews for them.
So here is the skinny. The «tiny house movement» needs much improvement. Its not as fun as it looks. Its like staying in a doll house. I see people gandering at the gate but if they only knew the truth. The price point is that of a 4 star hotel and they charge you in advanced. Very odd for a hotel.
What are the chances that almost every review left would be an elite user.
Its loud, ant infested and parking is no where to be found. The little houses are cute but not insulated well. Directly in the middle of all of them they chose to place a fire pit. Huh? That makes no since. Now you have a bunch of drunk people trying to cook smores as you look out the window with your fingers crossed that they wont burn thr place down.
Hot water is enough for one shower at a time. You must wait about an hour for more.
The lady that owns the place nearly crashed into my van with her little white car upon me leaving.
I did the hotel impossible test where you wipe around the rim of the toilet. It was discusting and I have attached a picture. Also if you stay in the caboose check out the dust build up where the sliding door goes. Its amazing. The frying pan had ants in it and is stored next to the recycle barrel.
They also are misleading on tgeir ad. They talk about heavenly beds. It wasn’t heavenly it was hell. I slept on the bottom bunk and let me tell you I fell like going back to my surgeon about my spinal fusion and charging it to them.
Dont worry about forgetting to wake up by 11 am. There is enough laughing outside and thin walls you are up for sure.
Beware of staying here.

How can you not stay at a tiny house hotel? We stayed in Skyline for two nights which was the perfect length of stay. Might choose a different, less funky one next time but my husband absolutely loved the rustic reclaimed style of Skyline. Very comfy bed, and we weren’t bothered by noise at all. Incredible food, coffee, shopping is steps away all up and down Alberta.

Loved this place. Truly unique. Stayed in the caboose. Super cute and well decorated.
Situated in a great part of town.

Simply loved it! My son and I did a «road trip/​island hopping» back to school adventure (Honolulu/Kahului/Seattle).We drove down to Portland checked in, we were shown our lodging and any misconceptions that I and my son had just melted away! We stayed in the Caboose for two nights and it was simply wonderful, quiet (we’re use to noise), air condition, internet access, hot water, good size bathroom, cute functional kitchen, and you find parking on the street rather easily (this shocked me). Good location. :)

I enjoyed my stay overall at Caravan, it was very novel and kitsch and adorable. We were greeted enthusiastically by a woman and given a helpful tour of the Caboose. Caravan even let us check in a few hours early! My only gripe is that they ignored a few questions that I sent to them via text message (their preferred method of communicating). It was highly unprofessional, and left me in a bit of a sticky situation, too.
It’s in a wonderful area of Portland. The Alberta Arts District is one of my favorite neighborhoods.
I wouldn’t go back but I’m glad I did it once. Really cute!

OH MY GOSH! Highlight of my trip so far.
I’m currently on a road trip for 3 ½ weeks and have already stayed in 5+ hotels. This has been by far the best and most unique experience. I have been wanting to build and live in my own tiny home for awhile now so I knew that booking a stay at the hotel would be a must.
Deb was very caring and attended to any of our needs. We stayed in the Skyline (4 of us may I mention) and we did not feel cramped at all. I took about a 15 minute shower and was surprised that I had hot water the whole way through!
You’re so close to so many amazing eateries as well. Salt and Straw, Grilled Cheese Truck, Sip Juice Truck, etc. and Alberta was definitely more enticing than downtown Portland itself I think.
This experience has solidified my decision about living tiny. I will make it happen. Thanks for this brilliant idea! I will come back and visit :)

This is a very cool concept and futuristic in many ways in the sense that smaller living spaces will become a necessity very soon. If you’re interested to take a peek into the future, Caravan won’t disappoint and will leave you with a feeling of excitement. You will also likely realize that we don’t need huge living spaces to have our basic habitation needs met.
I stayed in the Tandem tiny house for three nights. I was impressed with the design aspects, quality of construction and high level of workmanship that went into building this tiny house. It was very obvious that the Tandem was built by talented architects who thought about every conceivable detail to make this concept work. In addition to the sound design and construction aspects, this tiny house was accented with all sorts of interesting decorations and accessories which gave the place a warm and eclectic feel. Everywhere I looked around the tiny house and its proximity, I was surrounded by artistic flairs and creations which provided for a fun and visually pleasing atmosphere. The Alberta street neighborhood in which Caravan is located is another huge plus, as excellent restaurants, coffee shops and bars are all within walking distance.
Staying at The Tiny House Hotel was a blast. I highly recommend.

Never seriously considered building a tiny home, now I’m almost certain it’s the thing for me. This place is a MUST VISIT if you have ever entertained the idea of living minimally or lament the hedonistic treadmill. We loved our stay!!!

My GF and I want to retire on property in the Pacific Northwest and plan on living in a tiny house. We saw this place and said, «Hey a test run!» We were not disappointed.
We stayed in the caboose for about a week with her two boys and it never felt cramped or stuffy. Alberta street is a gem and I prefer it to downtown Portland. This is coming from someone who grew up in Los Angeles.
This place is comfy, charming, and all around fantastic. Please don’t hesitate to stay here!
My only caveat is that it can get noisy as there are multiple bars very close to the site.

Came up to Portland for a few things, one to visit one of the few insurance agents who actually insures tiny houses (for my own build upcoming!) To my surprise, I found this dream of a hotel on my trip. It’s in a busy, hipster area, a great vegan bar right around the corner, and a grilled cheese bus (?!) Next door. They even have room service from the pub across the street! Nothing is lacking from what you’d expect in a standard tiny house– the extras (like the dish soap, shampoo/​body wash) are all natural, organic– brands I know and love. The area is said to be ‘noisy’ but that wasn’t our experience– it wasn’t country quiet, but it WAS quiet for having a bar behind it!

We took a road trip from socal to destination Portland for the new years. Being a tiny home fan for almost a decade, I looked forward to the trip. We reserved the Caboose for 2 nights with 4 people. The hotel is located right behind a grill cheese vendor off of a popular street with a few local bars. The hotel is guarded by a locked main gate with a keypad entry.
Carrie, the hotel hostess, showed us around and went through the details of our tiny place. Carrie is guinenly nice and we appreciated it very much. There is room service provided by a restaurant next door. The of the tiny homes are tied into the city electricity, water and sewer so you will have hot water for a nice shower.
Most of the time, I like to be detailed about my reviews but I truly believe that you must experience it for yourself. I know that you’ll love it as much as I did. This is a must-​do experience for anyone in or visiting the Portland area.

Love this place.
We were greeted promptly and showed around the property. The houses were in excellent condition and very clean. I just loved the little community feel they’ve made this into. Everyone here was super friendly and warm.
The concept is awesome and you have everything you need. The only thing is they don’t have air conditioning or swamp coolers. Which at night, it’s probably cool enough.
If you want a little home away from home that’s not downtown, come here. It’s in a nice little neighborhood with plenty of bars and restaurants in the area.

Hands down, this is our new home away from home whenever we visit Portland!
Usually, we stayed at a hotel in the SW. This trip, they weren’t offering a deal and we decided to try someplace else. My wife was looking for something fun and unusual and boy, did she hit a homerun!
The property is a neighborhood within a neighborhood! Six small houses mounted on trailers. Each hooked up to city water and sewer service. Each has its own unique personality.
We stayed in the Caboose for three nights. While we primarily used the «hotel» as our base of operations while exploring the Alberta Arts area and then having meals with friends, we felt that we fully got our money’s worth and then some.
We had the luxury of storing some of our belongings on the two bunk beds that we didn’t need. Sleeping in the loft was a dream with the exception of having to go up and down the ladder for nature calls. If we had been with others guests in our caboose, it may have gotten a little tight but there were plenty of nooks and crannies to store our necessaries.
Right next door are a couple of food carts including one for grilled cheese sandwiches. Up the street are great breakfasts at Petit Provence; Pine State Biscuits; Waffle Window and Tin Shed. There are probably others just as good but we simply didn’t have enough time to try all of them. Plus Portland is one of the ultimate eating towns!

My husband and I stayed here in the Salsa Box at the end of July. Having never stayed in a tiny house, we really didn’t know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised! The Salsa Box is the smallest tiny house at 96 sq ft, but we didn’t feel claustrophobic and we had plenty of room. There is a queen sized bed with plenty of storage underneath for your bags and suitcases. All the comforts of home were provided (coffee press, hot plate, microwave, mini fridge, dishes/​utensils, towels and a couple of fans). There is a regular sized toilet and a shower that is made from an industrial sink. If you want to hang out and relax they have a nice sitting area/​courtyard with a fire pit. And, I believe they also rent bikes to guests.
The owners, Deb and Kol are awesome. Super laid back and very nice. We stayed there the night of their one year anniversary celebration for the Tiny House Hotel and they really went out of their way to make us feel welcome. I would absolutely stay there again the next time we are in Portland and I’m so happy to give my money to a small business rather than a big chain hotel. And, if you’re in the area, stop by the Tin Shed for breakfast (I recommend the Good Dog). It was a wonderful stay. You won’t be disappointed. The Tiny House Hotel rocks!
