This Portland luxury hotel is situated in two of the city’s most historic buildings and houses Jake’s Grill and Jackknife, a modern lobby lounge.

Sentinel features 23,000 square feet of meeting space that serves the Portland community, as well as visiting conferences and events. Here, visionaries are celebrated through art that in the corridors and guestrooms. Rich in architecture and history, Sentinel is Portland’s most storied downtown hotel.

History

Established in 1909.

Sentinel is made up of two historic buildings. The East Wing, originally called the Seward Hotel, opened in 1909 and was designed by William Christmas Knighton, the first State Architect of Oregon. The West Wing opened in 1923 to house Portland’s Elks Loge and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

In March 2014 the hotel completed a top to bottom renovation designed to return the buildings to their original grandeur and celebrate the sensibilities of modern Portland with the addition of an art collection inspired by visionaries and Jackknife, an only-in-Portland twist on the classic hotel lobby lounge.
