I specialize in custom jobs that fit each client’s unique design. I do both general remodeling (primarily interior residential and small commercial) and handyman tasks. Here’s a partial list:

Remodel: kitchen, bath, basement, etc.

Sheetrock: install, repair, soundproofing, mud, texture, paint, wallpaper

Woodworking: prefabricated or custom furniture, doors, decks, etc.

Flooring: tile, linoleum, hardwood, laminate, vinyl

When I can, I use eco-​friendly (and human/​pet-​friendly) products, and reuse and recycle as much as I can.

Established in 2009.

Remodeling as Art

I have several years of experience with many types of projects. No job is too unique for me to at least see if I can come up with a few ideas. I really enjoy custom work.

When I was little, I would help my father remodel and flip houses. When I was older, I apprenticed with a variety of mentors before setting off on my own. Please see www​.rock​star​remodel​.com for examples of some of the projects I’ve done.

The company is named Rockstar Remodel because I have a reputation for singing while I work. Also, I received my audio engineering degree from The Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences so I have the knowledge to best design your home recording studio.

Business Owner

Brendan Hutchins grew up in the remodeling business. From a young age, he helped his father remodel the houses they built, remodeled and flipped. When he was older, he apprenticed other additional tradesmen, finessing various skills: painting, tiling, flooring, wordwork and more. He created Rockstar Remodel October 2009 and is licensed, bonded and insured.

Brendan has been known to begin singing during his remodeling projects. His passion for music took him to Phoenix, Arizona where he earned an audio engineering degree from The Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences (CRAS) in September 2005. In addition to learning to record and mix audio, he also learned how to soundproof a recording studio.

Brendan prides himself in taking the same artistry he uses in music to custom remodeling projects. Every home is designed differently and every client has unique needs and he enjoys coming up with creative solutions.

I hired Brendan to replace the hideous laminate floor in my bathroom with ceramic tile. The results were awesome! Everything was completed on schedule and the final cost was well below his estimate. I would not hesitate to hire him again for any future renovation projects!

Brendan did a few small/​medium projects for us last year. He replaced a door, did a few electrical projects and completely resurfaced and repainted a bedroom. He is organized, punctual, communicative and incredibly hard working. He tends to be booked fairly far in advance, but he will definitely start your job when he says he will, to the day. He was a pleasure to work with and I recommend him highly.

Brendan just completed a kitchen remodel for us. Removed the linoleum floor and replaced it with natural stone (which turned out to be a nightmare to work with but looks fantastic finished). Refaced all the cabinets, Knocked out a section of wall and cabinets between the kitchen and living room and replaced it with a pony wall and a new overhead beam. Removed the original countertop and prepped it for the new quartz countertop. Removed the dishwasher and replaced it with custom cabinets. Moved electrical switches around to accommodate the wall removal and installed an overhead exhaust fan.
We are totally pleased with Brendan’s work. Conscientious, easy to deal with, made a lasting friend of our dog and did his best to keep the kitchen operational for us during the remodel. His workmanship is excellent. He shows up on time and works hard. The job was finished on schedule, due to his working 2 Sundays to stay on time and came in well below the estimated budget. Additionally we had some problems with the countertop provider and Brendan was available for consultation and advice even after he had moved on to his next job.
His schedule is pretty full but definitely worth the wait. We would not hesitate to use him again. Rockstar indeed!

Brendan just finished a project for us, and we couldn’t be more satisfied.
We just moved into a new home, and wanted to add a closet before the movers came to avoid the hassle of cleaning up construction dust off the furniture. We also wanted to complete a couple of other small projects. We called a few contractors for estimates — Rockstar came promptly, and provided an extremely detailed estimate. Other contractors either didn’t show up to provide an estimate, or seemed to just pull a number out of a hat.
When it came time to do the work, Brendan was able to complete the messy part of the project before the movers came by working evenings and weekends, and came later to finish up the remaining work.
He was extremely transparent about what the work would entail, what the costs might be, and how he charges (time and materials, rather than by the project). He was prompt, listened to our requests, and was very responsive.
We will definitely be using him again. Highly recommended.

Brendan is the Best!!! I hired him to do several projects in my condo last year.
Prior to hiring him, I did get other estimates. He got me an estimate within 24 hours (instead of 2 – 3 weeks), was significantly less than the others (who overpriced and tried to take advantage of the fact that I’m clueless about renovations), and stayed on time and budget with his estimate.
I first had him start with custom cabinetry adjustments in my kitchen to accommodate new appliances and putting new recessed lights and decorative lights in my kitchen, dining area, and bathroom. I again had him come back to do a complete master bathroom remodel, paint and place new fixtures in a guest bathroom, and remove cracked tiles on my balcony. I believe I must have sent him emails almost daily for the month prior to each job to run purchases by him, and he always took the time to respond quickly and provide me with more information and education. He had a positive, can-​do attitude with my requests and never lost patience with me changing my mind. He also came up with his own creative ideas to reuse cabinetry, thus saving me money. I loved the fact that he is a licensed electrician and could do everything except plumbing. Because he works alone, the job probably took longer than hiring a crew of people, but then again, I preferred one person being careful with my home to a large crew of careless workers. He is honest and trustworthy, and I could leave him to work in my home every day without worry. He is also incredibly open to feedback and suggestions. The first job was done completely on time. The second job took longer, but only because the plumbers made huge mistakes which Brendan took extra time (over the New Year holiday) to help fix without cost, and because I ended up adding work to his original estimate.
If you are looking for a hard-​working, nice, respectful, creative, professional, and easy-​to-​work with contractor who is honest, he’s your guy. You may also be lucky enough to hear him serenading you while he works — he is literally a Rockstar Remodeler!

Having had a very positive experience with Brendan and Rockstar Remodel on a previous project, we opted to utilize his services on a much bigger one; remodeling a bathroom. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a mistake. While we have to give credit to Brendan for being professional, punctual, and a good communicator, he is unfortunately also inexperienced. What we are left with is a bathroom that is has a tile job with uneven grout, tiles at different depths, and different grout colors. To his credit, he did repair the floor and some of the wall tiles for free, but many issues were not addressed.
We have had 3 people come out to help us repair the work, all in the $ 2,000 range. All agreed that he should have brought in a tile person to do the work, since he wasn’t able to do it up to the standard we should have been able to expect. If you opt to use Brendan, ensure that he is upfront about his experience level on your specific project. Otherwise, you will be disappointed.

Brendan was truly a «rockstar!» We hired him to completely remodel our kitchen, from flooring to ceiling. What should have been a 1 month project took several more due to problems with some of the suppliers and Brendan accommodated all of the necessary delays with commendable flexibility and poise. His workmanship was superb, attention to detail was outstanding and his keen eye found little things with some of the products that I never would have seen. Brendan even offered attractive, creative and cost-​effective ideas regarding the design and products. Communication with Brendan was easy and outstanding. He was a pleasure to have in our home as he was totally trustworthy and even won over our puppy who didn’t care for strangers.
I will definitely hire Brendan again for future projects and cannot recommend him more highly!

Brendan recently installed a ceiling fan, light fixture and dimmer switch for us. These weren’t simple diy jobs.
The ceiling fan required installation of a junction box in the ceiling and rewiring the switch for it. The light fixture involve tearing out an existing recessed light and sealing the 8″ x 8″ hole before installing a junction box. The dimmer was on a 2 way gang switch.
All of this required more expertise than I have, and Brendan has it. He’s licensed and a journeyman electrician. He’s smart, he’s quick and he’s clean, and his hourly rate is very reasonable. He came in substantially below his preliminary estimate.
His work is first rate, and he’s also very personable. You’ll enjoy having him around. He’s exactly the kind of person you want doing work for you.

Brennan was great. He gave us a bid and for a wall removal and some other odds and ends. When he came to start the project, the odds and ends part had grown a little bit. I hired Rockstar Remodel in 2012. They worked with me for several weeks, completing major projects including
* finishing a garage (weather-​proof and install the ceiling and storage space)
* removing a door and adding a wall
* finishing the ceilings after asbestos were removed
* and many other things
We worked with Brendan. He was thoughtful, thorough, creative, professional and patient.
Many projects required working across trades and Brendan did all the work himself. He listened closely to all the things my wife and I wanted and then created specifications for us to make sure it was clear.
He provided accurate budgets and stuck to them. He improvised exactly where we would have wanted him to and always to good effect.
Brendan was extremely reliable and the work has been without any problem. It’s currently 6 months after the work was done.
I’m happy to answer any questions about this company. I recommend it.

Brendan is on time & polite. His rates went up w/​o notice, however, he did honor his previous rate. I budgeted $ 300 for a project, his estimate came in under that — however, the final bill was about $ 126 more then the estimate. He had to come back twice to fix /​finish the project (unexpected). My only suggestion to Brendan would be to use a level on future projects instead of trying to «eye it out».

This is a one man jack of all trades! He was able to complete my bathroom remodel, gave advice on paint and then painted my bedrooms, and even assisted me with my computer set up. He followed my necessary timeline and was very reasonably priced. Will definitely use for future projects!
