This spider-like public artwork is very wondrous. There is a bench nearby, but it is better to walk under the sculpture and see the waving stripes for yourself. This looks like something from a meticulous designer. The circle in the middle moves the strings up high. Public Art: Pod 2002 is in the middle of the street, right next to Powell’s Books. I went here after reading about it. This was such a charming sculpture. The metal felt refined and it was neat to see some localized flavor. It looked glorious, almost as if it was an invading alien ship. The bench still has the view partially obscured by the sun for some of the year, but walking around it is wonderful. Public Art: Pod 2002 is at your viewing pleasure.

We came upon this last night, as it swished back and forth. A girl looked up and said, «Ew.» It continued swishing, unperturbed. After a moment, girl, now perturbed, screams«EWWW!!» I don’t know art, but I gave it a high five.

I actually like this one. It makes me think of a large game of Jacks.

You’ve seen it. Maybe you were leaving Powell’s. Metal blazing in the sun or reflecting the dim rainy skies, sitting on some strange tripod, looming over hapless Portlandians waiting for the bus. What the hell is that thing? A giant titanium garlic? It may be called«Pod» but employees of a nearby record store christened it «The Nutsack». You don’t want to know what they christened it with. In this town, public art that is also a bus stop had better provide some shelter, at least. One star because if you’re tall enough you can push on it and move it around. Not that you’ll want to now.
