I’ve been here twice. First time was an alright experience. This second time has been a horror trip. I ordered the #4 chicken Katsu and two spam musibi. I gave her a $ 50, and she looked at the bill as if it were foreign. I said I can pay with card and she said no. She started counting out how much she owed me, and after about a minute gave me my change. I count my change while waiting for my food and saw that she was off with her math by like $ 6. The person behind me ordered the same thing as I did and once she finished ordering I told the cashier she gave me incorrect changr. She took her time absorbing what just went down… and as I got the difference back, I noticed the katsu being pulled from the deep frier. it gets cut and prepared… and then it gets handed with two spam musubi’s to the person that ordered after me… at this point I’m laughing because of how ridiculous this experience has been. I get my katsu a few minutes later, and she forgets to give me my spam musubi. When I tell her I ordered 2 spam musubi, she told me I hadn’t… the chef(who appears to be her husband?) Shouts out. «just check the order on the system!»… gravely disappointed, but it’s a mall food court restaurant. I guess I put myself in that situation. Hahaha. The food itself. was alright. If you love rice then you’ll love this place. The Katsu was crispy and hot, they put the teriyaki sauce on the katsu and all over the rice as well. It’s a bit too sweet for me. The musubi was not that great, as it was about 95% rice with a paper thin slice of spam.

I just moved to Portland from HAWAI’I and I know GOOD hawaiian food. I had ordered a Kalua Pork plate, hoping it would taste like home, but looks are very deciving! It was HORRIBLE! Burnt taste, dry, and it tasted so SPOILED it was just plain sour, we also wanted to try their fries so we ordered a small, let me tell you, the middle was still raw it was warm not even crispy at all, it was just bleh! The person helping us was very rude, and seemed really impaitient. Now I know not to come back, to this place and find somewhere better for that price!

Food court. Hawaiian food. 5 stars for service. 4 stars for amount of food. 3 stars for the food itself.

Awesome friendly server. Always smiling. Get your spam fix. Pork adobo needs more garlic and black pepper I’ve been having lunch here practically everyday during my visit

Ordered the kalbi chicken plate… The native Hawaiian with me agreed on the following… Sauce was way too sweet and otherwise less than flavorful, the chicken was cooked decently, and the overload of dill and mayo in the mac salad was absolutely inedible. The gentleman at the counter was kind enough. Also, they don’t have Pog at this location… Too bad. We won’t be returning, unfortunately.

Customer service was good! He was very friendly and engaging. I loved the chicken but the white rice and«Hawaiian macaroni salad» was really plain and non exotic. Tasted like something i would eat at a picnic. Was disappointed with the food. Wanted hawaiian not backyard bbq!

The macaroni salad was dry. The steamed rice had been sitting for far too long, the chicken was just ok and the teriyaki sauce was runny.

Always enjoy this place. My favorite is pulled pork. The meat is so juicy and flavorful! My husband really likes the loco moco. The macaroni salad is not that good in my opinion, though my husband says it’s okay. Service is great! The guy there is always very nice and friendly. Honestly I’d give it 5 stars if the macaroni salad was a little better.

Ocean Aloha is surprisingly good for mall food. It looks like a dumbed down Panda Express at first glacé while in the mall, but that is why I try something before reviewing it. I walked up and got to the ton katsu meal and a large soda. It was about $ 9.50 combined. The attitude was upbeat with a guy who supposedly could be Hawaiian saying«Aloha». They took about six minutes for my meal. It came on a medium paper plate. They were sure to include some rice, sauce and the mac and cheese side. It was a good portion, not big, but I wasn’t left hungry. The katsu was fairly typical, but the presentation was neat. Pioneer Place and it’s food court still have a long way to go. It’s way too reliant on the ability to attract people on rainy days and shoppers. Sometimes, it’s an embodiment of how nothing is going to change while people are still going to Pioneer Place. Ocean Aloha might just be the best eatery in Pioneer Place, but the bar isn’t particularly high.

I love Hawaiian food so when I was in Portland I decided to give this place a go. I ordered the chicken katsu which came with rice and macaroni salad. The price was reasonable and the service was friendly and fast. I was really looking forward to the food as I was so hungry. However it seems I was wrong to be excited about it. The chicken katsu was ok I guess, better than I had at another place but not as good as others. The rice was a different story, I was really dry and the macaroni salad was just meh. Really nothing I would recommend to anyone. As I don’t live in the Portland area it’s very unlikely I will be returning. Maybe they were having an off day because there have been many positive reviews of the place.

For food court food this place is great! My daughter LOVES their chicken katsu, and their spicy teriyaki chicken is pretty darn good too.

I tried this place back when it first opened and wasn’t impressed. Since it’s still open I thought I’d give it another go to see if it has improved. I ordered the loco moco and felt that it was just ok. The hamburger patty tasted good, but the gravy was bland. I did not like their version of mac salad. I felt that the herb used in the mac salad had no place in a Hawaiian style mac salad. I do want to mention that the cook was really nice.

This place was DELICIOUS! Went on a whim and am a customer for life. I ordered a really good chicken dish and it came with a great amount of rice and salad. They also had a really great strawberry juice to go with it. I’ll be back soon.

The service here is beyond compare. They went out of their way to make sure I got food I knew I could eat. Mixing and matching parts of their standard offerings and even suggesting options not(obviously) on the menu. I couldn’t have gotten luckier. Thanks!

Alright, I was out of ideas for lunch and ended up giving this place another try. It actually turned out to be pretty good. I got the equivalent of teriyaki chicken, rice, and Mac salad. It was definitely better than last time. I’m glad I gave it another shot.

I’ve not been to the pioneer mall food court in a while and there were a few things that changed, like a Hawaiian place opening up down town. Wifey saw it and was thinking Loco Moco, but she couldn’t order it because she’s prego with our first tax deduction. So I went ahead and ordered it. There was a line of people waiting to get food. They all ordered the Kalbi chicken. I was thinking about it at first but I went with the Loco Moco instead. The meal was made to order but it took a while. There was only two people working there so the guy who took orders and cooked it was a little flustered and confused. They looked disorganized and got confused which order belonged to who. Some improvement in expediting is needed. The Loco Moco was a little different from what I’m used to at a place compared like«Roxys». The meat was alright, the gravey was ok. The eggs were sunny side up though it didn’t look great at all. I think with some help this place has the potential. Again, an extra person might help. I hate to see a owner struggle to make his customers happy. He apologized a lot to customers who were waiting. I think next time I try this place I’ll go with what’s already avaliable and ready, like the kaulua pork or maybe I’ll try the Kalbi Chicken like others mention here.

I can always tell a good Hawaiian joint by the quality of their mac salad. Theirs is great! If you miss the Hawaiian Islands with their good food and friendliness, this is the place to go.

I love the KALBI Chicken. It’s made to order and can be made either spicy or not. I would not purchase anything else because I can probably make it better at home(I am from Hawaii). However, I have yet to figure out the recipe for the Kalbi Chicken. When it gets busy, uncle gets a bit flustered so it’s best to go when it is slow. Overall, I love the fact there is a Hawaiian food place conveniently located in Pioneer Square Mall.

A refreshing find in a mall full of the usual chain chicken over rice places and other lackluster offerings. I have been here twice on a weekday and found the staff friendly and food came out quickly. If you choose vegetables as the side they do cook(steam) them fresh to order so that can take a extra couple minutes. I have only tried the pulled pork which was good and flavorful and the adobe pork, by far my favorite. It is a slow cooked pork with chunks of potato in it, which I think added a nice touch. The average dish comes with 2 sides but the staff is happy to work with you if you want a half and half combo or one scoop of rice, and one scoop of salad ect. Just ask. I look forward to coming back and trying the other dishes they offer if I can get past eating the adobe pork. If they do as good a job on the pulled and adobe pork I have no doubt that the rest of the dishes will be just as satisfying. The katsu chicken and the dish with the burger, gravy and fried eggs(sorry can’t think of the name) looked like good options for my next visit. Hopefully this place will stick around.
