Myoptic Optometry + Modern Eyewear

This is the first time I have ever had a «fun» experience in an optometry clinic! The receptionists were so sweet, accommodating, and very helpful. Dr. Hibbert always had a smile and listened with so much patience and care while I shared any issues I’ve noticed in my vision. She took those concerns seriously and never made me feel silly about it. Even though I have ²⁰⁄₂₀ vision, she worked extra hard and took more time to do further testing and made sure she did all she could do to help me out. She ended up finding the perfect prescription for me, and Tristan did such a good job helping me find the right frames for my face and personality– he made it fun too! I just picked up my frames last weekend, and every time I put them on for work, my eyes feel so relieved. And my frames are so cool! Summy, the owner, happened to be there to help me make sure my frames fit right. She was so welcoming, kind, personable and showed she really cared about the service she was providing. I will definitely be referring everyone to Myoptic! It is the new face of optometry!

My wife and I came in after going years without having an eye exam, not totally knowing what to expect, but each of us had been wanting to get our eyes checked because we both spend a lot of time in front of screens — I am a graphic designer and she is a blogger. It was important for us to find out how we could better care for our eyes and find out how the folks at Myoptic could help with that.
The space itself was really cool, modern, well-​designed, but not pretentious or feeing like a hospital. The employees chatted with us while we each checked in our info and made us feel comfortable and welcome. The optician Tristan was great! They even offered us a choice of drinks while we waited, which was totally cool.
The exam itself was actually a pretty fun process. I could tell Dr. Hibbert is really passionate about what she does because she knew a lot about any of the questions I was asking and was enthusiastic about sharing cool facts. — The whole time we felt like we were with people who cared.
Picking out frames was fun too. Tristan had good suggestions and encouraged us to go for the ones that we had felt like we’re the most «us». My wife and I ended up getting the same brand without knowing at first! Also, there’s some super rad styles they carry too. I decided on a really lightweight and modern pair (my first glasses ever) that didn’t make me feel weird or change how I saw myself in the mirror.
We just received a hand-​written card from Dr. Hibbert thanking us for our visit too, which was a really thoughtful gesture. I wish more places showed the same kind of consideration:)
It was an awesome experience and I would definitely tell anybody to go for it if they considered coming for an exam or even just stopping by! You’ll love it!

They were phenomenal. Made sure I got the perfect pair of glasses, the exam was thorough and everything was explained to me. All round best opticians I have ever been to. And their frame choices were amazing. I love my glasses.

Just had my appointment with Dr. Hibbert and she was super nice and knowledgeable. Gave me easy and pertinent advice on how to take care of my eyes. The staff was really helpful, especially Tristan, who was so patient as I maneuvered myself awkwardly around the medical equipment. I needed a new prescription and contacts — FAST — for the upcoming ski season. 24hrs after calling Myoptic I had both AND they were able to bill my insurance with zero (0) hassle! Their friendly service, the optometrist’s cheerful explanations and their tidy, attractive office all made me feel comfortable and welcome. I’ll definitely return.

From Lisa at the front desk who always greets me with the biggest smile and remembers my name, and that I meditate, to Dr. Allen Kim who is genuinely friendly and caring, and knows not only all about eyes, but also about the best, delicious food in the area, Myoptic Optometry is amazing. It feels like being welcomed by good friends who also happen to be helping you check your eyesight, choose a pair of glasses, or get fitted for contacts! :)
They also accept my insurance, have great rates on contact lens exams (not covered by my insurance), a wide selection of frames, the latest and most comfortable equipment (no more air blowing into my eyes test!), and an eye pad that will make your eyes feel amazing!!! Great for dry eyes! Also, they donate to local charities. Pretty awesome.

This is where you need to get your glasses. Great selection, good prices, and above all THE ABSOLUTE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE ANYWHERE.
I’ve had a handful of problems with my glasses (self-​inflicted; not a quality issue on their part) and they’ve jumped through hoops to help me out. As long as they’ve in business, I’ll never go anywhere else.

Myopic has invested in the coolest technology I’ve ever experienced at an eye exam. When you combine really nice, well trained people with innovative technology, it’s a pretty winning formula. I have a family medical history that calls for dilation of my eyes on a regular basis. At my latest exam, they were able to image my whole retina without the annoying dilation! Love the whole team at Myoptic!

This place has far surpassed any eye exam I have ever received. Not only were they very nice and open to my relentless questions, but they also worked with me to try to get me in the right contacts (something I have struggled with for years). Additionally, the woman who helped me pick out my glasses must have spent over an hour with me going through each style that I may or may not like (probably like 50 – 60 pairs of glasses… believe me, I am VERY picky). In the end, she helped me pick out a style that was absolutely perfect for me. It was something a little bit out of my comfort zone that I probably wouldn’t have normally chosen but it was absolutely what I needed. I have gotten so many compliments on these glasses since then. Once all was said and done, and she sat me down to work through my insurance stuff, I was also offered an IPA! How delightfully Portland! This place is top notch!
And the icing on the cake? They sent me a handwritten thank you card about a week after I picked up my wonderful, shinny new glasses. This was truly such a wonderful customer service experience, that I am totally SOLD on this place. This place rocks!

I don’t write Unilocal reviews often, but I was so happy with my service at the SE location I felt like it would be well worth it to share. The staff truly went above and beyond on all points. There was a mix up about my appointment date, and they were gracious in getting me in when it was good for me. So happy I will definitely be back next time I need to visit the eye doctor.

This is the best eyecare shop I’ve ever been to. The people are friendly, knowledgeable, the equipment is top of the line, they offer you coffee, even beer. It’s a very laid back experience. I don’t think I’ll have to force myself to get an exam after putting it off forever like I usually do. If you go anywhere else in Portland for your eyeball needs, you’re missing out.

Myoptic Optometry is, simply put, the best optical clinic I have ever known — by a wide degree. Their commitments to social justice and community health are remarkable. Customer service is quick, efficient, and always polite. Dr. Kim is an incredibly sweet guy and also the first to correct my vision to ²⁰⁄₁₅.
For the record, I am 50 years old, wear bifocals, and have a medium to medium-​high prescription. High quality lenses are not cheap these days, no matter where you go, and Myopic worked with me to develop an affordable plan, getting me the best possible vision correction for my budget. No one has ever explained the process and options so well.

I had my first visit to Myoptic last weekend. I was able to get an appointment quickly and booked online with ease. The office was modern but welcoming. The receptionists were helpful and kind. They went over my vision insurance specifics, which I greatly appreciated. I feel like so many medical offices expect you to understand insurance. No one understand insurance unless they have had to deal with it before! Haha! I digress — Dr. Kim was very pleasant, friendly, and professional. He did a thorough but efficient job on my exam and I felt confident in his skills. My husband will be going there as well. Overall, a wonderful experience from start to finish!

I came in for an annual eye exam per recommendation of my mom. Best medical examination experience of my life.
They offer drinks upon entrance; reception is very friendly. Their examination rooms have state of the art, modern technologies, thus making the appointment as noninvasive and comfortable as possible. While I haven’t seen too many eye exam offices, this office was more up to date than any other one I’ve seen. Dr. Kim was great, too. Very polite, friendly, and engaging, he explained every step of the check up and answered questions well. Would definitely come back and would recommend for everyone else.

No need to write a book– they’re good people with the newest high-​tech equipment on the market to find out why your eyes are bugging.
I appreciated how they’ve helped adjust my frames after a week or two. My eyes are now seeing through the Cadillac of lenses thanks to the crew at MyOptic.

People, I have been basically blind as a bat since I was knee-​high to a grasshopper. I was one of those tiny children with adorable tiny glasses. I can’t see a half an inch in front of my face without mah specs. I frequently have nightmares of having to leave the house or complete an activity glasses-​less.
I’ve also spent big bucks over the years trying out different contacts, and they never seem to work out for more than a couple of hours. I gave up. I’m just a glasses person, too chicken for LASIK.
Additionally, I’ve had some uh… ‘accidents’ (read: face hitting pavement) in the past that required extra ocular care that most people don’t need.
For the last few years, I had a regular Eye Guy, and while he was very nice, the practice was just too Old School for me to be confident in the care provided. Everything still on paper. Machines from the 70s. Guess and go procedures.
Enter Myoptic Optometry.
I was introduced to this business by a surprisingly fun (party in an optometry office, what?) Elite Event (
) there a few months ago, and made an appointment on the spot. Sadly, I had to cancel that appointment because I ended up in the hospital but that’s for another review another time. Once I got sprung, I made a new appointment asap.
My experience there start to finish was 5-​stars. 6. 7. Ok, 10.
Knowing I had recent medical trauma, Dr. Allen Kim took that all into consideration and my exam was holistic, not just run-​of-​the-​mill vision check. The eyes can show so much, y’all! We carefully went through all of the medicines I was on (why yes, I am having a blurred vision situation from that one, etc.), and he listened to me with compassion and concern.
Here’s the best part, though: just for kicks, he fitted me with a sample pair of contacts, after I told him I was lifelong (seriously, this started around age 12) Contacts Challenged.
DEAR SWEET BABY JESUS CLAUS, I CAN SEE! It was so great, I even called my mother to re-​thank her for the Christmas gifts (art) she sent that I could actually make out the details of now. Amazing. And I left them in all afternoon and evening with no problem.
In summary, this practice has everything I love about a clinical business: easy, online info, knowledgeable and friendly staff, high-​tech everything (fill out your info on an ipad when you arrive), compassion, and follow up. Highly recommend to anyone in need of a check up or change from your more Old School optometry to bring your orbs into 2015.

I’ll start this off with an admission. I have pretty much perfect vision. So I don’t have a history with prescription glasses, eye doctors and the like. Sure I’ve had maybe four eye doctor visits in my life… very infrequent visits. My ²⁰⁄₂₀ has always been ²⁰⁄₂₀ (actually ²⁰⁄₁₅ in one eye) and I’m damn proud of that. As if I had anything to do with it. Well, I did drink a lot of carrot juice growing up. But I digress.
I decided that it was time for me to utilize my often overlooked vision benefit on my insurance plan and take advantage of my annual checkup. Also I recently found out that I have some folks in my family with macular degeneration, which is something that can affect people later in life and wreck vision. So armed with these two things, I saw Dr. Kim, who is pretty awesome. He recommended that since I stare at computer screens all day (and the blue light is a direct contributor to macular degeneration) I might benefit from some glasses with a blue blocking coating on them. And maybe a slight scrip to sharpen things up.
Sure. Why not? I have some FSA money to burn. Let’s do this.
What impresses me about this place is not just the «bedside manner» of the staff, but the high-​tech equipment, the fantastic selection of niche-​brad frames (Moscot, SALT, Mykita, Kilsgaard, Masunaga and more) as well as some more stylish major brands (Paul Frank, Maui Jim, Toms) and the quality of service. I was able to find quite a few frames I really liked, and the process was easy and straightforward. There was no up-​selling on unnecessary add-​ons. And I got my lenses within a week.
Now I get to enjoy the transition as I get used to staring at a computer screen through slightly adjusted lenses. I’m not used to this. But if it can lessen eyestrain, protect my maculars (is that the right word?) and keep my eyes healthy with all the small electronic text I look at, then rad.
I highly recommend Myoptic. Glad they opened an outpost on my end of town.

Diagnosed with myopia (nearsightedness) in the second grade, I have been in my fair share of Lens Crafters, boutique optometrists, and mom and pop local stores.
This shop pretty much blew me away. Probably the most modern, most friendly optometrist I have been to, ever. Here are the three main reasons why:
1. All new eye glass testing equipment. faster and less scary then the stuff I used at the countless other optometrists. machines that almost replace eye drop dilation and that scary air puff machine. I hated those.
2. The widest selection of glasses that fit my nose bridge – don’t worry they have something for everyone. They also carry some local Portland brands such as 141 and their own private label brand called ²⁰⁄₁₀ that are modern, tasteful, locally designed, and at a $ 99 price point – a bargain.
3. Customer service-​Christina, Harrison, and Dr. Allen Kim were all so friendly and upbeat. Dr. Kim was very patient and detailed in answering all my questions, Christina advised me on the best pair of glasses that fit my face, and Harrison was so upbeat in explaining all my options – while I was in late Saturday morning zombie mode.
I am definitely coming back here when I get new glasses or contacts.
