Great gift chocolate. Love to eat them, too. Milkshakes are delicious. Can’t go wrong!

Went to the Moonstruck Chocolate Café on NW 23^rd to see what kind of goodies they have. I was looking for a slice of cake to take with me. The girl behind the counter explained all their wonderful offerings and pointed out that they have mainly candies and truffles, and have only two kinds of cakes there. Also, since it was late in the afternoon (after six o’clock), they were totally out of one kind of cake and had only one left of the other kind. It was a small personal-​size Cookies and Cream Layer Cake, and I was happy to get the last one of the day. It’s a two layer chocolate cake with cookies and cream flavored frosting. The cake part seemed a bit dry to me.. .I like cake with a moister texture. The frosting had finely ground-​up Oreo cookies in it which was nice. The cake was a good treat and wasn’t too over-​the-​top sweet and chocolatey (although I wouldn’t have minded that either). Moonstruck’s own Facebook page says that the Cookies and Cream Layer Cakes are not made in-​house.. .they are provided by Farina Bakery in SE Portland. Well, whoever gets credit for it, it was a satisfactory dessert for me tonight.

Chocolate galore. They have a case full of truffle and barks of many varieties to choose from. I opted for a cold chocolate milk that was made from dark chocolate. There are no milk alternatives so if you can’t do milk, I’m sorry but you’re missing out.

Everything here is so cute and lovely. You can mix and match to make your own box of chocolate in different amount. I loved their Extra-​Bitter Sweet Truffle, Champagne Truffle, and the Espresso Truffle.
I ordered the Conquistador Milkshake (ice cream based milkshake without whip cream). Unfortunately it was still too sweet for me.

Moonstruck is one of the best chocolate shops in Portland. They have interesting and unique flavors & seasonal chocolates too. These are perfect to give as a gift that is from Portland.
Also, don’t overlook the hot chocolate they have, very tasty and the Mayan dark chocolate is flavorful, not too sweet.
Larger café style shop on trendy NW 23^rd or small boutique in downtown. They are also sold at the airport if you need a last minute splurge before a flight. The nuts and chews box set for $ 20 is one of my favorites.

We stopped in here because my nephew loves the chocolate here. I found this shop to be very cute and had cozy seating. The service was friendly and warm. There was ten of us and most of us bought something.
There was a great selection of confections –some beautiful, some cute and some just plain chocolate heaven!
The packaging was also well done. From the boxes and the bags, it was well done! It was also nice that they offer coffee and milkshake. I wish I would have seen the milkshake special sooner because it was chocolate espresso. Doesn’t that sound so good?!? Next time, I will have to check out the milkshake of the day.

Loved the chocolates I bought! This is the first chocolate ‘café ’ I have been to and I didn’t want to leave at all! I absolutely loved the ambience. The service was good. They recommended good options for the kind of chocolate I wanted. I wanted to buy almost every chocolate in the store, but bought 4. I don’t remember the exact flavors but two of them were almond based which was amazing. The third one was a pecan flavoured chocolate which was excellent too. The fourth one is a milk chocolate bunny which I haven’t had the heart to eat yet. :P
These chocolates definitely make very good gifts.

The Mayan truffle was amazing! Crunchy and decadently rich with the most complex, addictive flavor! I’ll be back to try a milkshake next!

This is the place to go if you want to truly enjoy some rich good tasting chocolate. The hot chocolate is incredibly rich and delicious like no other hot chocolate I have ever tried.
They have every single type of chocolate treat imaginable although a personal favorite of mine were their vanilla macaroons.
The only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars is that their chocolates are quite pricey (especially on my college student budget hehe) although the taste and richness is quite unmatchable. To add to all of this, the environment of the café is quite tranquil and the employees are incredibly friendly and good with recommendations.

Vanilla Caramel Milk Chocolate: Yum! Has a rich and deep caramel note with the fun uplifting vanilla splash flavor. Very well balanced. Lots of caramel in the center — perfect texture.
Dark and Milk Toffee Bites: Oooh! Great! nice a crunchy and fresh. Toasted nuts blended in — perfect roasted flavor that further blooms the sweetness of the toffee.
Orange Milk Chocolate Egg: Mmmmm. Creamy, smooth milk chocolate mousse inside a white chocolate orange flavored blanket. So so delectable!
If we’re ever in this neighborhood again — we’ll be back!

Yeah MOONSTRUCK is worth the price and it’s not just hype — seriously the best Hot Chocolate in the entire world! Super clean, and a nice little seating area inside; no outdoor seating — and that’s okay this time of year. Now I can get my hair done, ink, and drink a Hot Cocoa all on the same corner of 23^rd and Glisan. Fast becoming one of my favorite NW locations!

If you’re in the area, I would definitely recommend this place. If you’re not in the area, I would recommend walking, running, riding your bicycle, getting in your automobile, or boarding a train or a boat or an airplane to get to this place.
It’s a chocolate paradise!
They serve beverages and desserts. They have truffles and bars and macarons and CHOCOLATE everything! Everything is so beautifully crafted, and their displays for the season are whimsical and gorgeous.
I think my favorite thing about this place has to be the adorable shapes of their chocolates during the different types of the year (& everyday, too). During Christmas, they have chocolates in the shape of Santa and reindeer and Christmas lights. During Valentine’s Day, they have lips and hearts. They have wonderful names of their chocolates, too, with matching flavors. They, also, have chocolates with alcohol infused. Yum! And fun!
I think my favorite thing purchased today that completely hit the spot was the chocolate hazelnut macaron. It was so decadent and so flavorful and so SCRUM-​diddly-​UMPTIOUS! I will definitely be going back to get some more! Like ASAP! (In fact, if you’re in the area, buy me a dozen or all of them… please? Lol.)
A shoutout to the assistant manager, Natalie, who was very friendly and very helpful. She greeted us as soon as we walked in and was gracious until the very end of our transaction.

I just wanted to write a good review of this place. The chocolates speak for themselves (delicious), but the service I receive here has always been great. Very friendly staff, great samples and overall a good experience.
They also have a wide selection of various treats. While some are obviously more pricey than others, all are delicious. As much as I want to say it is too pricey, to be fair they are a local company and it probably is not fair to judge them based on their mega-​national corporate competition.
The chocolate and the service are both awesome! I also wanted to add the staffed seemed very knowledgeable.

DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS. I received the worst customer service from Assistant Manager– Natalie. I will not be back or ever buy Moonstruck chocolate. Consider going to Alma chocolates in NE Portland– they’re great and truly care about your business!

Oh man the chocolate is delicious! I can’t give it a full 5 star because it hurts my wallet — OUCH!
Tip: If you want to try the packaged/​wrapped chocolate on the display shelves, ask the staff behind the counter for samples.
I got a bark chocolate bar of Dark Chocolate Strawberry & Basil for $ 9. Really steep for chocolate, but once you take a sample — you can’t say no. The basil flavor was really outstanding and the fruity strawberry balanced so well with the dark chocolate.

The short: delectable chocolates
My friend and I were walking down the street, checking out the area, and as soon as I saw this chocolate shop, my stomach tumbled, danced, and lurched, leading me into the store. I started drooling and ended up getting the almond sea salt dark chocolate bar.
I melted as soon as I had my first bite and knew I had to get some for friends and family back home. So I came back and happily ordered several bags, even buying an extra one for myself too.
The ladies there helping me were quite nice and helpful and were probably used to people’s glossy eyes with mouths agape. *Guilty.*
Gosh, I want to go back for this chocolate ASAP.

The parking in the area isnt good. Had to park a ways away and walk back.
Once inside, the employees are friendly and offer samples of the chocolate truffles.
I ordered a Brownie and a Mocha Latte. Delicious and reasonably priced. I would definitely love to try other items on my next trip back to portland.

Fun experience. The service was great; it was my first time so I had about 20 questions about how they made the macarons, the owners, the neighborhood, etc. The workers were very patient, answered all of my questions, and it was clear they enjoyed sharing their knowledge. The Macarons were delicious.

Delicious everything, from gourmet selections to take home packaged items. Hot chocolate is good. Halloween candies are on sale after Halloween.

A chocolate lovers paradise. At Moonstruck, they take their chocolate VERY seriously. There is so much thought and detail that goes into every chocolate/​truffle. From savory truffles (ginger bacon, WHAT?!) to the classics, this place knows what they are doing. Moonstruck is a perfect place to get gifts for the holidays and I’m still eager to try their shakes, which always look so mouthwatering.

I had bookmarked this place from reading it in a food magazine, so was pleasantly surprised that it was near the errand that I had in the Alphabet District. Given that the Mayan truffle was the highest one mentioned on Unilocal!,I had to try it. Normally I would not have done so given that it is milk chocolate based, and I’m a dark girl. However, it blew my mind. The flavors of cinnamon and sugar are unreal — hot damn! The lady who served me was also very helpful in my decisions for the other two that I tried. However, they paled in comparison to the Mayan. I loved this place so much that I ended up buying a bar of their dark chocolate at Whole Foods later in the week that I visited. Love this place!

I cannot speak of the experience of the café, I just went in to find all varieties of chocolate! Moonstruck is not sold in Texas, so during my recent trip I was able to get as many as I could from this store. And they have all kind of truffles!!! And the price is better than at the airport.
On the other hand, I liked the neighborhood and I will make a point in a future trip to explore the area.

My favorite chocolate ever. The truffles are not cheap at $ 2.50 apiece, but they are worth it. Adorable designs and perfect flavor combinations. I wish they were more accessible outside of Portland, but I like that you can order online as well.

Such a cute store! I wanted to try more than what I got so I’ll be going back soon! I got a small box. My box contained: Milk Chocolate Lab Truffle, Cookies & Cream Cone, Pink Grapefruit Truffle, Ivory Toffee Mouse Truffle. They were almost too cute to eat! My favorite was the Cookies & Cream Cone.

Yes, there are many hip new chocolate shops strewn throughout Portland, but Moonstruck will always be my number one. I think it’s one of those Portland nostalgia things. Moonstruck used to be on my must visit list when I lived in California. I always stopped by one of the shops to purchase a tin of hot chocolate mix to take a bit of Portland back to California with me.
On a recent hot Portland day, I wandered in and decided it made sense to try a milkshake. The mint tingle sprinkled with pieces of honeycomb is a great treat for a warm day. Heck, it’s a great treat for any day.

My friend introduced me to Moonstruck Chocolate Co. – we went to one of the cafés – while we worked off our dinner and were digesting a bit before making a run to the nearest Salt & Straw. I immediately fell in love with this quaint chocolate shop. My friend said that you can find more of the basic chocolate bars in stores like Fred Meyer, but it was neat to see all of the truffles in the display case.
Moonstruck is known for their elegant truffles that sport various fillings and shapes. Some of the most popular are in animal shapes, and during the time of my visit, they had a great seasonal selection for Easter. There were a few other customers in the shop who were ready to order, and the employees were really attentive. I loved the fact that samples of one of the truffles were being given out (though I was too full from dinner to try it), and the girl behind the counter who was helping me was patient with my indecisiveness and made several good recommendations.
You can opt for one of the pre-​set box arrangements or you can create your own box of truffles if you want a customized order, which I decided to do. I ended up getting four different truffles – a mix of seasonals and regular selections. The employee told me that the mouse and lab were some of the more popular animals; it was so hard to pick just a few!
Here’s what I ordered on this trip, as well as chocolates I look forward to trying in the future:
«Peanut Butter Easter Egg Truffle»: Since I love peanut butter – and this was one of the Easter seasonals – I had to get this peanut butter egg truffle. It features creamy milk chocolate peanut butter ganache in the shape of an Easter egg, hand-​dipped in naturally colored yellow ivory chocolate and hand-​painted with a colorful design. Not only did the egg taste great – reminded me of my favorite Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup – but the Easter-​themed décor made it even more appealing.
«Milk Chocolate Ladybug Truffle»: I don’t like ladybugs in real life, but this adorable treat was too cute to pass up. It included creamy milk chocolate ganache – in the shape of a ladybug – that was hand-​dipped and hand-​decorated. The interior was creamy and chocolaty; the perfect indulgence if you love milk chocolate.
«Cookies and Cream Cone»: Since I already had a peanut butter treat, I decided to get something in my other favorite flavor — cookies and cream. This candy featured Moonstruck’s take on the classic ice cream favorite, consisting of chocolate cookie chunks and vanilla French butter cream inside a dark chocolate cone topped with ivory chocolate. The truffle itself really did look like a cookies and cream ice cream cone, and I definitely enjoyed the flavor. It reminded me of OREOs, which are one of my favorite cookies.
«Extra-​Bittersweet Lamb»: This is one unBAAAA-​lievably delicious chocolaty delight. It features extra-​bittersweet dark chocolate ganache in the shape of a lamb, enrobed in dark chocolate and hand-​decorated. I figured I should get one more Easter-​themed truffle. Since I already had a milk chocolate truffle, I decided to get one dark chocolate one as well, so I could have a great sampling without ordering too many candies. Though I love milk chocolate, I like dark chocolate as well, and I did like the more subtle taste of this extra-​bittersweet dark chocolate treat.
«Milk Chocolate Bunny Truffle»: Since I ordered the milk chocolate ladybug, I refrained from getting another milk chocolate truffle, but this bunny was SO cute that I almost got a bigger-​sized box just so I could order this truffle. This truffle featured milk chocolate ganache that was hand-​formed in the shape of a bunny with almonds for ears. The entire creature is enrobed in milk chocolate and hand-​painted with an adorable pink nose. This is a SUPER CUTE treat to include in any Easter gift box! It’s really hard to choose between any of the truffle critters from Moonstruck …
«Peanut Butter Crispy Egg»: Though I didn’t order this larger Easter treat, I definitely had my eye on it! It consisted of luscious peanut butter and milk chocolate mixed with crispy feuilletine wafer cookie bits for the perfect amount of peanut butter and crunch. When I read the description, this decadent delight sounded like a hybrid between Reese’s and Kit Kat, thanks to the crispy wafer cookie bits (or Reese’s Sticks, which I like as well). If I’m ever in this shop around Easter again, I would definitely want to try one of these seasonal specials.
«4-​Piece Country Critter Collection»: The girl behind the counter suggested this pre-​set box if you want a sampling of the different animal truffles. It includes: Milk Chocolate Pony, Toffee Pig, Holstein Cow and Extra-​Bittersweet Lamb, and each is hand-​decorated with care. I didn’t opt for this arrangement because I wanted to get some of the other truffles – not just the animals – but I have to admit, this pre-​set box is SO cute!

I love this place! The people who work here are so friendly and there are so many options. The chocolates are tasty and so was the rocky road hot chocolate we ordered. So much better than that nasty stuff at Starbucks we ordered the night before. I wish there was one near where I live. They have chocolates shaped like bunnies, labs, and mice. They switch up their chocolates all the time with holiday themes. I think these little chocolates will make great gifts!

I’ve been to the factory and I absolutely adored being able to watch them put it all together and see a small selection of their products.
I was hoping to be able to get to one of the cafes eventually, but I never knew that they have one on NW 23^rd until I was with a group of people who had been craving hot chocolate ALL DAY and I passed this.
There were 4 of us absolutely craving it, and they went into it wanting a simple hot chocolate, and I knew it would end up being so much better than that!
After creating a trail of drool all the way past the display of truffles, we saw the cocoa on the menu. If only it were that easy to order. There was milk hot chocolate, dark hot chocolate, Mexican milk hot chocolate, and Mexican milk dark chocolate, and then there was a creamy caramel hot chocolate.
Their minds were blown, making this the hardest decision of our lives.
It all came down to a Mexican milk chocolate and a battle over the Caramel chocolate, but we decided to both get it because duh.
Plusssss… Since we were taking so long decide, my mind wandered over to the chocolates, and a few days after christmas called for 50% off the christmas truffles. And you bet I got one of each.
I have yet to try them because they are little art masterpieces. But let me tell you, they’re cute.
The hot chocolates were killer though. I loved being able to sit down and enjoy it inside on a cold day, that I honestly would want to come here all the time over some other coffee shops. They have coffee options, which can include some of their ganaces in them, so whyyyyy notttttt?
